Re: [AI] Improving Meru Cab Accessibility For Blind: Suggestions Invited.

2012-12-06 Thread Ekinath Khedekar
SMS with all details sounds the best way out for both the parties.
One of the normal cabs that i traveled had a beaping system after 100
meters i would have liked it to be at every k.

Meter reading is the biggest issue for me. Even that can be solved by
receiving sms when we start the travel and one more sms at the end of
it.

And i am glad we are not asking for concessions or special
availability for VIs here. Salute

Mainstream solutions
Also a suggestion or i can join you Amar. We should speak to Ola, Tab
and other cab services too.

Time required till Sunday, you know why :)

Keep it up

Re: [AI] Proud of my best friend and buddy, Prateek Agarwal! (TOI Article)

2012-12-06 Thread Chetan Sharma
Hello Varghese,
Here is the story:
Lack of vision no hurdle for this entrepreneur

Shoeb Khan TNN

Jaipur: The inability to see did not deter 20-year-old Prateek Agarwal
from pursuing his childhood dream of opening his own enterprise.
Agarwal, who pursued computer science engineering,is now the CEO of an
IT firm Deadel Softwares floated by him in 2010.Currently,he is
employing 28 people and has offices in Jaipur and Bangalore besides
presence in UK and the US.
Agarwal was born in a traditional business family.I learnt about
business models by hearing family conversations, he said on the
sidelines of a blood donation camp organized at the Press Club a few
days ago.
A product of St Michael School,Subhash Chowk,Agarwal had a keen
interest in mathematics.Despite a shortage of books in Braille,he
managed to score better marks in his senior secondary exams than his
batch mates. His enthusiasm and never-give-up attitude helped him trump
all odds. After Class 12 exams,he appeared for entrance tests at
various engineering colleges but was refused admission on the grounds
of disability.
In the end,NIIT University,Neemrana came to his rescue and admitted
him in the computer science branch of engineering. In his final
year, like other class mates,he too was upbeat about
placements. However,he got a rude shock when he had to face prevailing
prejudices in the corporate sector against the disabled.
After working hard on his application and getting internship
experience at reputed firms, two Forbes 500 companies refused him
job,simply because he was blind.
Stung by the refusal,Agarwal decided to start his own software company
in Jaipur. He worked tirelessly for days meeting potential clients. The
hard work paid off and he started getting assignments.
This year he went to UK on an invitation from his client to share his
success story with other visually impaired.

Re: [AI] Cheques with thumb impression

2012-12-06 Thread mamta
So sir, Every time you get a new check book do you take it to the manager to
sign all the cheques?
does he do it with out any questions or problems?

As I feel that We may not be able to issue checques every time by coming to
the bank and get one cheque signed at a time.

your any views and suggestions are awaited.

Is there any circular which says that once we get a check Book we can get it
attested or signed by the manager so that our cheques are not dishonored?

I mean any RBI Circular? if yes do please attach it for me.

Thanks a lot.

I have been using cheques issued to the third party. However they have to be
attested by the manager of the bank branch. No cheques issued by me have
been dishonoured so far.

[AI] accessibility in Spiritual Live - Koran for the Blind in Bangalore (for Muslims)

2012-12-06 Thread Syed Imran
Hi all

Firstly, my heartiest greeting and acknowledgement to the people of all the
faiths and morality here. It feels great to think of accessibility solutions
that have been, or yet to be made available in our spiritual lives for the
blind. My cheerful wave to the folks involved in these activities.

On a quick note just wanted to pass on the news that willing blind folks in
Bangalore are welcome to join us in learning to read the Koran in Braille.
Feel free to chuck me an email and we'll take it further from there. Please
note, there's no force here, and I do not get any sort of benefit by making
you join us, other than your friendly presence if anything.

Take care

2012-12-06 Thread Dr. R.K Sarin
Hi Vikas, to me, whether one is supporter of the inclusion or not, fact
remains that in the name of inclusion, couple of elites are included and
rest remained excluded. So far the policies of Delhi Universiity are
concerned, the moment we foregrant everything said and done and keep
ourselves away from the common masses, we will get similar responses.
Despite all laws, no right is given willfully. I know the days when for all
petty things, we have to use mass pressure tactics and now we feel our
decisions are madde in the court room either on the mercy of the judges who
always keep on their stands or on the availability of the supportive lawyer.
Nothing can be achieved by cutting adrift from the mass.

My heart felt appreciation for Avinash for grasping the point. An
additional proof of all that I had written this morning in my original
response is that finally the University authority have refused to give
us the permission to hold the meeting of disabled students and
teachers in room No. 22, Arts Faculty, University of Delhi, where we
wanted to meet on 8th December. I think this is high time for the
community to respond. I have ampul reasons to believe that in the name
of "inclusion" state in India is making a departure from the discourse
of equality; and that this is a dangerous turn. (However, I would
request the readers not to confuse this statement to imply that I am
against inclusion.)
In solidarity.

dear all,

when I share any folder with my friends they have to download each
file of a folder separately. is there any way that they can download a
whole folder in once?

for example, yesterday I shared one dazy book with my friend and it
had 84 files in it so she had to download all files separately. it is
very tough to download too many files.

i have another quary also. tell me how to send a link of a folder, as
someone hit the link downloading will start itself. because so many
people on access india sent me a link as I hit on that link
downloading was started itself.

thanks and regards,

Not monitored the threat, but as far as SBI is concerned, they refuse
from accepting the cheques with thumb impression for third parties,
due to lack of technology of verifying the thumb impression of the
customers. Principally you can obtain a cheque book, but ultimately
where you have to make a payment, then demand draft is the only
option.

For utility payments, at least my branch asks me to put thumb
impression in front of them, then somewhere they write verified and
send the cheque to clearing house. Lets hope that biometrics come in
place to tackle this problem soon!

Solution is to have thumb impression attested by bank official on all
cheques at the time of issuance of chequebook itself so that the cheque is
honored later as the thumb impression is already attested.
The idea was given by CCPD way back in 2005 judgment, but seems to have
fallen by the wayside. Biometrics was to have been adopted long ago, but
is in the pipeline...

Hi all,
We would like to know from those of us who use thumb impression on their
cheques if they have to do anything different while taking new cheque
books

or issuing cheques. Also if you know the procedure your bank follows to
approve your cheques issued to third parties, both locally & outstation.

Banks have higher resistance to give cheque book to a blind person who do
not sign but use thumb impression. Your solutions would help us to pass
them

on to our callers who face such situation and also sensitise banks.

Any replies on the matter would be appreciated. Please specify your bank
and
branch as well. You may write back on or off the list as you may think
fit.

follows
to approve your cheques issued to third parties, both locally &
outstation.

Banks have higher resistance to give cheque book to a blind person who
do
not sign but use thumb impression. Your solutions would help us to pass
them on to our callers who face such situation and also sensitise banks.

Any replies on the matter would be appreciated. Please specify your bank
and branch as well. You may write back on or off the list as you may
think
fit.

[AI] Meaning of DU Anouncements: Need for Solidarity and Action

2012-12-06 Thread Vikas Gupta

Re: [AI] Experience of opening a bank a/c in mumbai

2012-12-06 Thread Ravindra Jadhav
yes I agreed that most of the private banks are giving the all
facilities to v.i. Persons and they talk politely with there customers
also.
Really this is my personal experience.
But, nationalize banks are not doing so.
They are always denying the v. I. Persons.
I always hate the nationalize banks.
If you want to see the real fact then come with me and see what is
happen with me.
Still I am not getting ATm.
I opened my two accounts in two banks one is kanera and another is beroda bank.
I got chequebook from both banks.
When I talked about the ATm they asked me silly questions.
But Abuday co-operative bank is ready to give the all facilities.
By the way I keep the patience and I hope in future I will get the ATM
from both banks.
Friends this is my view which I keep front of you.
I don't know it is out of track or not.
But please thro some light on it because this is not only my problem
but others also.
With regards
Ravi

Re: [AI] Listen guys: DU announces foreign trip for students withdisabilities

2012-12-06 Thread avinash shahi
Thank you Vikas sir for enlightening responses.

Struggle waged by DU Disabled students and teachers has compeled
Administration to facilitate conducive atmosphere for studying to some
extent.
And undoubtedly, DU disabled community deserves kudos.
Further, I just wish to share, My initial giggling was not an
affirmation of VC's announcement.
But thought to post this interesting news with added sensation
Afterall, we all should know what the almighty VC says on issues
regarding our needs and aspirations.
These press archives can be very instrumental for further reminder to
VC for his paid earned accolades.
And via this mail-threads, we also got to know, what student and
teacher fraternity is doing to get our deserved due.

Hi,
While others could continue to write in their experience of using cheque book
with thumb impression, we need some clarifications from those who responded.

Manish Panicker: Has your branch of PNB put any more restriction or adopted any
additional procedure for issuing you cheque book and honouring your cheques?
Deepak Pithva: are you following any different rules/procedure compared to
someone using signature in using cheque book with your thumb impression?
Rajesh Parakh: Did you mean that you have to sign as well as put your thumb
impression on your cheques and chequebook requisition?
Rajesh Asudani and others: Hasn't any bank begun using biometric systems to
verify thumb impression on cheques?

Also please confirm if you issue cheques with only your thumb impressions, or
there is a joint account holder also signing them.

Thanks for sharing your experiences,

This can be made accessible using aria-live and there would not be need to look
for alternate control.

You can experience this implimentation on search.yahoo.com

Subject: [AI] Improving Meru Cab Accessibility For Blind: Suggestions Invited.

Hi All,

I am in touch with Meru officials, with a view of making the cab
services accessible for blind. As of now, I am not promising anything
in this direction, as it not only depends on what we want, but also
depends on what resources the company can utilize for that, and what
efforts it takes for them to implement the same. However, the initial
response of the officer was positive and that makes me drop an email
to the list as a quick response to their reaction, for suggestions on
what kind of accessibility we are looking for, and how it can be
implemented.

Before I put forward my views, in order to bring everyone on the same
level, it is important to mention that by accessibility I do not mean
to tackle the situation of the maximized availability of cabs on
account of blindness, and any such other thing. I am focusing on the
making the inside services of cabs accessible to us.

The problem which I have is that we aren't able to read the meters
while travelling, and nor are we able to gather the information at the
time the driver is swiping our card for payment. Similarly, the final
invoice also is inaccessible to us, because of which we are not able
to figure out the total distance travelled, final amount charged, etc.
This leads us to be dependent on the driver. Trusting someone is not a
problem, but if you have a solution which enables to do things
yourself, then why not.

What are your suggestions along with the way of implementation
(keeping indian conditions and minimal resources) in mind?

How far the audio prompts (on demand) in these areas is a good solution?

Are the solutions proposed costly to implement?

Feel free to consider all angles. I am not in a position of having a
telephonic chat before 9th of December (Sunday), so an email will be
highly appreciated.

Thanks,
--
Amar Jain.

I use Meru cabs very often. One small improvement that I would like is
addition to their website access.
The cab booking process on the website generally works with screen reader
but there is one thing which needs to be done with the mouse and sighted
assistance.
While entering the destination, it prompts places similar to the one typed
by you in the edit box. One needs to accept one of the given suggestion, the
typed text is not accepted by the system.
The suggestions which appear in the drop down list are not readable with
screen reader.
Use of some other alternate control here would make it accessible.

I have noticed that all these cabs have a tablet like computer on their
systems which it seems is capable of some programming.
For example when the speed of the car goes beyond 80 Kmph, an audio prompt
is played to warn about over speeding.

Similarly, they could set up announcement of the meter reading at some
intervals and at the end of the journey.
And in the thank you SMS that they send after the journey they could include
invoice details e.g. kilometre travelled, rate, fare etc.

Thanks,
Prashant

Subject: [AI] Cheques with thumb impression

Hi all,
We would like to know from those of us who use thumb impression on their
cheques if they have to do anything different while taking new cheque
books or issuing cheques. Also if you know the procedure your bank follows
to approve your cheques issued to third parties, both locally &
outstation.

Banks have higher resistance to give cheque book to a blind person who do
not sign but use thumb impression. Your solutions would help us to pass
them on to our callers who face such situation and also sensitise banks.

Any replies on the matter would be appreciated. Please specify your bank
and branch as well. You may write back on or off the list as you may think
fit.

Re: [AI] inquary regarding dropbox

2012-12-06 Thread Amiyo Biswas
We, the old users, share folder in dropbox. It is possible when both of us
have dropbox account.

Just create a folder inside the main dropbox folder. Right-click on it and
arrow down to the dropbox submenu. Under it you will find a share link.
Activate it and you will land on a dropbox web page where you have to follow
the prompts.

I am not quite sure if this is still available for new users.

Zip the folder with win zip or any compression utility, put in the
public folder, then copy the public link and share with whom you want.

HTH!

dear all,

when I share any folder with my friends they have to download each
file of a folder separately. is there any way that they can download a
whole folder in once?

for example, yesterday I shared one dazy book with my friend and it
had 84 files in it so she had to download all files separately. it is
very tough to download too many files.

i have another quary also. tell me how to send a link of a folder, as
someone hit the link downloading will start itself. because so many
people on access india sent me a link as I hit on that link
downloading was started itself.

thanks and regards,

sanchit Katiyar.

The problem is with only public banks. Otherwise private banks have
nothing to do with blindness.
Sbi and bank of india have rejected my signature in capital letter,
while axis bank has accepted the same signature.
With the same sign I have issued many checks.
