Um, I was just playing! :)

A Versace stage at DEMF with Lil' Kim and Donatella lurking about, just my
humour!!

I laughed at your earnest reply though, funniest thing since Rob's cookies
recipe. :)

I found it funny Lil' Kim got a cover on a DJ magazine for one gig (in
Japan). This phenomenon of celebrities DJing - Courtney Love, Lil' Kim -
quite fascinating.

Re: [313] demf "contracting" policy

2002-04-15 Thread yussel
i agree. there is definately a gap due to carl's lack of participation.

but also, even if all the big Detroit guys get paid their standard fee,
then that's still not nearly as expensive as last year with flying in
dozens of international artist.

also, i'm quite certain that the first DEMF lost quite a bit of money.

it seems as though there has been money troubles throughout.

carol probably kept this one cheap so she can finally get in the black.

my point is, anyone who protest corporate sponsorship is being
unrealistic. it cost a ton of money to put on the DEMF and it has to come
from somewhere.

I guess I just have trouble seeing that people would travel something like
10,000 miles to see Lil' Kim @ DEMF, when the relationship between her and
the festival is tenuous at best. I could think of about 100 people who could
probably fill her festival shoes, more deservedly. I dunno if your
enthusiasm is because she's a woman (i don't mean this negatively - you just
seem to advocate for women often) or if you genuinely see some tie between

Maybe that's what the 'volunteer' button on the web site is for. We should

then how would you explain the abundance of "big names" the first year of the
DEMF when a big name corporate sponsor wasnt even dreamed of?
so far the very first year of the DEMF was the best. no corporate sponsors,
and no over inflated expectations. just Carl Craig with a Rolodex® full of
talented friends willing to pitch in and make something special happen in
Detroit.
It's not the lack of corporate money that keeps Kevin, Derrick, Kenny, Carl,
Stacey and many others from performing this year. they (we) all got paid quite
well for performing that first year *without* Fords millions.

the sort of money it had last year.

Why Carol Marvin was unable to lockdown a sponsor for, in her words "the
biggest free music festival on earth" is a whole other can of worms.

Just thinking out loud about a possible scenario here: what would happen
if a few of the bookings fall through for whatever reasons (and some
will, it's inevitable). Who is responsible for filling the gaps in the
proposed lineup? Does the decision go back to the artist board or does
PCM then have the liberty to book who they want?

I don't think we know who is sponsoring the festival yet other than
Motor/MGD. I suspect there will be more sponsors announced. I think that's
how it worked last year. If I'm not mistaken the Bacardi announcement came
after the Ford announcement, and it seems odd that the main stage would have
no sponsor and the Motor stage would have one.

I don't think he got a focus. :P

Re: [313] demf "contracting" policy

2002-04-13 Thread Fred Heutte
Don't forget, there *are* worse possibilities than Carol Marvin running
the DEMF.

I think it is important to remember that, regardless of the lineup, and
fully respecting the decision of each featured artist to perform or to
decline, those of us who attend the festival are there because it is
about the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, and not about Carol Marvin.

The fact that it *is* about the Festival in such a strong way is, in my
mind, a continuing tribute to the vision and the focus that Carl Craig
had. So that's just where I stand.

I also think it's important to give full consideration to all the
available facts when assessing the job that Carol Marvin is doing, or
anyone else involved. If she were here giving her side of all the
controversies, maybe we would be more inclined to support her. And
maybe not.

But she's not here, so the fairest approach is to take all the available
info into account instead of just leaping to conclusions. For example,
it should be acknowledged that she recruited an excellent panel to
put together the lineup.

Re: [313] demf "contracting" policy

2002-04-13 Thread yussel
hear hear!!!

me and laura can now bond against a common enemy!!!

what i find really amusing is watching the responses from the public go
"OMG! OMG! Kevin Saunderson, Roni Size, Rob Hood!!!"

The most popular DJs are the ones that have been pulled.

Its almost as if PCM is begging eveyone to hate them.

Lets not get all Freud, but is it possible that Carol Marvin subconciously
wants the festival to fail so she can get away from her own monster.

Or...is she fairly certain that given her appalling handling of the
festival, there is no way that the city will renew her contract. We
already know she's malicious. but is she evil enough to try to destroy
'her' festival before it is handed over to others?

More conspiracy theories at 11.
