Re: (313) help - paul mac
i dont know about the album, but i'm going to chime in and say that i really love his record on surface. the second tune on the a-side really does it for me in a aril brikha meets surface kind of way. Re: (313) help - paul mac
I think they're all worth picking up, definitely - I haven't got the album, but only cause I never found a copy - but the EPs are all excellent. A bit harder / more minimal than my current tastes maybe, but all still very funky and interesting... I think he's one of the most underrated DJs out there too Matt - Original Message - From: Aidan O'Doherty [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Friday, August 27, 2004 2:50 PM Subject: (313) help - paul mac i am a fan of some of paul mac's releases, especially his 'authentic moment' 12 on fragmented, his last album on primate (surprisingly, for me), the fractured releases (his more melodic forays) . . . just wondering if you experts out there can tell me if his album 'old school pupil' is worth picking up - and his other releases on fragmented ('closed account', 'seaside electronics', 'another escape', 'bateman tower'). thanks, aidan

That album is definitely well worth picking up - I would describe it generally as more melodic. Might have to play it this evening actually, I haven't listened to it for ages. s. I think and this may get a load of emails back but I think Mac is one of the best UK producers out there and a very good DJ...another is Mark Broom. -Original Message- From: Pascoe Mr S M [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Fri 27/08/2004 16:03 To: Aidan O'Doherty; 313@hyperreal.org Cc: Subject: Re: (313) help - paul mac That album is definitely well worth picking up - I would describe it generally as more melodic. Yes, Paul Mac is definitely a top producer in my mind. In addition to what you mentioned check out his album Push Came to Shove. It has a nice variety. Also On Going Saga Ep on Immigrant You Realize is a sweet melodic track. --- Aidan O'Doherty [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: i am a fan of some of paul mac's releases, especially his 'authentic moment' 12 on fragmented, his last album on primate (surprisingly, for me), the fractured releases (his more melodic forays) . . . just wondering if you experts out there can tell me if his album 'old school pupil' is worth picking up - and his other releases on fragmented ('closed account', 'seaside electronics', 'another escape', 'bateman tower'). thanks, aidan =

Fragmented had some corkers... the Dan Curtin 'life in the savage garden' has some BRILLIANT tracks, one with absolutely jaw-dropping 808 programming and beautiful synth melodies, lot of momentum, an unforgettable track. I'll have to dig that one out. Morgan G had a couple on EPs on there too. peace -- Matt MacQueen http://SonicSunset.com
Re: (313) help - paul mac
that dan curtin is one of my very favorite curtin records. it's so so good. even at the time it came out the tracks were pretty old, think it's pretty early stuff from him. the mg's are great too! rotating retrospective has a couple really funky-quirky different takes on room 120-2 from quadrilocular, and the other one has the irresistable pico track. i have that paul mac too, i wasnt very impressed with it at the time but pulled it out and yeah it's pretty good. kinda in the same area as dan and morgan's stuff but with a little less personality and more smoothness. there was also that jaime reade (LHAS) album on fragmented, 4xLP! i only got into about half the tracks on it, but still, that meant like..10 tracks or something...some great ones on there! like that very last track that sampled a loop from the strikers' body music (i think??), ran it thru a nice filter and threw some beautiful strings and piano chords over...o...gonna toss it on now actually.. Great record.
