Dear list
Hi all
If I am running jaws from external drive such as cd it will run as demo on
computer, if I don’t have license. that means it will not run after 40
minute. In odder to work with jaws again on same computer, do I have to

Plan to install audiometers in autos under study

 Gaurav Vivek Bhatnagar

To protect visually-impaired passengers against fleecing

NEW DELHI: As soon as a visually-impaired passenger enters a autorickshaw,
he or she is greeted with an electronic welcome'' and then a recorded
 sound
says, Starting fare is Rs. 8.'' Then when the passenger has completed the
journey, the same electronic audiometer says aloud, Total fare is Rs. 24
 and
50 paise'' and the distance travelled is 3 kilometres and 400 metres.''
While high-end technology may be a far cry in Indian autos - which,
 incidentally,
have started operating in Britain too - this is how Delhi's 45,000
registered autorickshaws are expected to start operating soon.

Under a plan that is under active consideration of the Delhi Transport
Department, the audiometers will have an audio output and will be
 installed in the
electronic fare meters of all the autos so that visually impaired people
will be able to know the distance travelled and the fare to be paid.

 Cost-effective

Work on the audiometers is being done by the Samarthya Centre for
Promotion of Barrier Free Environment for Disabled People and the
 audiometers will be
installed for making the passengers' journey more comfortable. According
to Sanjeev Sachdev of Samarthya, the audiometer, basically an integrated
 circuit
that would be installed in the existing meters, would be both easy to
install and cost-effective. Costing just a few hundred rupees each, these
 ICs would
also hopefully make manipulation of the meters difficult. Work was under
way to improve the quality of sound emanating from them.

 Braille plates

Simultaneously, to make travel for the visually impaired passengers safe
and independent, the Transport Department had approved of the plan for
 installing
Braille plates bearing the registration number of the autos on the
exterior of the vehicles. This would make it easier for them to know the
 registration
 number of the erring vehicle.

  Hello,
From Past some days I am facing some problem
 with out look express. That
 is.
I have 6 accounts configured in out look
 express. And I have just
configured my new seventh I d.
And my Default I d is the fourth I d.
When I compose a new message it goes as it is
 suppose to from the
default I d. but, When I want to forward or reply to
 a mail then? Instead of
going from the same I d, from which the mail has
come? It just goes from the
new seventh I d. which I have just configured.
 Actually it should be going
from the I d from which that particular mail was
 received.
I have no clue why this is happening. And till
 I do not delete the
seventh I d. this problem does not get rectified.

Your help will surely be appreciated.

Emergencies: More than Knowing 9-1-1
With severe weather being reported in the news, we are reminded how
important it is to be prepared for emergency situations. Most of us don't
realize how
unprepared we are for emergencies until one occurs. Don't let that happen to
you.

Hadley's course, Safety in the Home, provides essential information to
protect you, your family and your home during unforeseen emergencies.

The best way to deal with emergencies is to be prepared for them
beforehand, says instructor Ed Haines. Never think an emergency won't
happen to you.
Advance preparation may save your life.

This tuition-free course can be completed at your own pace and in the
comfort of your home. ?Safety in the Home? is available in large print, in
braille,
on audiocassette and is online. The course is open to students in Hadley's
Adult Continuing Education and High School Programs.

Based on U.S. safety standards, the seven lessons explore how to prepare for
emergencies. The course begins by outlining preliminary steps in emergency
planning, then describes home safeguards and modifications. Fire
preparedness is included, as is general disaster planning. Disasters, such
as earthquakes
and tornadoes, are specifically mentioned. Weather emergencies involving
extreme heat and cold are also included. A resource list accompanies the
course.
Please note, this course does not provide instructions in first aid.

So why not enroll so you can protect yourself, your family and your home? To
do so, just call Student Services at (800) 526-9909 or enroll online at

Founded in 1920, The Hadley School for the Blind is one of the largest

Subject: [AI] A Big Problem, Help Requested Soon.

 Dear All members of accessindia,

This is Anubha from Allahabad. I'm facing a problem
since 2-3 days, ever
since I've installed JAWS 5.0 in my PC which has
WINDOWS'98.

Jaws 5.0 runs fine for first 10-15 minutes when I'm
working either in MS
WORD or OUTLOOK EXPRESS ( these are the only
applications I use
frequently ), after

the comp is switched on. Then after 10-15 minutes
,an error is displayed,
which is 'THIS PROGRAM HAS PERFORMED AN ILLEGAL
OPERATION WILL BE SHUT
DOWN.

IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS CONTACT THE PROGRAM
VENDOR.'

Even when I unload JAWS 5.0 by PRESSING ENTER, after
PRESSING INSERT + F4,
jaws keeps on telling aall the keys ( for eg if I
press the SPACE KEY or any

alphabet or number or even the ESC KEY, JAWS 5.0
will inform me about it,
even after I've UNLOADED JAWS 5.0 by that time )except
the WINDOWS KEY.

Now, I request u to Pls guide me as to What should I
Do? Is there any
solution for my problem ?

I also want to inform u that I also have the DEMO
VERSION of JAWS 4.5
installed on my PC since last 3 years it is working
fine without causing
me any

problem what so ever except that I've to RESTART my
PC after e'y 40
minutes.

Yr earliest kind attn reply with some permanent
solution to my problem
will be deeply appreciated.

Thanking u in anticipation. With best regards.
ANUBHA.

[AI] The Hindu in digital form

2006-09-08 Thread Mayavan Gopalakrishnan
The Hindu in digital form

The Hindu will be formally launched in digital form, that is, as an e-paper on
the Internet, on Sunday, September 10, 2006. The newspaper can be read at
http://epaper.thehindu.com

Three digital editions of the newspaper - Chennai, Hyderabad, and Delhi - will
be available at this first stage. The Hindu's digital editions will be available
for viewing at 6 a.m., Indian Standard Time (IST) every day from September 10,
2006. Access will be free for now but users will be required to register
online.

What does the e-paper offer the online reader? The newspaper itself, nothing
less. You can see each page as it appears in each of the three print editions.
This means all the reports, articles, photographs, and other graphics have been
organised, laid out, and presented according to their importance, with
the appropriate typography and design elements. You can also see the
advertisements as they appear on the page.

The e-paper has been developed for The Hindu by Nine Stars Information
Technology and IBM using state-of-the-art technology and offering high
resolution
and versatile features.

Whole pages, articles, photographs and other images can be viewed in .pdf and
.jpg format, and articles can also be read, as text. You can make use of the
Internet's powerful feature - search. The e-paper offers you search in several
forms: You can look for something specific using the search engine. You
can also track stories in your areas of interest by setting your preferences
for My News, a news tracking feature. You can clip articles and photos for
future reference and can email them to a friend.

A week's back issues of the digital editions of The Hindu will be available in
the archive.

[AI] Help required for a friend

2006-09-08 Thread sameer latey

Dear Members,

I am asking this query on behalf of a friend.

She was previously using JAWS version 5.0 Standard and
has upgraded to version 7.0 Standard. She was using
JAWS on a computer running Windows 98 and now wants to
upgrade to Windows XP Home edition. In this
connection, she has the following queries.

1. Will the authorised version of JAWS 7.0 Standard
running on Windows 98 also run on Windows XP Home? She
has seen the different download versions for 98 and XP
on the FS website.
2. How can she retrieve the authorisation key from her
Windows 98 computer for use on her Windows XP
computer. She has used the JAWS authorisation CD to
authorise JAWS 7.0 on the Windows 98 computer.

Any help in this regard will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
