Re: [AI] Outlook Express Help!
If you install ms office 2007, this problem may occur. i don't exactly remember how I solved it. Try changing the language on the spelling tab of options submenu under the tools menu. It is a simple combo box for six or seven languages. A solucion for this problem was offered by someone on this list a few years back. Unfortunately, I did not save the message. You may search our archive. [AI] 5 Reasons why you need Twitter if you're blind or partially sighted
5 Reasons why you need Twitter if you're blind or partially sighted Source: http://www.rnib.org.uk/5-reasons-you-need-twitter-if-youre-blind-or-partiall y-sighted?utm_campaign=blog_techshare_social http://www.rnib.org.uk/5-reasons-you-need-twitter-if-youre-blind-or-partial ly-sighted?utm_campaign=blog_techshare_socialutm_medium=social_mediautm_so urce=twitter utm_medium=social_mediautm_source=twitter Social media is doing more than simply bringing disabled communities together. We discover why Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are must-haves for anyone with sight loss If you thought communicating in 140 characters was a fad for the fickle, think again. We all need to embrace social media if we want to keep up with news, friends and career opportunities, says Paul Springer, author of Pioneers of Digital http://www.pioneersofdigital.com/ . Putting some accessibility issues aside (for now), we look at the benefits of Twitter https://twitter.com/RNIB , Facebook https://www.facebook.com/rnibuk and LinkedIn http://www.linkedin.com/company/rnib for people who are blind and partially sighted. 1. Connect over hobbies, not your disability Whether it's your addiction to The Great British Bake Off or love of cats in costumes, 'Twitter allows you to bond with like-minded people over hobbies and interests, rather than just your disability,' says Springer. 'You can meet people like you, but your disability isn't the focus.' 2. Share news, accessibly Getting hold of accessible, large print and braille formats of magazines and newspapers http://www.rnib.org.uk/information-everyday-living-reading-what-read/newspa pers-and-magazines used to be a long, drawn-out process. Now, with the help of news feeds, you can read stories using readers or magnifiers at the click of a button as soon as news hits the press. 3. Fight for a cause Three words: Ice Bucket Challenge. Social media can be an incredible source for raising awareness for a campaign. 'Research shows that political or charitable causes have the biggest impact of all,' says Springer. So if you feel strongly about a movement, social media is a pretty effective way to shout about it. 4. Keep up with technology From Smart Glasses http://www.rnib.org.uk/future-smart-glasses to FingerReaders http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/07/08/fingerreader-read-blind-mit_n_5565 898.html?ncid=tweetlnkushpmg0046 , assistive technology is developing all the time and most of the latest information can be found being shared virally via online networks. Joining technology communities means you're in the know and it could make a difference to your everyday life. 5. Improve your employability The clue's in the name, social networking is a great way of meeting potential employers and increasing your employability http://www.rnib.org.uk/young-people/starting-work . What's more, you can network on a level playing field. Needless to say, get yourself on LinkedIn, market your skills and start harnessing the power of social. Paul Springer will be speaking at our technology accessibility event in Glasgow, Scotland. For tickets or more information, go to our Techshare http://www.rnib.org.uk/techshare-europe-2014 page. [AI] Blog article - Can CAPTCHAs Be Made Accessible?
Sharing AFB blog article on key issue we face during internet access. Now even IRCTC log in and National stock exchange site where we create stock portfolios are added with CAPTCHAs and made things difficult. Source: http://www.afb.org/blog/afb-blog/can-captchas-be-made-accessible/12 Can CAPTCHAs Be Made Accessible? Lots of websites have a real and urgent need to keep bots and spammers off their sites. One partial solution is the CAPTCHA. What Is a CAPTCHA, and Can It Be Accessible? Really, a CAPTCHA is any technique that can be used to tell a computer (bot) from a human. But the most common technique is to put a fuzzy bunch of characters on the page and ask the user to type them into an edit field. A human, theoretically, can decipher the fuzzy characters, but a bot cannot. This has some obvious flaws in it, even if you've never seen these things (or didn't know what they were, more likely). First, if you are a human who can't see very well, or can't type very well, can you do this? The CAPTCHA even keeps away people who don't think they have a visual impairment, just have normal trouble with tiny, fuzzy, low-contrast text. If you have to say Wait, let me go get my glasses, you know someone who really has low vision is going to be stuck. What about assistive technology? Can the CAPTCHAs be read by a screen reader? No. How about putting a civilized alt tag on the image of text? No. Remember, the sites who use them are trying to keep away bots. So, anything machine-readable would be easily defeated by the bots. Some sites have put up an audible CAPTCHA. The idea is to hit a button or link, listen to some audio, and type what you hear into the box. The audio is made very hard to understand, a and there are usually several voices saying numbers and letters, so it is hard for a human to know what to type and what to ignore. This is intended to defeat the bots, of course, but it defeats humans, too. Users who don't have good hearing, don't have audio on their computers, or lack typing skill, are cut out, along with those in noisy environments. So, is this really a bleak situation? No, we have a solution. If you comment on this blog post, you'll see an accessible CAPTCHA in action. How Does an Accessible CAPTCHA Work? Here's how ours works—evil bots, go away, don't read this! We have a teeny list of questions and answers. The questions have to be really easy, so that a user who has a reasonable ability to use this site would be able to answer the question. The answers have to be easy, and no ambiguous spelling options are allowed. For example, we can never have good bye as the answer, because there are 211 ways to spell it. (I made that number up.) So, we might have: Please type hello here. Or: Please put the word horse in the box. We have to vary the structure of the sentence, so that a determined bot programmer cannot simply say to pull the word out of the quotes and put it into the box. And, we have to have enough of them that the bot can't put horse into the box and be correct every fifth time. Advantages of This System Over the Image-of-Fuzzy-Text Approach It can be made to be any color or any size by the user. So, someone with low vision can make it readable along with the rest of the site, no special technique or knowledge required. The screen reader user hears the clue just like the rest of the site's text, and can read the clue word-by-word or character-by-character if necessary to see exactly what is wanted. Users of braille displays sees the accessible CAPTCHA on the braille display just as they do any other text, making this technique work just as well for deaf-blind users as for any user. In other words, the amount of knowledge, skill, visual acuity, and computer access for the CAPTCHA is the same as for the rest of the site. Is This a Perfect Solution? It is still an obstacle to some human users, in particular those who use screen readers and have low literacy skills. Some of our users don't know how to spell senior and they don't know how to get their screen readers to tell them the details. People for whom English is not their native language have also had trouble with our CAPTCHAs—we avoid using color names, as users sometimes interpret Type the word 'blue' as Type the word that is blue, and are frustrated (and angry, as you might imagine). And, we have to continually update our list of clues and answers, so the bots don't catch on. We have to test new pairs with users, so we can be sure we haven't inadvertently introduced complexity. End of article. Re: [AI] Blog article - Can CAPTCHAs Be Made Accessible?
These issues came up in the hearing at CCPD office in the case on IRCTC yesterday. I provided these and many other alternatives. I am hopeful that CCPD will issue a strong directive to IRCTC soon. The next fight will be to get IRCTC to comply with it. Bhiwani jee if you are reading this then you may contact me to get more details about your case. -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Prashant Naik Sent: 04 September 2014 19:26 To: accessindia Subject: [AI] Blog article - Can CAPTCHAs Be Made Accessible? In today's' episode of Ek Mulakat, listen an exclusive interview of Mr. Prateek Agarwal, CEO and owner of Daedal Technovation Private limited, India. Agarwal is a software engineer, develops software solutions, provides personality and life skills training to corporate and individuals and once a week, teaches computers to visually-challenged people. What makes this so worthy of mention is that the young, spirited entrepreneur was born blind. The inability to see did not deter 24-year-old Prateek Agarwal from pursuing his childhood dream of opening his own enterprise. Agarwal, who pursued computer science engineering,is now the CEO of an IT company Deadel Technovations pvt. Ltd. floated by him in 2010. Currently,he is employing more than 35 people and has offices in Jaipur, Udaipur, and Hyderabad besides presence in US and australia. He has been awarded by x governer of rajasthan mr. madanlal khurana and IT minister sachin pilot for his terrific achievements besides being featured in various leading news papers, magazines, TV channels and internet websites. A product of St Michael School,Subhash Chowk,Agarwal had a keen interest in mathematics. Despite a shortage of books in Braille,he managed to score better marks in his senior secondary exams than his batch mates. His enthusiasm and never-give-up attitude helped him trump all odds. After Class 12 exams,he appeared for entrance tests at various engineering colleges but was refused admission on the grounds of disability. In the end,NIIT University came to his rescue and admitted him in the computer science branch of engineering. In his final year, like other class mates,he too was upbeat about placements. However,he got a rude shock when he had to face prevailing prejudices in the corporate sector against the disabled. After working hard on his application and getting internship experience at reputed firms, two Forbes 500 companies refused him job, simply because he was blind. Stung by the refusal,Agarwal decided to start his own software company in Jaipur. He worked tirelessly for days meeting potential clients. The hard work paid off and he started getting assignments. In 2010, Prateek Agarwal started his own IT company, Daedal Technovations Pvt Ltd. [AI] Fw: (VIB) Visually impaired bank employees welfare association launched
From: Asudani, Rajesh Sent: Friday, September 05, 2014 10:12 AM To: vib-in...@googlegroups.com Subject: (VIB) Visually impaired bank employees welfare association launched My dear fellow bank employees with visual impairment Today is going to be a red letter day in the history of Indian financial sector and disability movement. Today, we, as the employees of the banking finance and insurance sector who are visually challenged have come together as the Visually Impaired Bank Employees Welfare Association VIBEWA. I am privileged to launch the association with you all on this day. On my behalf as the first president of this body, and on behalf of all my co-workers in the executive committee, I assure you all that we would ceaselessly endeavor to empower all employees with all degrees of visual impairment in the banking, finance and the insurance sector. It is a matter of satisfaction that the sector is giving employment to VI as statutorily mandated. However, we need to go well beyond this, though this itself is fraught with challenges. Going beyond entails procuring meaningful work, job satisfaction, a fully accessible and enabling work environment, non discrimination in all stages and aspects of career including but not limited to training, promotion etc., parity with non disabled staff taking cognizance of special requirements arising out of visual challenges at the same time, and many more such things. The situation in law and on the ground is far from satisfactory. So, we have decided to strive for our betterment and the betterment of the sector and build a momentous platform for the purpose. The association is the fruit of much hard work put in by our founders for last couple of years. However, the association cannot yield fruit without your active cooperation. I, as the first president, and as a fellow visually impaired bank employee, call upon all of you, to associate with the association in thought word and deed! Become the member and witness the change! Nay, be a part of the change! We individually or collectively, cannot bring utopia overnight, but we collectively, can march on and give a more accessible, a more satisfying, a more enabling, a more positive, a more equal, a more equitable, a more meaningful career to ourselves and to those aspiring to succeed us. To know more about and join the association, please visit its website at: www.vibewa.org So, three cheers to VIEBEWA!
