I created new empty presentation. I did not made any changes in style of that
presentation. Then pasted title of presentation from writer document to first
slide. when i saw result, i made undo: text disapeared, but style of pasted text
left. So i had to delete slide, and insert new.

Another related problem - if i paste/undo text to list, i cannot remove that
pasted style nor pressing delete button in line before corupted line neither
pressing backspace in beginning of coruped line.

As i remeber, to insert formula use Insert->object, then choose "Equation bla
bla bla". But by default Equation editor is not installed. You must make custom
instalation and to install Equation editor.

Another advantage of NOT creating a second printer entry in spadmin:

a mobile user with a laptop will continue to see the second spadmin created
printer even when not on the LAN (and the device is not available), the CUPS
printer however will only show up in the printer list when the user is on the
LAN that hosts the device

Please remove the fax swallow option for fax devices from spadmin, use the
current
@@# and @@ (example: @@#5551212@@) to denote that the fax number should be sent
with the document, and create a new identifier .. maybe @@! and @@ (example:
@@!5551212@@) to denote that the fax number should not be sent (ie same as
swallowed in current openoffice terminology) with the document

This would allow users to select on a per document basis whether the fax number
should show or not, rather than the current method of selecting per printer via
spadmin

Could you please coordinate as necessary with the fax4cups developers so that
openoffice could tell when a printer is using the fax4cups drivers and
automatically configure it as a fax device with a command like
lpr -P nameofprinter -o "phone=(PHONE)" (TMP)

This would create a system that would allow openoffice on a *nix based
workstations to automatically use the faxdevices on the LAN without any per
workstation configuration via spadmin (a significant benefit to LAN deployments)

Additionally, fax4cups provides a fax spooler tracking gui for the LAN users via
the CUPS web gui.

This would also allow automatic availability of faxdevices configured in CUPS
through VPN links

Perhaps a flag in the fax4cups driver files or the ppd files would allow
openoffice to determine if the CUPS printer is a faxdevice

/Why/ do you want to reconfigure a *printer* to a fax?

Not sure how else I can explain this ..

Printers created through CUPS automatically show up in the oowriter printer
list. This is really great when you consider the ability of CUPS to
automagically share printers through the LAN.

fax4CUPS allows you to create a printer device in CUPS that reroutes the print
job through the LAN to the machine that has the faxmodem and provides a good web
gui for tracking fax spooler jobs.

The fax4CUPS device automatically shows up in the openoffice printer list AS A
PRINTER !!!

So if I make a new printer in spadmin, there will still be the original listing
from CUPS.

So I would prefer to change the original pinter listing in spadmin (rather than
make a second printer) so that only ONE entry for the faxmodem shows in the
openoffice printer list.

Action: opening an international .csv file from a portuguese release.

Since the floating numbers in the .csv file have "." as decimal
point and the portuguese version is expecting ",", the data
is interpreted as "ascii text" or as "dates" (when "-" is present)
instead of fp numbers!

One should be allowed to choose also the decimal point character
when opening these files.

I don't know if this is the rigth place/release. So I'll begin with
this information first:

Linux (gentoo openoffice-bin)
Version 1.9.104 pt_BR (pt_PT not available yet)
The problem still occurs using it with LANG=en.
Component: Chart on a calc spreadsheet.

Suppose a line (calc) with the following values
 400 450 600
Inserting a chart with these values causes a min value for the
Y scale of 0 and max of 600.
I can not change none of these values to for example
300 and/or 700!

I have narrowed more the issue:

Forget the font file.

Just create a new, empty presentation. Create this formula:
"{r[0] = M[r[2]]; r[1] = r[0]; M[r[0]] = M[r[2]];}"

If press f5 it will look ok, but if you resize the formula and press f5 you will
get the error.

If I turn on the GTK file chooser (Options->General->"Use Openoffice dialogs"),
it becomes impossible to choose format for export (File->Export).

This makes the GTK file chooser wholly unusable for Export.

My Outlook Express AddressBook entries contain mostly contacts without
a "Company", but some include a value there. So I composed a query to get
either the 'personal' or the 'business' entries.

SELECT [some fields]
FROM ""OE Contacts""
WHERE Company IS [NOT] NULL

The results are somewhat strange, especially IS NULL doesn't work (correctly),
because the result set is the total opposite of what is expected.
Here's a list varying the WHERE-clause:

Company IS NOT NULL ' Parse ERROR: Statement too complex!

Company <> NULL ' All business contacts, although invalid SQL!
Company IS NULL ' All business contacts, too!, totally surprising!!!
Company = NULL ' No records, but expected an SQL error (s. a.).

The following depend on how the empty string in the underlying data source is
handled, but they are not consistent anyway (strict SQL says that if either
value in a comparison is NULL, the expression evaluates to UNKNOWN and
therefore, no records should be in the result set):

Company = ''' OK, no records
Company <> '' ' ??, all business contacts

Company LIKE '%'' OK, all business contacts

Connecting to existing dbf files (From Lotus Approach) where there are several
dbf files in the same directory. Want to do a join on fields in two of the
files (tables).

Go to Query Create Query in Design View. This only permits me to select one
table.

Go to Tools-Relationships and get message that "The database does not support
relations."

How can I do joins on existing dbf files?

Thanks

Sorry for that: I thought my 25th May post was clearly stressing the problem
concerned the ' and " glyphs only.
AAMOF I was not caring at all for myself: my curiosity was aroused by somebody
else's message a few weeks ago; a post to 'users' remained unanswered so I
decided to file an issue, just for OOo's good quality sakke ;).

> You are right, the ' at the beginning of the entry is not a regular character.
> It is used to force a value to be treated as text.

Glad to hear that my hypothesis was correct.

> To remove this entry simply search for ".*" (or "[:digit:]*")and replace with
> "&" - this will strip the apostroph.

Could be useful to integrate the Help file accordingly.

Thanks again for your time and best regards,
Ennio.

In the it locale of the m100 beta:
in the Base component the type "integer" is translated to "integrale", which is
wrong.

"Integer" is correctly translated by "intero".

# pkgrm -a ../admin *[^0-9] *core*
  with
# /usr/sbin/pkgadd -n -a ../admin -d . *core* *[^0-9]

Adding an option -n will let the commands omit questions whether

I apologize for bringing this up since I know it was brought up before
(http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=6277
, http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=18204) but I adding a
histogram chart option to the chart wizard make sense to me.

I know the functionality is there using FREQUENCY() and a bar graph, but this is
not intuitive enough for most users/occasions where you have a listing of
data/grades and want to see a distribution. I think MS Excel won against Lotus
123 because it was more intuitive to use for the naive user, and I think Excel
and OOoCalc are guilty of taking a common and simple graph and making it a pain
to create.

I usually end up exporting information in a CSV file to MATLAB for plotting as a
histogram. I can't believe my primary use of MATLAB is for plotting histograms,
and that I'm not the only one who does this. There is a macro for OOoCalc
created by Andy Lewis that creates a histogram available
(http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ooomacros/BoxPlotsHistograms_1-0.zip?download)
but it does not handle alphanumeric's (A+,A,A-,B+,etc).

I know this may seem like a pointless request because the functionality is
already there, but I must repeat that it is not intuitive enough for most users.
I wouldn't mind becoming familiar with OOo development to add such a useful
feature.

Thanks

It would be very nice if OpenOffice.org formula editor would be able to draw
arch above characters.
Check this picture for an example:

Phenomenon:
A directory of installation set remains after uninstallation.

  ls -l /opt/openoffice.org1.9.79/program
  lrwxrwxrwx   1 root other   9 Mar 15 17:36 python -> python.sh
  lrwxrwxrwx   1 root other  17 Mar 15 17:36 python-core -> python-core-2.3.4

Notes:
  - The similar issue for Linux has been reported in the issue 46314.
  - No difference of the shell scripts between 680m79 (2.0bc) and
680m104 can be found.

Reproduction:
  1. Download an installer file for Solaris at
 http://ftp.stardiv.de/pub/OpenOffice.org/developer/680_m104/
  2. Download a file named admin at
 http://ftp.stardiv.de/pub/OpenOffice.org/developer/install_scripts/
  3. Extract the installer file.
  4. Install packages without use of a shell script named install_solaris.sh.
 # bash
 # cd packages
 # /usr/sbin/pkgadd -a ../admin -d . *core* *[^0-9]
  5. Check the installation directory
 # ls /opt/openoffice.org1.9.104
  5. Remove the packages without use of uninstall_solaris.sh.
 # pkgrm -a ../admin *[^0-9] *core*
  6. Confirm if the directory of the installation set is successfully removed.
 Expectation:
   # ls /opt/openoffice.org1.9.104
/opt/openoffice.org1.9.104: No such file or directory
 Reality:
   # ls /opt/openoffice.org1.9.104
   program
That means something remains after uninstallation.

Quick Look:
A package openofficeorg-pyuno has four shell scripts:
openofficeorg-pyuno/install/preinstall
openofficeorg-pyuno/install/postinstall
openofficeorg-pyuno/install/preremove
openofficeorg-pyuno/install/postremove
The file postinstall has lines to create symbolic links described above
while another file postremove has no line to remove the symbolic links.

Possible Options:
  1. Use function of the package managing system. The system can install
and uninstall symbolic links by itself without use of shell scripts.
Please refer to descriptions on "ftype l" in the document at
 http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/806-7008/6jftmsc1n?a=view#ch2buildpkg-19
  2. Add some lines in the shell script postremove to remove the symbolic links.

I tested it again on my SuSE-Box: The toolbar in outline view function now
normal. If I set the cursor in front of the text of the first slide only the
down-button is active. The other buttons are inactive. If I set in front of
the second row also the button to downgrade this text is active (also OK). I
will later look on my WinXP-Box to test it again.
When I downgrade the text in the second row and than upgrade it again there
displays in outline view the text of second row downgraded in slide one and as
title in slide two. This should be another bug.

[sw-issues] [Issue 45177] Wrong editing time statistic reported in Word97/2000/XP *.doc files

I think I understand this now.
This issue must be caused by the import filter (or what does the editing time
translation) - as odt format is not (apparently) affected - which I think
nullifies the hour count when reaching 24 hours. Problem is, there is no day
count that would reflect this. If there is one, pardon me, but it's not
displayed. Anyway, open document files do have hour counts over 24 (even like
1025 - I checked) and (therefore) no day counter, so editing time count for
*.doc files should be probably made the same.

Here is table of editing time count translation from *.doc format into OOo.
(I made it via adjusting the system time while "editing" in MS Word, than
comparing in OOo)

MSWORD* OOo*
(minutes) (hours:minutes)

2881 -) 00:01 (reality: 48:01)
2880 -) 00:00 (reality: 48:00)
2879 -) 23:59 (reality: 47:59)
...
1787 -) 05:47 (reality: 29:47)
...
1441 -) 00:01 (reality: 24:01)
1440 -) 00:00 (reality: 24:00) Nullified, but day counter is missing.
1439 -) 23:59 OK
1434 -) 23:54 OK
1382 -) 23:02 OK
1322 -) 22:02 OK

* Versions: MS WORD 2000; OOo 1.9.100 (brief-checked 1.1.0 and 1.1.4: seem to
behave the same way)

You see this issue is clearly caused by a day-count-feature idea being
implemented somewhere. As stated before, I think this should be removed so that
hour counter would be "the last" (as with *.odt files), of course it must not
be limited to "0-24" then.

Sadly, I can't fix it in the source code, I am no programer.

Revision: It is *not* fixed.

My mistake, I checked that only in W98's shell extension (rightclick,
properties, and so on). Curiosly, while in shell extension everything is OK, MS
Word still reports 0 minutes, revision 1. If you save the file then (in MS
Word), this is reported in the shell extension as well.

Seems OOo can satisfy windows shell with its fake-doc, but not MS office...

Issue unsolved yet, then...

liz->eike:

My research shows:
Alternate names GREENLANDIC ESKIMO, GREENLANDIC, KALAALLISUT
http://www.ethnologue.com/14/show_language.asp?code=ESG

"Kalaallisut" or also "Kalaallisut (Greenland)" is what it says on CLDR
http://www.unicode.org/cldr/data/diff/main/kl_GL.html

I'm going to assume that the most politically correct name is "Kalaallisut" and
that that is what the speakers of that language would be looking for on an
English UI, but maybe for further clarification we should include the addition?

If we don't use GREENLANDIC in English, then I don't think we should use just
Grönlndisch in German. At http://www.dosco.de/wiss-sprach-undlandercodes.htm
I
found
"Kalaallisut (Grönland)" and at
http://www.pruefziffernberechnung.de/Begleitdokumente/ISO-Codes.shtml
 "Kalaallisut (Grönlndisch)"

As our language lists use the country in parentheses if a language appears more
than once, I suggest using "Kalaallisut (Greenland)" and "Kalaallisut
(Grönlnd)" and since it is also spoken in Denmark, also listing "Kalaallisut
(Denmark)" and "Kalaallisut (Danmark)" but I'm not sure if that is in the sense
of the upcoming CLDR unicode standard.

Eike, what do you think? I had trouble understanding what the latest status is
on the CLDR site.

HI
A couple of years ago I moved lang/www/it/* to it/www/*. Project "lang" has
since been expunged. In the
move, it seems that some cvs directories were imported incorrectly, resulting
in error messages when I try
to modify files in, say, it/www/contribuire/*. I receive: "User louis doesn't
have
access to project lang". The problem is that cvs thinks that the file is still
in project lang. I can't change
that, ops can.

Am filing a duplicate issue on PCN, but this one will assign to support for
tracking.

dvo: Good catch. Fixed in dvoqbfix4.

The class in question is a re-implementation of another class of unknown
provenience, which would probably not allow re-distribution under OOo. Hence, I
simply copied the interface of that original class and replaced it with an
STL-based implementation. The set(..) method of the original class would return
0/1 (depending on the success of the operation). Since we don't make any use of
this return value in our code, there was no misbehaviour.

I changed the return type to void. That seems the cleanest thing, and it shoud
do away with the warning.

If you only care about the ' why mention the other things in this issue, making
it more difficult to identify the problem.

You are right, the ' at the beginning of the entry is not a regular character.
It is used to force a value to be treated as text.

To remove this entry simply search for ".*" (or "[:digit:]*")and replace with
"&" - this will strip the apostroph.

I'm still not clear chere your problem is.

You CAN use fax4cups. You can use *anything* that accepst a postscript document.
You don't need to set-up a printer and then convert it to a fax - why would you
do that?

So please answer the question:

/Why/ do you want to reconfigure a *printer* to a fax?

I will attach a sample document that contains nothing but a group of linked
graphics files (the actual files reside on the Internet and the Word document
contains only the links).

If I try to import this document (or any other with embedded linked graphics
files) into OOo it hangs. This is 100% repeatable and occurred with 100% of the
documents I have with linked graphics files.

I found a similar problem with OOo Impress also, and I wouldn't be surprised if
Calc is similarly affected.

Liz->BC: The translators have been told to honor the 10 character limit, so
despite your workaround, it is not right to allow the incorrect length in the
English source.

You are in charge of the source, so please correct the strings: I copied the
already existing short names from what showed up in the Table wizard onscreen.
They are also in the resource file
officecfg\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office\TableWizard.xcu

If the automatically generated short names your fallback solution creates have
to be kept, please correct the strings to those fallback short names. (for
example, if the same short names are not allowed to be used in two different
cases, which is what would be the result of the changes here:)

Upon import, Impress crashes (the bar at the bottom is half-way from complete
import).

This bug occured in 1.9.100, but is recurrent from the previous beta version.
Reproduced on different hardware/language setting (but on the same OS: WinXP).

Powerpoint viewer 2003
(http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Microsoft_PowerPoint_Viewer/1041874457/1)
just opens the file fine. I believe powerpoint does the same. The attached file
contains 3D inside.

As seen the problem is that osl_resolveHostName is called very often and for
*some* URLs it's also quite expensive.

Example:
http://www.sun.com/images/b1/b1_nc_05q2_d.jpg - slow
http://www.heise.de/icons/ho/heise.gif - fast

I tested with proxy settings "System".

[framework-issues] [Issue 37020] multiple warnings about disabled Java appear when opening Macro Selector

In writer without a Java RTE I inadvertently clicked the Macro tab in picture
properties. Then I clicked Background. I think I got to background before the
Java message arrived - but now I am stuck in what seems like an interminable
loop of repeating error messages.

The only option is to kill the job and risk losing my work...

This is not a good UI for the uninitiated. It's OK for me - I know OOo doesn't
(usually) lose my work, it has a fantastic recovery system.

And as a bug reporter I can find this information, and try for a bit longer to
confirm that the loop is indeed finite, and after enough OKs it starts to behave
properly.

But we really should try to get this sorted out before the masses flock to see
our genuinely superb version 2. Can't we disable the tab if it really does need
Java, and there isn't one?

Hi Ian,
Under Tools/Customize/Toolbars/More Controls, if you select Pattern field, the
Description area says 'Creates a pattern field'.
In French Outils/Personnaliser/Barre d'Outils/Autres contrôles, pattern field
translation in FR is [Champ masqué] and the description area says [Crée une
zone
de motif.] where it should be [Crée un champ masqué.].

So please, could you replace the string [Crée une zone de motif.] by this one
[Crée un champ masqué.] in the Description area.
Kind regards - Sophie

Yes, the workaround in the database component does not fix all the scenarios.
The storage-package problem is fixed, thus I close the issue 49911 as a
duplicate of this one.

MAV->QA: The fix requires thorough testing, all the areas related to the
document loading, storing, reloading and etc. should be tested.

[graphics-issues] [Issue 49964] New - Powerpoint presentations with linked objects crash Impress (even after conversion to ODP)

  Issue #:|49964
Summary:|Powerpoint presentations with linked objects crash
  |Impress (even after conversion to ODP)
Component:|Presentation
  Version:|OOo 2.0 Beta
 Platform:|PC
  URL:|
   OS/Version:|Linux
   Status:|UNCONFIRMED
Status whiteboard:|
 Keywords:|
   Resolution:|
   Issue type:|DEFECT
 Priority:|P2
 Subcomponent:|open-import
  Assigned to:|wg
  Reported by:|nlogax

I am migrating a user to OOo and have had 100% repeatable crashes of their
system (often hanging X entirely) when OOo tries to display a slide (or even the
preview image in the slide navigator at left) from an imported Powerpoint
presentation that includes hyperlinked objects (in this case, images).

In creating the document in PowerPoint, the user had gone to a web page and had
somehow pasted links to the images instead of pasting copies of the images.

Even after exporting the document into OOo Open Document Presentation (ODP)
format, the system would still freeze when attempting to display the page that
had the hyperlinked images.

I deleted just the linked images from the Powerpoint presentation (which also
contains many other locally-sourced images) using Powerpoint on Windows, and
then imported them again and the problem disappeared. I guess it is possible
that this bug also affects other OOo components too, and it would be worthwhile
testing to see.

nn->sab: The shown notes for all sheets are collected (AddNoteObj) in
CollectSharedData/CollectInternalShape, and then for each sheet the non-shown
notes are collected in CollectShapesAutoStyles, so they are not sorted by sheet
number, but the loop at the end of CollectShapesAutoStyles stops at the first
entry past the current sheet.
