[AI] Wireless USB Port Hub

2012-03-10 Thread SYED IMRAN
Hi

I'm looking for a gadget that can make my USB devices go wifi without the
hastles of lengthy cables. I know about Iomega iConnect but not too sure if
it can help me in this case. Now for instance, when I place my PC in my room
in 2nd floor and the scanner in the hall in 1st floor, I should be able to
connect my scanner to this hub and the USB receiver to my PC and then use a
wireless keyboard and wireless headphone to do scanning.

Thanks

Syed

Re: [AI] data card review needed.

2012-03-10 Thread Pranay Gadodia
Hi Gufran,
I cannot say for sure, but the google chrome in the data card could only be
its setup for installation. Even if it is a portable version (do not know if
it exists), you should be able to still define the default browser of your
choice in your system.

The other thing is that if you are really keen on using the sms and calling
function from the data card, check the accessibility of the user interface
for the purpose given by micromax, if you depend only on your screen reader.
I have a Beetel data card, the software of which is not accessible. Though
for connecting to internet, I created a dial-up connection using windows
built-in feature.

thanks,
Pranay.

Dear Friend,

Kindly inform us which version of Talks you are using.

In the latest Talks version, version 5.3, there is an option for announcing
progress bar updates. This option allows the user to set the frequency at
which Talks will announce progress updates. For example, every 5 seconds.

A similar option also existed in previous versions of Talks but am not sure
in which version this option was first introduced.

Dear Friends,

When I used FS Reader to listen to some Daisy audio files, I knew how useful
they are. It has really some nice features.

My question is: can we convert simple MP3 audio files into Daisy files? If yes,
How? If we can do so, we can avail its interesting features.

With best regards.

[AI] Fwd: Phone For Blind Uses Braille

Hi all,

Phone For Blind Uses Braille
By ELLSON A. QUISMORIO
March 10, 2012, 4:06am
MANILA, Philippines - Girly Perando, Janiena Roxanne Dirain and
Kristine Emy Matabang call it their "baby." But it could very well be
the most valuable companion a blind person could ever have.

The three computer engineering students have come with a "Braille Cell
Phone" for the blind with a dedicated "Wearable Obstacle Detection
System."

Last month, the device won for the three Mapua Institute of Technology
students the grand prize in the 8th Smart Wireless Engineering
Education Program (SWEEP) Innovations and Excellence Awards.

The specialized mobile phone allows the user to receive and "read"
text messages via the centuries-old Braille system in the form of a
small rectangle containing two columns of three dots each. Placed on
top of this rectangle is a traditional keypad.

"The phone vibrates when it receives a text message. The message can
be read (by character) with the dots, which raise automatically,"
explained Girly, 21.

Incoming and outgoing calls are facilitated through a headset. Like a
normal mobile phone, the Braille phone also uses a subscriber identity
module (SIM) card and is rechargeable.

The main console is quite bulky and must be worn over the shoulder
through a sling bag. But then, it is more than just a communication
device.

Hardwired to the console is a four-inch-long sensor, which by design
is attached to a walking stick-a necessity for blind or
visually-impaired individuals.

"If the sensor detects that there is something in front of the person,
or is about to bump into something (like a wall), the phone vibrates
and gives off a buzzing sound," said Janiena, 21, as she waved her
hand in demonstration.

The sensor, the students said, can detect an object as far as five meters away.

The overall concept and design earned the all-female group P500,000 in
cash as top prize in the competition. Twenty-year-old Kristine said
building the phone was not easy. "We took it one step at a time. We
tried to finish one phase before moving on to the next," she said.

But more than cash prizes and accolade, the three want their "baby" to
realize its full potential to be a useful tool for the blind.

Ayra Panganiban, the group's adviser, recalled her initial reaction
upon hearing about the Braille phone. "When I saw that their target
the visually-impaired, and that this device would end up helping a lot
of these people, I told them to go for it," she said.

Panganiban said the challenge now is to design and build a more
compact Braille phone, with wireless connectivity to the walking stick
sensor. Voice recognition would also be useful feature.

Dr. Felicito Caluyo, the dean of Computer Engineering in Mapua, said
the school is now moving forward with the students' achievement with
the Braille phone.

"We're now in the process of looking for additional investors so we
may be able to produce more Braille phones to be donated to
beneficiaries," Caluyo said. He noted that some foreign investors,
particularly from Canada, have expressed interest.

Apparently, some blind or visually-impaired individuals who sampled
the Braille phone during its testing phase can hardly wait to get one
of their own.

"They asked us if the phone was out in the market already. They seemed
to like it. The feedback was good," Girly said.

My querry is that, when reading a message in outlook Express, after opening

Is there anyway that we can make JAWS announce the CC field after the From

Any ideas? much appreciated.

Is there anyway that we can make JAWS announce the CC field after the From
field in the message? This will help me decide to reply to the sender or
reply to all in the message faster.

Any ideas? much appreciated.

Dear Friend,

If your friend has a difficulty in understanding what you are saying
about Maths then call him/her to your home and teach the person how
the style of the exam is and what is Log table in Mathematics.
This will be a better idea.

Hi Maitreya,
if the exam needs log tables, often the examining authority will provide
the tables and the candidate will not be allowed to take his/her own. if
you want to work on it, you just read and understand the procedure to
find

values from the table and instruct accordingly your scribe in the exam.
if

you need any specific information or doubt, write back. for your regular
working on log, you can use log function in windows calculator. many
scientific calculators have log key on them. I don't know about talking
calculators.

Dear Maitreya,

With my limited knowledge I am trying to answer this query.

If you want to use log tables during an examination, the writer can
carry

a
printed log table as is allowed in case of sighted people as well.

I think that the rules allow a person to carry a Log table book and it
has
nothing to do with the Vision Impairement.

Re: [AI] banking and Indemnity.

2012-03-10 Thread zoher

Friends,

When I opened my showroom 1 year back, I required saving and current
account. For this I approached to h d f c. bank. But they were not ready to
provide me the cheque book and a t m card, as both of them were necessary
for me to run the business. The manager told me that as you are unable to
read the document you will be treated as illiterate. Then I gave the copy of
guide line of r b I, and then they agreed to provide me all the facilities.
But they wanted me to sign the undertaking which approximate summary was, I
zoher the visually impaired customer hold the sole responsibility of a t m
card. And the bank manager has readout the terms and condition in front of
the witness in I have made understood the all the terms by my escort. I
asked him why to sign this? He replied "there are no charges for a t m card
now sign" then I asked my escort to read the terms, then the manager replied
this is the reason to make you sign the undertaking, so tomorrow you cannot
say that the manager misguided me. I bought his point and agreed to sign.
But I drown his attention to the word "the escort has made me understood all
the terms". I told him I myself mature enough to understand all this terms I
need not be made understand by someone. Then he agreed to correct the claws.
And as far as the responsibility of a t m is concerned then not only in our
case has every one carried the responsibility of there a t m card. But from
that day till today I have been not refused for any facilities. No cheques
were rejected on signature bases I have also provided the normal net
banking facilities including third party transfers. And the staff of the
branch is also cooperative...

Firstly, I would like to draw your attention on use of unacceptable words
in the subject line. You are hereby warned.

I have therefore modified it.

I can understand such incidents do trigger outburst. However, it is
necessary to handle affairs in a dignified manner.

You can ask them to put their requirements in writing. This way, you can
build up documentation and there after question their discrimination.

Subject: [AI] banking and their Bloody Indemnity.

Hello fokes,

I'd like to share y'all a surprising news. and that is, State Bank of
Hyderabad has decided to give me Internet banking without any
restrictions.

All of a sudden, I got a phone call telling that "you are provided
unrestricted Internet banking. But you have to fill in the indemnity with
two witnesses.

before coming to a conclusion, I just thought of asking y'all whether that
indemnity has to be submitted for obtaining Internet Banking? Whether we
have to give two witnesses in it?

Since I have my doubts, I haven't accepted that yet. So, I await for your
suggestions.

With Kind Regards,

Dinesh.
