after OO has crashed it tries to open the crashed file when it starts next
time.
in my case the file OO tries to open makes it crash again.
i have run soffice -norestore to avoid the problem, but even after i close OO
with no crash, the next time i open without -norestpore OO tries to reopen the
failing documents.

i suggest that OO should only try to open failing documentss until OO has been
closed nicly.

(OO 1.9.91 on linux)

Perhaps we should remove PuTTY Section at all, so people would have to find
another way to work with CVS in Windows (Cygwin is the best option for this) as
i have made it until now.

how about it Louis?

Two questions :
When are these files created, and why does this cause crashes ?

For the first I have the answer : in every file opened with the Finder, these
files are created. They contains some informations about windows size etc.

For the second, I'm waiting a complete explanation (soon), but looks like a bad
opening method (like open a binary file with a bad method).

From my side I have not such problems because I simply use command line (often
ssh) to move in directories.

What I propose is to identify the signature of such problem when it occurs,
and log it in FAQ for build, IMHO

Great idea to inform with this issue, because I never heard of this type of
problem before.

in 680m91 the problem with new filetypes [odt, ods, odb, odg, odb] seems to be
resolved. Only the old filetypes [sxw, stw, std, stc, etc.] that were registered
with OO.o are now having their old icons [OO.o 1.1 implementation].

Hi,

I tried to copy an autotext from one group to another with the
following basic snippet. Seems not to work really, cause all
text tables from the autotext are lost during the copy ... :-(
does not work in oo 1.1.4 too ...

No problems moving autotext via ui (drag drop).

I will create an attachment ...

regards

Oliver

Allocate Number 1,2,3 to levels 1-10

Create,say, 4 headings
Allocate heading styles 1 - 4 to the headings
Save.

The document should appear something like testoutlineheadings91-a.pdf attached

Close the document.

Open the document.
The outline headings have disappeared and now appear as in attached

If one imports an Excel file with charts and a trendline, the chart is imported
but the trend line is not imported. There is the linear regression line in 2.0
but the trendline is not converted to one of them on import.

I've had to create several documents containing large numbers of .png images
(average is 40) each on a separate page, Writer crashes when image 29 or 30 is
inserted.

If I create 2 files with 20 images in each, then import the second file,
Writer
is happy with this, except I cannot copy and past any of the images to re-
arrange them, I have to Drag and Drop them within the document.

I've increased the image buffer size, so that shouldn't be the problem.

I'll attach an image, so you get some idea of the size and type of image I'm
working with.

When Writer crashes, on re-starting Writer, the Document Recovery tool
succesfully recovers the document/s and allows you to enter the cause of the
issue for submission.

Unfortunately, pressing the send button, causes it to crash. I cannot give you
any further info, as none is available.

If I press Don't Send, the doc's are recovered corectly, without further
problems.

By OOo 2.0 I meant the milestones SRC680_m9x, where x is now at 2.

In my build system, I have this:

ftp://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/build/Files/2.0/update_gsi_files

It helps me to provide up-to-date builds for all teams I work with. Can you
provide the same URL for your latest GSI file (.bz2 preferably)?

Also the Link textbox should have the focus, so one can just mark all links with
Ctrl-A . By now the button Close has it, so you must first click on the links

Hi,

I'll display an example Table.

These colums are separated by tabs so if you cut'n'paste into OO.o1.9.91 from
your email you might need to separate the ExampleX and the number by inserting
tabs.

TypeItem
ExampleA24
ExampleB21
ExampleC/ExampleD18
ExampleE15

If you use Table - Convert - Text to Table [Separate Text at Tabs] you will
get a nice two column table sitting perty on the screen.

Now in Word97 and unless I'm totally delusional... previous versions of OO.o I
can convert this table back to text using their Table to Text tools and still
get nicely formatted columns due to a new tab generated by the tool.

When I do this in OO.o1.9.91 I get no tab generated by the tool and the table
reverts back to whatever tabs are set up by the default style.

Hope this helps. Like I said I just can't remember if OO.o in general handles
the conversion like Word97. This may just become a feature request if not.

---
Brian wrote:
MSO sets a tab in each table converted table row at the position of each column,

Sounds like grounds for an enhancement request.

Thanks for the headsup khirano and I did a quick bit of reading on that issue.
I have also attempted the CTRL + DoubleClick on the stylist and there is some
action. However that action docks the window to the left and guess where I
wanted to dock my windowthe right.

But for the life of me; in WindowsXP, I cannot drag a window using the mouse to
automatically dock on either side.

Hi Ja,

I don't actually have my Windows 98 SE machine anymore. I have upgraded to
Windows XP SP2.

What will happen when I have deleted Recovery.xcu? Will this fix the problem?

I am a little confused about where this bug issue is going. Is this now a
confirmed bug? I can see there are a few duplicates but what's the status of
this one.

If I'm honest I can't really see what's been done to sort it out.

Thanks for your time

I confirmed that the problem exists in m91.

In earlier builds, using the same .gsi file this problem did not occur, I expect
that some original strings have changed and that the fact the Dutch translations
of them haven't been updated accordingly causes this problem.

You can assign the issue to me, I will look into it.

If the file is opened in 1.1.4 or 1.1.79, then the outlining is still there and
appears as in the original unclosed file i.e. as in testoutlineheadings91-a.pdf.

I have also tried opening documents previously produced with outline formatting.
In 1.1.4 and 1.9.79, all these documents show the outlining that was used when
they were first written. When opened in 1.9.91, the outlining has disappeared.

This behaviour has been tested on both Windows (Word 2000) and Linux.

The previous Microsoft PowerPoint document (pps extension) leads OO to crash.

Maybe an other bug too:
---
This time, no message is logged in the console but the document recovery system
runs for ever (it forks an other recovery window in the middle of the 1rst
recovery process). I have to uncheck the Launch OpenOffice.org automatically
option in the new forked window. But this end both recovery processes.

If you recognize that OOo crashes during recovery, why not press cancel next
time? This way you get the chance to save backup copies of the crashed files but
OOo doesn't attempt to restore them.

Ok, I guess you can close this issue. I can confirm that it is present in
version 1.1.3 (and I can remember that it is also present in 1.1.4), but in the
current milestone m91 linking fonts is ok and working.

Thanks a lot and all the best

I just tried 1.9.91, no change. When I try to start the Table Wizard nothing
happens.

May I ask, why in the world is OOo using Java for *Wizards* ??
Why should wizards depend on a third-party product? Worse yet, one that can't
even be bundled with OOo. At least if you used Python you could point out that
OOo comes with Python, so it's ok. But OOo doesn't come with Java. So a
significant portion of the functionality is just missing.

Could someone explain to me why this decision was made? As you can see, it's
really causing me a lot of trouble.

2005 ---
Hi all!
Some new stuff, or better report on the current milestone m91. I have tested m91
with my fonts and found, that it is getting worse ;-)
First some explanation: There are three (maybe more) types of professional font
sets:
class 1a: SmallCapsOsF, example: Palatino:style=Small Caps Old Style Figures,
these fonts contain the Capitals at the right places, old-style numerals with
afm names one two ... at the position of the numbers, and SmallCaps with afm
names a b etc at the positions of the lower case letters

class 1b: OsF, example: Palatino:style=Italic Old Style Figures, these fonts
contain the Capitals at the right places, old-style numerals with afm names
one two ... at the position of the numbers, and normal lower case letters at
the right positions (difference to 1a: no small caps!)

Class 2: Expert sets, example: Minion:style=Regular Expert, but also
Utopia:style=Expert Regular, these fonts contain old style numerals with afm
names oneoldstyle twooldstyle .. at the positions of the numbers, Small Caps
with afm names Asmall Bsmall etc at the position of the lower case letters,
but now upper case letters.

So, I made tests with M91 and these three types:
class 1a and 1b now are shown correct on screen, are printed correctly, but NOT
correctly exported to pdf (interestingly! but true). The Expert font can not be
selected to get real caps or oldstyle numerals.

For class 2 I got very mixed results: None of it goes correctly to the printer
nor into the pdf files, so all of them just are not right. But Minion and Adobe
Garamond are displayed correct, while Utopia completely collapses and is
displayed in fixed font (in 2pt or something, unreadable). Here the expert fonts
can be selected for AGaramond and Minion, and correctly show caps/oldstyle nums.

So you are partly on the way to fixing it, but the there are still several
problems:
- Parsing of the font names is still very problematic. Some fontnames just make
the parser go havoc (Expert Utopia).
- Printing/PDF making still is a real problem, definitely not usable
- Usage of class 1 variant fonts is not possible, while those of class 2
variants is usable.

Best wishes, and I hope I can help you a bit!

Not a bug.

You've set only the column as absolute and left the row relative.

Use a '$' in front of the line number to make it absolute.

the cell it doesn't resize with it.

I believe this worked in M79. will attach file

The presentation was last saved with Open Office Impres 2.0 beta (1.9.79) and I
can still load it with this and older versions.

Throughout the Tools - Options dialogue system there are a number of checkboxes
marked 'For the current document only'. One example is setting the language for
the current document.

This placement of document-specific options in a dialogue box that holds
application-wide settings is confusing and counter-intuitive. (I know Microsoft
does it, but that's no excuse ;)
It also throws up contradictions. Eg, I mark the current document as being in
German. Then later on, I want to change the general preference for all documents
-- but the options dialogue shows me the setting I marked for this document.
What happens if I uncheck the box and change the language? Will I change the
global preference? Will the current document also be affected and revert to
using the default setting?

These sorts of settings should be moved to a dialog box that only affects the
current document, eg File - Properties.

Hi,

see the attached screenshot in OOo Base. The terms

Delete
Rename...
Edit...
Open Database Object...

are not translated.

The file officecfg/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/UI/DbuCommands.xcu
doesn't contain German entries for these entries.

This means that German UI is not translated here and *also* that no language
contains the translation of these items - P2.

Ivo: can you please generate the list of strings that have en-US but do not have
de strings in the source? How many such strings are there?

To confirm, I created a file in 1.9.92 following the guidelines provided. I then
saved it as .odt and as .sxw.

When I opened the file (.sxw) in 1.1.4 the outlining worked fine.

When I opened the file (.odt) in 1.9.92 again, it worked fine.

When I opened the file (.sxw) in 1.9.92, it was as user described, the
formatting was wrong.

Marking confirmed.

[tools-issues] [Issue 43254] [PATCH] Don't import OS from environment on Win32

The previous patch makes the usage of DMAKEROOT consistent with the man page
for all OSs in dmake/ .

The removal of SOLARVER UPD INPATH OS UPDMINOREXT from the list of macros
imported from the environment is no problem for our OOo build, as we import
all environment variables in solenv/inc/startup/startup.mk and there is no
special treatment mentioned for these variables in the man page.

Committed to cws_src680_dmake43p01.

Why are you seaching for a function in writer? Are you actually in Calc?

What version are you using? I doubt things will be changed in 1.1 beta 2? Do you
mean the 2.0 beta? Please user Help About to find you build number.

So, basically you want to have the toolbar automatically update with recently
used buttons?

You have included to issues here, if you have a problem with the inactive
buttons' appearance, you need to file a separate issue.

Marking as invalid until more information about the function searching issue is
clarified?

I installed 1.9.92 and then later I wanted to also install 1.9.91 in order to
test some errors and see if they existsed before or not, but when I tried to
install it, it told me I couldn't because I had a newer version already
installed.

It would be nice if I could install backwards. Probably doesn't happen very
often, but I would like to.

I did not try to confirm, but...

Reporting user says it is not and OOo user and several users can't confirm in
later releases. If the reporter still has the issue, please download the latest
developer build, 1.9.91 right now, and try again.

Marking invalid.
