What he released was what it was. If there is no consequence we end up with
no security. You have to be certain what you're blowing the whistle on is
actually serious. Draft anything is not (talking about policy and whatnot)
draft is just an idea.
Had snowden taken even one step to go down a legitimate channel I wouldn't
have issue to the degree I do. Even if that was nothing more than a
deadline to come clean. I would prefer he released through a team that
could spot national security issue, but it's here nor there at this point,
he needs to die now.
Whistleblowers might lose a career, but almost always will get a book deal,
so it's not like income will be an issue. But those who choose to go
outside the protected channel stand to lose a lot more, like getting robbed
ala democrats. At least I want to publicly acknowledge we killed them.

Which wouldn't have matter wether he did use his chain of command
(debatable depending on how you read the hearing reports), as it's been
pointed out several places that the whistleblower protections don't
actually protect contractors - only federal employees. Tie that together
with a historical retaliation on whistleblowers that had destroyed careers
even after people were exonerated and I can see why.

Note, I'm not saying what he did, the going to other countries etc is right

the whistle the way that he did.

I mean, his uncovering of mass surveillance that was so bad it was
retroactively made legal is mind blowing. Blatant disregard of law by the
US government, and instead of prosecuting anyone they're like "nah it's
fine, oh here's a hall pass to cover the last couple of years".

I'm very, very bothered that people are so up in arms over Snowden that
nobody gives a fuck what he actually uncovered. That's a big warning flag
to me about the state of our country.

I have to clarify, that response I just made came across very shitty to
Jaime, was intended tongue in cheek.

But releasing information about treason is not an issue initially for the
media, whistleblower programs are in place and nobody uses them, if they do
and they fail, then the press is fine, but it used to be the press would
investigate it, verify it where possible, now its a direct to the plate
scenario. Snowden needs to never come back, because he should be shot, he
never attempted a formal channel, and he had the tech prowess to dead man
switch an insurance data dump.
The leaker who got our seal killed needs blacksited and never seen again.

left for the raccoons.

Quite a slippery slope there. I think if they are leaking an attempt at
covering up treason, then it is probably more important that we prosecute
the person who committed the ACTUAL treason, rather than the person who
leaked the attempt at covering it up. I don't think any of them deserves a
bullet. As a strong second amendment-supporting liberal, I find it hard to
grasp the quick rush to murder people from the political party that
supposedly champions a 'right to life'. Let me guess, you probably support
running over protesters in the streets too, right?

If they will leak insignificant information for free, they'll release
devastating intelligence for a fee. All reports on the Yemen raid indicate
they were prepared for our boys arrival. We lost a navy seal because of
leaks. So I don't think it's extreme at all.

You have a rather extreme viewpoint on this. We're talking about leaks that
are closer in relevance to colonel Sanders secret recipe than we are lists
of active nuclear launch sites.

Did the leaks come from John Miller, or John Baron?

The new administration has been consistently inconsistent. Old Mr. Orange was
that way before the election, so no one should be surprised.
