I don't think the Play Store will ever give an older version of WhatsAp? Even
today, it isn't showing any update to the app! My current version of whatsapp
is 2.16.352, update date, November 11. And the version of Eye-D is 3.4.3,
update date, November 26.

  Mujeeb,

The pro / paid version will support a large of languages including Indian
regional languages. We will be rolling out the pro version of the by the
end of Jan 1st week at a very nominal subscription fee.

  Sinoj,

Glad that you found the app helpful, As mentioned earlier the advanced OCR
will have options to save, share and other features which will be included
in the paid / pro version of Eye-D app.

  Vikas,

Thanks for bringing forward the issue. I would still say that there seems
to be some issue with your version of WhatsApp. We checked for the issue
with latest version of Eye-D and WhatsApp everything seems to work
flawlessly without any issue. We even checked this with both JPEG and PNG
files there was slight performance degrade for PNG images which will fix in
  next updates.

  Regards,
  Shaswat

2016-12-06 Thread avinash shahi
How do you know it? 0.5 per cent each is expected to be divided
between totally blind and low-vision categories. I've made a cursory
read on the amendments and asking the biggest question why the
government has not yet specified in clear terms about how the 4 per
cent reservation will be distributed among increased categories in the
proposed Bill. The instances abound where the low-vision have hundred
per cent certificate and the sighted people have low-vision
certificate and they are using the document to sail through in the
government jobs. Government is hellbent in giving certificate but what
about the menace of fake certificates? what does the law say about it?
I don't know. Many states including Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and Uttar
Pradesh have publickly affirmed that they don't want totally blind
people in their offices at any cost. In fact majority of government
offices don't want those who can't talk in their eyes. Where do we go
from here, in hell perhaps. people living in the cities and those
already employed are fortunate ones. and those who've sound family
support system and keep on teaching list that 'something is good than
nothing' will continue to sing the government version song for their
personal goals. They are very much in demand for awards. And they will
continue to play partisan role to be patronized. upcoming times are
not gonna be rosy, be prepared and learn the art to face the bumpy
road from the so called 'normal' and from our own blind friends who
are there to collaborate to make you 'inspirational' and 'role
models'; cause being ordinary is an extraordinary crime if you are
disabled...

it is removed from their website and required to take the matter with CRIS.
however you can still book concession tickets through IRCTC and counters.
further we have to manually calculate estimated concessional fair.

Subject: [AI] concessional base fare enquiry has been removed from
indianrail.gov.in

Dear All,

It has come to my notice that indianrail.gov.in is not showing the
concessional fare enquiry. When I try to view the fare by selecting the
appropriate category from the 'concession' dropdown list, clicking on 'get
fare' button displays the following message:

"the conc is not valid for this date, please try again".

Has indianrail.gov.in removed such fare enquiry from its system or the issue
is temporary, I am unable to figure it out. I am trying to view fare since

Shaswat

[AI] concessional base fare enquiry has been removed from indianrail.gov.in

2016-12-06 Thread Vishnu Ramchandani
Dear All,

It has come to my notice that indianrail.gov.in is not showing the concessional
fare enquiry. When I try to view the fare by selecting the appropriate category
from the 'concession' dropdown list, clicking on 'get fare' button displays the
following message:
"the conc is not valid for this date, please try again".

Has indianrail.gov.in removed such fare enquiry from its system or the issue is
temporary, I am unable to figure it out. I am trying to view fare since past
few days but it shows me the same error. If it has been removed from their
website, then is there any other way to view the concession fare enquiry? Have
you tried to view the concessional fare enquiry from indianrail? If yes, do
post your experience.

Regards,
Vishnu

[AI] News of Interest: Visually challenged girl ‘marries’ Lord Krishna in MP’s Tikamgarh district

2016-12-06 Thread avinash shahi
A 22-year-old visually challenged girl, who has been a staunch devotee
of Krishna since childhood, married an idol of the Hindu god at a
village in Tikamgarh district on Sunday.
http://www.hindustantimes.com/bhopal/visually-challenged-girl-marries-lord-krishna-in-mp-s-tikamgarh-dist/story-DmycTWQHPodJNriM2RhaaJ.html
Shalini’s ‘marriage’ was solemnised according to Bundelkhandi
traditions. The marriage procession reached the bride’s home in Digoda
village, where the ceremony was performed.

According to locals, Shalini has been reading religious scriptures
such as Ramayana, Bhagwat Geeta and playing musical instruments since
childhood. The villagers pay a lot of respect to the woman, as they
believe she possesses some supernatural power.

Shalini’s father Munnalal Bidua, a teacher, told HT that he has two
sons and two daughters. Shalini is visually challenged since birth.
She expressed her desire to marry ‘Lord Krishna’ recently. The parents
didn’t disappoint her and consulted a priest to fulfil the desire of
their daughter.

The marriage was scheduled for December 4, as according to Hindu
calendar it happens to be ‘Vivah Panchmi’. On Saturday, the marriage
rituals like menhdi and sangeet were held. On Sunday, the marriage
procession (baraat) was taken out from a temple with Lord Krishna’s
Laddu Gopal form as the bridegroom. After the marriage, the bride has
plans to continue living at her present home, where she has a separate
room converted into a temple.

Hi sir,

Let’s not debate on the advantages and disadvantages of cash and
without cash payment systems. As an academician, it’s your
responsibility to see the positive side of the fast and ever-changing
society and impart that knowledge to your students. I still remember
that example shared on our own list regarding the introduction of
computers in government organisations. Though there are people who are
happy to have a free lunch at their workplace but there also exists a
bunch of individuals who have achieved spectacular growth in their
careers using the same technology. Go to the office environment of
20/25 years ago and you wouldn’t be able to imagine a blind person at
a post higher than a typist/ telephone operator. According to me,
every big change comes with a pain but the pain is worth it at the
end. I have no intentions of arguing with a senior member but as a
list member I feel that a right message must be given to the younger
generation who considers this list to be the primary source of
information.

So are we getting a better law than the bill we had in February 2014 or a

According to me,
every big change comes with a pain but the pain is worth it at the
end. I have no intentions of arguing with a senior member but as a

generation who considers this list to be the primary source of

Ajay,

The point is well made. But the point to be noted is that millions of blind
people in India are not computer/tech literate. Most banking facilities are
inaccessible and many banks still do not easily provide banking facilities to
blind people. Alongside pushing the cashless system, it is important to empower
the blind individual, and make accessible the tools of the cashless economy and
banks have to start engaging with blind customers. The switch is not quite that
simple. This cashless economy makes it all the more critical that Digital India
becomes accessible.

No it isn’t.
It was 5% in 2014 and we lost 1% to the infighting and the great non strategic

Re: [AI] Big step taken by NAB Delhi to make visually impaired students independent in reading and writing

2016-12-06 Thread George Abraham
Agreed! Any revolution brings with it pain, but in the long run it will be a
major gain. By the time students reach their Post Graduate level, they will be
on top of the technology. Their ability to fit into the professional World will
be that much better. No more stories of scribes backing out at the last minute
or no more cases where the blind student gets a watchman to write for him or
someone is forced to compromise with a scribe who is several years junior. Also
the aligation that scribes are actually writing the exams will also end. Good
initiative. There will be challenges and teething problems but they will get
sorted out. The step is bold to help generate a new generation of employable
skilled blind professionals. Technology in no way stops the use of Braille.
Braille refreshing and Braille print outs can be taken for personal reading and
studies. Regular printouts can be taken when submitting assignments and answers
sheets.

Re: [AI] For Millions of Indians with Disabilities making online payments is tough call

2016-12-06 Thread Chandrashekhar Kulkarni
Dear list memberss,
A very interesting and close to heart topic in the present
circumstances. According to me the problem is more severe for totally
blind persons. Today there is a loud cry for going in for paperless
currency, but has the government really thought about the needs of
differently abled persons or the Hon. Prime Minister and his ministry
really think that Divyang persons have a Divyang which takes them out
of any problems? The Government must think of persons like us not only
from the point of view of accessibility but also from safety and
security.
Sincerely,
C. B. Kulkkarni

*BANGALORE, INDIA:* Booking cabs, buying food and making payments online
seem like they’re just a swipe and a tap away, but for millions of
 Indians
with disabilities, these apps are not designed for them to use.

According to a study conducted by Centre for Internet and Society (CIS)
last month, many of the most-commonly used mobile apps for food
 delivery,
online payments, grocery shopping and transportation were not accessible
 to
people with vision disabilities. The study covered 22 apps.

The 2011 census puts the number of people with disabilities in the
 country
at 26 million, while advocacy groups say the real figure is closer to
 150
million. Last year, India recorded nearly nine billion downloads of
 mobile-based applications last year.

“The national policy for universal electronic accessibility says that
 all
IT products and services should be accessible. However, the government
 is
still unable to implement it. Several government apps are inaccessible,”
said Nirmita Narasimhan, policy director at CIS. CIS’s survey of some
 key
government mobile based applications like My Gov, EPathshala and Prime
Minister Narendra Modi’s official app found them to be severely lacking.
The illiterate, aged and those not proficient in English would also
struggle with the apps, the study found. The guidelines for government
websites laid out accessibility standards in 2009. The 2013 national
 policy
on universal electronic accessibility clearly upholds equal rights
“ensuring that accessibility standards and guidelines and universal
 design
concepts are adopted and adhered to.”

However, most commonly-used apps fail to follow this. All 22 of the apps
studied were privately owned but not all were fully compliant with
universal standards. Of taxi-hailing apps Meru, Ola and Uber, only Uber
 was
completely accessible to the disabled. The others had mis-labelled or
 unlabeled buttons and graphics.

When it came to food delivery, Zomato was the best at replicating the
 user
experience for people with disabilities. Swiggy and Foodpanda were
difficult for new users, and Freshmenu was completely inaccessible.

Hi,

It intirely depends on us if we want to see it half empty or half full.
