Re: [Ai] request Accessibility of Ola app.

2017-10-04 Thread gatak singh via Ai
I'm also a regular user of ola and uber apps on android. I'm not
facing any problems in both. ola is quite inaccessible, but it can be
managed. in accessibility, uber is best but compared to the fare, ola
is the best these days. sometimes the difference is upto 50 rs. I use
tabzo to compare the fare of both the cabs. tabzo is a nice app,
moreover it's accessible.

ok. I did not know about this rule because this is not included in the
reminders that are sent every month. by the way, everybody has her
number at least here in karnataka, because she arranges scribes. if
personal information should not be shared, then every person's email
is on the list. hope people are not miss using my Email ID and phone

[Ai] Blind student threatens suicide after medical seat is cancelled

Blind student threatens suicide after medical seat is cancelled
Current
Sep 18, 2017
Suresh, a 19-year-old medical student from Karnataka, who is unable to
see beyond a distance of 8 cm has threatened suicide.

This is after the Medical Council of India cancelled his admission to
college since his disability is regarded too severe for someone taking
the MBBS course.

Suresh was given admission in 2016 by authorities in Karnataka who
failed to take note of his condition. It was cancelled a year later.

In August, Suresh wrote a five-page letter, and a separate two-page
suicide note with a headline - 'Notice of Death' in which he talked
about his struggle
to get a college seat.

He said that despite his 70% visual disability, he scored 86% in his
Class 12 examinations, studied hard for his medical college exam, and
sold family
property to pay for his first year fees.

Suresh says he is severely depressed and says he will end his life if
he does not get a solution in his favour.

Officials of the Karnataka Examination Authority allotted him a seat
under the disability quota after he scored a rank of 20,000 out of 1.5
lakh in the
common entrance test.

This was cancelled a year later as it violated a rule that says that
only those disabled in the lower limbs can get a medical seat. Also
anyone with over
70% disability is not eligible for admission at all.

The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill 2016 allows 5%
reservation without any exception in all educational institutions. But
as this came into force
in 2017, it does not apply to Suresh’s case because he took admission last year.

‘Though I’m visually impaired, technology has never let me feel disabled’

Visually impaired from birth, Ruchir was born into a world that
inhibited access for the differently-abled. And now, a world that
wasn’t designed for him, is well within reach. A city that once
overwhelmed him is now at his fingertips. This is his journey – the
World in Voices.

Uber Journeys

Half a billion completed rides across India is a great statistic. But
it's far more than that. It's the lives behind those numbers – the
people, their purpose, passions and everyday journeys that is a
wellspring of inspiration.

Uber Journeys is a showcase of the extraordinary lives of ordinary people.

The World in Voices brings to life the inspiring story of Ruchir
Falodiya. Visually impaired from birth, Ruchir sees the world in
voices - one that he says is full of possibilities and great
adventures.

lengthy process. please make it more easier.

hi there.
gatak singh here from bangalore.
I am working at VMware india pvt. ltd . as QA engineer. I also run a
group called kannada tantramsha, which is helping a visually
challenged people to solve their technical queries. this is
exclusively for kannada speakers, which is first of it's kind. we also
make podcasts, or tutorials, and upload them to youtube. we also make
workshops frequently, to help the non internet users. in those
workshops, we try to bring the confidence in them to use the screen
touch phones, distribute the podcasts in the form of CDs, clear their
doubts and introduce some new apps which are helpful for visually
challenged. all in all, we work mainly through social media to help
kannada technology enthusiasts.
you can contact me on the same Email ID.

Re: [Ai] New languages in voice ipput in Google

2017-08-18 Thread gatak singh via Ai
greetings to all from kannada tantramsha.
many people are facing difficulties while using google voice input
with multiple languages. if you set your regional language as primary
language, then OK google might not work. here I am going to teach you
how to use multiple languages easily.
note: using GBoard is mandatory.
follow the below steps, written by gatak singh.
1. install the GBoard. if it's not installed in your phone, here is
the direct link for GBoard.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.inputmethod.latin
2. open the system settings and click on languages and input.
3. find the option google voice typing and activate it. select all the
language that you want to dictate. don't forget to click on save
button in the end.
4. press the back button. find the option manage keyboards and select GBoard.
5. press back button and go to GBoard settings.
6. here you will have an option to choose languages. select all the
languages that you have already selected under voice typing settings.
7. in order to select more than one language, you have to unselect the
use system language. then select native languages, not the languages
which say ABC in the end. for example, there are some indian
languages, like hindi india, hindi abc, kannada india, kannada abc
etc. select hindi india or kannada india.
8. you are ready to go.
9. open any edit box and start dictating.
10. if you want to switch between languages, find the next language
button right next to your space bar, on the left side. double tap on
it, to change the language.
note :
you have to select the keyboard of that particular language, which you
need to dictate. the voice input button is located just above the
alphabet P.
this is working perfectly for me, with 3 languages.
the settings I have explained are based on moto G4+, android version
7.0, which I am using now.
the settings may differ on other phones, but the steps are same.
hope this helps.

Re: [Ai] BlindSight android app - Like Seeing AI

2017-08-07 Thread gatak singh via Ai
I just installed this app and used for sometime. when you open the
app, it says tap on the screen. you have to just double tap anywhere
on the screen, picture will be taken, and talkback announces the
result in few seconds.
but the funny thing is that it is not giving the correct result. I am
in my office now. I took few pictures but it says man sitting on bed
with laptop, man standing in kitchen, man standing wearing a blue tie,
and some funny things.
it's giving this result even when I did not take a picture of any
human. but anyway, thanks for sharing.

Re: [Ai] accessible help for booking OLA cab/Auto

2017-08-04 Thread gatak singh via Ai
sure. I will also help you to book the uber cab. before that, the
difference between ola prime, micro and etc is that the number of
people who can sit in the car. I dont know exactly but I know about
uber. so will explain here.
how to book uber?
1. download the uber app from the play store. for your convenience, I
am providing the direct link here.
Check out "Uber"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ubercab
2. register to uber by giving your phone number, name, Email ID and continue.
3. enter the OTP sent by uber. sometimes, OTP is automatically taken.
5. you are ready to go!
6. find the option where to. enter your destination there.
7. pickup location is automatically taken by your location, but if you
want to change that, there is one option just above the where to. that
item is not labelled as pickup location. your screen reader will just
announce the pickup location which is taken automatically. just click
on that, enter your location, you can find the results at the upper
part of the screen, as it happens with ola as well. just click on your
location.
8. now you can see the estimated price of all the cabs just above the
list of cabs displayed. listen to that carefully, because the price of
each cab is not displayed in a seperate lines. everything is jumbled
up in one single line.
9. select the cab that you want to book. there will be 3 options.
uberPool, uberGo and uberX. uber pool is like ola share. uber go is
single cab, where 4 people can sit. uber X is little big car,
convenient to take luggages.
10. select the cab that you want. the cab which is selected is
announced as selected by your screen reader.
11. choose the payment method. here you can select cash, paytm, debit
card or credit card. to pay with debit card or credit card, you must
have linked it with your uber account. if you want to pay through
paytm, that should also be linked with your uber account and also you
must have minimum of RS. 350 in your paytm wallet.
12. click on next or continue..
13. if you have booked a pool, it will ask you to confirm the number
of seats. you can choose one seat or two seats. choose the number of
seats and click confirm seat. if you have booked uberGo or uberX,
there is no option to choose the seats.
14. again it will ask for the confirmation of the pickup location. it
will show some nearby places. just click on your location again, and
click confirm booking.
15. your cab is booked!
16. you can call your driver to make sure. you can also check the
status of your driver..

there are some differences between ola and uber. some of them are:
1. ola has perfectly labelled the options as pickup and drop location,
whereas uber has labelled it as where to and no label for the pickup
location.
2. ola sends you a confirmation message to your mobile with the name
of the driver, phone number of the driver, car name and number, and
OTP as well. whereas in uber, it does not send a confirmation message
to your mobile. and also there is no OTP system in uber.
3. you can check the estimated time of the pickup and after boarding
the cab, you can check at what time you will reach your destinationin
uber. whereas in ola, you can't check these things because that is not
accessible with talk back. however, a sighted person can see it in ola
as well.
hope it helps. pardon me for the gramatical mistakes, spelling
mistakes or the sentence formation.

Re: [Ai] Hindustan Times hate series: I urged them to carry a report on violence faced by disabled

2017-08-03 Thread gatak singh via Ai
when I was studying in college, I have come across some people who
would hold your cane and guide you. this is the most annoying
situation. in that situation, I feel that there is no problem if they
dont guide me, but I dont like guiding that way.
why only sighted girls?
I have also seen few partially sighted, or you may also call them
partially blind girls, who refuse, or dislike to hold your hands and
guide.
what do you listers have to say on this?
actually, I dont agree with the cultural barriers. the person who
feels that he should help will help anyway. it all depends upon their
thinking. I had some very close friends, specially girlfriends, who
would hold my hands, guide me to the bus stop from my college, wait
till my bus comes, help me to board the bus, then go.
there are every kind of people. just we have to bare everything.

Re: [Ai] accessible help for booking OLA cab/Auto

2017-08-01 Thread gatak singh via Ai
I use ola and uber very often. if you compare with accessibility, uber
is better than ola. but auto service is not available on uber.
however, both of them are not fully accessible, but partly accessible.
you can manage booking easily. follow these steps to book ola.
1. open the ola app, it will ask you to turn on the location. click
yes. your device location will be on.
2. enter the pickup and drop location. those are properly labelled.
3. select the type of ride that you want to take. for example, auto,
ola share, prime, micro, etc.
note: your screen reader will not respond when you double tap on those
option, but it will get selected.
4. find the ride now option at the bottom of your screen.
5. select the payment method. like cash, ola money, debit card.
note: in order to pay with ola money, you will have to load money into
your ola money wallet. to pay with debit card, you must link your card
with your ola account.
6. click on the confirm booking button. you will ready to go!
7.you will get a confirmation message from ola, in which the car
number, driver name and number will be given. you can also call the
driver and talk to him.
8. an OTP will be also provided to you in that message. you will have
to give that OTP to your driver when you board the cab.
hope it helps. I have written these steps assuming you are using the
android app.
I am not using IOS so unable to help on that. let me know if you need
any help in booking uber cab.
thanks.

Re: [Ai] Synthia Anand reports: Aranging 1000 scribes for the Blind: A blessing to visually impaired students

2017-08-01 Thread gatak singh via Ai
I have attended few banking and SSC exams. the problem is that there
are so many complicated mathematics in the question paper. it is
impossible for a visually challenged to solve these calculations on
his own. because, most have them have not studied mathematics in their
high school and colleges. even though that person is capable of
solving those problems on his own, he falls short of time. it is
impossible to solve them in stipulated one hour time. so, I feel that
visually challenged students should be taught mathematics from their
school level, or people with blindness should be given alternative in
exams as well. like the schools have alternative subjects for
mathematics and science such as political science and economics.

sorry for discussing again but I couldn't stop commenting on this matter.
I know few examples where the girl has not accepted the proposal of
the boy, but when the boy got a government job, she threatened to
marry her otherwise she would go to the court aledging that he
promised to marry but did not keep up his promise. so boy had to marry
her due to fear of loosing his government job.
in this matter, boy had promised that he would marry that girl. what I
understand is that girl may have agreed for sex based on this promise.
but in any case, boy should have married her. but he did not marry,
that's his mistake. but this should be called cheating rather than
rape.
someone said that women feel shy or disgusted to go to courts saying
that she was raped. but I dont agree to this. that women should have
immidiately gone to the court when she was raped for the first time.
from my understanding, women dont go to courts because if this comes
in the media and if everybody comes to know about that, nobody would
marry her. but in this case, she was already married once, and there
wasn't any matter to fear.
this is nothing but hipocracy at its peak. if he had married her, she
would have never complained. here, he did not marry, hence it
automatically turned into rape case. rape is rape. women can change
the situation however they want. it was not rape before 2 years, then
how can it be called rape now?
I am not in anyway supporting the rapists. but just speaking about this case.
I wonder what was the proof for the marriage promise that he had made.
was there any recording or document? or judge just believed her oral
words?
I can understand the psychology of the female members on this list.
they can't speak against that aledged female victim, because females
should support the females. but the fact is that men are often
exploited legally due to the biased laws.
someone said that father raping his own daughter, brother raping his
own sister comes to light after so many years. this happens because
the girl will be minor in that situation. in this case, girl was not
minor. she had 8 year old child, which means she was matured enough.
so, as mahajan sir said, both of them are equally culprits in this case.
the best way to escape from the discussion is to just say, 'how can we
talk when we are not in that situation'.
anyway, I feel that boy should had kept up to his promise, then it
would have been never called rape. but this punishment is very harsh
on him, who was not 100% culprit.

if I would talk about writing exams independently, I also support this
view but most of them will not agree to this. we all agree because we
are using emails, computers. but most of them does not even know to
use email service. that's the problem.

Re: [Ai] [SayEverything] Can we discuss hard truth: why blind and the deaf people are less represented in the government/private sectors in India? what can we do about it?

2017-06-26 Thread gatak singh via Ai
I feel that there should be NGO which should train visually challenged
only for jobs. just giving computer training is not enough. NGO should
whole heartedly try to convince the companies to recruit visually
challenged. I don't see any NGO doing it with dedication. today, there
are so many institutions which are providing the computer training,
but none of them are dedicated to convince the companies and place
them. I feel that if CSR was not there, even these number of people
could not have got job.
I feel that companies must understand that visually challenged are
capable and efficient of working, and any NGO should take a lead to
make them understand.
many people may not agree with me, but my opinion will not change.

Landmark Case Could Change Digital Accessibility Enforcement
In Gil v. Winn-Dixie Stores, the court ruled that the defendant’s

ADA lawsuits, as well as setting an important precedent for other
digital accessibility cases.

With just a little bit of foresight, Winn-Dixie could have avoided the
issue entirely. Rishi Agrawal and Charles Hoffman, our team of Legal

through the decision, while showing you that lawyers can be fun too.
Find out what the case could mean for your business and how you can
avoid a lawsuit in the future.

India changes definition of blindness, opts for WHO criteria

Written By: PTI, Published : 19 Apr 2017 18:51 IST

According to the new definition, a person who is unable to count fingers
from a distance of three metres would be considered "blind" as against the
earlier stipulation of six metres, which was adopted in 1976.(Reuters)
India has changed its over four- decade-old definition of blindness,
bringing it in line with the WHO criteria, a step that would drastically
bring down the number of people considered "blind" in the country.
According to the new definition, a person who is unable to count fingers
from a distance of three metres would be considered "blind" as against the
earlier stipulation of six metres, which was adopted in 1976.

The aim of revising the definition is also to be able to generate data
which can be compared with global estimates and achieve the WHO goal of
reducing the blindness prevalence of India to 0.3 per cent of the total
population by 2020. The notification in this regard has been issued by the
Union Health Ministry.

Going by the new definition, the population of blind people in India will
reduce from 1.20 crore (as per National Blindness survey 2007 data) to 80
lakh. "Because of the earlier definition, we were projecting a higher
figure of blind people from India at any international forum, presenting
ourselves in poor light.

"Also, the data that we generated under the programme could not be compared
with the global estimates as other countries were following the WHO
definition," said Dr Promila Gupta, Deputy Director General of National
Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB).

Further, India has to achieve the goal set by the WHO which recommends
reducing the prevalence of blindness to 0.3 per cent by 2020 to achieve the
elimination of avoidable blindness.

"It would have been extremely difficult to achieve the WHO goal using the
earlier NPCB definition since we had been addressing an extra 4 million (40
lakh) individuals blind due to refractive errors. Whereas, by adopting the
blindness criteria of WHO, India now can achieve the goal," said Professor
Praveen Vashist, in-charge Community Ophthalmology at Dr R P Centre for
Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS.

Also, the name of the scheme, 'National Programme for Control of Blindness'
has been changed to 'The National Programme for Control of Blindness and
Visual Impairment'.

"The programme, henceforth, will not only focus on the blind persons but
also those with some kind of visual impairment. With the change in
nomenclature, the number of beneficiaries will now increase to 40 million,"
Dr Vashist added.

The previous definition of blindness was adopted at the time of the
inception of the NPCB in 1976.

"The probable reason for keeping 6 metres as the cut off distance for
defining blindness in India was to include economic blindness cases which
referred to a level of blindness which prevents an individual to earn his
or her wages.

"In contrast, the WHO definition adopts a criteria for blindness that is
which hampers the routine social interaction of a person (social
blindness)," Gupta said.
