[AFMUG] fiber design and permitting

2019-03-08 Thread TJ Trout
how are most of you guys getting your design on paper for pulling permits?
I'm assuming if I design a plant layout on a napkin I need professional
plans showing ROW location, proposed cable location, depth, streets, etc
then you take that to the local building department and pull a permit?

For rural plowing, do I need a drill to cross side streets and driveways or
an I get away with a pneumatic missile ?

Re: [AFMUG] PPPoE

2019-03-08 Thread Adam Moffett
I was playing with an example from the Wiki.  Looks like it dynamically
creates a dhcp6 server instance on the server end of the PPPoE tunnel
and makes a prefix delegation to the client.  The example didn't include
ipv4, but I assume that v4 address gets assigned by PPP as normal.  Is
that the gist?

I also have dual-stack v4/v6 in production on PPPoE with Mikrotik as
concentrators - works great. Few gotchas that aren't intuitive, but
nothing crazy.

Nope you can run PPPoE in a VLAN
Yes you can simply dual-stack with PPPoE, it’s the simplest method to do so.
At the same time no problem.

I haven't done much with PPPoE.

For those of you who have, do you generally try to carry L2 back to one central
PPPoE server?  Or do you sprinkle PPPoE servers around at each tower?

Can you have redundant PPPoE servers somehow?

Is there any reason I can't carry PPPoE inside a VLAN?

Can you run dual stack with PPPoE?  It looks like a Mikrotik PPPoE server can
assign v6 addresses, but I'm wondering if it can do both v4 and v6 at the same
time.

Anything else a newb should do or not do?

Re: [AFMUG] OT new electric car

2019-03-08 Thread Darin Steffl
I've got a Model 3 performance as my daily driver. Autopilot too.

Best car I've ever driven and owned. Faster than my Camaro ZL1 plus some
Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche cars I've driven.

I highly recommend a Tesla. The car gets frequent updates every 4-6 weeks
with new features and improvements to autopilot. Match 15, they'll release
an update that gives 5% more power to the motors. The car was 0 to 60 in
3.5s when I bought in August and now they have it down to 3.2s with
updates.

Freaky going that fast without an engine scream. Beautiful exterior.

[AFMUG] need headphone cable with slim plug to fit 450b mid gain

2019-03-08 Thread Ken Hohhof
What are people doing to get a headphone cable to fit on these? I had an
installer complain the jack is too close to body of the SM and so I checked
and he's right, unless you have a slim plug.

I can find some M-F extension cables on Amazon from Startech or Parts
Express, but the reviews say they are flaky or don't last. My install guy
says that's probably inherent with any slim style plug. The short Cables To
Go extension cables I've been ordering definitely do not have slim plugs.

I've seen people with smartphone headphones that have very slim plugs at the
end of the cable, but they seem to be 4-conductor not stereo, I assume the
4th wire is for a microphone.

I've chosen to have PPPoE servers at each tower because I'm routed
and already have a router there, but centralized or routed, doesn't
matter - pros and cons to both.
I also have dual-stack v4/v6 in production on PPPoE with Mikrotik as
concentrators - works great. Few gotchas that aren't intuitive, but
nothing crazy.

I haven't done much with PPPoE.

For those of you who have, do you generally try to carry L2 back to one central PPPoE server?  Or do you sprinkle PPPoE servers around at each tower?

Can you have redundant PPPoE servers somehow?

Is there any reason I can't carry PPPoE inside a VLAN?

Can you run dual stack with PPPoE?  It looks like a Mikrotik PPPoE server can assign v6 addresses, but I'm wondering if it can do both v4 and v6 at the same time.

Anything else a newb should do or not do?

Yes, we carry L2 back to central PPPoE servers. You can simply have multiple
PPPoE servers listing on the L2 network if you want redundancy.

Dual stack appears to work with Mikrotik PPPoE servers, but I never tried
putting it into production, because the ePMP's PPPoE implementation doesn't
support IPv6 yet... I'm pretty sure I did have it working with UBNT clients and
a MikroTik PPPoE server though (I assume it would work with a Mikrotik client
too).

[AFMUG] PPPoE

2019-03-08 Thread Adam Moffett

I haven't done much with PPPoE.

For those of you who have, do you generally try to carry L2 back to one
central PPPoE server?  Or do you sprinkle PPPoE servers around at each
tower?

Can you have redundant PPPoE servers somehow?

Is there any reason I can't carry PPPoE inside a VLAN?

Can you run dual stack with PPPoE?  It looks like a Mikrotik PPPoE
server can assign v6 addresses, but I'm wondering if it can do both v4
and v6 at the same time.

My main interest in Tesla is the autopilot feature. I admit I'm a
distracted driver so I think would

2019-03-08 Thread Caleb Knauer
1440 hours is 60 days. That's a demo mode runtime counter too, not a
calendar timer.

It's extremely clear that you're in violation mode, annoyingly so. Go
to the interface manager and turn off whatever eth ports you're not
using, that's usually what triggers when you boot up originally.

Normally it takes 24 hours or so to process the keys. If you're in a
hurry you can put in a support ticket and they'll run them pretty
quick. I just did that today and they got it knocked out after an
hour or two.

It is going so fast that the Condux footage meter is only registering about
half the footage.
Not sure if something is out of adjustment or if the MCU cannot count that
fast.

I'd love to have one of these, the $35K version is probably a bit too
stripped down for my taste though - and the $7K upcharge for the advanced
autopilot software, ouch.

Correct.

I expected the SuperStinger to be all busted up also, not from leaving the
TV tower, but its arrival on the ground.

I should have told the installer to just slip a new case on the SM and put
it back up, right?

Actually, he was able to find a different tower where we had LOS at 5 GHz.

900 MHz is useless now anyway due to smartmeters.

I will give them credit for standardizing the tools you need for assembly and
installation, if you have a 13mm wrench and a 5mm hex key you’re probably good
to go. I think stuff with ground screws maybe takes a 10mm wrench.

Of course I got eye rolls from installers when I told them they’d need a hex
key. A METRIC hex key. And you really need a bit for your cordless drill
unless you’ve got all day.

+1 to this, make them do it in real life/practice. If it is tower gear, make
them wear a harness and do it a couple feet above ground. Ideally put a big

Do certain keys cause a "violation" but not others?

Demo mode lets you do whatever you want with no restrictions, like
007's license to kill.

Violation is if you turn on a feature you don't have a key for.

Re: [AFMUG] Cambium radomes - is there a trick to popping them on?

2019-03-08 Thread Josh Luthman
+1 to this, make them do it in real life/practice. If it is tower gear,
make them wear a harness and do it a couple feet above ground. Ideally put
a big ass fan and some water behind it.
