[l10n-issues] [Issue 41672] New - Numbers inappropriately formatted using Thai digits
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=41672 Issue #:|41672 Summary:|Numbers inappropriately formatted using Thai digits Component:|l10n Version:|680m74 Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|All Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|code Assigned to:|dl Reported by:|samphan --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Jan 30 22:41:16 -0800 2005 --- When OS locale is set to Thai, numbers in various places will be displayed using Thai digits. This has been tested on Windows and Linux. I also found the same problem with other locales that have non-ASCII digits, such as Hindi and Arabic. It happens no matter what locale is set in 'Tools/Options/Language Settings/Languages/Locale setting', even when 'Language Setting/Complex Text Layout/Numerals' is set to Arabic, and even when 'Language Setting/Languages/Enabled for complex text layout' is disabled. Test cases :- Windows: a) Set the OS locale using 'Control Panel/Regional and Language Options/Standards and formats'. Set it to Thai. b) Run OOo (quickstarter may interfere with this so close it beforehand). Linux: a) Set the LANG environment to Thai. Use the command-line shell, type 'export LANG=th_TH' b) Run 'soffice' from the same shell. The problem will show up in :- - Writer a) On formatting toolbar, change the font size to any different number, then it'll be displayed using Thai digits. Change the style to any style name with number (e.g. Heading 1), then the number will be displayed using Thai digits (Heading à). This is not what Thai expect. Thai rarely use Thai digits now. They're used only in some formal text. So having Thai digits in the UI looks strange. b) Type some numbers in the document (e.g. 123) then export to PDF. All (ASCII) numbers in the result pdf file will be printed using Thai digits. - Impress c) The numbers in the color drop-down list (e.g. Blue 7) on the line & fill toolbar are displayed using Thai digits. This happens in Draw too. d) Type some numbers in the presentation. They'll be displayed using Thai digits (but print correctly) - Calc e) Type some numbers in the data entry line, all numbers in the line will be displayed first using Thai digits then, after a quick refresh, using ASCII digits. I don't think I've covered all bugs related to this problem. All are the same, some numbers are displayed using Thai digits if the OS locale is set to Thai. Switch the OS locale back to, says English (US) or en_US and the problems gone. OOo has this problem since 1.1 (when it implemented the native numeral feature). In the older versions, it also shows this behavior when print too (all ASCII numbers printed using Thai digits, see issue 22181). But this is fixed because I don't see it again even in Impress which display numbers using Thai digits on screen but not in print. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=41671 Issue #:|41671 Summary:|Thai line-breaking non-functional Component:|l10n Version:|680m74 Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|All Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|code Assigned to:|dl Reported by:|samphan --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Jan 30 22:21:40 -0800 2005 --- In version 680, OOo is no longer able to break lines between adjacent Thai words that do not have a separator character between them (this is the normal case in Thai). In version 1.1, OOo was able to correctly do this. This is a very serious regression that makes OOo not usable for Thai. This bug lead to the problem in issue 32911. This can be observed in both Writer and Calc (for cells with 'wrap text automatically'). It happens on both Windows and Linux. Test case for Writer :- In Writer, load the attached .odt file which contains a line with 16 copy of a Thai word 'ààà' and a space in the middle. The line is formatted as CTL=Thai. Writer breaks the line at the space character. Actually the line can be breaked every 3 characters so the right place should be at the ninth character from the right. Test case for Calc: In Calc, load the attached .ods file which has a cell with the text 'àà àà'. Calc breaks the line at the space character while the line can be breaked at the third character from the right. Though line breaking doesn't work, moving the cursor by words still works correctly. You can try moving cursor using ctrl-left/right in Writer and the cursor will move between Thai word boundaries correctly. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I am thinking in terms of genitive case, but I guess this is also relevant to abbreviations of is. Example: OpenOffice.org's is marked as incorrect (although OpenOffice.org is accepted) as is (eg) wandering's, but not writing's (perhaps writing is marked as a "pure" noun?) Others marked as errors: spit's ("We walked along the spit's length, looking out to sea. 'The spit's a lovely place,' she said.") walking's ("Walking's something I really enjoy. One of walking's attractions is the fresh air.") It's not too hard to manufacture more of these. If a Table of Contents is created from both Outline and Custom Styles, the exclusion of some of the Custom Styles intended for inclusion would seem to be an error. The user has clearly marked his/her intention to have that style included in the Table of Contents. In any case, a proposed workaround would be tremendously helpful. Personally, "page width" and "optimal" are the ones I use most, but even though I have "Zoom" in the main toolbar, I am forced to go the the "view" --> "zoom" dialogue box every time. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=41404 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Jan 30 17:54:28 -0800 2005 --- Here is the full detail of the procedure to reproduce the bug and the workaround: Create a spreadsheet. Save it to desktop as test. (e.g. C:\documents and settings\userName\desktop\test.sxc). Note that userName is the name under which you logged into MS Windows 2000. Put some values in the spreadsheet. (i.e. Put the word "month" in cell A1). Create a new document. Save it to desktop as test. (e.g. C:\documents and settings\userName\desktop\test.sxw) Select menu choices . This will bring up a dialogue entitled 'fields'. Click on the 'variables' tab. Select 'dde field'. Select automatic format. Fill in 'name' with the name for a link (e.g. testLink1). Fill in 'dde statement' with the following: 'soffice c:\documents and settings\userName\desktop\test.sxc a1'. Click the 'insert' button. At this point a dialogue will come up with the message: 'Error loading document file:///c:/documents: c:\documents does not exist. "ok"'. This is the stated bug found in Open Office Org 1.1.4. It is always possible to reproduce this bug. Now, to proceed with the workaround. Click âokâ on the error dialogue noted above. Close the 'fields' dialogue box. At this time, note the presence of a small gray block in your text document. Left click on the beginning of the gray block. Now, right click on the beginning of the gray block. This will bring up a drop down menu. Select 'fields' from the menu. If the 'fields' choice does not show, repeat the left click and right click procedure as needed until 'fields' does show. Selecting fields will bring up another dialogue entitled âedit linksâ. Then select 'Modify Link'. 'Application' should read 'soffice' File will read 'c:\documents'. You will need to change this to read 'c:\documents and settings\userName\desktop\test.sxc' Category will read 'and settings\userName\desktop...' Change this to read 'a1'. Click 'ok'. Now close the dialogue. At this time the link is properly set. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The ToC is created from both Outline and Additional Styles. The Appendix1 and Appendix2 styles are included in the Additional Styles as well as in Outline Numbering. It appears that creating the ToC from an Outline will trump whatever Additional Styles one might have. That is, if the styles are used in Outline Numbering but are at a level less than the Evaluation level, they will not be included in the ToC no matter whether they are in Additional Styles or not. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=40613 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Jan 30 15:07:45 -0800 2005 --- Ben Collingsworth, 01/29/05 Configuration: Windows XP, OpenOffice.org 1.9.74 I replicated this problem using OpenOffice.org version 1.9.74. Here is some additional information: 1) The filter is lost in the saved xls file. However, the original filtered numbers are present, but hidden. You can get the missing numbers to appear by doing the following: a) Select the empty rectangle at the top of the row numbering column (far left column) b) In the same far left column, grab the bottom boundry of a cell that preceedes a missing cell c) Expand the cell vertically (down). 2) Related problems can be seen when the spreadsheet is saved in other formats: * Pocket Excel (.pxl) - filter lost, cell that contained formula is empty * Microsoft Excel XML (.xml) - filter lost, formula replaced by number * Data Interchange Format (.dif) - filter lost, formula replaced by number 3) If the saved Microsoft Excel file (.xls) is examined with Microsoft Excel, exaclty the same symptoms can be observed. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Here are few suggestions to extend their functionality - (1) Connectors should evade objects, which are lying in between their paths. (2) If one connector crosses over another connector, than it should âhopâ (Optionally) (Please refer attached file - connector_hop.png) (3) Auto glue point insertion - While attaching a connector, standard glue points are shown and a user can attach to them. If users want to attach the connector to a custom point, then they manually need to create custom glue points. However an easier approach can be used. A user will start the connector from within the source object. At a point where connector crosses source object boundary, a custom glue point will automatically be created. In the same way when a user drags the connector inside the destination object, then at a point where connector crosses destination object's border, a custom glue point will automatically be created. (4) Connectors should try to use the shortest path, between source object and destination object (optionally). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
