RE: (313) OT: CD is the new vinyl apparently...
It's all b.s to me, if vinyl is dead, why are we currently living in an oversaturated market of vinyl records being produced.? Everyone and there momma wants to do vinyl and even the mainstream cats are getting back into the market by getting remixes done on vinyl. But I will say one thing about something that came up earlier. THE COST!!! Have dub plate manufactures addressed the extremely high cost of getting a plate done. Are they even concern that MAYBE , just MAYBE the younger generation of d.j.s may abandon them for c.d. or final scratch of whatever for the simple reason that they can't afford to spend $1000 + dollars on every release? Not necessarily an viewpoint, but just a thought on my part. I take my filters and I'm remixing records on the fly. Ahhh, so that's how you remix a record! He might be on to something there? How is this different from using filters on a mixer?? The system also has a memory card that recalls edit points for tracks, meaning that a DJ can travel with only the card and their CDs. Does this imply that you have your mix pre-programmed on a little card? hmm, money has gotta be involved somewhere. When has the BBC ever been on the pulse anyway? They think they are down with 'yoof culture' because they force you to listen to Sara Cox's drivel over breakfast. I remember being in an Amsterdam record shop 12 years ago and having an arguement with some Machester DJ who swore blind that vinyl was dead and that CD mixing was the way forward. He used to come over to Europe every week to pick up all his techno on CD single! It ain't nothing new and if it hasnt set the world alight in 12 years I can't see CDs becoming the new vinyl in a hurry just because some Ibitza whore and the BBC say so. Sorry, but I just hate the BBC. £12 a month I have to pay for Eastenders, Sara Cox and a bunch of other twaddle that I'm not interested in! *bizarre* website to say the least !! Sounds pretty intersting : imagine scratching the cutoff frequency and Q of a filter while simultaneously scratching a sound sample played through that same filter. I notice this as well... RE: (313) OT: CD is the new vinyl apparently...
Havnt spoken to anyone who has used it, but one of the guys in Rub-A-Dub told me a while ago that Claude Young had been talking to him about it (I think he said he had been helping with the development of it, but not 100% sure about this). He definately said that it had more features than final scratch, which was available at this time. Cheers BT *bizarre* website to say the least !! Sounds pretty intersting : imagine scratching the cutoff frequency and Q of a filter while simultaneously scratching a sound sample played through that same filter. I notice this as well... Unlike other systems which employ timecode on vinyl, MsPinky's vinyl records (available in black or pink) contain specially modulated physical location stamps ..wtf is the difference !!?!? H Any reviews about this would be appreciated ! Cool - after having a look around / decipheing the site it appears that's it's like finalscratch but with an opensource type API - which got me on to thinking how hard would it be to buy f/s records and write the software yourself Peace, marc -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, August 07, 2003 3:38 PM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: RE: (313) OT: CD is the new vinyl apparently... you think this means that Subliminal will only release CDs from now on? I can only hope so, because that will mean less crap music will clog up the house bins in record shops.
