(313) Groovetech Prices

2003-07-16 Thread Michael . Elliot-Knight
what the hell is with Groovetech's pricing - most of the records now are
either $9.90 or $11.00+ for a single!

They have Chateau Flight's Cosmic Race for $11.00 but I just bought it at
my local shop for $9.99 - sure I paid tax on it but not *that* much.

Add shipping charges and they kind of price themselves out of being
competitive with other online record shops.

too bad

Re: (313) Groovetech Prices

2003-07-16 Thread ollie
Whoa... must be a hack or corrupted database, checked my wishlist and
shopping cart and almost all the prices are $9.90 or $11.50, unless
these are Canadian prices...

I just received an order from them last week and got 31 12s for
$199.00.

On a side note anyone got any info about the Apple Music store and
independent labels? Anyone have a good contact at Apple music?

cheers,

I don't know what they're going to do. Like John said, the site is one
of the most visually pleasing sites I have ever seen, but functionality
goes right out the window. Maybe their vision would be more fully
realized with software that is actually stored on the users computer
rather than this sluggish Java/ActiveX/etc. thing they got going here.
Either way, I'm sure they spent A LOT of money on that design and may
not have a choice. Very unfortunate because Groovetech is an excellent
online record store.

RE: [313] Groovetech website

2000-11-09 Thread Scott Stone
I found the search pretty easily. You can get around the login by
clicking
your continent. I agree this doesn't seem incredibly intuitive. It's
actually pretty annoying. I didn't bother to register, but it doesn't look
like you get the option to avoid this login screen even if you do.
I do think the buttons are fairly easy to spot. Once I got past the
login,
it was fairly intuitive. (It's just windows, tabs, and buttons) I also like
the new ability to continue searching while looking at the details of an
item, or checking real audio. (the separate windows make this possible)
When searching, I used to have the option to view more items per page,
by
choosing Text. (I'm sure this is invaluable to people w/56k connections).
It doesn't seem to exist on the new site.

Other major complaints --

1. It's easy to break. It crashed my browser on the first try -- IE 5.5 on
Windows 2000. (It's usually pretty stable) I also managed to get a few
javascript errors.

2. It's slow. (cable modem - avg 90-130 kilobytes/sec) I'm curious about
how it comes across on a phone line connection. Anyone out there with a 56k
and a stopwatch?

3. Every time I go to the site, I get a popup saying the page is trying to
display non-secure items. There's got to be a way to prevent that.

4. My normal browsing tools are useless. (Back button, wheel on my mouse,
bookmarks)

5. What is the control panel all about? It looks like a way to minimize and
close windows, but the windows have buttons to do that. I'd expect it to
allow me to change settings of some sort.

6. It's very difficult to browse. All listings are retrieved by searches.

I hope to hear other opinions on this, I think it's overall more intuitive
than the old one. (Listening Lab never really shouted STORE to me)

I imagine it will get better eventually, but it will probably take a
little while. They've been working on this version for a really long time and
the launch was delayed several times.

The people involved are all really smart and creative, but like most
other e-projects it seems a bit understaffed and disorganized over there.

Interesting factoid: the lead buyer for Groovetech is Masa Tauchi,
DJ Masa who runs the minimal techno label 1200. That's why their stock is so
good.

I'm not having that problem, the sound is not that hot, especially the main
stage sets (but there's a lot of extra noise happening,ie, ambient noise).
But my connection is pretty clear, I get congestion about every 20 min or so
but I consider that normal for 56k.

Anyways I just wanted to say that I slobber in appreciation all over
groovetech for bringing me as much good music as they can. I was overjoyed
when I found out that DEMF audio was even available. I think groovetech is
a stellar opperation.

Thank you, thank you, thank you GROOOVETECH!

Every time I try to watch the DEMF footage on Groovetech every 5 seconds
it stops with net conjestion. Is my computer just shitty, or does
  everyone have this problem?

I have the exact same problem. I havent been able to listen to more than
about 3 seconds worth of ANY of the sets, and having to sit here listen to
people talk about how good they are is driving me mad. I cant see how its
my

computer because I have a 56k modem, and I can watch realvideo stuff if its
off the harddrive, but I guess it must be, because most other people dont
seem to have a problem...

Re: [313] (313) Groovetech footage questions

2000-06-02 Thread Roberto Ty
I thought that their presentation was lacking. I spoke with their sales guy at
the tent and wasn't impressed by their product. Tried the demo CD and I'm still
not impressed. Compare that to what Technics was showcasing in the DJ Supply
tent and the Mixman product is an overpriced toy.

Then I thought that their representative on the DEMF stage was downright
annoying. They definitely shouldn't have been up there, especially before
Stacey Pullen's performance. Their DJ Who was allright, but the accompanying MC
was obnoxious, he kept saying the same thing over and over and over:

DJ Who? DJ Who!

Revolution! Revoltion!

Mixman...mixman...mixman...Revolution!

Now Repeat that a gazillion times and you'll get the idea.

Auuugh! Get off the stage. Maybe folks could've gotten into DJ Who's vibe if
the MC would just shut up!!!

That was the worse thing the whole weekend.

phred wrote:

Was everyone as annoyed at the Mixman people as I was? Presuming they
