AW: Can't Define DEP Exception On Windows

2019-12-11 Thread Epperlein, Lutz (agendo) via 4D_Tech
Two things I see:

The first one, the Windows Server 2008 will not be supported anymore by
Microsoft from the beginning of the next year. So it would be a very good idea
to update the server OS, if someone will need it for production use (or even in
other cases too).

And for the second, you don't need add such DEP exceptions anymore with newer
versions of 4D. I don't remember which versions don't need this anymore, I
think it started with version 4D v13.

Betreff: Can't Define DEP Exception On Windows

Hi Everyone,

I have a customer who has a Windows 2008 R2 Server. I had 4D v12.5
installed on the machine and added 4D Server and 4D Client v12 as DEP
exceptions. These ran with no problems for many years. I want to
update the 4D software on the same machine to v15.4 and when I attempt
to add the 4D Server v15.4 and 4D Client v15.4 applications to the DEP
exceptions list, Windows displays the following message:

"This program must run with data execution prevention (DEP)
enabled. You cannot turn off DEP for this program."

I'm wondering if the 4D v15.4 applications will run properly without the
DEP exception, or if there is something that I need to configure in
order to allow DEP exceptions to be added for the 4D Server v15.4 and 4D
Client v15.4 applications.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,
Ken Eyring

AW: HTTP Upload file size too low

2019-12-11 Thread Epperlein, Lutz (agendo) via 4D_Tech
The thing with file upload seems to be a bit strange ...

I did some tests and upload a file with size 888.3 MB, no problem.
Another test with a larger file with size 4.4G didn't work. Only a chunk of
334.9 MB (to be exact: 351255546 bytes) was handled. I'm not able to explain
this behavior.

Betreff: HTTP Upload file size too low

Settings for Web Option is at the max limit. However the largest file size I
can receive is around 600mb. The limit should be aprox. 2gb.

Same limit on v13 or v15. "WEB GET BODY PART" will receive zero bytes when
file is over aprox. 600mb. I have not done this kind of coding in years but
I recall testing uploads in the gb range with no problem.

Any clues? Thanks.

The company is content to be using Windows Server 2008 for now, so
that's not my call. I expect they'll update it if it becomes an issue.

Thank you for letting me know that DEP exceptions are no longer needed.
That takes a load off of my mind!

Hey Ken -

DEP hasn't been an issue for a very long time, unless you have some old plug-in
that's requiring it. I thought it was since v11 or maybe even v2004... for sure
v15 doesn't need it.

Really need help to know how to fix this.

Re: AW: HTTP Upload file size too low

2019-12-11 Thread Jim Labos - infobase via 4D_Tech
I seem to remember in the past there was a way to get the entire body and one
would have to parse the contents in order to delineate the part that was the
uploaded file.

Also if you do a WEB GET VARIABLES you will get an out of memory error if
the file is too large (413 - Request Entity Too Large) and the 2 arrays are
empty. I just tried it with 637,939,648 bytes (637.9MB) and that is error I
get on browser just before On Web Authentication is triggered.

The problem is that I would not know beforehand what size of document the
user will be uploading. That is why I am testing to see what the limits are.
I was prepared for the default 2GB limit but I am encountering this wall at
around 600MB.

Last week I did a few tests and I think (I wasn't paying attention as I was
just starting to dabble in the code.) I was able to do around 1.3GB. But
like I said I can't be sure as I was just picking documents randomly as I
tested the code.

I am glad to see I am not the only one getting this result. If anyone has an
explanation or solution I would certainly like to hear about it.

Thanks

Hi John,

I just tested this on v17.2 64bit on macOS 10.13.6 and and OK variable
returning 1 if you click “Print” button in the dialog and 0 if you click
“Cancel” button.

Also tested this on v17.2 64bit on Windows 10 Home and got the same results.
OK variable is being set correctly.

So it appears to be you and your configuration. Now you need to go into
troubleshooting mode…

1. Are you both clicking the “Print” button in the print dialog box, or you
pressing return key or enter key. I clicked the Print button, or clicked the
Cancel button.

2. Have you created a new database and a method with just:

PRINT SETTINGS
TRACE

and then run that method and check the debugger for OK value?

3. What printer driver are you and your client using? Try printing to a
different printer. (Set the default printer at the OS level first. Then start
4D and do the test)

4. Are either of you selecting a different printer when the dialog box is
displayed or using the default printer that is already selected in the dialog
box. I used the default printer.

Reminds me of a bug reported to me many years ago by a user that I could not
reproduce. Turned out the user was using the keyboard to initiate an action and
it was failing. I was using the mouse and clicking a button to initiate the
action and it worked.

That’s all I can offer.

What is wrong with my regex command.

Hi John,

I’m running Windows 10 Home on Parallels 14.1.3.

Re: PRINT SETTINGS Not setting OK to 1

2019-12-11 Thread John J Foster via 4D_Tech
Hey Tim,

So created a new db with only this code appears to work:

PRINT SETTINGS
If (OK=1)
ALERT("Print!")
Else
ALERT("Cancelled!")
End if

So there is something in our application that has caused this behavior.

So I’ll have to figure a way to troubleshoot.

I guess that’s progress!

Thanks Tim,
John…

Hi Chuck,
I can't say what's wrong, regex is hard to read for me and with 4D's double \\
it's worse… I often develop in BBEdit, then paste in 4D to avoid this - even if
regex engines are a bit different.

I'd use this:
  $rx_t:="^_o_ENABLE BUTTON\\((\\*;)?(.*)\\)"

example:
  $test_c:=New collection()
  $test_c.push("_o_ENABLE BUTTON(buttonVar)")
  $test_c.push("_o_ENABLE BUTTON($var)")
  $test_c.push("_o_ENABLE BUTTON(*;\"buttonName\")")
  $test_c.push("_o_ENABLE BUTTON(*;$name)")
  $rx_t:="^_o_ENABLE BUTTON\\((\\*;)?(.*)\\)"
  ARRAY LONGINT($pos_al;0)
  ARRAY LONGINT($len_al;0)
  For each ($test_t;$test_c)
ASSERT(Match regex($rx_t;$test_t;1;$pos_al;$len_al))
  End for each

I'm not sure the starting anchor "^" suits your case, it depends on how you
manage the method. For my own, I always split code in lines before, then I loop
on lines. Split string command is nice for that (too bad it's slow).

Hi John,

Definitely progress.

Do a search for the “OK” variable in your code — Find in Design. See if
somewhere you accidentally have declared it as something other than a C_LONGINT.

Long, long time ago I made the mistake of declaring some variables with names:
“C1”, “C2”, “C3” etc. Caused problems with some Quick Reports because it uses
these variable names for calculated columns. My declaring them overrode 4D’s
declaration/usage.

Re: AW: HTTP Upload file size too low

2019-12-11 Thread Jim Hays via 4D_Tech
I've been dealing with the same thing. Uploading a zipped, built
application to a "pub" server.
I'd get different results testing on different machines. It's said in this
thread, that ultimately the file is in a blob, and a blob needs contiguous
blocks of memory. The state of memory could vary. Another thread
mentioned 64-bit 4D is obviously better.

https://forums.4d.com/Post/EN/17791174/1/17800233#17800233

I ended up zipping things by folders, so I never had a file larger than 90
MB, and transferring 4D server to 4D server, all 64 bit.
Miyako also mentioned chunking the file into parts - I didn't try that.

Re: Windows Build - STR# 10135, 18/19 Folders

2019-12-11 Thread Allan Udy via 4D_Tech

Hi John

Did you ever get to the bottom of this?

I've just had v17R6 start to do this to me under Windows 10 when I
attempt to compile/merge engine an app that compiled perfectly fine with
v17R5.

In my case the Server and Clients apps are in a folder called

STR# 10135, 20

Any light you can shed on this would be hugely appreciated.

Cheers
Allan

Subject: Windows Build - STR# 10135,18/19 Folders

Hey All,

I couldn’t find anything in KB that explained this situation.

Windows 10 -4D v17r4

I just noticed that the build of an engined version of my app creates two
foldersnamed:

STR# 10135, 18 -> Appname.4dbase -> includes the .4DC/.4DIndy files
STR# 10135, 19 -> Appname -> includes executable

Is this related to the application build XML or JSON file?

Cheers,
