If these attachments are certification messages from
AVG, they can be stopped by changing the preferences
in AVG. In settings, there is an option to send a
certification message with Sent mails. It is turned on
by default. Turning it off will avoid that attachment.

AVG will still continue to scan your mail for viruses
but will not add a certification message at the end of
the mail.

Hello all!

Today, almost all the mails I received are with attachments.

Are we getting these attachments from the accounts at some particular e mail
servers?

Are their private mails too going with the same types of attachments, whose
mails are arriving to the list with attachments?

Finally, can there be a possibility for kiran to send a test mail to the
list? using the same server, which gets and then distributes our mails.

I think, finding answers to these questions may help us all in going for a
possible solution.

Regards,
Keshav.

the site is never completely secure, as secure means encrypting and
decrypting, which takes some amount of computing. someone with slow computer
or slower connection may experience lack of responsiveness during opening of
a secure page. So websites selectively have secure or non secure pages, i.e.
when you are entering your credit card details or entering your password on
bank sites, you will have secure page, else non secure page is sufficient,
that's why you get these dialogs even on secure sites.

Re: [AI] Help - Security Dialog

2006-08-18 Thread Dinesh Kaushal
Hi Vidya,

Security dialog is to inform you about secure or non secure web pages. when
you transition from a secure page to a non secure or vice versa, the dialog
pops up to inform you the status.

You can also figure out if the page is secure or not by looking at the web
address. if it has http: then it is not secure, but if it has https: then it
is secure.

In a secure page, the information that you enter on the page is sent to the
web site after encrypting it. The web site receiving the encrypted
information then decrypt the information. The algorithm (RSA algorithm named
with initial letters of three of it's inventors) uses pair of keys, out of
which one key is public and the other is private.
The web site sends the public key to your browser , but no one other than
the web site knows the private key (that's why it is private. Any one who
knows the public key can encrypt the information, but without the private
key no one can decrypt the information.

private key how ever is not totally secure, given enough computing power, it
can be deciphered. But the computing power available commonly is not enough
to decrypt 128 bit or higher. it is shown by many researchers (using super
computers) that up to 140 bits can be decrypted, (exact number may differ)
as
it's been some time for me when I had last updated my knowledge. the time it
takes to decipher a key, grows exponentially, i.e. if it takes to decrypt a
key an hour, it will take 2 hours to decrypt the same key with one more bit
added to it. If you have read about the story where a king is happy and
promises a guy to give what ever he wants, and the guy says give me 1 grain
on the first cell of the chess, 2 on second and 4 on third, double the
amount with each cell, and later they figure out that pretty soon they ran
out of the whole grain supply of the state. that's how exponential growth
works.

The same technology is used by digital signature, but the process is
reversed. anything that one wants to sign, is encrypted using the private
key and your public key is used to decrypt the information. now the problem.
how will someone verify that actually you signed the document? since your
private key is not available to anyone. There comes a hierarchical system of
maintaining private keys, where each entity stores the keys, and the final
private key is with verisign, who maintains it somewhere in USA and the
facility is guarded like nuclear facilities. When we get digital signature,
we get our private key which we should preserve with utmost care, and the
issuing agency saves our private key by encrypting it with their public key,
and their own private key stays with their issuing agency. and they do not
have access to their own private key, so they generate our public key before
encrypting our private key, as they will not be able to decrypt our private
key then onwards. So if you want to verify that some public key is actually
the public key of the entity who claims so, you send that public key to the
verification agency, who maintains the private key and the public key, they
match your public key with the public key that they have, and tell you the
status.

Digital certificates maintain all the information required to identify an
entity. But we don't have to do all the above ourselves, mostly the software
that we use do all the activity behind the seen.

Hope it clarifies.

Dinesh

Re: [AI] CV

2006-08-18 Thread Kiran Kaja
Hi Keshav and all,

The attachments you are seeing are just text files indicating that some of
the mime or html content in messages are stripped off. These are not harmful
at all. This may happen when someone sends a mail to the list in format
other than plain text.

Even then, I changed some settings and let us see if this makes any
difference.

Thanks,
Kiran.

[AI] First blind women Chartard Accountant

2006-08-18 Thread Vishal M Jain
Hello everybody,

You will be amazed by looking at the achievement of one of our group member
Rajani Gopal who is the first women Chartered Accountant.

WOMEN IN ACCOUNTANCY

Failures are footsteps to success, says a woman

who beat blindness to become a CA

A visually impaired CA. G Rajani is one of those rare courageous women who have
defied all odds to pursue the CA Course and ultimately succeeded in

becoming a professional. Employed in a good position, she shares with the CA
fraternity and all those

aspiring to become professionals the challenges she faced in coming up in life.

I

developed Steven Johnson Syndrome due

to medical negligence at the age of 9. As the

deterioration of

vision was gradual, I

was able to complete

my graduation,

articleship training and

Intermediate CA with

limited vision. After I

lost my vision in 1994,

I had to look for an

alternative mode of

studying to pursue the

course. Coupled with

my father's sickness,

I had to fight a battle

CA. G. Rajani

vision. Similarly it was all the more difficult to

get volunteers for reading or scanning after I

ultimately lost my vision.

But I was lucky enough

to get in touch with few

likeminded people who

volunteered to provide

assistance despite

their busy schedules.

When I cleared the

final examination, I

was overjoyed and

overtaken by a great

sense of fulfilment. All

my struggles and efforts

had been suitably

on physical, emotional

and mental fronts. I started practising Sahaja

Yoga meditation, which gave the confidence and

overall balance to come out of the trauma.

My urge to pursue the course became stronger,

once I learnt to work on computers using screen

reading software. The Institute was kind enough

to provide the study materials in soft copy. For

subjects like tax, I scanned the texts to convert

the same to soft copy. For subjects like costing, I

had to take the assistance of volunteers. I took up

the Final examination and cleared it in November

2002, by availing of the scribe facility. The Institute

also granted me extra time as per Regulations,

which helped me a lot.

Of course I did come across lots of difficulties

in pursuing education. I was not able to study

continuously due to pain and itching in the

eyes, outflow of tears and fast deterioration in

rewarded.

The next struggle was to get into a career in

tune with my qualification. It took me almost 33

months after clearing the final examination to

get the necessary breakthrough. Thanks to the

placement cell of the Institute, because of which I

was able to get the breakthrough.

I wish to share few facts with the readers.

Due to development in technology, support of

volunteers and broader outlook from educational

institutions, I feel that physical challenge is no

more a handicap to pursue our studies. There are

many areas in the field of accountancy, which

to a large extent can be handled by the visually

challenged, with the help of computers. Thanks

are also due to employers who take the bold step

of providing an opportunity for people like us.

I feel that since there is no concession

whatsoever in the examination pattern, it gives

WOMEN IN ACCOUNTANCY

a great sense of fulfilment to qualify as a CA just

like a normal person. I would highly appreciate

if the Institute provides materials in soft copy,

especially for subjects like tax, since it requires a

lot of time to scan the materials. It would also be

great if members or aspiring professionals like us

can get the updates on the latest developments

in soft copy or in recorded audio form. Since the

avenue is now open, I am sure many visually

challenged will take up this prestigious course in

future. I hope that the Institute will assist these

students not only in their studies but also in their

career. I have noticed that it is very difficult to

market our candidature at the individual level, but

at the Institute level it can be done pretty easily.

The institute could encourage its members not

only to volunteer in helping people who have to

put in a struggle like me but also help in meeting

prospective employees and getting them placed.

The outreach of the Institute being what it is, this

could be easily incorporated.

There were a lot of hurdles and failures both in

my education and career. But I was persistent. With

some support I found avenues opening up for me.

Failures become footsteps to success when there

is perseverance, commitment, determination,

sincerity of purpose and accepting the situation

we are put into.

2006-08-18 Thread sameer latey

A great article and an outstanding person.

Nikita is a role model not only for blind girls but
for all blind persons, especially those who let their
disability overcome them. Nikita has accepted that her
disability imposes certain limitations and has strived
to overcome those limitations. She did not opt for the
soft option of remaining a M.A. in music but chose to
break into new areas.

A true trailblazer.

[AI] shining bright

Hello friends,
Please find below an article appeared in 'The Free Press Journal' on 18th
August 2006.

Shining
Bright

Punit Karnik

“What a blind person needs is not a teacher but another self”, quotes Helen
Keller. Nikita Vaid, 21, did just that. Born blind, Nikita, a Mulund
resident overcame her disability since childhood and today she stands tall
with a degree of Bachelors in Management Studies (BMS) from Mumbai
University. What special about the feat is that, Nikita is the first of her
kind to be a BMS graduate, with a whopping score of 82 %. She is currently
pursuing a diploma in Human Resource management (HRM) from Welingkars.

Nikita did her schooling like any other normal kid from an mainstream school
and stood second with 79% in the merit list for the disabled. . At the HSC
level, she secured first meritorious position in the Arts faculty scoring
77%.

Life was never a bed of roses for Nikita. She had to overcome several
bureaucratic glitches during her graduation days.. Mumbai University had
refrained her from appearing for the entrance exam, which is a prerequisite
for getting admitted into BMS. “The Dean showed apprehension with my case
for he insisted that there would be many project work which would be
difficult for me to handle “, says a now confident and proud Nikita. There
were no concessions given for questions based on Visual Reasoning during the
entrance exam but Nikita cleared he test with a decent score and approached
the Mulund College of Commerce (MCC) for further admission.

Again, the management was disinterested in allowing her to seek admission
but, the individual that Nikita is, she argued her case with sheer
determination. She not only proved mettle by topping the BMS stream but was
also in the top three rankings of her class throughout the entire course.
She has also been Ms. MCC and the Best Student of her college.

“The corporate world has always enchanted me. So I am pursuing MBA in the
future. But I am skeptical for appearing for CAT as it has questions based
on visual reasoning and if I get them wrong, there are negative markings.
And there is no chance of getting any consideration from the University.
Hence, I am opting for CET and hope that the respective colleges would be
co-operative. It is a sad picture that students like us do not get any
support from the planners of the education system who are static and not
empathetic”

However, she was lucky enough to have tremendous support in all forms
throughout her academic span. From her school teachers and friends to the
teachers in National Association for the Blind, India (NAR) who taught her
Braille at an early stage. She is grateful to NAB who provided her with the
Braille and audio literature.

Nikita simply is a multifaceted persona. Balancing her studies, she keeps a
keen interest in music. She has done her M.A. in Indian classical music from
Chandigarh University and is a Visharad. Currently, she has a five years
contract with All India Radio, Mumbai.

At the same time, she is also tech-savy. She learnt computers five years
back and is now a master at it with the help of software called ‘Job
Accesible with Speech (JAWS). She is also proficient at attending smses and
replying to them apart from attending calls. Thanks to software called
‘Talx’ that speaks out the sms and other information in the mobile, she is
fond of her new acquisition. She is also fond of travelling and has enjoyed
her field trips to Goa and Hyderabad with her college friends and to U.S>
and Canada with her family.

Her motto in life is “Be positive”, just like her blood group. Nikita
intends to fight for the rights of visually impaired individuals especially
girls in the future. “There are some girls who are not as exposed to the
outside world as I am, but they might show an inclination. However, the
inert education system might not be co-operative to them and therefore, they
might give the hope of higher education. Such individuals should fight till
the end without giving up”. Nikita has already started her mission by
setting an example for others to follow suit.

Hi Eknath

May I give you a tip, when you are replying to a thread, please go to the
top of the message and put your views.

Or else, those using screen readers would find it difficult to search for
what you want to say.

[AI] Digital Gear: Back Up, Digitally

2006-08-18 Thread Vikas Kapoor
Digital Gear: Back Up, Digitally

Backing up--your PC or your car--can be hard to do. This month's gadgets can
help.

Agam Shah, IDG News

What do computers and auto safety measures have in common? The need for proper
backup! Fortunately, there are more slick data backup options for PCs than
ever before, as Apricorn's high-capacity Aegis Mini hard drive proves. And
nowadays, digital backup isn't restricted to PCs: Roadmaster USA's Roadmaster
Wireless VR3 Backup Camera delivers images from a car's rear to a dashboard
screen, to help make driving in reverse safe. Also in the mix this month is
Logitech's Wireless DJ Music System, which wirelessly transfers music from a PC
to stereo speakers.

Apricorn's Aegis Mini

Data on my hard drive magically disappeared a year ago, so now I back up my
data monthly onto CDs. An attractive backup alternative is Apricorn's Aegis
Mini, a portable, pocket-size, 60GB hard drive that is both speedy and
convenient to carry.

The $239 drive uses a short wire to connect to a computer's USB 2.0 port. As
with other USB memory devices, the PC immediately detects the drive, and
voila--you
have an extra storage device. In my tests, data transfer rates between the
Aegis Mini and an internal hard drive were quicker than with any flash storage
device I've used, which makes the drive an ideal backup device.

The Mini comes with a cable extension and Apricorn's Data Protection Software
Suite for data backup, synchronization, and encryption. The drive is compatible
with Windows 2000/XP and Mac OS X. It is available at
Apricorn's Web site .
A
Firewire version
is also available, for $249.

Seat belts, air bags, GPS equipment...there are never enough car safety
devices. Now you can add to the list Roadmaster's Roadmaster Wireless VR3 Backup
Camera, a two-piece camera and LCD screen combo designed to protect a driver
from accidents when moving in reverse. The camera's lens, which sits by the
rear license plate, shoots and wirelessly transmits images to a 2.5-inch
(6.35-cm) color screen on the car's dashboard. The camera is useful for giving
you a clear look at potentially dangerous traffic as well as for revealing kids
or pets playing behind the car, so you can back up safely.

Roadmaster officials caution drivers that they should still always look back
when driving in reverse; this $149 device is supplemental. Intended primarily
for minivan and sports-utility vehicle users, the camera has a 110-degree
horizontal and 80-degree vertical viewing angle. The Roadmaster Wireless VR3
Backup Camera is available at major U.S. stores or at
Roadmaster's Web site .

Though PC sound systems continue to improve, some users still prefer to hear
songs played through high-wattage stereo speakers. With that in mind, Logitech
has announced the Wireless DJ Music System, a three-piece hardware package that
wirelessly transmits music files from a PC to a stereo system. The equipment
bundle includes a receiver, a transmitter, and a remote control.

Unlike other wireless music bridge products, such as Linksys's
Wireless-G Music Bridge
and Sondigo's
Sirocco --
both of which use Wi-Fi--Logitech's Wireless DJ relies on Bluetooth 1.2.

Bluetooth's range is more limited than Wi-Fi's, but the DJ uses Bluetooth Class
1, which Logitech says expands the reach of signals. Using adaptive frequency
hopping, the DJ identifies interference sources and transmits the music over a
channel that isn't subject to interruption, Logitech said.

The transmitter, which you attach to your PC's USB port, sends songs to a
receiver connected either to a stereo system via standard RCA connectors or to
multimedia speakers via a headphone jack. Logitech says that the DJ can
transmit music roughly 50 meters (150 feet). A screen-equipped remote control
displays
the PC's audio files and controls playback and volume.

The system is slated to ship in late September in the United States and Europe,
for $250.

Lock That iPod

Targus Group International combats iPod theft with the Mobile Security Lock for
iPod--a gadget designed for iPods with dock connectors that prevents would-be
thieves from plucking the device off a backpack, purse, or briefcase. A
retractable cable with a three-digit combination lock loops around a strap to
secure
the iPod. Of course, it only works with iPods with dock connectors. You can
find the $40 device at Apple retail stores or at the
Targus Web site .

[AI] Request

2006-08-18 Thread Shadab
Dear list members:

Since few days, we are receiving messages that are of no use. Here, I want
to make a request to all the list members that please don't reply or give
your views on them, because all the members are not so rich to afford the
expenses of the data download.

It is to be noted that the original message is very short, but because of
our complaints and directions it does not remain so. We waist our time in
it. Please stop replying these messages.

Whoever is sending these mischievous messages, should understand the
problems of other people, and stop it immediately, please. And after my
earnest request, if any one would go on to do these flagrant things, he
would be stone hearted, in my opinion; and above all God is sufficient to
monitor every one.

Please don't thing that I've alluded any specific person in this mail.

  Thanking you all,

Shadab Husain Mo.9335206224

Re: [AI] CV

2006-08-18 Thread Mahesh Panicker

well. the day before, someone in the list wrote that there was a posible
infected file with one of my mesages. my system has no such problem so far,
and i don't know how can it happen. that is why i thought i would bring
forward the matter of that strange mesage to the moderater. i don't want
anyone to do the functions of police.
neither do i find anything undignified on my part. there is no need for an
arguement on this issue.
but i just wanted to make my part clear as am the one who started this.
thanks and regards. this.

Dear Listers,
Please ensure that our responses to these kind of unwanted messages are
well
measured and thought out. Moderator is not a policeman and is expected to
approve all our messages before they are posted on to AI. He is purely
doing
a voluntary service and not obliged to take on all our criticisms. I think
that we are crossing limits in our responses. We should make sure that our
responses are dignified and professional. I want to honestly state that I
am
pained at the recent happenings in AI and not able to enjoy my visits. Not
that it will make any difference to any one of you, if I leave the site. I
know that some of you will care a dam. But, please remember, in the
process,
we will be destroying a meaningful interaction among the VIPs and set a
bad
example, how we are not united and unprofessional. Please introspect on
this
and let us change our tone of observations.
