Hi, I just movend in to a new town here in Brazil, and discovered (in a lack of a better word) a some great producers, very influenced by detroit and minimal. They have been producing for years, and never got to release anything yet... If anyone could take the time to listen to this track, i'd be glad to hear any feedback. http://www.festivalbpm.com.br/mp3/menorah%20-%20ogait%20odecam.mp3 cheers, Flor _ Chegou o que faltava: MSN Acesso Grátis. Hahaha, this made me LMAO. This is the kind of thing that effete indie kids with a passing interest in electronic music would buy if they weren't too timorous to ask for it in Rough Trade. All very nice but it made me want to stick some obnoxious bloodletting Aphex-style evil on my Walkman and run amok in Sainsbury's with a rusty car iron. OK, so I'm bored at the minute. I've picked up this lot in the past two weeks. Some feedback would be good. If they're boring, tell me and I'll stop...! Amp Fiddler ? Love War - Genuine 12 Jesus. This is better than Superficial, it's like half an LP rather than an EP! The first track A1 reminds of Moodymann's 'don't be misled', that beautiful raw lo-fi downbeat house sound laced with mad atmospheric samples. Class. The 'version' of Love War (A2) goes for a more upbeat feel, a slicker lounge sound. Freakin' (B1) sounds like Prince stuck in a phone box with a ruck of acid and a Casio keyboard. It's feckin ace, A really weird downbeat off kilter number. B2 is my least favourite, 'This is How' (although still extremely pleasing) which just leaves Kenny Dixon to turn in a mix of 'eye 2 eye'. One of his driving raw disco cuts that will murder the dancefloors, this is an outstanding MM track that deserves far more vinyl than its been given. IT'S TOO SHORT!! In fact, I have to wonder why all 5 brilliant tracks have been squashed onto one 12. I'd have been happy with my moneys worth with just A1, B1 and B3. I reckon there's something for everyone here. Larry Heard ? Space Jungle/Déjà vu Remix ? Trackmode 12 The A side of this record is a right little abstract gem from the absolute hero of house. It's one of those records you could play as the sun rises and everyone would be just off in their own little world. You get completely lost in it almost straight away, the bass line is beautifully hypnotizing. It's like a painting, completely abstract, but making absolute sense almost immediately. The B side (déjà vu) is a pretty straight up recent Larry Heard production. Very good of course, with a nice vocal and crisp garage beats, just after the stunning a-side, too 'normal' for me! Francois De Roubaix ? La Mer Est Grand (Carl Craig Mix) ? Sido 10 OK. This is a paperclip people style mix from Carl, based around a horn loop that is very familiar, but also unbelievably 'catchy'. I have a feeling it was used in an ad on the TV lately. It's a breakbeat track, more in the style of the Incognito mix but retains the swinging synths similar to Oscillator. Good, not his best mix, but very good. Locally, I can see this record getting some play at the Electric Chair, and everyone loving it?. Rusty Waters Rotating Assembly ? Illumination ? Sound Signature 12 Matt already covered this new Theo project. It's a band, I like this record, although I feel the best is yet to come ? this is a project that has loads of potential. If I was an AR man, I'd be giving Theo a little tinkle round-about now. (If I had money that wasn't mine to spend on expensive recording sessions?!) Pitch Black City featuring Roberta Sweed ? Runaway ? Mahogani 12 Upbeat yet laidback, this first new track from KDJ's Pitch Black City outfit is a sweet jazz house affair. A relentless unchanging beat is backed with live jazzy keys to beautiful effect. Roberta Sweed's tantalising vocal drifts in and out of the mix intertwined with those trademark background noise samples. It's pretty straight up, I get the feeling Mahogani music is going to be the more straight 'bigger' tracks while the more leftfield electronic stuff comes under the Moodymann moniker. Very good, but one sided. This is £3 more than that Amp Fiddler thing will be??.. Stinkworx ? Drexion Caves ? Keynote 12 Otto's Keynote Records get my 'best techno record of the year so far' award I think. Every time I listen to this record, I hear a new depth in it that I didn't hear before. Kicking off with the frantic 'Drexion Caves' I'm starting to head straight for 'No Tocar', bouncing on some really swinging electronic jazz beats with a hook that reminds of Human League, is, I reckon, one of Stinkworx's finest moments so far. I'm equally enthusiastic about Interface, giving me that beautiful Detroit style electronic sound that people like Strand have been championing. Dong Shi Sh Luann continues that vibe in a more up-tempo vein and Kinky Kat is exactly that ? a kinky low slung electronic funk loop with great key work that will hypnotize the more discerning dancefloors out there. Brilliant. Gets better every time I hear it. Claro.Intelecto ? Peace of Mind ? AI 12 I bought this a week or so ago, and was pretty impressed on first listen. It's pretty simple, but nevertheless, premium dancefloor material with great familiar sounds. Title track Piece Of Mind is well produced hypnotic, at times melodic electro, A2 heads into darker electro territory that I'm not really that into... B1 is a wicked little dancefloor tool that reminds me of Walt J a little and Contact (B2) heads into deeper UK techno territory with a lovely old style DX deep bassline. Not as enthusiastic as I first was, but a very

Tom Churchill wrote: Luomo - Vocalcity (Force Tracks) The Luomo stuff has quietly been causing a stir on the underground for a while now and it's easy to see why - six long tracks of impeccable electronic house falling somewhere between Maurizio/Main Street, Herbert, and the Playhouse camp. Beautiful vocal treatments, warm atmospheres, quirky but tracky beats and great arrangements. I have to second this recommendation, I have been playing Luomo heavily, this is a must for fans of Main Street Records or you early Chez and Trent fans -- who are wondering where you can scratch that itch with newer artists (besides the Playhouse and Perlon catalogs). I love the vocals that creep in and out of the murky dubbed-and-dialed-out deep house. And it's a triple-pack so you can mix and match this stuff forever, each track is like 12 minutes long... Also I am way into the other stuff Tom C. Marsel have been reviewing, the Bitasweet, IG Culture and Mainsqueeze/Bugz in the Attic tip, but I skew towards the more electronics-infused stuff than the real way out pure fusion afrobeat stuff... which gets too wanked out for me, personally. People in Detroit looking for the west london / broken beat stuff (i.e. - 2000 Black and various Dego abstract projects of late, like what he was spinning at DEMF) should check out DJ Supply in (yes, Warren!?). Brian go-go Gillespie is doing the buying and the selection is not gigantic but what's there is QUALITY... all the stuff Goya distributes. And there are surprises in the bins like old Roy Ayers reissues for the headz who want to go back that far... Other stuff I can't put down right now: -- CiM - reference LP (DeFocus) -- V/A - Laws of Motion compilation -- V/A sampler and Sonar Lodge 12's on Music for Speakers -- Cheateau Flight - Puzzle (Versatile) - beautiful thoughtful music -- Nubian Mindz - New World Chaos (Archive) so UR insipred! Brillaint -- Soul Circut - Don't Spoil the Tension, soundtrack -- Mafia Sound System (Dialog? / Sonar Kollektiv) weird spooky brokenbeat also heard a wicked 10 on Plug Research but forgot the title... (Mr. Moto?), when did this originally come out? Everything coming out of Rush Hour distribution lately seems red hot too. peace -- Matt MacQueen [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.reverbmag.com archived radio shows -- http://macqueen.com/radio

RE: [313] reviews etc..
It's so heartwarming to see there are so many like-minded people out there doing the same thing, encountering the same problems, having the same ideas and drives. I also have an own radio show. I've been doing radio for about 5 years now. The current show Global Warning has been running for about two and a half years on a dance station in Ghent Belgium. You can't imagine how hard it can be to maintain an underground show even on a dance station. Luckily the man who runs the station (but doesn't own it) has always supported me and protects me from the real bosses. They don't get the music I play and don't see any value in broadcasting interviews with int. techno-artists and stuff like that. The techno community in the region of Ghent however is pretty happy with the show and that is what keeps me going. I also promote artists. I drag along mix-cd's and bio's from G-Force, the best Belgian technoproducer. I do good words for people like Alan Oldham, TP, Anthony Rother, Justin Berkovi, etc., all people I believe in and who diserve to get some attention. I'm in a pretty good position to do this. I frequently do reviews on parties in Belgium and Holland and I know most of the promotors of good parties. They are usually interested in your opinion. Today I received a mail from a promotor in Holland. He was at the DEMF and filmed. We met in Detroit, which is kinda strange because we only live 200km from eachother. Today he mentioned he is going to organise parties on a more frequent basis and was wondering if I could get him in contact with some artists. This is the stuff I love, getting people I believe to play at a party. There is no money in this for me whatsoever, on the contrary (I sometimes send out mix-cd's and tapes with my own money), but the simple fact of being able to do this and the gratitude from the artists who get booked and promoted is more than rewarding. I hope I can expand upon this activity in the future. And 'yes', it would be nice if there was a way of getting paid for this in one way or another, but there are already too many people in this bizz who are solely in it for the money. That's why we can make a difference by not caring for the money and focussing on what it is all about: the music and the people behind it. I was wondering if there are listmembers out there who would like to have one of their mixes broadcasted on my radioshow? We could also start exchanging material like interviews and dj-mixes.
