Re: [AI] The convention!

2014-01-05 Thread Rahul Bajaj
Hello,

I think that we will be able to make a more informed decision if we know the
itinerary or even if you give us a rough idea about the things that you are
planning on including in the Convention.
I'm sure you would agree that it's difficult for a person to decide whether
he/she wants to attend the Convention without actually knowing what the
Convention would encompass.

Re: [AI] What does Java do on web pages?

2014-01-05 Thread Prashant Naik
Some more addition on JAVA

*What is Java technology and why do I need it? *

Java is a programming language and computing platform first released by Sun
Microsystems in 1995. There are lots of applications and websites that will
not work unless you have Java installed, and more are created every day.
Java is fast, secure, and reliable. From laptops to datacenters, game
consoles to scientific supercomputers, cell phones to the Internet, Java is
everywhere!

Java is, as of 2012, one of the most popular programming languages in use,
particularly for client-server web applications.

Major release versions of Java, along with their release dates:

JDK 1.0 (January 21, 1996)

JDK 1.1 (February 19, 1997)

J2SE 1.2 (December 8, 1998)

J2SE 1.3 (May 8, 2000)

J2SE 1.4 (February 6, 2002)

J2SE 5.0 (September 30, 2004)

Java SE 6 (December 11, 2006)

Java SE 7 (July 28, 2011)

*Is Java free to download?*

Yes, Java is free to download. Get the latest version at java.com.

*Why should I upgrade to the latest Java version?*

The latest Java version contains important enhancements to improve
performance, stability and security of the Java applications that run on
your machine. Installing this free update will ensure that your Java
applications continue to run safely and efficiently.

**

*MORE TECHNICAL INFORMATION *

*What will I get when I download Java software?*

The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is what you get when you download Java
software. The JRE consists of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), Java platform
core classes, and supporting Java platform libraries. The JRE is the
runtime portion of Java software, which is all you need to run it in your
Web browser. When you download Java software, you only get what you need -
no spyware, and no viruses.

*What is Java Plug-in software?*

The Java Plug-in software is a component of the Java Runtime Environment
(JRE). The JRE allows applets written in the Java programming language to
run inside various browsers. The Java Plug-in software is not a standalone
program and cannot be installed separately.

*I have heard the terms Java Virtual Machine and JVM. Is this Java
software?*

The Java Virtual Machine is only one aspect of Java software that is
involved in web interaction. The Java Virtual Machine is built right into
your Java software download, and helps run Java applications.

*Which Java package do I need?*

JDK: (Java Development Kit). For Java Developers. Includes a complete JRE
plus tools for developing, debugging, and monitoring Java applications.

Server JRE: (Server Java Runtime Environment) For deploying Java
applications on servers. Includes tools for JVM monitoring and tools
commonly required for server applications, but does not include browser
integration (the Java plug-in), auto-update, nor an installer. Learn more

JRE: (Java Runtime Environment). Covers most end-users needs. Contains
everything required to run Java applications on your system.

*One test method to check JAVA on your PC*

Go to cammand prompt -- RUN --> CMD -- TYPE java -version -- enter

Re: [AI] about accessablity.

2014-01-05 Thread Yogesh Chhabra
as far as accessibility is concerned,
1: oracle and its components like sql (structure query language) is
very much accessible with jaws.
2: html (hyper text markup language) used in web designing is also
accessible with jaws as the tagging (sourse code) is mostly done in
notepad which is a text editor included with windows.
3: install the latest version of jaws as jaws 12 is too old now and
lots of advancemens have been incorporated in the recent versions
since its release.

[AI] How to Make an Exe File

2014-01-05 Thread Sakthi TAB
An Exe file, or a file with the ".exe" extension, is a type of
executable file commonly used with Windows operating systems. The Exe
file is one of the
most useful files in Windows, as it is commonly used to install or run
programs. Nearly all installers will be packaged as executables, and
many small
software programs (such as the games included with Windows) run
entirely out of Exe files. If you need to package a program or a
script for distribution
or installation, you will need to learn how to make an Exe file
yourself. Fortunately, Windows comes with a built-in utility for
packaging executables,
and using it is fairly simple.

Steps
1. Run the iExpress application in Windows. IExpress is a utility that
is included with Windows, and it provides an easy way to package your
program as an
executable. To run the program, press the "Start" button and then
click "Run." In the dialog box, type "iexpress.exe" and press the
Enter key. If you use
Windows Vista, you can just press the "Start" button and begin typing
"iexpress," and the program's icon will appear in the search results.
2. Specify that you want to create a new executable. When the iExpress
program launches, you will be asked to choose between opening an
existing executable
or creating a new one. Choose to create a new one by selecting the
radio button that reads, "Create new self extraction directive file."
3. Specify the type of executable package you want to create. The next
screen will ask you to choose between 3 options for the action that
should be taken
when a user opens your Exe file. The first is to extract the files and
then run an additional command (for instance, to make changes to the
registry).
The second is to extract the files only (this is the recommended
option). The third option is only applicable for distributing Active-X
controls.
4. Give your installer package a title. The next screen will ask you
to specify the title for your executable package. This is not the
filename for the Exe
file; this is the title that will appear across the top of all windows
opened by the installer.
5. Choose a confirmation prompt for your Exe file if desired. The next
screen in iExpress will allow you to specify a text prompt given to
the user upon opening
the executable. If you don't wish to provide a prompt, check the radio
button that reads "No prompt."
6. Specify the license agreement governing the use of your executable.
The next screen will allow you to choose a license agreement for your
software. The
installer will inform the user that the agreement you pick governs the
use of the software. To display a license agreement, type the
agreement into a plain
text file (using the ".txt" extension) and attach it after selecting
the radio button reading, "Display a license."
7. Select the files that your Exe file will install on the user's
computer. The next screen will allow you to choose the files that your
executable should
install; you can select as many or as few as needed. Add a file by
clicking the "Add" button and then navigating to the file's location
on your hard drive.
You will be able to see the files you've added in the iExpress window.
8. Specify the executable's filename. The next screen will ask you to
specify the filename for the Exe file; remember it must end with the
".exe" extension.
This screen also includes a check box for either hiding or showing the
full extraction process to the user.
9. Create the executable.
• Click Next to create the package.
• Click the Finish button on the final iExpress screen to compile the
Exe file and save it in the location you specified. You can test the
executable by
double-clicking on it to extract the files.
10. Another way to create EXE is ExeScript utility. Just make a simple
BAT or VBS script and convert to EXE.

BRISTOL, R.I. -

A FEW years ago, when I mentioned to a woman I met at a party that I
was teaching in a school for the blind, she seemed confused. "Can I
just ask you one question?" she said. "How do you talk to your
students?"

I explained that the students were blind, not deaf. Raising the palms
of her hands at me, as if to stem further misunderstanding, she said:
"Yes, I know they're not deaf. But what I really mean is, how do you
actually talk to them?"

I knew, because I had been asked this question before by reasonably
intelligent people, that the woman didn't know exactly what she meant.
All she knew was that in her mind there existed a substantial
intellectual barrier between the blind and the sighted. The blind
could hear, yes. But could they properly understand?

Throughout history and across cultures the blind have been traduced by
a host of mythologies such as this. They have variously been perceived
as pitiable idiots incapable of learning, as artful masters of
deception or as mystics possessed of supernatural powers. One of the
most persistent misconceptions about blindness is that it is a curse
from God for misdeeds perpetrated in a past life, which cloaks the
blind person in spiritual darkness and makes him not just dangerous
but evil.

A majority of my blind students at the International Institute for
Social Entrepreneurs in Trivandrum, India, a branch of Braille Without
Borders, came from the developing world: Madagascar, Colombia, Tibet,
Liberia, Ghana, Kenya, Nepal and India. One of my students, the
27-year-old Sahr, lost most of his eyesight to measles when he was a
child. (Like many children in rural West Africa, Sahr had not been
vaccinated.) The residents of Sahr's village were certain that his
blindness - surely the result of witchcraft or immoral actions on his
family's part - would adversely affect the entire village. They
surrounded his house and shouted threats and abuse. They confiscated a
considerable portion of his parents' land. Eventually, the elders
decreed that Sahr's father must take the child out to the bush, "where
the demons live," and abandon him there. The parents refused and fled
the village with their son.

Many of my students had similar experiences. Marco's parents, devout
Colombian Catholics, begged a priest to say a Mass so that their blind
infant son would die before his existence brought shame and hardship
on their household. The villagers in Kyile's remote Tibetan village
insisted that she, her two blind brothers and their blind father
should all just commit suicide because they were nothing but a burden
to the sighted members of the family. When, as a child in Sierra
Leone, James began to see objects upside down because of an ocular
disease, the villagers were certain that he was possessed by demons.

In these places, schools for blind children were deemed a preposterous
waste of resources and effort. Teachers in regular schools refused to
educate them. Sighted children ridiculed them, tricked them, spat at
them and threw stones at them. And when they reached working age, no
one would hire them. During a visit to the Braille Without Borders
training center in Tibet, I met blind children who had been beaten,
told they were idiots, locked in rooms for years on end and abandoned
by their parents. These stories, which would have been commonplace in
the Dark Ages, took place in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. They are
taking place now. Nine out of 10 blind children in the developing
world still have no access to education, many for no other reason than
that they are blind.

The United States has one of the lowest rates of visual impairment in
the world, and yet blindness is still among the most feared physical
afflictions. Even in this country, the blind are perceived as a people
apart.

Aversion toward the blind exists for the same reason that most
prejudices exist: lack of knowledge. Ignorance is a powerful generator
of fear. And fear slides easily into aggression and contempt. Anyone
who has not spent more than five minutes with a blind person might be
forgiven for believing - like the woman I met at the party - that
there is an unbridgeable gap between us and them.

For most of us, sight is the primary way we interpret the world. How
can we even begin to conceive of a meaningful connection with a person
who cannot see? Before I began living and working am

[AI] Adblock+for Internet Explorer

2014-01-05 Thread Arpit Jain
Hi!

One of the things that I liked about Firefox & Chrome was that I could
install adblock+ add-on and get rid of annoying ads on webpages.
Yesterday out of curiosity I looked through the add-ons available for
IE (Windows 8) and to my surprise I found that it is available for IE
as well. I'm pasting the link here for those of you who were unaware
of this fact: http://www.iegallery.com/Search?q=adblock
Note:- Open this link in Internet Explorer.

[AI] Why Do We Fear the Blind? By Rosemary Mahoney

2014-01-05 Thread avinash shahi
Very enlightening piece published in NyTimes today. Made my day.
Rosemary Mahoney is the author of the forthcoming book “For the
Benefit of Those Who See: Dispatches From the World of the Blind.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/05/opinion/sunday/why-do-we-fear-the-blind.html?ref=opinion&pagewanted=all

BRISTOL, R.I. —

A FEW years ago, when I mentioned to a woman I met at a party that I
was teaching in a school for the blind, she seemed confused. “Can I
just ask you one question?” she said. “How do you talk to your
students?”

I explained that the students were blind, not deaf. Raising the palms
of her hands at me, as if to stem further misunderstanding, she said:
“Yes, I know they’re not deaf. But what I really mean is, how do you
actually talk to them?”

I knew, because I had been asked this question before by reasonably
intelligent people, that the woman didn’t know exactly what she meant.

One of my students, the
27-year-old Sahr, lost most of his eyesight to measles when he was a
child. (Like many children in rural West Africa, Sahr had not been
vaccinated.) The residents of Sahr’s village were certain that his
blindness — surely the result of witchcraft or immoral actions on his
family’s part — would adversely affect the entire village. They
surrounded his house and shouted threats and abuse. They confiscated a
considerable portion of his parents’ land. Eventually, the elders
decreed that Sahr’s father must take the child out to the bush, “where
the demons live,” and abandon him there. The parents refused and fled
the village with their son.

Many of my students had similar experiences. Marco’s parents, devout
Colombian Catholics, begged a priest to say a Mass so that their blind
infant son would die before his existence brought shame and hardship
on their household. The villagers in Kyile’s remote Tibetan village
insisted that she, her two blind brothers and their blind father
should all just commit suicide because they were nothing but a burden
to the sighted members of the family.

Anyone
who has not spent more than five minutes with a blind person might be
forgiven for believing — like the woman I met at the party — that
there is an unbridgeable gap between us and them.

For most of us, sight is the primary way we interpret the world. How
can we even begin to conceive of a meaningful connection with a person
who cannot see? Before I began living and working among blind people,
I, too, wondered this. Whenever I saw a blind person on the street I
would stare, transfixed, hoping, out of a vague and visceral
discomfort, that I wouldn’t have to engage with him. In his 1930 book
“The World of the Blind,” Pierre Villey, a blind French professor of
literature, summarized the
