Very true. I found it cheaper to use contractors.

Fiber requires a LOT of crew and machinery that WISPs don't have and are not
trained to operate.

You could do small jobs and pay retail on the fiber construction.

Backhaul with high capacity wireless into areas and bury/hang fiber (how I
started).
Then fill in with middle mile fiber down the road.

Or do the reverse and backhaul with fiber and stick with high capacity wireless
for last mile (Vivint?)
Then fill in with fiber to the home later.

The capital required to run a crew to do fiber is pretty high.
And that doesn't get you any actual fiber in the ground, that's also very
capital intensive on top of that.

Salary is the hard part. Keeping large crews happy in down time is where
problems arise.
Double training staff might work, but I haven't seen much of that.

There is a LOT of money to be had in owning and operating a good drilling and
fiber crew around here.

Depends on noise floor. The nano beam m2-13 is only 13DBI. If you want to sep
up to a bigger dish that would get you more gain. As much as folks don’t like
the air grids in 2.4 GHZ it’s hard to beat the AG-HP-2G20.

heads on these.  I know they aren't that finely tuned for the frequency.

Depends on noise floor. The nano beam m2-13 is only 13DBI. If you want to sep
up to a bigger dish that would get you more gain. As much as folks don't like
the air grids in 2.4 GHZ it's hard to beat the AG-HP-2G20.

Currently we have the Utah channels in there. Importation and adding to the

The local company (you) has to bear the cost of transport of the distant

On the newer firmware, it's a checkbox labeled "transparent bridging". Required

Not really. There is a little program that open dns supplies that keeps the

stay way from matrixstream because I have been in talks with them for few weeks
again and they wont talk to small wisps they are into larger telcos and they
are only at 40 channels and they dont have any local channels and if you want
to add local channels you have to get retransmission's rights and they said I
would have to spend 24k just to do this then you have to have 75k to 100k
servers from them to do this. I am also in talks with somebody local who does
IPTV they said they can do standard IPTV with 3meg and HD with 6megs with vlan
setup.

Re: [AFMUG] Realchoice TV

2016-01-08 Thread Tim Reichhart

The issue I am seeing right now is that it will not work over on wireless ap to
wireless cpe. The 2 companies I already spoken to said that: 1 its going to
cost about 100k to do with licensing and servers 2. always 2-5meg connections
and your going have to have at lease 2-3gb fiber connection line to there
office to do this.  Unless realchoice tv is able to do something that is not
going to cost 100k to start up. Its better suited to be on dsl or fiber
connection I dont think WISP's would be able to do iptv.

Yes. When you add an ip to the a list, if you've ever created that list before
or rules that deal with the list, it will be available in the dropdown for the
list name. Alternatively, you can type it in. Keep in mind it is case
sensitive. We automate this through Wispmon so when a customer gets suspended,
it ssh's to the router and runs the command

/ip firewall address-list add address=10.x.x.x list=suspended

I am just wondering if airrouter hp would be able to do this or not? Basically
I am looking to do is limit bandwidth on each port to 6meg on 10/100 mbps port.

Make sure the winbox MAC server is running on the interface you're using:
/tool mac-server mac-winbox
Make sure that you're allowing discovery on the appropriate interface:
/ip neighbor
Make sure you're not locking out any IP ranges you need:
/ip service

Get it off channel 7. Poke around at the sub end and see what else is on what
channel. Typically, there will be less noise at channel 1 or 11. Most SOHO
routers are going to be on channel 6, and putting your stuff on 7 will get
local interference most of the time.

My working theory as to why *every* router on auto hits the channel that feeds

I guess one hitch is I'm running 10MHz channels now, so realistically the

I can't decide that for you. You really need to know what the noise is like at
each sector. However, when I use 10 MHz channels, I try to take advantage of
the fact that you're only using a 1/2 channel. You're goig to get better
results (most of the time) when you're at the edges.

each sector. However, when I use 10 MHz channels, I try to take advantage of
the fact that you're only using a 1/2 channel. You're goig to get better

Get it off channel 7. Poke around at the sub end and see what else is on what
channel. Typically, there will be less noise at channel 1 or 11. Most SOHO
routers are going to be on channel 6, and putting your stuff on 7 will get

One of the flaws in most (if not all?) of the Atheros chip sets is that if it's
not 802.11 and it's not 20 MHz, then it doesn't exist.

Anything built with Atheros seems to be very poor in detecting "interference"
if it isn't something that it recognizes.

I moved the rule from the customers firewall to my core router. No other way

What kind of ip pbx are they using? Also are they doing the HD calling because

If systems like this end up rolling out on cell sites across the nation we
are going to see some tough times getting clear channels. I've seen several
proposals now for tower based systems that use very large swaths of 5Ghz as
alternative LTE data paths to cell phones with multi-channel BW designed to
suck up every free piece of 5Ghz spectrum found.

Mobile carriers really have no rights to be start using unlicensed spectrum
they pay the big bucks for license spectrum so what gives them rights to enter
the unlicensed spectrum? So they can trash the whole or some of the 5ghz
spectrum so we wisp cant have anything? Just like I seen an screenshot of
alvarion breeze in 5ghz that everybody said that you couldn’t see in ubnt gear

That's called "malicious interference" and can and should get you fined and
shut down. Further, it is not WISP spectrum and never was. I have never
understood the WISP sense of entitlement with unlicensed (free) spectrum,
especially given that it is a population that is largely politically
conservative.

People don't realize how new some of this equipment is though, the products
haven't been shipping for more than a few months. The DC fed and several other

Use the larger depth strut. Get 1.5" clamps 4 of them for rohn 25, 2 brackets
per strut. Then proper size for your mounting pipe. Then it u have any play in
it depending on the weight of whatever u mounted u can add a 3rd brace from the
remaining leg to mid point on your mounting pipe to really beef it up

Very strong. Use 2-3 hose clamps, commercial ones with weight ratings. We
mount one on top one on bottom, pipe between them. Can easily handle use
hanging on them. Here we have them holding up the Mimosa’s we just put up on
a windmill.

I have in the past drilled and tapped holes in the backplane and then
installed screws into the top of the panel with double nuts on the
underside. The screws of course line up with the keyholes on the RB2011.

It's more space efficient to mount it sideways though. For that I've taken
the cover off and attached a DIN bracket to the rear surface of the cover,
then it can snap onto a DIN rail.

The Lite is cheap and can do PtP or PtMP, but does not have airprism. The PtP

the two which means they will always be limited to ptp or ptmp, as far as I
know this is going to be a permanent separation.

The AC radios have faster CPUs and that sort of thing, so they are going to
perform better than the old junk, they also have some spiffy features like live
airview. The biggest downside to the AC line at this point is the lack of DFS
and UNII-1.

I personally wouldn't put up anything with the old M5 stuff at this point
unless you need to for compatibility reasons, UBNT AC should perform best of
the three, but ePMP gives you a bit more flexibility at this point. I expect
AF5x to be better than any of them in every way.

I am looking at replacing an old shitbucket tranzeo link, we already have it
connected to one pol of a set of radiowaves 2 foot HP parabolics. I figure its
worth checking out these AC radios, but I dont know whats what now, is this a
permanent separation with UBNT of ptp and ptmp or is this two things that are
going to converge?

Other than the Ac component, for a low throughput demand link is there any
major benefit of going to the AC over the M5 in terms of performance? (future
demand is a factor as well)

Also considering the epmp, goods, bads uglies between the three products there?
