that confuses things even more. my copy of rhythm control has 'can u feel
it' with the chuck roberts vocal over the top. it sounds the same as the
trax release. it's the b side inside cut.

mine's a green label, black text, four tracks, 1987, no cat # that i can
see, on catch a beat records. the tracks are a)my house radio edit, my
house long version, b)my house dub mix, my house acapella.

although the acapella is no acapella, it's larry heard. on my copy
'acapella' has been crossed out with pen.

I recall when Amnesia was bootlegged a few months back some people
complained about the quality of the pressing but mine is fine, and I'm very
happy to own it. This could be the option 4 u.

Like Jonny, I wondered if the remix was actually by Fingers, since there
were so many crazy versions to come out. I had always figured they were
cheaky Farley remixes. I saw the record at VJ Friday, and was [-] close to
buying it, but I'd just paid so opted against it. The record definitely
*says* it's a 'Chuck D' remix, although I think your assessment above is
right. Since this is a reissue on Traxx, I'd be really surprised if it was a
Chuck D from PE remix, since someone would've heard of it before.

Oh, and I tried to post some record reviews up here yesterday but they
didn't go through, so you can view them here if you're interested:

This may be the case for just a cameo appearance...;)

I was thinking that there were samples of MLK and Chuck

samples Chuck D yelling "House!" and cuts off the "This

You could pick up the recent reissue of Classic Fingers - nicely done on 3
bits of vinyl. The previous one on Blackmarket was only 2 slices. Amnesia
has recently been bootlegged and features "Waterfalls". Picking up the
originals can be hard, but then you can be patient (I'm not very good at
that) and save yourself a fortune.

Just for the record, it's Chuck Roberts, not Chuck D on that release on
Juno. His is the "In the beginning there was..." version that came out on
the UK label Desire originally.

2002-10-15 Thread Odeluga, Ken
Ok, I'll get serious for a bit - anyone tried to get hold of any classic
Fingers recently? (I'm thinking of "Waterfalls" and the like). How difficult
is it going to be?

RE: (313) Fingers

2002-10-15 Thread Robert Taylor
I'm sure I read somewhere that Chuck D HAS dissed house music, saying
something along the lines of, "It's all disco to me".

This may be the case for just a cameo appearance...;)

I was thinking that there were samples of MLK and Chuck
D in the tracks or something. Maybe Mr. Fingers
samples Chuck D yelling "House!" and cuts off the "This
is my..."--like an in-your-face sample...

Without hearing the tracks, it is hard to say, but I
can see Martin Luther King Jr. and Chuck D from public
enemy being referenced together. Without going into
specifics, they are both very outspoken individuals
with liberal political views...

RE: [313] fingers question

2001-01-16 Thread Braden J. King
Some Larry Heard remixes of this track have been released some time ago
on an I! Records 12" (IR-193-B)

Tracklisting is as follows:
A1: Original
A2: Fredrik Stark Mix
B1: Larry Heard JazzCafe Remix
B2: Larry Heard JazzCafe Dub

Pretty good stuff here. Not only are Larry Heard remixes top notch, but
the other tracks are pretty damn good.

Braden.

Indeed, it's about time Larry gets some recognition for his brilliance.
This man single-handedly defined house music with a slew of groundbreaking
material, often with the incredible Robert Owens adding vocals and creating
more magic :-)

Mystery Of Love, I'm Strong, Bring down the Walls, it just goes on and on.

For those who wish to discover him I suggest the Mr Fingers Classics album
on La Casa Records.

Played 'Music Takes Me up' this weekend to a very young crowd who were used
to the cheesy house of the resident DJ, they went absolutely mad, nuff said
I believe...

For newer stuff, try getting the 'Genesis' album - very high quality
music. There are two vocals on there, with Larry himself singing.
'Missing you' spawned a number of remixes including a theo parrish
remix for anyone who's interested.

Definitely worth getting.
