Re: [AI] House owner after several talks denied to sell house reasoning blindness.
Hi Sidhant, Great!! You are buying a house. A milestone for any youngster. I am half sure he must have gotten a better deal. Never mind such guys. Move on. But in case you need to do something about it, say like sharing it in media, even for that, I think you should have his ‘no’ reply in writing or in mail. You can still go to media if you have a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding), an agreement signed generally at the time of token payment. And buddy, buying a house was very enriching experience for me too. So invest time and have more than 3 shortlists. You will feel confident to negotiate and won’t feel cheated. Last one, if at all you really want that house only then offer him to do the actual agreement with your dad or bro or anyone. You will still be able to raise funds as a co-applicant. You will know the real reason of the sly fox ) Good luck On 3/17/15, sidnc1986_gmail wrote: > Hi, > > I haven't signed a contract. Re: [AI] 2 Better Than 1? Being A Scribe For A Visually Impaired - Akanksha Mittal.
Systems of examinations should change so that our dependency on other people like scribes would be reduced. For new systems to work our primary/secondary education also has to evolve to being more technology based. VIs not being tech competent cannot be a reason to not use online processes. VIs have to empower themselves. That is a challenge. In the transition period, there would be a number of people who will find the computer/online processes tough. We need to focus on empowerment. -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Vamshi. [AI] House owner after several talks denied to sell house reasoning blindness.
Hi all, I'm currently trying to buy myself a house in Pune. I have my loan sanctioned (pre-aproved). I have been searching properties and visiting them since December 2014. Back in January 2015, I was about to freeze on one but there were broker and owner identity issues. I learnt a few valuable lessons during the first pursute before I backed out of that. Later I kept my search on and tried to find properties directly offered by individuals keeping brokers out of picture this time. I found one property at a very nice location. After talking with the owner and having interacted with him more than a couple of times, both of us (me and the flat owner) agreed on a price. The owner visited my office to verify my authenticity. I showed him my Loan Sanction letters as well. He had a call with the bank representative to get his queries resolved. Today morning he called me up to verify whether I have a blindness certificate and any proof of me being a valid customer of the bank. Before I went to office, I rushed to bank to obtain any sort of identity documents so that I could prove the owner my worth. Ultimately, when I felt I had almost had him convinced, he called me back in afternoon and said that he doesn't want to sell the property as I am blind (his advocate and his son from US suggested him so). This is something I find extremely weird and annoying. If he has another offer better than mine, that's fine. But to put forth my blindness as a reason not to sell the property is not right. I don't want to run behind such a thoughtless individual again. But before I part, I would like to make him realise that it is not a right thing to treat people this way. I am thinking of putting this story in media. Any better ways that all of you can suggest for handling this scenario? Hi, Several intro programming courses start off with Python. It has a pretty simple syntax, and so one can concentrate on the logic (which is far more important than any syntax). before Giving test exam on Computer, visually impaired must trained how to type the answer and read the questions. I heard that for Online Exams also, Visually impaired has to go with Writer to type on Exam. Keep CCTV on exam hall so that, every Problem will solve. Re: [AI] how to install nvda addons
Hi, As stated earlier, Renaming the zip extension to nvda-addon is the best and exact solution. Though not recommended to follow this approach instead of renaming; just for the knowledge, there is another workable method for advance users. 1. extract the zip file. 2. copy the extracted folder. 3. Paste the copied folder inside user\appdata\roming\nvda\addons folder. Enjoy! Warning: What ever the method of installation, Please do not installed those nvda addons that are available freely in any web site. It may disturb or harm your system. First be sure the functionality of the said addon and then installed. On 3/16/15, Ashik wrote: > Not something like that. Exactly that. [AI] May be of Interest: Facebook Clarifies Rules on What It Bans and Why
Mark Zuckerberg, chief of Facebook, which is updating its guidelines on acceptable content.Credit Adnan Abidi/ReutersWith 1.39 billion active users worldwide, Facebook's social network is the closest thing we have to a universal communication platform. And people post -- or try to post -- just about everything you can imagine. On Monday, the company will clarify its community standards to give its users more guidance about what types of posts are not allowed on the service. Facebook walks a delicate line when it tries to ban violent or offensive content without suppressing the free sharing of information that it says it wants to encourage. Its audience is vast, with a huge variance in age, cultural values and laws across the globe. Yet despite its published guidelines, the reasoning behind Facebook's decisions to block or allow content are often opaque and inconsistent. For example, the company flip-flopped repeatedly on whether to allow beheading videos on the service before recently deciding to ban them. In December, it blocked a page in Russia that was promoting an antigovernment protest, then allowed copycat pages to stay up. And in October, it created an exception to its requirement that people use their real names on the service when it allowed San Francisco's drag queens to use their stage names while continuing to crack down on others using false names. "We're trying to strike the balance based on the way our community works," Monika Bickert, Facebook's head of global policy management, said in an interview. "The landscape is complicated." The company hopes that more specific explanation of its rules will take some of the mystery out of what it will and will not allow. Terrorist organizations like the Islamic State have long been banned from the service. But supporting or praising groups involved in "violent, criminal or hateful behavior" is also banned, the updated rules say. Threatening people with physical or financial harm, or bullying them by posting items intended to degrade or shame them, is also prohibited. So is anything that encourages suicide or eating disorders. Facebook has always banned pornography and most other nudity, but it is now diving into the nuances. "We remove photographs of people displaying genitals or focusing in on fully exposed buttocks," it says. It also restricts some images of female breasts if the nipple shows, "but we always allow photos of women actively engaged in breast-feeding or showing breasts with post-mastectomy scarring." Photos of paintings, sculptures and other art that depicts nude figures are also fine. The company is for the first time explicitly banning content promoting sexual violence or exploitation, including so-called revenge porn, which it defines as intimate images "shared in revenge or without permission from the people in the images." (Twitter has also updated its rules to forbid revenge porn.) One thing that has not changed: Facebook has no plans to automatically scan for and remove potentially offensive content, Ms. Bickert said. Facebook will still rely on users to report violations of the standards. Ms. Bickert said that the company had review teams working at all hours of the day around the globe, and that every report was examined by one of them before a decision was made. The process can take time -- typically 48 hours on matters of safety, she said. That may not be fast enough for some people in an era where graphic content can go viral in minutes. Twitter, which is a much more public forum, has come under fire from women's advocates and antiterror groups for not responding quickly enough to reports of abusive or violent tweets. But Facebook wants to take into account the full context of a post, Ms. Bickert said. For example, a victim of a violent attack might post images on Facebook as a way of raising public awareness. "Sometimes the best way to share information about atrocities in the world is Facebook," she said. "We recognize that is a very challenging issue." Facebook's rulings can also be appealed. "If a person's account is suspended, those appeals are read by real people who can look into the specifics," she said. Ms. Bickert said that clarifying its rules helped not only Facebook users but also the people who reviewed possible violations to decide what was permissible. "We can only do this if we have objective rules," she said. Governments also ask Facebook to take down posts. In conjunction with the updated community standards, the company plans to publish on Monday its latest transparency report, which discloses country-by-country information on government requests for user data and the removal of content. In the report, Facebook says that in the second half of 2014, it restricted 9,707 pieces of content for violating local laws, up 11 percent from the first half of the year. Of those, India requested the most takedowns, with 5,832, and Turkey was not far behind with 3,624. No content was restricted in the United States b

[AI] NIT Durgapur Faculty post, other PWDs eccept Locomotor disability cannot apply! is it possible to take it to CCPD?
hello all, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur has advertised for filling up faculty posts, including 89 posts of Assistant Professor. I quote the instruction concerning the PWD categories: "Reservation is applicable as per the norms of the Government of India. However, PWD candidates in only the category of Locomotor disability shall be considered." However, I find absolutely no reason to exclude other category of PWDs. The institute has departments of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), Management Studies (MS) and others in which PWDs with Visual impairment can work. And of course, now visually and hearing impaired people have started thriving outstandingly in pure science disciplines also. Hence, the excluding of PWDs with visual impairment appears to be in gross violation of the PWD act itself. I request your opinion on this. I also would like to know if this can be taken to the CCPD and lodged as a complaint against the institute. the application and instruction can be downloaded as a PDF file from the following link, Please refer page 13 for the instruction I have quoted. https://www.dropbox.com/s/a52h23rwv01krur/_FINAL_ADV.pdf?dl=0 -- "THE OPPOSITE OF LOVE IS NOT HATRED, BUT INDIFFERENCE" MURUGANANDAN.K Ph.D Scholar, Department of English, Pondicherry University, puducherry-14 mobile:+919787871008. [AI] Madya Pradesh: Bhopal has highest number of disabled people, Indore second
Bhopal has the highest number of disabled people in Madhya Pradesh, according to Census 2011. Of the total 15.5 lakh disabled population in MP, 84,502 live in Bhopal. Indore comes second with 78,761 disabled people. http://www.hindustantimes.com/bhopal/bhopal-has-highest-number-of-disabled-people-indore-second/article1-1326617.aspx Among the eight categories of disabilities listed in the census, Bhopal district tops the list in five categories -- seeing, hearing, speech, mental retardation and 'other disability'. As for the other three categories, Indore tops in mental illness, Rewa in 'multiple disability', while Satna top the list in movement related disability. The census figures show that the percentage of disabled people in movement (26.08%) and multiple disabilities (8.21%) categories is higher in MP compared to the national average in the two categories, which is 20.28% and 7.89% respectively. In rest of the categories, it is lower than the national level. After Bhopal and Indore, the maximum number of disabled people is in Jabalpur (59,074), Rewa (57,889) and Sagar (52,576). Alirajpur district, with 10,869 disabled people, has the lowest number of disabled people in the state, followed by Datia (12,379), Harda (12,568), Burhanpur (13,032) and Sheopur (13,435). It was for the first time the census collected information about eight types of disabilities. In Census 2001, information was collected about only five types of disabilities. Anil Mudgal from Arushi NGO, which works for the cause of disable people in the state for more than two decades, said that there were various reasons for Bhopal topping the list in most categories. "First, Bhopal district has a large population (over 23.6 lakh) compared to other districts. Then there is more awareness here due to which people are perhaps sharing information here in significant numbers compared to other more backward areas," he said. Mudgal, however, pointed out that most important issue in the state was that all disabled people were not coming forward to get themselves registered in the government surveys due to the social stigma attached to such disclosures. "In the state government's own data on disabled collected through Sparsh Abhiyan, the number of disabled people in the state is 8.25 lakh, while the latest census showed there were over 15 lakh. And from my experience I can say, the actual number must be higher than 15 lakh. The need of the hour is more awareness drives, education and new schemes so that people come forward and share information on various disabilities." -- Avinash Shahi Doctoral student at Centre for Law and Governance JNU Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe.
