reducing domain valuse

2001-06-26 Thread Ofer

Hi all,

The following is my domain policy

Versions Data Exists 14
Versions Data Deleted 2
Retain Extra Versions 90
Retain Only Version 30

I want to reduce the policy domain number to the following domain
policy.

Versions Data Exists 5
Versions Data Deleted 3
Retain Extra Versions 30
Retain Only Version 15

that because I don't have enough space on my library.
i do that I would like to know how much space on the library I will
gain by doing that
Is there any way to know how much space will be available on the library
after that changes ?
or how much space will be dropped after that changes ?

Thanks in advance.

can't over the 30 GB on tape.

2001-07-01 Thread Ofer

Hi all

I have adsm 3.1 on aix 4.2.1 with DLT library. On the library I have 3
stgpool NT,UNIX and Oracle.
After having a space problem on the library we decided to upgrade the
20/40GB tape drive
to 35/70GB tape drive and start labeling all the volumes.
The problem is that in the unix stgpool I can see 35G capacity on the
volume some time more then that, but on the NT stgpool the capacity on
the volume can't get over the 30GB per volume with status full & pct
98%.

The IBM guy's told me to change the drive format from fromat=drive to
fomat=dlt35,
but this didn't help.
I told them that the problem is only on the NT stgpool there is no
problem on the unix stgpool.

Thanks in advance

content tables Vs occupancy tables.

2001-07-11 Thread Ofer

 Hi all,

I have a 100 DLT cartridges library with 35/70GB capacity each.
This is like 7TB approximately data on the library if the compression
utilization is like 100%( which is not the case).

In addition, there are like 37 cartridges with scratch status.

I would like to know how much data I have on my tsm server so I have
ran the following 2 select q.

'select node_name,sum(file_size) as sum_file_size from contents group
by
 node_name'

'select node_name,sum(PHYSICAL_MB) as sum_phys_mb from occupancy group
 by node_name'

and I got the following result

9,030,520 MB from the contents table

2,422,690 MB from the occupancy table

From the occupancy table I have a reasonable number that I can live
with
but the values from the contents are bigger then my library with a 100%

 compression.

what is the explanation for that number?.

I have 9TB on a library(Content Table) while the Maximum capacity of
library is 7TB ( Not to mention that I have sum scratch cartridges on
the library ).

 I appreciate your prompt reply.

 All the Best,

Ofer

Re: content tables Vs occupancy tables.

2001-07-11 Thread Ofer

Hi Richard.

First, thanks for the quick answer :-),
Thus I need to asume from my select results, that the real size of the
backups in the library is taken from the occupancy table?

which is a reasonable number 2.5TB, and if its the only way to know what is the real
size of
my library?

Novell restore performance.

2001-08-21 Thread Ofer

Hi All,

I have TSM 4.1.2 on NT box With 3494 library. The TSM Server have no
more then 20 clients.
The performance on the TSM usually is good.
if I am restoring a small nt file the restore is taking no more then 3
minutes which is very nice.
My problem is on my novell box.
Will I am restoring a file( about 3mb file size ) from the TSM server
this process take about 17 minute.
I assumed that this was the time for the 3494 to search for the file on
the cardrig,
but after I checked the q mount I have nothets that the mount for the
cardrig start after about 14 minutes.

Firs think that cam in mind is that the system querying the database in
that time, but I have monitored the system
and there was no CPU or IO utilization more then usual.

Why the 3494 shuttle is mount the cardrig after such along time?
Is there any way to tell TSM to make the mount more quickly ?

Thanks in advise
Ofer Ccc.

Re: TCP Failair on SQL TDP.

2001-08-22 Thread Ofer

Hi Walter,

I solved the problem, but it wasn't an SQL TDP problem it was a bad Ethernet card.
On my campus I have to communication segment own for the production and own for the
TSM backups.
When i tried to make backup throw the backup segment ( 192.X.X.X ) I gut TCP/IP
connection failure.
but if I did the backup throw the production (172.X.X.X) segment The backup was
completed successfully.
so I have replaced the Ethernet Card( 192.X.X.X ) on the client box and the problems
was solved.

to convinced the network guys that the problem was on the network by creating a 1GB
file and ftp
that file to the TSM from the SQL server. the ftp was unsuccessful.( connection was
closed after 100MB ).

By the way there ware no massage in the system event viewer regarding com or
tcpip/ip error.
but my gus was good the com interface was bad.

check out bunch of cartridges on scallar 1000 library

2001-10-31 Thread Ofer

Hi All,

Im Running TSM 3.7.4 on Aix machine, and i also have an ADIC Scalar 1000
attached to the Aix machine with 4 scsi channels.
The Scalar 1000 have a Cartridge mailbox the can contain 12
cartridges,my drives in the TSM are defined as scsi drives,
My Problem is that i want to checkout a "bunch" of cartridges every time
(lets say at least 12), insted to run one by one and reply the TSM
server
to checkout the cartridge,
I read in the book and i saw that i need to define the drive as an ACSLS
drive, My question is what is the ACSLS number that i need (1-64),
should i
need to
add any software to the server, and how should i do it.

update to ACLS Library.

2001-11-01 Thread Ofer

HI All,

I want to be able to check out a range of cartridges from my library.

'checkout libvolume mylibrary VOLRange=tape01,tape10'

I read that This parameter only applies to automated cartridge system
library software. (ACSLS library)

so I would like to update my library to be an acsls library.
in the 'help update library' command i found that
I need to supply an ACSID number. like the following example

'update library acslslib acsid=1'

to get the acsid I exec q acs like I in the documentation on my system
and got nothing.
I know that my library support this capability.

Where can I get the ACSid number ?.
Is that information is in the TSM or in the library documentation?.
Do I have to install additional drivers/software to my operating system
or to my tsm?

the 'help update library' command says .

ACSID

Specifies the number of this STK library assigned by the ACSSA

(Automatic Cartridge System System Administrator). This can be a
number

from 1 to 64. Issue QUERY ACS on your system to get the number for
your

library ID. See your STK documentation for more information.

do you have any idea what the are talking about?.

backup to disk stg vs tape stg.

2002-01-09 Thread Ofer
Title: ssignetscape

Hi All,

I am running TSM 4.1 on aix server and DLT scallar 1000 library.
I have a critical client that I would like to backup directly to the tape
stgpool.
The performance in that method are 8M/S network and 70K/S aggregated transfer
rate.
I would like to improve that performance to be at list 3M/S aggregated.
I tried to work with the following performance parameters.

SELFTUNETXNSIZE
SELFTUNEBUFPOOLSIZE

but with no success.

I tried to backup the same client to a disk storage pool and the aggregated
ware something like 4M/S.
it's look like a performance problem but I don't know what parameter to change.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there

As William says, TSM does not offer the LAN-free backup to a diskpool...

except if you are using IP over FC (over your SAN), and moreover you
"only" need a licence for a "Managed system by LAN".

Upgrade NSM 3.7 to TSM4.1

2001-05-14 Thread Ofer Nachom

Hi all,

I have NSM model-type 3466-C10 installed in my campus currently running
5765-D27 (Network Storage Manager V3.1). As you all know this NSM
machine is a solution package from IBM includes the hardware and
software as a bundle.

Although we are entitled to receive the upgrade to 5765-E66 (Network
Storage Manager V4.1) under subscription. I would like to know if I can
upgrade the 5765-D27 to TSM 4.1 without any known problems?
specially on DATA BASE level of these two products??

Regards,

full backup question.

2001-06-18 Thread Ofer Nachom

Hi all,

Will I am restoring a big amount of data the restore take allot of time
( 1 GB per 3 hour ).
I assume it's because of the incremental backup which store the data on
several tape.
If I will make in every Tuesday a full backup, is that will improve my
restore time ?
or the only solution for a good restore time in tsm is collocation ?

Thanks

don't understand the select output

2001-06-20 Thread Ofer Nachom

Hi There,

I am trying to get sum information about the client capacity on the TSM
Server.
I am executing the following command.
" select sum(file_size) from contents where node_name like 'VOYAGER'
"
and getting that following result.

Unnamed[1]
--
292017475172

The real capacity on "VOYAGER" is 27 GB.

It's seems to me that Voyager equipped 290GB of space on my library.

so I checked a single file on the TSM server for VOYAGER with the
following command.

"select * from contents where node_name like 'VOYAGER'"

and compared it to the real file on the client.
the size of that file is 3 time grater on the TSM server compared to
the file on the client.

why is the values from the tsm are grater from the client?. Is that
because of the number of the generation ?.
Is the client voyager rely equipped almost 300 GB on my library ?.

Thanks in advance.

TDP for Domino - Brick level backup?

2001-07-18 Thread Ofer vaknin

Hi

Does TDP for Domino can do a brick level backup?

Re: TDP for Domino - Brick level backup?

2001-07-18 Thread Ofer vaknin

Tivoli Data Protection for Lotus Domino provides two types of database
backup—incremental and selective—and a log archive function. Incremental
backup provides a conditional backup function that creates a full on-line
backup of Domino databases, when necessary. The specific conditions that
determine when a new backup is necessary vary depending on whether the
database is logged or not. Selective backup unconditionally backs up the
specified databases, unless they are excluded from backup through exclude
statements. When archival logging is in effect, changes to logged databases
can be captured in between full backups, by archiving the transaction log.

let me change my Q ,Does selective backup is brick level
(brick level backup - most common with MS Exchange ,backup/restore of one
inbox and not all the DB)

What do you mean by "Brick Level Backup"?

If the question is "Does TDP for Domino can do a document level backup?" the
answer is No. The behaviour has changed from Notes Version 4.x to 5. The TDP
for Domino is using the Domino transaction functionality to perform
"incremental" backups, which means that you have to restore the DB to a
temporary location, apply the transactions and copy the documents to the
original database.

3494 define library in Win2K

2001-02-06 Thread Ofer Nachom

Hi There,

I have installed TSM 4.1.2 on win/nt2k and I need to connect the TSM
server to a 3494 tape library.I have 2 x 3590 tape drive on that library
connected to the TSM server through a SCSI Diff interface and another
serial cable connecting the library to the TSM server from the serial
cable.
I have installed the drivers to the nt2k with the drivers i have down
loaded from the ibm ftp site index.storsys.ibm.com/devdrv/win2000.
the driver ware installed successfully. I checked the ntutils and the
open close device test was successful.
the next thing that I need to do is to define the library from the tsm
command line.
( I defined the dsmserv.opt with enablelibrary3494 = yes )
and try to execute the define library command from tsm command line

define library my3494 libtype=scsi device= x x x x ..

but I only had the drives mt0.0.X in the NT OS, I couldn't find the
library lb0.0.0.1 or something in the os .

so what do i need to define in the define library from the tsm.

is the serial port is the device ?

Managed Libraries - when TSM backup to a large library (exm. LTO library up
to 40 slots and/or 3 drives u do not need this license above u need !, u can
see the supported library in the web and indication if u need this license
for a particular library or not !)

Library Sharing - when u connect TSM to backup in SAN u need this license
for 1. sharing the library with several TSM server in SAN 2. LAN-FREE &

Hi Nick,

'Library Sharing" license is just what it sounds like if youare sharing
a single library, say between TSM servers.

'Managed Library" is need for the those libraries that are listed as
requiring the *A/E* feature on the Tivoli supported device page (
http://www.tivoli.com/support/storage_mgr/requirements.html ).
Generally this is for libraries with more than 3 drives and/or more
than 40 slots. There are some exception so just go by whether it has
the *A/E* in the notes section, if so then you must purchase the
'Managed Library" license as well.

I hope that clears it up for you.
