Re: [AI] about LIC policy

2014-09-19 Thread Sandeep Gautam
HI,
In Jeevan Anand policy, is there provision of DAB (double accident benefit) for
policy holder?
Pl make sure about its applicability for VI person before purchasing it.
I presume, for life risk cover, one should go for term plan instead of other
traditional insurance policies.
And, if some one has goal of wealth creation in future through insurance plans,
one should think again.
For wealth creation, one should go for SIP in mutual funds having balanced
exposure in equity and debt market.

I want to know encase if anyone has faced same issue, and if there is any

I 100% agree with Sandeep's view.

One must not buy these life insurence policies but for pure term plan.

Especially, since it appears that, you have just joined employment, it
is all the more important to take these decissions with caution.

Please go for mutual funds for not only wealth creation but for tax
saving as well.

In case, you require any specific advise, feel free to revert and I
shall try to help you with it.

Re: [AI] Request for advice for treatment

2014-09-19 Thread Yogesh Chhabra
Hi anil, you should visit Dept. of Medical ophthalmology, Retina Uvea (AIIMS)

As far as central serus retinopathy is concerned, Differential
diagnosis should be immediately performed to rule out retinal
detachment, which is a medical emergency. Additionally, a clinical
record should be taken to keep a timeline of the detachment.

Most eyes with CSR undergo spontaneous resorption of subretinal fluid
within 3–4 months, recovery of visual acuity usually follows. Any
ongoing corticosteroid treatment should be tapered and stopped, where
possible. It is important to check current medication, including nasal
sprays and creams, for ingredients of corticosteroids, if found seek
advice from a medical practitioner for an alternative.

Patients sometimes present with an obvious history of psychosocial
stress, in which case counselling and expectancy is relevant.

Treatment should be considered if it does not disappear within 3–4
months, spontaneously or as the result of counselling.

Laser photocoagulation, which effectively burns the leak area shut,
may be considered in cases where there is little improvement in a 3 to
4 month duration, and the leakage is confined to a single or a few
sources of leakage at a safe distance from the fovea. However, for
many cases the leak is very near the central macula, where
photocoagulation would leave a blind spot or the leakage is widespread
and its source is difficult to identify. Foveal attenuation has been
associated with more than 4 months' duration of symptoms, however a
better long-term outcome has not been demonstrated with laser
photocoagulation than without photocoagulation. Laser photocoagulation
can permanently damage vision where applied. Carefully tuned lasers
can limit this damage. Even so laser photocoagulation is not a
preferred treatment for leaks in the central vision and is considered
an outdated treatment by some doctors.

In chronic case Transpupillary thermotherapy has been suggested as an
alternative to laser photocoagulation where the leak is in the central
macula.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) with verteporfin has shown promise as an
effective treatment with minimal complications. Follow up studies have
confirmed the treatment's long-term effectiveness including its
effectiveness for the chronic variant of the disease. Indocyanine
green angiography can be used to predict how the patient will respond
to PDT.

Yellow micropulse laser has shown promise in very limited trials.

Other experimental treatments include anti-VEGFs and several oral medications.

Dear All,

Greetings from Mauritius. I hope that you are all well.

I am back in Mauritius from the US since 2nd August. Some major events
took place since my return. I am now the acting Chairperson of DPO
Mauritius. There was a Disability Business Forum held on 15-16
September 2014 in Mauritius whereby Mr. Javed Abidi was in Mauritius.
In fact he is leaving Mauritius today.

Coming back to my participation in the Young African Leaders
Initiative: it has been a tremendously enriching experience. I had 6
weeks of course on Civic Leadership at Rutgers University, New Jersey.
I experienced an inclusive society for 7 weeks in the US. I was in
Washington DC during the 7th week. I met with President Obama and the
First Lady. I shook hands with President Obama and hugged the First
Lady. Some days ago I have been presented a Microsoft Internship This
internship is being given to only 100 fellows on the total of 500
fellows who participated in the fellowship in the US. I have accepted
the offer and will start my internship in Microsoft Office in
Mauritius soon. I am so delighted to contribute to the welfare of my
fellow friends with visual impairment in Mauritius.

Hope you all prosperity and good luck in your endeavor,

Subject: [AI] Court reverses undue transfer of blind professor

 Dear All,

I am happy to inform you that the judiciary has once again expressed
its deep concern for promotion and protection of rights of persons
 with disaiblity.

please refer below reproduced news covered in times of India with
regard to reverse an undue transfer of a visually challenged
 professors.

 with regards,
 Gautam Agarwal

Court reverses undue transfer of blind professor

 Tue, 09/16/2014 -
A vindictive transfer of a 100% visually impaired professor of
English, from a college close to his home to one 18km away by the
Puducherry higher education department, was flayed by the Madras high
court which said the authorities had acted in an insensitive manner.
 Dr D Ramkumar, a doctorate degree-holder in English, is a 100%
visually challenged person working as head of the department of
English in Kasthurba College for Women in Villianur, Puducherry since
 his appointment in February 2009.
The government-controlled Pondicherry Society for Higher Education
administers six colleges including this institution, which is located
about 9km from Dr Ramkumar's home. In 2013, he was transferred to
Rajiv Gandhi Arts and Science College in Thavalakuppam, Puducherry, on
the ground that only women faculty members were preferred at Kasthurba
college. Though authorities cited administrative reasons for the
transfer, Ramkumar said he was being targeted because they were
underwrong the impression that he was behind a sexual harassment
complaint lodged by a woman lecturer recently. appeal to authorities
was dismissed, and a single judge of the high court too upheld the
transfer saying the transfer was an incidence of service.
Reversing the single judge order and slamming the higher education
department authorities for their attitude, a division bench of Justice
N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice K Ravichandrabaabu said: There is no
dispute regarding the power of the authority to transfer an officer
from one college to another college on administrative exigency.
However, having regard to the state award conferred on Ramkumar, it is
beyond doubt that he is an asset to the women's college. It is not in
dispute that other male lecturers are allowed to serve in the college
even as on date. Thus, there is no justification to argue that it
being a women's college, Ramkumar has no right to continue there and
that he is to be necessarily transferred a college 18km away from his
 residence.
Citing provisions of Persons with Disabilities (Equal opportunities,
Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 and central
government circulars concerning disabled employees, the judges held
that there was a statutory violation committed by higher education
department while transferring Ramkumar from a college where he was
serving in a safe manner to another college 18km away from his
 residence.
They then set aside both the transfer order and the single judge
 verdict upholding the transfer order.

Re: [AI] Blind stars convention

2014-09-19 Thread mukesh jain
hello,
actually people in my company wanted to know about the detailed
schedule for this event so that they could depute me to atend this
program officially. earlier on several occasions, they had provided me
these kind of chances like attending the techshare india conference,
access india and several workshops/training related to visually
challenged persons. hence, raised the query.

secondly, as this is 3 days program, i thought that there might be the
schedule worked out for the time allotted hence, requested for the
list of the speakers. considering that speakers might be attending
this event from outside the city, their prior timings might have been
reserved for this event.

thirdly, on the first look at it's website as mentioned by you few
days ago, even i red the name of this university i.e. Dr. Ambedkar
University, government body, i thought that since university is
involved in arranging this event, special cl may be availed.
4. in my case, although the program is on week end,, at list two
more days additional have to be borne to attend this program which
goes beyond the week end requiring me to take the personal leabve.
also due to the reason that we do not have any leave on week end
except sunday, i have to take the same leave. hence, desired to take
the special leave.

despite these difficulties, such kind of events are certainly noble
and deserves grand success. best wishes to the entire community
involved in organising this convention.
thank you,

a housewife of the Sangam city.

Writing several other books on her Braille typewriter, book titled,
Narendra Modi-Ek Vayktivav, is yet another contribution of Hardeep
Singh's selfless service for the blind students. I see this book
apolitical as this is a selfless service for those who cannot see Modi
or have a book to read the inspiring incidences from his life, said
Singh. The two chapters of this book talks of disciplined life of our
PM and how these blind students can strive while swimming against the
tide, she added. The book mentions not only about the basic
information about the life of Modi but also of the persons who
inspired him for becoming what he is today. One of the blind student
of the city Supriya said, We have heard so much about our PM and his
life but all from other people, it is good that someone has thought of
us too and written a book on Modi. Hardeep had also written Gita
Saar, Laghu Kavita Sangrah, greeting card and other books in Braille
script. She is also writing the magnum opus of great Hindi litterateur
Hari Vansh Rai Bachchan Madhushala for these blind students.
