Re: [AI] BCA Examination: Accessibility issues
Rajesh Sir, Not all universities allow you to take BCA having finished 12th in Arts. And it is not recommended unless you are too focused and intelligent to cope up to the difficulty of maths and science. Ajeesh: there are couple of policies recognizing the same, and even the examination guidelines contain the same in para 15. You can check the same on CCPD website. -- Amar Jain. Re: [AI] Unique exhibition at the National Museum makes culture accessible for visually-impaired-TheHindu
Excellent initiative!... All organizations in government, corporate and non government organizations at least related to the persons with disabilities should implement accessibility in this way. On 4/26/15, avinash shahi shahi88avin...@gmail.com wrote: 1. The figure of disabled as per 2011 census has wrongly been cited in the article. The Hindu's another article contradicts this (http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/census-reveals-only-marginal-increase-in-the-differentlyabled-population/article5516279.ece). It was not expected from The Hindu, uttterly irresponsible reporting. 2. could anybody on the list share more details of the discussed workshop in the article? I'm sure people may have attended if at all it happened without putting public notice for the stakeholders? On 4/26/15, Rahul Gambhir rahul.gambhi...@gmail.com wrote: Unique exhibition at the National Museum makes culture accessible for visually-impaired It was a heart-warming sight to see the visually-impaired follow a tactile path that was smooth in some places and rough at others where they had to stop, at an exhibition in the National Museum on Friday. There was even a tactile banam (a Santali music instrument) that they could pick up, touch and feel. The visit was organised after a day-long national workshop to discuss and deliberate how museums can be made friendly for people with disabilities (PwDs). Representatives from a number of museums, along with NGOs working with PwDs, discussed best practices from across the world and how they could be implemented in the Indian scenario. The workshop comes two decades after the government passed the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995, and later ratified a 2007 United Nations Convention Declaration that reaffirms all differently-abled persons must enjoy all human and fundamental rights. This includes the right to freely participate in the cultural life of the community, and to enjoy the arts. According to the 2011 Census, India has 27 million differently-abled persons. The participants felt knowing more and enjoying the culture and heritage of the country is one of the essential components of their personal growth. However, their participation in cultural life and enjoyment of arts has been somewhat restricted due to limited sensitisation at cultural institutions. National Platform for Rights of Disabled convener P. Muralidharan said a majority of institutions have yet to either implement affirmative action or were doing it without the spirit. There was a call for museums in the country to popularise the use of Braille, audio systems and tactile graphics to promote cultural experience among PwDs. The National Museum revealed its plans to make its exhibits more accessible to PwDs with the museum opening a tactile gallery this October. The exhibition was set up in collaboration with the National Museum, Unesco and NGO Saksham. Re: [AI] Rajasthan HC Double Bench: Disability not a separate category for quota:
If I strictly restrict this case to the cast which is the central point of giving quota by mixing the disability and the cast together, then I believe its a reasoned judgment. Regards, -- Amar Jain. Re: [AI] Fw: [WeThePwd:1659] Insurance Cover to Disabled Persons
While at the one hand Fin Min recognizes that life insurance is given to all people with disabilities by public as well as private insurers, at the same time it leaves a scope for insurers to take the decisions based on the underwriting policy. Health insurance still remains closed to a large extent. There is a clear need to have risk assessment and claim assessment guidelines in place in conformity with the specific conditions of various disabilities. Anyone on the list in the insurance sector would like to throw light as to how a person with disability's life is categorized as sub-standard etc in terms of the board approved underwriting policies? As these documents are not available for public view. Regards, -- Amar Jain.
