i thought, oh there's a couple nice tracks but overall..
not that exciting..very much a lowkey listening album...on cd.
but i prefer it on vinyl sooo much more!

JT I do know what you mean about the low key factor.. but yeah when you
are in the mix with it, it really takes on another dimension... plus
it's more uptempo that lots of his other stuff, so you can mix it with
techno tempo tracks and more disjointed stuff like Liasons, etc.

Just ordered this record... Is it as good as one would expect based on

I haven't bought new records (other than some absolute must haves) in
almost a year due to lack of funds... Any recommendations as to essential
things I may have missed?

I think it's one of his best. Also some nice techno-edginess and synthetic
basslines on a couple of tracks. Nice! I played two tracks on Saturday and
both killed. It's a winner! KDJ has really been on a roll since that first
Mahogani record. I love this new stuff.

J.T. - I'm hearing great things about the C2+Garnier - and the new Pepe
Braddock. I just don't have them yet, so can't comment.

It's slated for September 2003. Still Music is a new label run out of
Chicago. Patchworks are French producers who have done a variety of deep
house / nu jazz /broken kind sounds, but they do a variety. There's more
info here if you can read French (I can't).. I don't think the
soundfiles are working for whatever reason :(

I think it's one of his best.

Yeah it's that good. I really think he's hitting a second stride of his
career, the productions are just getting better and better, more
electronic but just as deep. I will always love the early KDJ sound
too, the low-fi applause and old soul samples in it, really rough. But
this moves him into more of a futuristic direction to my ears, but it's
still conceptual and moody/moving and deep as hell too. This is the
best Moodymann thing he's done in awhile IMHO... there is little else
out there that sounds quite like this, he's breaking more ground with
this release moreso than in the recent past.

I know this sounds corny but if you are a prince fan, this (to me)
conjures up some of the same feelings as prince 'Around the World in a
Day' LP when I first heard it... the whole concept thing.. Condition of
the Heart, etc.. OF course the music sounds very different but it takes
you up and down through a similar series of moods.

Peace,
Matt MacQueen

hating a single track, but this new stuff it seems like everytime
i listen through the album there's a new track on it that stands
out to me. and on the single for silence in the secret garden
there are 2 b sides that arent on the LP and theyre both really
good as well. the next time i spin records i think my set is going
to devolve into a moodymann/amp fiddler megamix.

You are probably thinking of the doublepack of U Can Dance If U Want 2
(KDJ 9) which is basically different jackin reconstructed versions of
all the critics love U in new york (from the 1999 LP, circa '82 or
'83)... amazing.

Then there's the black JAN 12 that is the cut-up interview of the
questions that Mojo asked prince on the air from a detroit radio
interview. The connection is definitely there.

Prince and Detroit is a STRONG connection to be sure. Has everyone read
the interview where Mojo interviews Prince on the air? It's incredible.

LOL. I had to whittle it down to 'just' 5 Moodymann records to bring with me
to the gig Saturday. ;) I know it's been said before, but that latest Amp

I think he's not better known because he's always been fairly slow-paced
with his releases, and over the last few years he has mostly been remixing -
but I think as the body of work accumulates his name will get bigger than it
already is. I think he's been smart to keep his quality high and quantity
low. It's very easy to blend into a see of similar house music if you don't
take the time to make sure that each release is something special, and he
does that really well.

That said, I think he's pretty well known on the merit of Deep Burnt alone.
That's probably been represeed at least 4 or 5 times by now I would think.

Too bad that never resulted in much of a Minneapolis and Detroit connection

I see some rectifying needing to be done
