Re: RE: Re: [313] curious?

2001-07-20 Thread Fred Heutte
Hans is right. And not only: Mike Banks told me in 1995 how much
he respected what Richie Hawtin has done. This was at a time when
there was a lot of resentment around Detroit about the course the
Plus 8 crew had taken. Richie, Johnny Q and the others never
disrespected the producers and musicians in Detroit, but their
enthusiasm got them in a bit of trouble early on (the Future Sound
of Detroit slogan etc.). To their credit, they made amends
and when I talked with him, Mike acknowledged that. The real expert
on this history remains Dan Sicko, and a lot of the story didn't make
it into Techno Rebels. I think Dan put exactly the right emphasis
on it in print, and the rest is better left to the private views of
those involved.

There's another interesting postscript to the story.

When the DEMF management went off course this year, Richie was the
one who stood up and said what needed to be said. Where were all
the other voices that should have been out there? I'm still
wondering about that. I'm not particularly fond of his DJing style,
actually, but I have total admiration for his focus on his music and
his dedication to a healthy music scene. Richie, like Mike, is one
of the people I count on to carry things forward in a productive
and positive fashion. And they have never disappointed me.

As for the 313 list. I've been privileged to participate here over
the years, and what I have learned is how different this list is
from many others. If you come in here shootin' off, you better know
what you're saying, because not only are there those who know the
story better, but often they were there in the story themselves.

Yeah like whats important in regards to artistic sh*t is that you
put something of yourself in there ; as stated knowing all your records,
or changing things up ..but you still have something, what ever it is thats
coming from you and not a reflection of everything else...
funny when people post sh*t like what U did someone always comes with
the reply below ..' oh thats negitive' ..blah blah etc etc...
then at the bottom they have a UR qoute, to me whats F'ing negitive is
not question sh*t , to accept everything broadcasted at you or to not
say something totally opposite , even for discussions sake to stir up
reactions and cause everyone to think about why they believe what they
do...this is the essence of not letting yourself be controled!!!
cheers!

RE: RE: Re: [313] curious?

2001-07-19 Thread T . J . Johnson

There are no limitations thats only YOUR perspective!

Uuuuh. There are limitations to how deep man can dive into the ocean, how high
man can fly, how long man can live, how loud music can be before a man's
eardrums blow out, how much weight you can lift. The fact of the matter is
that there are limitations to us while we are in this dimension.

I do agree, however, that there is a plane of existence where we are not
limited, but, unfortunately, none of us are inhabiting that plane right now.
Atleast none of us who are typing emails to the 313 list.

I think what was said earlier pertained to realizing our limitations right now.
In the long-run, including our after-life, I think that we are in-fact
limitless. So I guess it just matters what time-scale we are using when we
determine whether or not we are limited. Maybe the ones who really know that
we are limitless in the after-life are those same ones who commit suicide in a
hurry to get to that realm. But maybe that is a bad idea because we will ruin
our chance to get to that plane.

One thing we are not limited in is our imageination.

Imageination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited.
Imagination encircles the world. -Albert Einstein-

I agree with you all. I think it goes both ways. I find myself caught
somewhere between science and reality--wanting to know everything, but
understanding that that is impossible because there is no everything. Limited,
yet limitless. Maybe being both is being limitless. I think so. I find
myslef leaning toward the same opinion as stated above (wv909).

The only thing I may disagree with is people insulting others. We all have
different opinions and perspectives. Let's keep it that way and try not to
impose our beliefs on others and trying to make people feel dumb. Our
differences are what make us (all of us) a limitless entity--taking all of
our beliefs and combining them into one all-encompassing opinion.

Keep 313ing everyone and let's express our limitless existence, here in this
dimension, thru music!

This stuff is really cool to think about...

Jayson I guess you missed lingo 101 last thursday so here's the update on
funk and soul:

funk: the groove that makes your body move
soul: the emotion you feel from the music

funk and soul have nothing to do with 'good' and 'solid'. In fact someone
can mix with a plethora of funk and soul and still not be good or solid.

if a track contains no funk or soul that it would probably not move or touch
a crowd, it becomes the forgettable classic. The song you can't sing in
your head, is the one you forget most often.

Cheers
