Set Basic HTML as Default Gmail View

If you use Gmail and you'd like a simplified interface that doesn't
use AJAX, loads fast and works well in most browsers, try the basic
HTML view. Gmail links to this version at the bottom of the page, but
you can also access it if you go to http://mail.google.com/mail/h/.

Re: [AI] regarding basic html feature of gmail

2012-12-02 Thread rijoy v
Ok. Before signing out search for the link "set basic html as default
view" and press enter.
Now you can normally sign in to use gmail in basic html.
Try again with the below link.
https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=html&zy=h

[AI] Daniel kish - echolocation

2012-12-02 Thread Ruchi Patil
Dear friends,

Daniel kish uses echolocation to navigate new locations. It is a technique in
which mouth clicks are made and the echoes are heard back to understand how far
an object is, and what kind it is. He has also led blind teenagers hiking and
mountain biking through the wilderness.

He is totally blind, having lost both his eyes to retinal cancer by the age of
13 months.

A Tamil movie thandavam is based on Daniel and actor Vikram has dedicated it to
his source of inspiration.

We do have lots of videos of Daniel kish on YouTube.

It seems like a great technique and should be a part of our orientation and
mobility training.

Warm regards,
Ruchi

Re: [AI] Page number announcement

Although bookmarks are very much available in Microsoft Word, I'd rather
prefer you to take the advantage of the JAWS place markers if using JAWS 12
and above. The only disadvantage of this is that you can put only one place
marker in one file. In fact, the only purpose of this one to identify the
last read position.
To place the marker, simply press control+winKey+K. And, to identify the
same, once you open the file, simply hit WinKey+K and you'll be landing up
the same position. It is much more handy than the regular bookmark feature.

Hello Friends,
I have a word file having hundreds of pages. After giving read command

automatically. But in this case I didn't understand how many pages I have
read out. I want jaws to say page number while reading. How to do it? I also

opening it later. How to do this? I know the book mark function but I want

Hello Friends,
I have a word file having hundreds of pages. After giving read command
(insert + down arrow) jaws starts reading the document page by page
automatically. But in this case I didn't understand how many pages I have
read out. I want jaws to say page number while reading. How to do it? I
also
want to land on the page last read at the time of closing the document
after

opening it later. How to do this? I know the book mark function but I want
to do it automatically by setting. Thank you.

Although bookmarks are very much available in Microsoft Word, I'd rather
prefer you to take the advantage of the JAWS place markers if using JAWS
12
and above. The only disadvantage of this is that you can put only one
place

marker in one file. In fact, the only purpose of this one to identify the
last read position.
To place the marker, simply press control+winKey+K. And, to identify the
same, once you open the file, simply hit WinKey+K and you'll be landing
up
the same position. It is much more handy than the regular bookmark
feature.

In order to be able to know the page numbers automatically while applying
say all command, make sure in the JAWS verbosity setting, "page, section
and

multiple columns break" is checked.

Checking the status bar by Insert+PageDown gives the current page numbre,

Although bookmarks are very much available in Microsoft Word, I'd
rather
prefer you to take the advantage of the JAWS place markers if using
JAWS

12
and above. The only disadvantage of this is that you can put only one
place
marker in one file. In fact, the only purpose of this one to identify
the
last read position.
To place the marker, simply press control+winKey+K. And, to identify
the

same, once you open the file, simply hit WinKey+K and you'll be landing
up
the same position. It is much more handy than the regular bookmark
feature.

Hello Friends,
I have a word file having hundreds of pages. After giving read command
(insert + down arrow) jaws starts reading the document page by page
automatically. But in this case I didn't understand how many pages I
have
read out. I want jaws to say page number while reading. How to do it? I
also
want to land on the page last read at the time of closing the document
after
opening it later. How to do this? I know the book mark function but I
want
to do it automatically by setting. Thank you.

[AI] Theme International Day of Persons with disabilities

2012-12-02 Thread Rohit Trivedi

Theme: Removing barriers to create an inclusive and accessible society for
all

Background

Over one billion people, or approximately 15 per cent of the world's
population, live with some form of disability.

Persons with disabilities, "the world's largest minority", often face
barriers to participation in all aspects of society. Barriers can take a
variety of forms, including those relating to the physical environment or to
information and communications technology (ICT), or those resulting from
legislation or policy, or from societal attitudes or discrimination. The
result is that persons with disabilities do not have equal access to society
or services, including education, employment, health care, transportation,
political participation or justice.

Evidence and experience shows that when barriers to their inclusion are
removed and persons with disabilities are empowered to participate fully in
societal life, their entire community benefits. Barriers faced by persons
with disabilities are, therefore, a detriment to society as a whole, and
accessibility is necessary to achieve progress and development for all.

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) recognizes
that the existence of barriers constitutes a central component of
disability. Under the Convention, disability is an evolving concept that
"results from the interaction between persons with impairments and
attitudinal and environmental barriers that hinder their full and effective
participation in society on an equal basis with others."

Accessibility and inclusion of persons with disabilities are fundamental
rights recognized by the CRPD and are not only objectives, but also
pre-requisites for the enjoyment of other rights. The CRPD (Article 9,
accessibility) seeks to enable persons with disabilities to live
independently and participate fully in all aspects of life and development.
It calls upon States Parties to take appropriate measures to ensure that
persons with disabilities have access to all aspects of society, on an equal
basis with others, as well as to identify and eliminate obstacles and
barriers to accessibility.

In spite of this, in many parts of the world today, lack of awareness and
understanding of accessibility as a cross-cutting development issue remains
an obstacle to the achievement of progress and development through the
Millennium Development Goals, as well as other internationally agreed
outcomes for all.

The commemoration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities in 2012
provides an opportunity to address this exclusion by focusing on promoting
accessibility and removing all types of barriers in society.

Hi friends,
I know this mail may be off the scope of the list and I apologize for

Best regards and sorry again,

Re: [AI] Page number announcement

2012-12-02 Thread Sanchit Katiyar
dear friend,

i don't know how to do this when JAWS will say page numbers while
reading. but I know how to check page Number while reading. if you
want to know on which page are you? press ault plus delete to know the
page number. in this case, if you give the command of reading (insert
plus down airow) JAWS will start reading where you left.

as far as your second question is concerned, I don't think that there
is any setting which allows you to reading from where you left last
time after closing the document.

regards,

sanchit Katiyar.
