[AFMUG] Back from the dead.....

2019-03-04 Thread Adam Moffett

I did not expect this one.

Hello Adam,

Ray Sewell here. I wanted to let you know that Trango Systems sold off
its assets to a new company. The new company is Trango Networks, LLC.
Trango Networks will continue manufacturing the Orion/Lynx series of
licensed microwave radios and providing support for most of the other
products.  We are also actively developing new products.

We are going to manufacture the Orion series. We’ll start with the
Apex Orion which is our all outdoor system that runs on -48 Vdc via
POE or Direct DC power.  It supports 1 copper and 1 fiber Ethernet
port.  It is also capable of XPIC (Cross Polarization Interference
Cancellation), 8 MB programmable packet buffer, Multilayer header
compression to increase capacity, ultra-low latency & jitter in all
ACM modes, Very high power and 500 Mbps FDX throughput on a 56 MHz
channel.  Up to 761 Mbps FDX Layer 2 using Header Compression.  The
split design Giga Orion will be shipping by May.

Some of the qualities that make us stand out from the competition.

1) High Quality US designed and manufactured products

2) Factory Direct - no middleman.

3) Ultra-Fast lead times for products.  Much is in stock or less than
2-week lead time for common bands/antenna sizes.

4) Pre-sales support- Free Path analysis, frequency availability analysis.

5) One stop shop for accessories, licensing, coordination.

6) Link Configuration based on customer inputs at ship time with box
labeling

7) Online support ticketing, live person tech support and engineer
escalation for tough problems.

8) Fast RMA turn times (< 2weeks).

9) Free software upgrades and technical data via Trango Support portal

10) Competitive pricing and warranty.

Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Re: [AFMUG] OT New electric car

2019-03-04 Thread Robert
There are nano-carbon anode battery experiments from 2-3 years ago that
claimed just that kind of charging density. Could they have gotten
that to actual into production? The word out here is that the Tesla
plant is in the process of moving to the next generation of battery
production.

On 3/4/19 5:41 PM, Mathew Howard wrote:

Desten is cagey with details about its batteries, but claims
"exceptionally high charge rates, 10C or higher," as well as power
density in excess of 1600 watts per kilogram. The company says its cells
can be fast charged and discharged 5,000 times before they drop to a
capacity of 80 percent, suggesting excellent longevity particularly if
the cars are charged slowly overnight most of the time."

Definitely not a mistake... who knows whether or not they can actually
do it, but there appears to be a few different companies claiming
they're making batteries that can handle 10C charge rates. I think
they're just using the battery manufacturer's charging claims, and not
actually expecting to be able to charge a real car that fast.

If they can make it work, I could see them building something like that
just to show off, but there's no way they're going to let a normal person
use it.

Brace arms are attached with regular bolts. U bolts hold the vertical

and so were adjustable to make up for different angles/distances between
studs, must have seen that wrong...

Adjustable length support arms help when you are trying plumb the mast/hit
a stud.

Roof trusses are sometimes 2' on center. (at least on my house they are)

Baltic has an add-on tray that bolts onto an existing non-pen mount to

I've added that tray onto a Rohn non-pen just by drilling a couple of new
bolt holes in the corners of the Rohn. Otherwise the dimensions were
close enough. On a Rohn the mast ended up not plumb, but on a shallow
pitched roof it was good enough. If you bought Baltic's whole assembly
then you'd have a u-slot to adjust a 3rd leg on the nonpen mount to bring
it to plumb.

https://www.balticnetworks.com/maxxwave-adjustable-2in-non-penetrating-roof-mount.html

I'm not saying you should or shouldn't do a ridge mount, but these
products do already exist at decent prices and I can't picture what
differentiation there would really be.
Maybe yours would be more expensive than Baltic, but more rugged and
cheaper than Baird?

Are people asking for a flat roof non pen, or a peak (ridge) mount? It’s
not hard to find a good, relatively inexpensive flat roof non pen (Rohn

a peak mount?

Baird makes nice ones, but they aren’t cheap.

I don't think it was a matter of misinterpretation, there are lots of
different websites saying "under five minutes"... they can't all be making
that mistake.

I suppose it could be something like it's possible to charge these mystery
batteries that fast, but it isn't actually going to happen in a real car.

They announced it today as the Supercharger V3. Capable of up to 350KW, but
would "typically" run in the 200KW range (give or take). To take advantage
of the higher charge rates, the vehicle battery packs will need to be
enhanced to allow them to take that amount of power.

Again, I think they meant about 5 hours to charge, not just under four minutes,
lol!

OK, within the realm of posibilities.

4:40 minutes to 80% battery capacity.

So 280 seconds or .077 hours to dump 83 kWh into the battery.
83/.077=1067 kW

So you have to have 1 Megawatt power source to charge?
2223 amps of 480 service.

I am doubting this.

And texture!

Later in life, we moved to another ranch that had a similar reservoir. My
brother moved back home after being a city dweller for many years. One morning
noticed that there was something fuzzy in the water. Hair. Mouse hair.

He drained the reservoir that afternoon and scrubbed with bleach. So we had
bleach tasting water for several weeks and the rodents had bleach water to
float upon for a while...

Here is a quick sketch of the optical tap split we use. Each
handhole uses a custom ratio FBT splitter to peel off a small bit
of light from the mainline fiber, and then a normal PLC to break
that up further to the required number of customers. If you are at
all familiar with CATV this is essentially the same thing that
coax taps do, just with light. The appropriate FBT ratio has to be
picked at each handhole, and it steps up in % as you go down the
line.

You can chain as many as 15-20 of these taps in a line using just
one mainline strand, depending on split ratio, distance, and GPON
optical budget. We run ZTE using class C++ OLT optics and run this
system out to about 30km and still can split to cover about 20
houses over a mile of road.

We normally run rural mainline direct buried. When your mainlin
cable is 18 cents a foot  35 cents for duct just blows the budget
plus it adds another work step blowing or pulling the cable into
the duct.

We do fiber in 5-20 houses per mile areas. You have to get the
cost down as much as possible. We plow most of our mainline direct
buried, often use a 12-count tonable flat drop as mainline on side
roads.  With the right GPON splitting topology you can feed
several hundred houses on a 12-count fiber. If the area is rural
enough to not have a lot of paved driveways you can cover a lot of
ground fast plowing. Cheap electronics like ZTE or UBNT.
Everythign fusion spliced because splicing labor is cheaper for us
than the fancy connectorized systems.

Permitting cost will vary by area, our costs are $500 for the
first mile and $50 per additional mile, one time fee.

Even if I get grant funding to run it. How are those of you doing
it making the ongoing ROI when you might have 5 houses each mile?

Pole rentals are $15-$17/ea per year.

Is trenching normally something you pay the state/county per
mile?  Per once permit?

Does anyone know of a company I can consult with that will design
and engineer FTTH networks?

Chuck - are you still accepting folks to come down with you for a

If you are in an empty ROW, what happens if you put up your own poles? Is this
now a source of potential revenue, or do you still own them? Is there a
recurring permit fee to place poles?

  Chris,

We went with standard 1x2 and 1x4 splitters. If I remember, I'll post our
diagram when I get to the office on Monday.

Here is a quick sketch of the optical tap split we use. Each handhole
uses a custom ratio FBT splitter to peel off a small bit of light from the
mainline fiber, and then a normal PLC to break that up further to the required
number of customers. If you are at all familiar with CATV this is essentially
the same thing that coax taps do, just with light. The appropriate FBT ratio
has to be picked at each handhole, and it steps up in % as you go down the
line.

You can chain as many as 15-20 of these taps in a line using just one
mainline strand, depending on split ratio, distance, and GPON optical budget.
We run ZTE using class C++ OLT optics and run this system out to about 30km and
still can split to cover about 20 houses over a mile of road.

We normally run rural mainline direct buried. When your mainlin cable
is 18 cents a foot 35 cents for duct just blows the budget plus it adds
another work step blowing or pulling the cable into the duct.

 Chris,
I would love to have you post a schematic diagram of your low
count PON system.
Do you use duct or direct burial?

We do fiber in 5-20 houses per mile areas. You have to get the
cost down as much as possible. We plow most of our mainline direct buried,
often use a 12-count tonable flat drop as mainline on side roads. With the
right GPON splitting topology you can feed several hundred houses on a 12-count
fiber. If the area is rural enough to not have a lot of paved driveways you can
cover a lot of ground fast plowing.Cheap electronics like ZTE or UBNT.
Everythign fusion spliced because splicing labor is cheaper for us than the
fancy connectorized systems.

Permitting cost will vary by area, our costs are $500 for the
first mile and $50 per additional mile, one time fee.

Even if I get grant funding to run it. How are those of you
doing it making the ongoing ROI when you might have 5 houses each mile?

Pole rentals are $15-$17/ea per year.

Is trenching normally something you pay the state/county
per mile? Per once permit?

Does anyone know of a company I can consult with that will
design and engineer FTTH networks?

Chuck - are you still accepting folks to come down with you
for a week to learn your ways of fiber?

[AFMUG] OT sorry for the bragging

2019-03-04 Thread chuck
But my oldest son made some of the parts of the dragon capsule that docked at
the ISS. Closest I ever got to any of that was building scale models of the
Saturn V when I was a kid. Exciting times to be alive. --
