Re: [AI] transfering images from mobile to computer!

2007-11-09 Thread Mamta
Hello tanya!
here are answers to your questions!
to save the photo from your mobile to your computeryou just have to connect
your mobile to your computer ither via blue tooth and send one by one and
save it!
or connect it with data cable of your mobile and copy and paste the
photographs to your desired folder in the desired location!
Please note that you will need nokia p c suit for that purpose!

2. to save your photograph which are sent as an attach ments in to your e
mail!
if you are using outlook express you can use the save attachments option and
brouz and save it to your prefered location!

if you are using webmail then!
you have to download the attachments as you normally download the file and
save it in to your prefered location!

hope this solves your query!
do feel free to ask me if you need any further
explainations/clearifications!
hope this helps!
Happy diwali and a prossperous new year to you all
do enjoy your selves and have a safe diwali!
many thanks
regards
Mamta.

And after you friend reply your chat, go to chat box and press f 6 to read the

And, if your f 6 key is not function, that's mean, you must put back the

[AI] Here's Your Diwali Gift!

2007-11-09 Thread Ramit Luthra
Many of our friends have requested me to upload Vachak on sendspace so
here it is, I have uploaded it, + with an extra bonus gift bundled
together; that is, viavoice outloud! If someone asks What is it? So,
it's a speech engine for many foreign languages like US
and/UK/Australian English, french and ...!
But, what I have read on the website of LSW and in its user manual,
tells that Vani supports only US English version of ViaVoice at
present. But that's not bad, after all, we'll get rid of bloody
Narrator voice and may enjoy jaws like voice with LSW!

So, go grab the gift you all,
Vachak:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/noekjf

http://www.sendspace.com/file/ibilg6

http://www.sendspace.com/file/c5pn5j

http://www.sendspace.com/file/e1kh9d

Outloud:
USXX (2m, contains only USEnglish engine)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/wn4esj

Full (17m)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/o3lqev

http://www.sendspace.com/file/qs3ib8

You should download the full one as you may require to install any
other language in future, but as of now, you're required to install
the US English engine only. I recommend you to install it from the
main folder's outloud setup.exe file instead of its subfolder USXX
folder's setup.exe file. If you're installing from the main setup.exe
file, uncheck all the other languages check boxes (if they are checked
by default.)

After installation
To have viavoice worked with Vani, you must do one thing (which you
can also read entirely on the download page of LSW,) anyway I'm just
explaining it briefly here.
Open the program folder of viavoice (which should be 'c:\Program
Files\Via Voice' or something similar to it,) copy the file named
'ibmeci50.dll', open system's system folder (just tyep 'system32' in
the start menu's run dialog and press enter,) and paste the file here,
you're done!

Note: What I have read on sendspace, if an uploaded file isn't
downloaded for seven (7) days, the file is deleted automatically (for
free users), So, do download it frequently to persist it for others.

Happy Diwali..!..!..!
Ramit

2007-11-09 Thread amar jain
Respected Sir,
Hope you enjoyed this Diwali. Well there are many sites from which we
can download the songs in mp3 format. But I liked:
esnips.com
This is the site where many different users share their things. I just
type the song's first line and usually I get it. Try it out. To
download the song, you will need to join.
Others:
mp3hungama.com
songs.pk
masti4india.com
One more advise, download the lime wire. It is a torrent client and
itself a search engine. I liked it very much. If you need then I can
send you more websites. Please tell me that which type of songs you
want.

[AI] Desktop search tools

2007-11-09 Thread V. Balakrishnan
Hello friends,

Here is some useful info on desktop search.

Balakrishnan

Desktop search tools make computer use easier

IANS

WASHINGTON: With computers these days, it's all about
search and there's a good reason. With mounds upon
mounds of data on our hard drives, the primary
obstacle we face is finding what we need when we need
it.

The irony is that it's almost easier to find
information online than it is to find it on our own
PCs. Thankfully, that's changing. New tools are going
some
way toward making our own hard drives as accessible as
what we see online.

But to make your PC truly search friendly, you have to
know how to optimise it for faster searching - and
which tools can get you to the information you
need the fastest.

Comprehensive and ubiquitous hard drive searching may
be the single best reason to upgrade to Vista if
you're considering the move. Vista puts a search
field almost everywhere - on the Start menu, in the
Windows Explorer task bar, and even in many
applications, including Media Player and Internet
Explorer.

Microsoft calls this feature Instant Search. What
makes it different from previous implementation of
search in Windows is that Instant Search gives you
results almost in real time.

Open the Start menu, for instance, type in the first
few letters of a program or file you're looking for,
and as you type a list of search results will
present you will names of programs and files that
Vista thinks you're seeking.

Windows XP and earlier versions do not have the
Instant Search feature found in Vista. Instead, XP
users must initiate a search by using the Search
option
in the Start menu or by pressing the Windows key and
tapping the latter F for Find. Searches take much
longer this way than they do in Vista, and you must
specify whether you're searching for file names or for
contents within one or more files.

But Microsoft has made available its Windows Desktop
Search (WDS) application (
www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/desktopsearch
) to users of Windows XP, and with it you can improve
substantially the speed and accuracy with which you
can find what you need.

Although thanks to Instant Search and WDS, Microsoft
has an edge in search for Windows users, Google and
Yahoo were in the desktop search game early - and
they won over lots of fans. Google's Desktop Search (
//desktop.google.com
) and Yahoo Desktop Search (
http://desktop.yahoo.com)
are still top-notch tools, and they're available for
more platforms, including Linux and the Mac.
Both tools are free.

Google's Desktop Search tool, in fact, gives users
what some feel are the best attributes of Vista -
integrated search and a sidebar with gadgets - without
the overhead imposed by Vista's Aero interface. What's
more, Google Desktop Search has that familiar Googlish
look and feel that has endeared millions
of Internet users.

But it's the Yahoo Desktop Search tool that arguably
has made the greatest strides in usability. The latest
iteration of Yahoo's Desktop Search tool shows
you search results as you type, much as Vista's
Instant Search does. Once indexed, searches generally
occur instantaneously - or so quickly that results
appear to be instantaneous.

The search tool goes farther than others to show you
the contents of files as they were created. Yahoo
Desktop Search includes viewers for more than 400
file types, so that you can see documents that might
be stored on your PC even if you no longer have the
applications that created those documents installed.

Copernic Inc., though, has been putting out products
that do desktop search longer than just about anyone
else. And the company's latest free product, Copernic
Desktop Search 2 differs from the browser-based
products of Yahoo and Google in that it comes as a
standalone application. But its search capabilities
are widely seen as some of the best around.

Gone are the days when an effective desktop search
tool can be seen as an option. The good news is that
there are plenty of free tools available to you,
no matter which operating system you use. Find the one
that's best for you, and get back the time you would
have spent searching for information you know
you've stored somewhere.

[AI] amazing similarities! but shocking news!

Dear Friends,
Sometime ago I recieved a mail from one of my friends

there he lost all his belongings and he is need of
some financial assistance. When I called his home to
confirm the message, I was surprised to find him at

Later, after a couple of days he called me and told
that similar mails have reached to all his friends
whose mail ids had been stored in his address book.
Moreover, he could not access his mail id because
someone has hacked his mail id and changed his pass

Official’s e-mail account hacked

financial help

NEW DELHI: The e-mail account of a Joint Secretary in
the Union
Agriculture Ministry has allegedly been hacked and
mails have been sent in his
name to his contacts seeking financial help.
According to an FIR lodged at the Parliament Street
police station, the
senior Government official has alleged that his
e-mail account that he
used for all official correspondence was hacked on
November 1 morning.
He further alleged that using his mail account,
someone posing as him
has been sending mails to his contact persons,
including top Government
and private company functionaries, seeking financial
help claiming
that he was in trouble somewhere abroad.
In response to those fake mails, the complainant
started getting calls
from his contacts enquiring about his well-being. The
complainant told
the police that he was unable to access his mail
account any more. On
the basis of the complaint, the Economic Offences
Wing of the Crime
Branch lodged the FIR at the Parliament Street police
station on Tuesday
 and initiated investigations.
While the police are trying to find out the nature of
the fraud and
identify the culprit, a senior police officer said
incidents of fake
e-mails seeking financial help on different pretexts
are on the rise. In
several cases it has been found that unsolicited
mails are sent as spam
using addresses of persons known to recipients. This
is done probably
using software that extract e-mail addresses from the
list of contacts of
an Internet user to send the malicious mails.
In a recent incident, a Faridabad-based non-government
organisation
found that its e-mail account had been “hacked” by
someone. It was
suspected to be a variant of “Nigerian Scam”, wherein
people get unsolicited mails offering handsome cuts in
a financial deal involving huge amounts of money.

Isn't it amazing similarity?? But shocking too!!!

Hi

Visit: http://www.songs.pk
Here you can download Hindi old songs, ghazals, pop, and Pakistani songs.
speaking from my experience, (you are free to disagree) Soundforge needs
lots and lots of ram and a very good processor, to do editing comfortably,
with just a bit of waiting for the assigned tasks to get finished. So if you
are planning to use foundforge only for recording, you may consider Audasity
as an alternative to soundforge. If however you have more than 1 GB of RAM,
then I think there's no problem in using soundforge, your only exception to
this is having Windows Vista on your PC, as it gobbles up more ram.
Sound forge scripts are already included in Jaws 8.0,. In case you are using
Jaws 8.0 and Jaws commands for sound forge are not working, open sound forge
(with Jaws already activated, of course), hold insert and press Q twice in
a quick succession and look for the application specific name. Now select
the exact application name as it is and deselect .exe at the end.
(remember you should unselect period, unselect E, unselect X, and unselect
E) then copy the text.
Open run and type or copy from here and paste: %allusersprofile%\application
data\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\8.0\SETTINGS\enu
Look for the following files and rename them to the text in the clipboard,
excluding their respective extentions:

Sound Forge.jcf
Sound Forge.jkm
Sound Forge.jsb
Sound Forge.jsd
Sound Forge.jss
(Didnt understand?), no problem! press F2 on Sound forge.jcf and press CTRL
+ V and type: .jcf and hit enter.
and do this to the other four files.
Now quit Jaws and start it again. the scripts should now be working with
sound forge.

With best regards
Syed Imran

Wikipedia's protected pages are closed to all editing and semi-protected pages
are open only to registered users. What does this bode for cyber democracy?

PHOTO: BHAGYA PRAKASH K.

SUCCESS STORYAlmost everyone with a Net connection refers to Wikipedia.

It must be hard being Jimmy Wales. After all, Wikipedia, the hugely successful
online encyclopaedia he founded just can't seem to please its critics. For
many months now, the website has been savagely attacked for lacking accuracy
and reliability, with more than a handful of entries sporting incorrect,
sometimes
even malicious misinformation.

The most famous case involved an entry on retired journalist John Seigenthaler,
which at one point claimed he was suspected of being involved in the
assassinations
of both John and Robert Kennedy. Wales, and the thousand or so volunteers who
help administer the site, responded in just the manner one would expect.
They went about setting formal rules in place. These included formal bans on
vandals defacing particular pages, along with protecting or semi-protecting
pages that have been vandalised or are in the middle of an edit war. While a
protected page is closed to all editing, semi-protected pages are open to
users who have registered with the site for at least four days. The objective,
explains Wales, is to go beyond the issue of just vandalism and look at
increasing the reliability of the website. Vandalism is a minor issue. Most
vandalism is corrected within moments. A bigger issue is thinking seriously
about editorial quality over time. We seek to be better than Britannica.
Predictably, this has opened another can of worms.

As anyone who follows popular blog circles or is a fan of Wikipedia has seen,
all and sundry have now gathered online to bemoan what they call the end of
one of the most interesting experiments in online democracy. Although Wales has
taken pains to clarify that the proposed rules seek to formalise protective
measures that are already in place and thus soften the controls,
techno-bloggers such as Nicholas Carr have made alarmist statements such as:
Wikipedia
is dead. Commenting on the formalisation of rules recently announced by
Wikipedia, he says on his blog: It (Wikipedia) died the way the pure products
of idealism always do, slowly and quietly and largely in secret, through the
corrosive process of compromise.

And he is not alone. Many others, including social scientists and media
critics, have been quick to condemn the move. Shuddhabrata Sengupta of the Sarai
programme of the Centre for Study of Developing Society, for instance, says the
institution of formal rules on the editing process will take away from
the democratic and open-ended process that Wikipedia is. This move will make
it no different from any run of the mill canonical encyclopaedia, he says.

Divided opinion

Despite the very vocal criticism (even reputed newspapers such as The New York
Times have criticised Wikipedia) that has been lobbed at the website, an
equally significant number of users and commentators feel Wikipedia is moving
in the right direction. Lawrence Liang, a researcher with Alternative Law
Forum, explains for instance that this move has to be looked at in the larger
context of authority of knowledge, which he says is the biggest problem for
any form of collaborative knowledge creation such as a Wiki. We need to be
able to rely on the content and know that it is trustworthy. Wikipedia has
moved from a hobbyist encyclopaedia to one of the first sources of references
on the Net. Paraphrasing the superhero movie Spiderman, he says: With great
power comes great responsibility.

However, many feel that with the emphasis on the reliability of information,
the focus on the process of knowledge creation is being lost. Explains
Shuddhabrata:
I think the interesting thing that Wikipedia encouraged in its community was
the active exercise of a critical and sceptical attitude towards any received
form of knowledge.

This, he says, acted as a check against the excesses of subjectivity that might
otherwise enter many entries. Besides, he adds, following the threads
and discussions and the Wiki history of a given entry was an education in
itself, and often laid bare the arguments and discussions around a given entry.

At the heart of the debate is the larger issue of democracy on the Internet.
Decisions such as Wikipedia's semi-protected pages, many feel, go against the
spirit of the Internet as the last medium for a truly free exchange of
information. Using the Internet, they contend, involves a certain degree of
autonomy
from the state, private corporations and strong interest groups, unlike
traditional media.

While Wales and his team say that this is the same ideal behind the processes
they have instituted, others feel that no such

[AI] Reflections on Becoming Blind

2007-11-09 Thread LSanjay

Reflections on Becoming Blind
 by Rebecca Atkinson

From the Editor: On July 17, 2007, the Guardian, one of the most
prestigious newspapers in the United Kingdom, published an essay by a woman
who is losing her sight from retinitis pigmentosa. In some ways her
assumptions and experience of blindness depart startlingly from the
American, or at least NFB, presumption that a trained blind person can
travel as rapidly and cross streets as efficiently as sighted pedestrians.
Yet by and large her experience and attitudes are healthy and articularly
expressed. This is what she says:

Rebecca Atkinson is going blind. An experimental therapy could offer
her the chance to see again, but would she take it?

Earlier this year doctors at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, began
the world's first gene therapy trials to treat twelve patients who have
Leber's congenital amaurosis, a condition that causes progressive sight
loss. Following successful animal trials (said to have restored the vision
of blind dogs so they could navigate a maze without difficulty), it is
hoped that the technique, which involves injecting working copies of faulty
genes directly into the retina, will prove equally effective when carried
out on humans. The results will not be made public for a year, but, if the
technique works, scientists hope it could eventually be used to treat a
wide range of inherited sight disorders affecting up to 30,000 visually
impaired people in the UK and potentially millions more worldwide.
The first viable treatment for blindness is twinkling on the horizon,
and, as one reader said on a national newspaper message board discussing
the trials, The possibility of being able to give improved sight to people
with visual impairments is a great development for the human race.
But what of the people we seek to repair? Those who have been born
blind and those, like me, who are losing or have lost their vision. Is this
what we have been waiting for? Is it a great development for the human
race, or a step forward in the eugenic quest for an über race, free of
imperfection and rid of the unease about disability that nestles quietly in
society's pocket?
For the past thirteen years I have been losing my sight, due to a
genetic and incurable condition called retinitis pigmentosa (RP). RP causes
the photoreceptive cells on the retina to die off, causing, in my case,
tunnel vision. I liken it to looking at the world down the middle of two
toilet rolls. My central vision remains intact, but where once was
peripheral vision, now float only my thoughts. In time these loo rolls will
shrink to knotholes and then pinholes and then possibly nothing.
In the early years after my diagnosis, blindness remained a repulsive
and terrifying concept. Every year I would visit the doctor, and he would
say the same thing--that I must live and plan my life with the certainty
that blindness was inevitable. And so, slowly over time, that is what I
learned to do.
But now the advent of gene therapy has pushed open a chink in the
door. Disabled people have long asked themselves the hypothetical would
you be cured if you could? question. Now for the first time there is a
chance, albeit very small, that maybe one day I might actually get my sight
back. Hurrah, you cry. I must be thrilled.
Actually I am a bit confused. It is easy to assume that all visually
impaired people will be hammering down the doors should gene therapy prove
successful. But to say this is to assume that a blind life is lesser and
that all blind people really want to be sighted. They don't.
The first blind man I ever met, who also happened to be my boss at
the time, is one of them. I recently asked him if he would have gene
therapy if he could. No, came his reply. Because, he tells me, regaining
sight is more than just seeing again. There are issues of identity and
culture at stake too. As the blind-from-birth son of blind parents, I am,
in part of my soul, defined by my blindness, he explains. It directly
equates to ethnic or racial origin. If you give a black person the choice
to be white, there may well be significant advantages in such a deal: more
access to better jobs; freedom from the shackles of ignorant prejudice; in
short, a step closer to equality. But I'd bet most would turn the offer
down flat.
But what if, unlike my old boss, you haven't always been blind? What
if, like me, you grew up with full vision and have seen all the cliché-
ridden things that those born totally blind are pitied for never having
seen--the sunset, your own reflection, the look in your lover's eyes. What
if your soul is sighted, and then you go blind? You will cry and wonder
why. You will hope and pray. You will wish it would all go away. But the
longer your

A Touching Sight

Researchers have developed two technologies which
could help the visually impaired ‘see’ electronic
images just like ‘reading’ with braille...

Computer World

Researchers Oliver Slattery (left) and John Roberts
(right) use the tactile graphic display device to
depict the NIST logo. Their new systems translate
electronic images into braille-like patterns, enabling
the visually impaired to ‘see’ the images

Art and images enrich our lives, be it to illustrate
an example or to appease our aesthetic side. But the
lives of the visually impaired are devoid of this
aspect. Seeking to help those with optic defects,
computer scientists and engineers in the US have
developed technologies that help the blind get a
‘feel’
of the image.

Researchers John Roberts and Oliver Slattery of the
National Institute of Standards and Technology’s
(NIST) Information Technology Laboratory have created
two tactile graphic displays that bring electronic
images to the blind and visually impaired in the same
way that braille makes words readable.

The inspiration for both tactile graphic displays came
from a “bed of nails” toy.

“Watching the pins in the toy depress under fingers
and then return to their original state got us
thinking about how the principle could be applied to
electronic signals,” said researcher John Roberts.

A HELPING HAND

The first graphic display technology, introduced as a
prototype in 2002, conveys scanned illustrations, map
outlines or other graphical images to the fingertips,
and can automatically translate images displayed on
Web pages or in electronic books.

“It uses refreshable tactile graphic display
technology, allowing a person to feel a succession of
images on a reusable surface,” said the researchers.

The machine uses about 3,600 small pins – known as
actuator points – that can be raised in any pattern.
They can then be locked into place to hold the
pattern for ‘reading’ by placing one’s hand on it,
similar to the braille system.

The actuator points then can be withdrawn and reset in
a new pattern, allowing the tactile reading to
continue through a variety of images.

Each image is sent electronically to the device, which
uses software to determine how to create a tactile
display that matches the image.

AT YOUR FINGERTIPS

An array of about 100 small, very closely spaced
actuator points set against a user’s fingertip is the
key to the second tactile graphic display technology.

This device gives the user more direct control, the
researchers said.

To “view” a computer graphic with this technology, a
blind or visually impaired person moves one’s
device-tipped finger across a surface like a computer
mouse to scan an image into the system’s memory.

The computer sends a signal to the display device and
moves the actuators against the skin to “translate”
the pattern, replicating the sensation of the
finger moving over it.

US-based ELIA Life Technology Inc recently licensed
for commercialisation both the tactile graphic display
device and fingertip graphic reader developed
by NIST researchers. However, the company released no
details on when the product would be available.

In the future, the researchers say the technology
could possibly be used to make fingertip-based tactile
graphics ractical for virtual reality systems,
or to give a detailed sense of touch to robotic
control and space suit gloves.
