UDP BW Test at 700MB from the RB1100X2 to the X86

I have a product called "warm board" as sub flooring. It is 7/8" thick
plywood with aluminum sheeting bonded to one side. It has channels for my
radiant heating system. It is also a very good RF shield.

My Calix 844E is usable throughout the whole house, but it has some weak
areas.
I am trying a router from IgniteNet that Harold sent me. I thought it was
not as good, but after downloading an app that will give me wifi
signals in
dBm, it is showing 2-3 dB hotter than the Calix in the areas I have
tested.

So far, I am sticking with one AP for the whole house.

I have a customer with a "trendy" home that has concrete floors, three
floors.

One AP isn't doing very well to reach the entire house.

They use Apple, so I'm thinking buying a bunch of refurbished Airport
Extreme units and plugging them in on each floor via Ethernet.

I know it's not mesh, but I don't think Mesh is going to work at all
through

concrete.

I see this as the best option for them.

Any other opinions?

Had one last week. Of course, had to be the only non-gel tape cable
running up the tower. I see the ethernet link suddenly start flapping.
Bounce the MikroTik port. Nope. Log into the SiteMonitor, the
SyncInjector port shows it's using about 400mA. Seems normal, but
wait, the other sectors aren't consuming that much. I knew right then
and there what it was. I get to the site and it's sizzling, rj45 all
burnt up, but the radio is still powered up and transmitting, just no
ethernet link. SyncInjector port didn't trip, obviously because the
fixed 2A limit wasn't reached. Lost nothing other than the GigE-APC.
Stripped the cable, put a new Rj45 on it without the jacket in the
plug, tied it to the rack post, put a coupler and a patch cable in
place of the APC, plugged it all back in and left. Not even any
ethernet errors with the water in the cable.

AFAIK, CMMs and LMG CTMs have always had port protection. Dumb POE
injection without over-current protection.. been there, done that.
In-line suppressors or not, many radios these days are coming with
surge suppression built in, like 450 APs. Methinks it's a fundamental
design issues that Mr. Netonix should revise.

Yeah. We accidentally hooked up an AF24 through a Cambium surge

2017-04-03 Thread Mitch Koep

Be careful and disconnect the side going out of the building

DO NOT clip in and use both sides of the pair you choose

Think of it as a HOME run cat5

From one device directly to the other

You can pull bridging clips and connect to the 66 or 110 on each side

Yes, These devices work great I installed them for years (another life
before wireless)

High noise is usually caused by outdoor plant side of the pair you choose

or can be run too close to lighting or electrical

You can use a butt set and see if it is noisy after you isolate the pair you

want to use.

Found this chart on Wikipedia. Looks like 30a is a larger channel
with the same tx power. So just like with wireless, you would
increase the power density on your channel by using the smaller
channel size, and you'd eliminate at least a couple db worth of noise
Seems to me if I didn't need the throughput then my connection would
be a little more robust on the smaller channel.

If it's an old system, it's very possible there's nothing
desirable like authentication/encryption - it may just be "turn on
the sirens if you see any signal on the frequency of 155.555mhz"
Anyone with some RF knowledge, a $300 SDR (HackRF One) and a $50
amateur radio flea market "2 meter band" amplifier could blanket a
city with such a signal.

I?ve largely ignored this list in the past two months due to
high noise threshold. I still don?t care what Trump did today
unless he has dropped packets or routing issues.

There is so much junk volume, and since I receive digest
format email, I can?t redirect OT: subjects to /dev/null.
Individual emails would kill my inbox altogether. I may write
a regex everyone can use to redirect about 5 senders to
/dev/null.

Sad that the noise is killing the list for the sake of a few
people who won?t shut up or stay on topic. They should go
grab a beer together and leave us alone so network operators
can solve real issues.

providers, but dealing with them is like trying to pull teeth on a
Great White Shark and the bill has been creeping up for the last 3
years. $100 her. 5% there. Suddenlink is the other provider, and
my other provider, and they are rock solid with service and price

I got a quote from Cogent for bandwidth out here and then got a
message about them not being about to cross LATA boundaries.

I am sure some of you have encountered this before and might has

nobody ever ever ever touched one single wire on the block ever

But that never happens, techs get the wrong wires when

I've seen RJ45 jacks that plug right onto punchdown blocks. I'm
about to convert this wiring to Ethernet for VoIP. Can I take the
easy way out, remove the jumpers, and install the piggy-back

proper patch panel?
Don't want to cut corners, but if re-punching the whole lot can be
avoided, it would help cut the customer cost.

residential customers and we are happy with it for our needs.

We power them with a Netonix, off of a POE port. Works great. Just set
the port to 48VH (only the first port on a WS-8-150, or only the first
4 ports on a WS-12-250 up to Revision F, and only the first 2 ports on
WS-12-250 after revision F) and connect orange and blue pairs to
POSITIVE and green and brown pairs to NEGATIVE. You eat up one port on
your Netonix if you have a small one, since you still have to connect
the data cable of course (data port is labeled "WAN" port on the outside).

Hope that helps someone experimenting. There are quite a few tweaks we
had to do to make them work. Plan on 2 to 4 days of messing with it.

He might have a point. The customer would absolutely hate that,

So your CO or NOC would be fine. Probably a phone room as well.
Same with pedestals, outdoor cabinents, and I'd argue the ONT on

Hanging an indoor ONT/NID in someone's garage wouldn't be "in

Gain is never an exact number as it always varies over the covered

overstates their gain by 2-3 db over the 'industry standard'

3-4 miles almost anywhere on earth that a substantial number of those

Gain is never an exact number as it always varies over the covered
frequency range and polarization, but from what I understand
Ubiquiti overstates their gain by 2-3 db over the 'industry
standard' measurements. Similar to how they say the AF24 can go up
to 10miles, which is effectively bs, the max 99.99% availability
reliable range is 3-4 miles almost anywhere on earth that a
substantial number of those radios coild be installed.

25 dBi.

I have not used it, but I've been happy with their 400mm unit.

Have checked to make sure you do not have tip/ring reversal?

Also confirming these are loop start not ground start?

Does your PBx have any attenuation control (not gain)?

The telco can attenuate the line some but it can be a pain to convince them.

It could also be a bad ground. If you can check that, we used to dump a
gallon

of water on the ground stake (at the Network Interface)and it would go away

Apparently their customer portal isn't really a part of their system.

Any Sonar customer has to purchase and maintain their own linux system
to host the web/portal system.
Then that ties into their main system BUT isn't immediately synched up
with their main system on any changes.

I've had several times where I've been on the phone with customers and
made a billing change in Sonar and the customer can't see it in the
portal until an unspecified amount of time goes by and it updates
magically.

NOW my portal is completely out of the blue not responding to web

Sonar can't figure it out and want me to nuke it and start over, which
if I remember, cost me a few hours of time to arrange DNS, SSH access,
IPv4/6 changes, firewall, SSL, logo placement etc beyond their initial
load.

I blame myself for not having set up incremental backups of it.
I'll definitely fix that this time.

But man it would have been so much more simpler if Sonar actually had

https://github.com/SonarSoftware/customer_portal/wiki.

We are happy to install it for you, if you wipe the server out
so we can just walk through the install process. There is no
customer login information in the portal. It is stored inside
Sonar. This can be solved very quickly with a fresh server,
and just letting our staff set it up for you.

locked outward with a ruler, i worked his legs in and out til
his hip popped one night, i thought i broke his hip, but it
was just something going back. The 4 year old you couldbt

never taught him to speak. We fixed that, and that was the
least bad of the fuckery. This was me, the old lady,
a1,2,4,and 5 year old with our 2 in a tiny 2 bedroom.
Finally got these boys shaped up and bought a house for room,
and a week later they gave them back to the mom. The old

Now today was their grandmas (my old ladies step moms)
funeral, so whats this trashcan do? Gets arrested for selling

For basic needs, the advantage of doing mapping using Google Earth

placemarks in a XML file with lat/long coordinates, with metadata
describing the thickness of the line, the color of the line, how many
intermediate points are on the line, and so forth.

The best organizational advice I can give is to use folders and
subfolders in Google Earth Pro appropriately to sort projects, so
that you don't end up with a single folder that contains 500 unnamed
lines. Might look fine when viewed on a map but can become an
organization nightmare.

In 2014 I read:
Craig was doing google earth and excel sheets.
Chuck Hogg was using Manifold (kinda), and some Google Maps Engine.
Mike H was using ArcMap for his clients.
A few other google sheets.

What’s changed, what’s new, what’re you using today? Same as

Yeah, but what if it doesn't work with the 8' dish? once you have
some kind of a link in place, it's pretty easy to get a good idea
of what's going to happen when you get bigger dishes on there.

Putting up an 8' dish without having any idea what it's going
to do seems kind of risky - I'd assume that's not going to be
cheap to put that up. I would want to put up some kind of a
test link before I went there, even if it was just a pair of
PowerBeams.

Not in this case. If they won’t let me put a 1 or 2’ dish on
the tower they run to get extra bandwidth to the school (7
T1’s for 300 kids) or the medical clinic (2 T-1’s), I’m
thinking they aren’t going to let me cut down or trim a mile
of trees.

Everytime I proposed something I was answered with “we have a
plan, just be patient”. Not really my strong suit. This plan
involves towers but nobody knows who gets awarded or when.
So, 2.4GHz through a mile of trees, here I come.

I thought of the 2’ dish and see what happens but I don’t want
to have to pay tower climbers so do this twice. I’m going to
do the 8’ dish on the tower and 2’ dish on the roof. Once I
see those numbers, I can make adjustments on the roof.
Biggest issue is AF2 through trees. I’m thinking that I’m

bringing up a pair of ePMP 2.4GHz radios also to compare. I’m
also considering putting up a Cambium 450i 900MHz as backup
with a Yagi.

is that if an underwriter doesn't truly understand a risk, they
characterize said risk higher than one would that does understand

only for communications companies, and the annual savings is very
significant. You should at least obtain quotes from them to

Looking over the EXFO website, there are way too many units and
most of them have a fiber focus.
Anybody have a favorite they would recommend?

Dennis and I did initial design and setup.

It's documented and represented somewhat in The Dude.

But needs some cleanup of course.

Was just hoping IPArchitechs would be quick to identify and remedy what should
be simple issues like this.

I've got them responding now, so I'll see how it goes next week on fixes and
implementation.

I like Dennis, was trying another company for comparison.

Who did the original setup ? Were multiple people involved over time with the
current setup ?

Sounds like your currently have a layered configuration without the
possibility of best practices applied to each layer, thus resulting in this
issue.

Is the network well documented ? If not then it can be a quiet a ball of wax
to deal with.

If you have inhouse folks and just need help with identifying the cause of the
issue, I may be able to help.
If you are looking for a turnkey solution / fix clean up then it will be best
suited for one the consultants .

It is a routing problem, probably a BGP change outside of us.

But I have internal BGP and several /24 subnets that I don't want to
route around the internet and back to myself, just to hop directly
between my two Mikrotik BGP instances.

That seems to be the major hangup right now.

I have a single static entry to route a specific block from one
Mikrotik to the other, but need a more general policy BGP related that
gets automatically filtered down to my OSPF network and MPLS to keep
all of my own inter-subnet communications internal instead of trying
to roam all over creation and back to myself.

So far, not so good with them.

I've spent about $340 for an hour and a half time to have them modify
one temporary route rule in fifteen seconds.
Rest of the time appeared to be them attempting to figure things out
on BGP/eBGP and OSPF.

That didn't fix my problem, just a patch to get some traffic
re-routed, but left me with a bunch of other problems.

When I asked them about the charge, they wouldn't work with me.

I expect a lot more out of a team that charges top dollar for being
the top experts.

I'm having problems communicating and scheduling time now to get that
permanently fixed.
It appears they want to create an entire lab with separate equipment,
spending hours of my money, to understand the problem.

So, yeah, not what I was expecting out of them at all.

They were so bad for so long years ago but a few years ago now a new

While I am at if anyone know of any vendors that sell Cambium and can
