[AI] 1 year PG Dip. in Media Disability Communication
Post Graduate Diploma in Media Disability Communication Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped, (AYJNIHH) Mumbai, has envisaged a long term training for the Media and Communication professionals in Media Disability Communication in collaboration with University of Mumbai. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed between AYJNIHH and University of Mumbai at 10.00am, on 1st of August'09 at a function organized in Management Council Room of Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan, University of Mumbai, Vidyanagari, Mumbai-98. The MoU was signed in the presence of Vice Chancellor, Dr. Vijay Khole, Dr. V.N. Magare, Director Board of College and University Development, Prin.K.Venkataramani, Registrar from University of Mumbai and Prof. R.Rangasayee, Director, AYJNIHH-Mumbai were present. Speaking at the function, R.Rangasayee, Director, AYJNIHH-Mumbai highlighted the significance of the training Globally and Locally. To implement the guidelines of the United Nations Convention, on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) vide article 8 on 'awareness raising', article 9 on 'accessibility' and article 21 on 'access to information', this is the first organized effort to create a cadre of Media Professionals to address disability issues. This training program will also meet the needs of section IV of the Persons with Disabilities Act 1995 and the National Policy on Persons Disabilities 2006 section 11.A and 51.XI that emphasize on raising awareness, dissemination of information and accessibility. Dr. V.N. Magare expressed his appreciation and thanked ecstatically both AYJNIHH and the Department of Communication and Journalism of Mumbai University, for their efforts in taking initiative in starting this course, which is a good service to humanity. This is the first of its kind of effort made in this direction by the University, he said. This one year Post Graduate Diploma course will be conducted in the academic year 2009-10, at AYJNIHH-Mumbai in collaboration with Department of Communication and Journalism, University of Mumbai. The high- tech juggernaut is looking to set up a recruiting relationship with the technical training departments of the school as part of an ongoing push to hire more disabled employees. Sounds like a nice press release. But this initiative is hardly a token effort. In fact, Cisco is not only a NASDAQ bellwether but also a leader in recruiting and employing the disabled. The San Jose (Calif.)-based company, which makes the computer routers that direct traffic on the Internet, also recruits disabled employees through disability organisations, including regional groups such as Project Hired, TransAccess, Sensory Access, and national groups such as the National Disability Business Council. In fact, the company recently took the extra step of developing and implementing its own curriculum for teaching disability etiquette and outreach techniques to Cisco recruiters. The aim was to increase their ability to communicate effectively and comfortably with disabled potential hires. Bottomline? Cisco gets it when it comes to working with the disabled. Customer Advantage Cisco's logic here is simple. Employees with disabilities are good for business. They add diversity to a workforce, something that Cisco CEO John Chambers has long trumpeted as a factor in improved productivity and creativity. Furthermore, some of the company's customers have disabled employees. So acclimating Cisco's workers to professional contact with disabled workers inside the company has the added benefit of enabling them to work productively with Cisco clients. ''We have employees with disabilities, and we have customers with disabilities whose information needs must be met. As a result, we do our best to accommodate their communications needs, says Nancy Cruz, who oversees Cisco's disability policies and recruiting efforts. That's a nice sound bite. But the truth is, Cisco really practises what it preaches. I spoke to dozens of people and could not find anyone who had bad things to say about the company with regard to its efforts to both employ and accommodate disabled workers. Here are some examples of how Cisco puts its money where its mouth is. It has taken pains to keep its website completely accessible, a rarity in the tech field, where By zantine sites often frustrate screen-reading software. And it is moving toward even further accessibility by integrating audio and video files into the recruiting portion of Cisco.com. We do not use frames on our Web pages, which are what makes it difficult for someone using screen-reader technology to translate, says Cruz. Proactive Approach The company also maintains a pool of TDD (text teletype) devices for use on an on-call basis by its deaf and hearing-impaired employees. That's a solid proactive step to ensure that these employees can work in any part of the company and still find a key communications tool at their fingertips. These extra efforts do make a difference. Just ask Lee Mudrock. A hearing-impaired electrical engineer at Cisco, Mudrock claims the company provides him with everything he needs, including a TDD and other assistive-tech tools. Having been here several years, I know Cisco is really interested in my abilities. I have everything I need for my job, he says. Mudrock's view is backed up by former Cisco employees with disabilities. Take Cheryl Mitchler, who has cerebral palsy with a severe speech impediment. People with this condition often have tremendous difficulty obtaining work due to the dual impairments to their speech and mobility. She worked at Cisco from 1997 through 1999 as a systems engineer and left the company to pursue a PhD in electrical engineering at the prestigious University of California, Los Angeles. My supervisors bought me all the technology I needed and never asked me why. I felt like a very valued employee, says Mitchler, who has no regrets from her Cisco years.. Job-placement agencies for the disabled that work with Cisco say the company has a similarly proactive approach to recruiting. Unlike other tech businesses, Cisco regularly comes to these agencies in search of workers. Usually it's the other way around, with the agencies spending most of their time beating the bush for potential employers, says Karen Kuczler, a counselor at Santa Clara, Calif, nonprofit Project Hired. They are unable to move their body below the neck. I see their distress every day. Now when doctors too have lost hope, I want they should die. Death would be the ultimate solution for their suffering, farmer Jeet Narayan of Bashi village of Mirzapur district, some 300 km from Lucknow, has said in his letter to Patil. My sons are in utter discomfort. I cannot see their helplessness any more. So, we have written to the president that our sons be killed through euthanasia, Narayan's wife Prabhavati said over telephone. Narayan has told his neighbours that he has sold of all his valuables to meet the medical expenses of his sons. Our financial resources have been exhausted. I even sold off the parental land. Moreover, I owe nearly Rs 2 lakh to moneylenders, he said. Prabhavati said muscular dystrophy afflicted her sons when they were five years old. She identified them as Durgesh, 16, Sarvesh, 14, Brijesh, 11, and Suresh, 10. All four were normal children until then. The couple now fears their four-year-old daughter may become disabled when she turns five. Till now our daughter is doing fine but we are quite worried about her. One is Nero, but, it is little bit tedious. another one is real players you have to convert the same from tools menu. and the third one is Sound Switch converter which is very much user friendly. Hi Vamshi, Muscular distrophy is not just a disability, it is a terminal and degenerative condition which gradually deteriorates until the patient finally dies. People with this condition suffer a great deal as it worsens. It can in no way be compared with blindness, deafness or other such disabilities. While considering euthenasia in case of normal disabilities should be categorized as outright criminal, terminally ill patients should be given the right to decide about their own lives and should be allowed to die if they wish to. Hello Subramani, You could try to restore the phone to the factory settings and then do a fresh installation. Press *#7370# to do so. You will have to enter the pin code. the default code is 12345 unless you changed it before. Make sure you change the date before installing the software. temporily you can get a demo license code for both the softwares and it should provide you enough time to buy the license. Please note that the above restoration process will clean-up the phone memory and henceforth you should back-up your contacts and other files saved on the phone. Your memory card will not be affected.
