Louis Haiman stoped in between tracks when he played demf'04. i reallyed enjoyed it on the main stage early in the morning. although when I brought him to Pittsburgh he did a more flowing set. Kevin Reynolds and Sean Deason are very good. ANd Pittsburgh's own Shawn Rudimen is a bad bad man live. Yeah, Kevin Reynolds is great. He's playing at the Bohemian National Home this Saturday in Detroit. Also love Octave One and Scan 7. I went to a Scan 7 and Surgeon party last fall at TV Bar in Detroit, it was slamming. Except, TV Bar is called TV Bar for a reason - it's a bar with bunches of flat screen TVs all around, pretty cheesy and they get in the way. Like there's a huge tv right behind the DJ stage. ? And, Surgeon left it on during his set, playing cartoons with the captions turned on. ??? Thankfully, when Lou Robinson got up there (it was just him as Scan 7 that night), he turned the tv off right quick. His live set was really great. I caught Dan Bell doing his live set on Sunday. heres a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHWubgSXMrMfeature=channel_page. He was playing all hardware. I saw a pro one, 909, rackmount sampler and mixing desk. The set was faithful reproductions of all the dbx classics with live vocals. Pretty much the same as at DEMF but cool to see the action up close. Didn't really seem to be improvised or spontaneous at all but fun. Going on ten years now, but Theorem sticks in the mind as one of the most satisfying and sonically involving live techno acts I've witnessed, partly due to the warmth of personality/sound he generated. No flash, all the fireworks were in the music. As mentioned by others, Octave One/RNG can be incredible live from my experience, due to their understanding of the dynamics of the genre. Pacing like a good dj set, but jacked up to a truly moving level both emotionally and physically.
