I really am not getting that DJ Kent thing. Listened to it intently twice.
Would like to hear why anyone else likes it - I am very aware that I could
be missing the point - it is Theo Parrish after all! (But then again, it
could just be not his best moment.)

ahhh, I'm all over it Ken!

It's just perfect dj fodder, and you can just imagine theo banging it!
It's like one of the old stripped down drum only chi-house tracks that he
plays, but with a modern slant. you can play it with techno, disco, deep
house, whatever, it's a good little tool for bridiging the tempos/genres
etc and I think it kicks!

Alright, so it's proper tracky stuff, but I dunno, I kind of find it hard
to get records like this - there's loads of really banging stuff like this,
but nothing at this tempo It's really dark and really fierce and I
think it sounds great...

Really looking forward to getting some of his new stuff, I've heard good
reports.

Agreed. That's a nice little package: Parrish; Ollivierra (Ibex) and the
sweet original by Genesis.

Wow! this is my top 5, alex, what a coincidence! :)
Ok, well 4 out of 5 tracks, because i haven't heard the ross154 track
yet, but that is surely a winner like his other stuff...

i'll add theo parrish - twin cities (harmonie park) to my favs in the
last weeks, which i couldn't buy yet, but gilles peterson played
roundabout 2 weeks ago as starting track in his bbc worldwide show, and
it's a bomb.

got a copy of new Rotating Assembly CD yesterday, the track orchestral
hall is unbelievable, but i need to listen to the rest of the album
probably a few times more, his soulfulness and jazzy jam-session
character suprised me and i don't get it initially...

Some more goo tunes to complete last weeks top10 (no particular order,
and (sorry) not 100% 313ish):

#gene harris - los alamitos (bugz rework) (promo) (dope remix for gene
harris classic, switches from downtempo into a broeknbeats tune)

#mr. de' - whoonleeone (Electrofunk Records 2012-1) (i guess this has
been already recommended on this list, very deep)

#maertini broes. - love the machine (robag wruhmes
robakkbroeswodkainferno remix) (pokerflat 041) (this is totally weird
and amazing! absolutely recommended)

#robag wruhme - jena makks (milnor modern 002) (another winner from the
guy behind german label musik krause, excellent minimal stuff, check
audio samples here: http://www.milnormodern.com/html/rel002.html)

#soul phiction - soulphiction ep1 (fat 017) (very nice and deep release
from one guy behind the perlon label, sounds like a tribute to or a
rip-off from (as some might see it) moodymann/kdj... judge for yourself:
http://www.freude-am-tanzen.de/inc/rel_fat17.html)

OK, Alex - as I suggested, I like to hear the opinions of others who know
better! Any money I will bet you, I hear it in Plastic People and be
drooling as well as kicking myself for not picking up one of the copies -
and there are stacks of them in London at the moment, I don't think I'm the
only one not understanding it. Back to the record shop. Hope not too late.

I hope this is on topic enough for you all! If not:

NP: DJT1000 - PROGRESS LP - MARINA - Seriously underrated old-fashioned,
Detroit-style, proper techno, with loops, 4/4 beats, strings, perplexingly
out of place kicks (but they work) and tonnes of atmosphere ... and you
didn't buy it did you?!

Peace,

k

yeah the guys from rushhour played the cd a bunch while they were visiting
last fall, and it really wasnt much my thing...i liked it, but wasnt too
excited by it, a couple real nice tracks, real organic jazzy
stuff...basically i got the same impression of it as you describe above.
maybe i'd get more into it in a different environment, with more listenings
etc. i'm sure all the theo fanatics will dig it tho

only you know what you like mate - please check it at a later date - I'll
even tape it for you if you want, but please don't take my word on anything
- especially music!
I was just saying that's all - loads of my mates hate it as well, but I
just took a little liking to it for some reason - mainly cos I can use it
to get between disco and house and techno when dj'ing.
*and I think it sounds hot loud too*

Yeah Alex, you're right about making up my own mind. Naturally I do. But I
like what you're saying about using it as a utility. I guess it's ideal for
that so I am more inclined to get it now than before I heard your view.
Nicely informed views is a big chunk about what this is all about innit?! So

Yeah. I'm well into it too. The only thing I'm not 100% sold on is the
bassline that comes in - how it first enters, but as a tool you don't even
need to use it until that point in the track, and you're absolutely right
that it works with loads.

If I'd only heard it on headphones at a shop I'd agree but having heard
it at Avalon in NYC a few weeks back when Curtis played it I can tell you
that on a big system - at the right moment - it drives the crowd frickin'
mental;) As of course does Midnight

I'm not really feeling the Green Velvet rmx though.
