Re: [AI] Deleting a GMail account

2009-05-29 Thread Subramani L
Dear Mr. Vishwanathan:

I don't know about you, but I feel most of us have this rather
unpleasant feeling about reading every mail. It's not about who is
sending it; it's about what we can get from the person. I guess that's
what happens if you are tired of seeing thousands of mails from a dozen
groups. As a result, you choose whose mail you need to read in order for
you to get information and how best to skip mails that are not likely to
inform you. It's a guess and sometimes in this process we end up
deleting a few of them with questions like that of your's.

I am sure you would agree that reading each and every mail, in spite of
the fact that they are all not spam, needs considerable energy and
effort. So at the back of the mind we unconsciously decide whose mail we
should read and skip the rest. And we, rather I, must confess that we
end up hurting a few in the process. I do have one more confession to
make: that I am not a person with great wealth of technical information
and so I naturally fall short of answering those with technical queries.
That is why I asked you not to take these things personally. It does
hurt if your query is not answered -which, by the way, has happened to
me as well- but that shouldn't discourage us from both asking questions
and answering a few ourselves. Hope this makes sense to you and before I
sign off, my appologies for having made you feel this way.

Subramani

Hello,
For past several days, Gmail has come up with a very incredible feature
on

its home page, which you can find towards the end of the page. This
feature
allows the Gmail users to monitor the list of the IP addresses along with
the type of logging -- whether through web, IMAP or POP. one can strictly
monitor the account activity and determine as to whether your account is
being operated from somewhere else other than the IP addresses you use.

It could well be, since the addresses for which I said to have sent
messages --acording to those mail delivery notifications-- doesn't sound
familiar. In fact, that is what is making me suspect if someone has
secretly checking or using my email, though I am nearly sure I haven't
left my password anywhere.

Re: [AI] Deleting a GMail account

2009-05-25 Thread Roopakshi Pathania

Geetha,

This is a bit puzzling.
Why would any sensible hacker use your email account to receive her job related
emails?

1. You could easily trace the person through the company.
2. These do not seem to be the kind of prank messages hackers usually send.

Have you tried to contact the company?

Even I have a similar experience. When I see my spam mails, there are
a few mails which are sent from my mail. As everyone knows, one such
mail reached Access India with the words "[AI]" in the subject line.

Then after I have changed my password, no mail has gone to AI though
there are many spam mails which are sent from my mail ID, most of them
being advertising mails.

I am still continuing with the same mail ID.

Is there any problem?

Hello all,

It appears that my GMail account has been hacked. I see messages sent to

this account which indicate that I have been hired by an IT firm in
Bangalore. I see messages inviting me to team meetings and asking me to
process resumes. Strangely though, the password still remains the same.

This does not impact me as I do not use it as my primary account. Still,
I
would like to delete this account. Is it possible to delete this
account?
Will my account be safe if I just change the password? I had not checked

mail sent to this account for six months. The hacking appears to have
stopped in March. Does this mean that Google introduced measures that
made
it difficult for hackers to access accounts?

Thanks,
Geetha

2009-05-25 Thread Subramani L
It could well be, since the addresses for which I said to have sent
messages --acording to those mail delivery notifications-- doesn't sound
familiar. In fact, that is what is making me suspect if someone has
secretly checking or using my email, though I am nearly sure I haven't
left my password anywhere.

You can delete your gmail account. You will need to login to google and turn
off gmail.

However, again, are you sure that your account has been broken into?

Hi, they are just spammers sending you messages in the hope that you would
reply. If you change the password, that will not stop these messages from
infiltrating your inbox. To put it more correctly, no one has your password
or have access to your inbox, its just spammers sending you messages in the
hope that you would reply, letting them know that your address is valid to
send you more spam.
You could delete the account if you like, but not sure how its being done
since I've never had cause to do so.
Perhaps someone from this knowledgeable group will be of more assistance
than me.

na, not really, just because you see numerous mails having been sent from
your ID, does really not mean your account is hacked. the fact that one such
mail reached access may really mean so.
you, may like to go through the following artical on spam & may have
a lot of clarity.

Is there any problem?

geetha,
i suggest, you should get in there to your account, change your security
questions, change the alternative email ID, & of course password. am sure,
all of it would be taken care of. as regards the other things such as,
emails inviting you to other team meetings & so on, you might just lke to
see if these messages have an unsub link at the bottom, also you might like
to click on such messages as spam & may even like to train your spam filters
to tackle all the junk.

   hope this comes in handy.
