Re: [AI] Web visum problem
As per my opinion, Bhavani is absolutely right. As a note to inform here, few of our access india friends are also trying to sort out this issue by reporting to the concerned department. However, if the problem persists in a government, v can file a bug in the concerned department. But, there are many more privately held websites, those can't be even accessed at a very basic level without solving the capcha. Moreover, few websites even don't allow such hacking add ons like webvisum... So, it is required for a complete change by suggesting a better idea instead of capcha or to give the capcha in text along with the grey image or it should be made mandetory to add audio challenge for all the websites. Hope the other experts on this list will come up with better idea than me. Same had been implemented on the inclusive planet where we did not have any captcha whether image or audio. but due to spammers a kind of captcha was necessary there. then mathamatical captcha had been implemented but no use. bots are the computer programs which can perform these things automated. so calculation is not at all challenging. And Bhavani Shankar, how can be the webvisum hacking tool? they use the OCR functionality to resolve these captchas since there will be couple of characters . and there had been another service which was human operative called solona. i'm not sure currently it is active or not. it was human operative 21 Hrs service in a day. -- Regards, Shek Mohammad ali, Cisco systems - Original Message - From: Jyotsna jyotsnadi...@gmail.com To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerningthe disabled. accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Tuesday, September 09, 2014 2:33 PM Subject: Re: [AI] Web visum problem Hi, I myself and hope entire VI community is ready to join this captcha removal mission as this is a big hurdle in independent use of web contents for us. Hi, Something that I'd been working on this past summer at IBM Research involved the development of an Android app for indoor navigation without the use of iBeacons, QR codes or other such infrastructure. While we tweaked the project a bit later on and ended implementing an indoor+outdoor navigator+OM trainer (using beacons though), you might want to try it out without any such infrastructure. Re: [AI] Web visum problem
While I agree completely with Sheik Sir in that bots can easily perform mathematical computations, the questions could be made tricky, rather silly, to ensure that only a human can respond correctly. For instance, your father is your father, true or false? Of course, there will have to be some algorithm to randomize questions. Alternatively, we can employ an authentication process using E-mail links pretty much the way it works for creating accounts. Both section 508 and WCAG 2.0 (an international web accessibility standard developed after consultations with thousands of disabled computer scientists and users and web developers) allow captchas, so approaching the Supreme Court to remove them doesn't make any sense. Also, a security threat in the name of accessibility is probably not the way to go forward. Best, On 9/9/14, Sheik Mohammedali shahid.se...@gmail.com wrote: impossible folks. mean removing captcha. mathamatical questions can be very much answered by the bots. Moreover, few websites even don't allow such hacking add ons like webvisum... So, it is required for a complete change by suggesting a better idea instead of capcha or to give the capcha in text along with the grey image or it should be made mandetory to add audio challenge for all the websites. Re: [AI] Suggestions required for developing software forVisuallyChallenged:
In my Sixth Sem BCA, I had taken help from my tutor and managed to develop an APP on image processing. there were many functionalities for the software like, Quiz: if the student clicks on the part of the image and type the answer, the part of the image would have an icon turned to blue if the answer is correct or else it would be red. another functionality was to give information about different parts of the image if the mouse is howered on it for example, if there was an animal cell, if the mouse was on mitochondrea, there would be discription power house of the cell etc. the images could be added dynamically. the user could add any university map or any image instead of ianimal cell. so moving the mouse on room number 34 would give discription as rest room etc. mapping was done through another software and implemented in my software with different functionality. I thought to use the same approach for indoor navigation using GPRS with audio feedback. for example if you are in front of the room number 111 it would speak out the location. and you can use it for any university by mapping the image using external software. in case this does not work out, I need your suggestions. please take time to think about this because its going to be my research topic and we all are going to benifit from it. in case you get an idea please suggest me. thankyou for your suggestions so far. For instance, your father is your father, true or false? Of course, there will have to be some algorithm to randomize questions. Alternatively, we can employ an authentication process using E-mail links pretty much the way it works for creating accounts. Both section 508 and WCAG 2.0 (an international web accessibility standard developed after consultations with thousands of disabled computer scientists and users and web developers) allow captchas, so approaching the Supreme Court to remove them doesn't make any sense. no NGO will take any action against this, because the chief of NGOs are already having sighted assistance. also some of them don't know to operate computers. you would not be able to let them understand about this captcha. If you are really serious, file a petition against union of india in CCPD. and write a letter to the united nation. -Original Message- From: Jyotsna Sent: Tuesday, September 09, 2014 2:33 PM To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerningthe disabled. Hi Kartik,, again we need to invest lot of resources in every site where captchas are to be answered. better if we have an exclusive service in order to make it availed universally just like webvisum. - Original Message - From: Kartik Sawhney sawhney.kar...@gmail.com To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerningthe disabled. accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Tuesday, September 09, 2014 3:32 PM Subject: Re: [AI] Web visum problem While I agree completely with Sheik Sir in that bots can easily perform mathematical computations, the questions could be made tricky, rather silly, to ensure that only a human can respond correctly. Also, a security threat in the name of accessibility is probably not the way to go forward. obviously! this is bitter truth that no NGOs will take such initiatives since most of them are lacking in resource management. and they will not involve in these unless they get benefitted. Only they require funding. but before we could take such initiatives let us form a world-wide selution then only it can be implemented. when you mean the captcha it is the challenge which can only be answered by human. may be in any form whether audio or image. but removing the entire captcha system is not acceptable right? --- Original Message - From: bhawani shankar verma bsvermad...@gmail.com To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issuesconcerning thedisabled. accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Tuesday, September 09, 2014 4:30 PM Subject: Re: [AI] Web visum problem no NGO will take any action against this, because the chief of NGOs are already having sighted assistance. also some of them don't know to operate computers. you would not be able to let them understand about this captcha. webvisum does not work everywhere. Here onething. if your personal/financial credentials are stolen, at least, an individual can never take access to these stuffs immediately. and they are stolen robotically and used on the merchant sites in the same manner. O no no indeed, I did not suggest webvisum but I had put my views comparatively. there should be a mechanism which can do the job exclusively. as suggested by kartik, there should be some analytical questions to be answered. it is very unfortunate that nobody is taking part in this critical discussion. let us hear from other folks what do they have to say on this. - Original Message - From: bhawani shankar verma bsvermad...@gmail.com To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issuesconcerning thedisabled. accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Tuesday, September 09, 2014 7:39 PM Subject: Re: [AI] Web visum problem suppose I entered all my details of credit card like card number, expiry date and 3d secure password, what this captcha will do their. I was in the team that developed these in 2005. There is technical limitation in Tally, it does not expose information through accessibility API. So, JAWS scripts can help to an extent, but cannot make it as accessible as MS Excel. At that time, we explained the Tally developers how they can make some changes in their code to make it accessible. Initially they agreed but after some months they stopped working on these improvements. I am not aware if further development on this subject took place after that. A couple of people contacted me for guidance, they wanted to take it forward. But I have not heard anything after that. Busywin is a better option than Tally on accessibility terms. The only problem is that it is not so popular among accountants, so people fine it difficult to find accountants who want to learn it and use it. with regards Avneesh -Original Message- From: Sunil Sangtani. [AI] Apple Officially Announces iPhone 6!!!!!
Hello Folks, Apple finally unveiled two new smartphones - iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus - and a new smartwatch simply called Apple Watch. Source: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/tech/mobiles/Apple-unveils-bigger-iPhone-6-6-Plus-smartwatch/articleshow/42118241.cms? Article Begins Apple on Tuesday did not surprise its admirers. As expected, the iconic company unveiled two new smartphones - iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus - and a new smartwatch simply called Apple Watch at a function in San Francisco, US. iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are the thinnest ever Apple has ever made. iPhone 5S and 5 are 7.6mm thick, but iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are even thinner at 6.8mm and 7.1mm respectively. These are, of course, not the thinnest smartphones globally, as that title lies with Gionee's Elife S5.5 with thickness of 5.5mm. The two phones finally take Apple to the big-screen smartphone segment, sporting 4.7- and 5.5-inch screens respectively. Apple has increased the pixel density of the two smartphones, with the smaller one having 38% more pixels at 1334x750p resolution and iPhone 6 Plus sporting 185% more pixels with screen resolution of 1920x1080p. Apple is calling the new display panels Retina HD, a new generation of iPhone screens. These LCD panels feature ion strengthened glass, but there has been no word on the long-rumoured sapphire glass panel yet. Powered by the new A8 processor, iPhone 6 is up to 50% more energy efficient, so you can have higher sustained performance. The 64-bit CPU architecture-based A8 processor is 20% faster in application processing and 50% faster in rendering graphics compared to its predecessor. It is able to sustain performance-intensive tasks like playing a game at higher frame rates. The power button is on the side now. The two iPhone 6 models sport an 8MP iSight camera that features phase detection. Despite no increase in camera resolution, iPhone 6 takes 43MP panorama photos. And like many rivals , including Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and S5, HTC One (M8) and LG G3, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus features optical image stabilization for blur-free photos and videos. The new generation of iPhones is also the thinnest smartphones Apple has ever made. iPhone 5S and 5 were 7.6mm thick, but iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are even thinner at 6.8mm and 7.1mm, respectively. These are, of course, not the thinnest smartphones, as that title lies with Gionee's Elife S5.5 with thickness of 5.5mm. The Power button in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is on the side. It features a barometer sensor that can measure relative elevation. The new iPhones support landscape mode. Apple also unveiled its own take on single-handed operation mode, wherein touching the Home button quickly will shrink down the whole display area such that the buttons on the top can be accessed easily. The battery life of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is relatively better than that of iPhone 5S. iPhone 6 will deliver 3G talk time of 14 hours and run 10 hours if the user is browsing the internet on 3G and 4G networks. The bigger model, iPhone 6 Plus, will offer 3G talk time of 24 hours and 12 hours of web browsing on 3G and 4G. Apple has scrapped the 32GB variant with iPhone 6, which now comes in 16, 64 and 128GB options. In the US market, where telecom carriers provide subsidies on smartphones, the two models — iPhone 6 and 6 Plus — will be available for $199, $299 and $399 respectively, on a two-year contract. As rumoured, iPhone 6 Plus will be a $100 more expensive for each storage variant compared to iPhone 6. iPhone 5S will now cost $99 on a two-year contract, while iPhone 5C is free. Apple also ventured into the world of mobile payments with a new feature called Apple Pay. The new iPhones will have secure chips with NFC capability, and what's best you can take a picture of your credit card and keep it. The iPhone maker announced it has already tied up with as many as 22,000 retailers for Apple Pay, including Macy's, Bloomingdales, Wallgreens, Duane Reade, Subway and McDonalds. Calling it a very key day for Apple in his opening remarks, Cook did not go further into detailing any numbers and adoption figures and announced the new iPhones straightaway. Re: [AI] Web visum problem
Dear Bhawani, We tried our best to make you understand that why the CAPTCHA is necessary to implement on the website but still you are not ready to except it. For the sake of accessibility we just can't demand to remove any features / measures which are vital to the website because they are inaccessible to us. Rather than it would be good approach to notify the website administrators about it and suggest them for other alternatives. I wonder you are not aware how the website functions behind the seen. The folks studied in web development can easily understand this. If you have any contacts of web developers you can take their views regarding to this and I 100% say they will strongly disagree on your point. Finally, if you wish to know what happens if the CAPTCHA is not placed on the site, take the example of Inclusive planet website. Dear Friends We are delighted to invite you for Antarchakshu 2014, our annual sensitisation and awareness event. The theme this year is mainstreaming education for blind and low-vision persons (from KG to PG). Participants will get an opportunity to play with numbers, read maps with their fingers, conduct experiments in a laboratory and much more, the way the blind do.I look forward to seeing you and your colleagues on September 12 / 13, as per your convenience. Attached to this email are 2 separate invites. We would also appreciate if you could circulate them widely among your friends / colleagues / business partners, especially those connected with education. The following points are of importance.1. We need approximately an hour of the participants' time.2. This 1 hour can be any time between 11 am and 7 pm on either 12th or 13th September (Friday and Saturday).3. We would appreciate if schools could nominate as many teachers as possible, as also send their principals, administrators and management committee members.4. The interaction with the teachers can be in English, Hindi or Marathi.5. A certificate of participation will be provided to teachers / school representatives. The schools that send more than 5 representatives would also be eligible to a recognition and participation certificate.6. It would be ideal if participants could pre-register, mentioning their name, school and approximate time preference. This can be done by calling:a: Krishna: 22623298, 22626329b. Calveena: 90040398497. There is no participation fee. My contact details are mentioned in the signature line. This includes students with disabilities. Education philosophies the world over have transitioned from ‘special’ to ‘inclusive’, under which children with disabilities study in the same class as other children. It has been observed that this not only adds value to their learning but significantly uplifts the learning of their non-disabled classmates and friends. However, because of lack of information and awareness, schools tend to remain apprehensive about being able to deliver on inclusive education opportunities for students with disabilities. The Xavier’s Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged (XRCVC) (www.xrcvc.org), a department of St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, is committed to the philosophy of an equal and enriching educational experience for all. Our experience with being able to include students with disabilities in our regular classrooms has been tried and tested, and refined over the years. The XRCVC’s experience over the past 10 years has made us realise the need for reaching out to other educational institutes in the city. The XRCVC holds an annual awareness event “Antarchakshu - The Eye WithinTM” that aims to spread awareness on the lives of persons with blindness and low vision to better equip its participants to understand this physical condition and take back to their daily life, insights into their world. This year, Antarchakshu focuses exclusively on “Inclusive Education”. We write to invite you to partner with us on this journey. Antarchakshu is scheduled for September 12th and 13th and we would like to invite teachers and management members of your school to participate in the event. Participants need to spend only 45 - 60 minutes at the event during either of these days, anytime between 11 a.m.and 7 p.m. We can pre-book a slot of the day for your institution if you can register with us for the same in advance. The event would prove invaluable for schools that currently do not have any visually challenged students in their classes, as it would better prepare them for future requests. Subject: Re: [AI] Web visum problem Dear Bhawani, We tried our best to make you understand that why the CAPTCHA is necessary to implement on the website but still you are not ready to except it.
