[framework-issues] [Issue 54586] Cannot open files via NFS on mis-configured Linux machines
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=54586 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Sep 14 23:35:22 -0700 2005 --- AFAIK file-locking is also needed by the storage implementation and the GNOME .recently-used functionality. However, these affect only the users $HOME and the OOo program directory - if both are on the local disk, one still needs no locking daemon. Given that a NFS locking has multiple problems (e.g. the lock is removed when the file get's opened a second time by the same process), my preferred approach would be to: 6. Change the document handling not to use locking, but to compare the access time of the file before overwriting it with the access time when the file was opened. In case these don't match, tell the user the file has changed on disk and ask whether (s)he would like to overwrite the file anyway, pick a new name for it or cancel the save operation. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. For example (using French words) : I type the word "Editer", the 1.x spellchecker proposes the two words "Éditer" and "éditer". The 2.0 spellchecker proposes only "éditer". Also, just like the previous test program, you can run it without arguments for all cases for N = 0 to 100 in comparison to the old algorithm. It was a "pass" on my machine. The major difference from my first submitted algorithm is that the new algorithm does not put those factorial elements that would be removed later, thus avoiding the unnecessary expansion and shrinkage of the containers. For example, in my first algorithm, sometimes the container expanded to over 10, only to be reduced to 50 later on. That was way inefficient, and caused the calculation to take way too much time. Because of this improvement, a scenario that took over 10 seconds to complete by my first algorithm is now reduced to a fraction of a second. Note that my new algorithm handles large values pretty good. I have also switched from using multiset to using a sorted vector, which resulted in an extra 50% performance increase. set/multiset is designed to be efficient when a good mix of insertion, search, erasure is involved. But because my new algorithm only does insertion, I considered vector to be the better choice, and it is indeed. :-) I will prepare a patch sometime after tomorrow. I have to go sleep now. The problem generally arises on systems whose original Mac OS X version was >10.2. Apple used some non-ISO values ("English", etc.) for locales in early versions and didn't upgrade those settings on upgrade to 10.2/10.3/10.4 (10.2 debuted with sensible values). FWIW, on an end-user level, this "bad locale value" bug can be worked around by deselecting the desired languages in System Prefs, quitting System Prefs, reopening and re-adding the desired languages, which will then be stored in the proper format (en, en_US, etc.). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I was unable to find it previousely posted when I searched. I am using OOo 1.9.122 (Beta 2) on windows XP SP2 When Defining the Paths using Tools>Options>General>Paths Under the My documents section you can define the directory in which you would like files to be Saved to using the "Save As" Function. I believe there should be a selectable option to make this the location where OOo can default to, when OPENING documents. Currently, OOo looks in the directory where the last document was opened from on a previous occasion. Allthough this is useful, I believe it would be nice to add a Definable path feature for those who wish to use it. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. OpenOffice 1.9.125 Win XP sp2 Create foo.ods with one cell that has one callout (says "greetings"). Save it. Load foo.ods, save as foo2.ods with no changes. Load foo2.ods, save as foo3.ods. Open foo3.ods and click on "greetings", move the box, an identical one is underneath it. Click on the 2nd greetings, there is a 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th greetings box but not a 9th. If we save-as'd the original foo3.ods, the f004 would have 2^4=16 greetings callouts instead of 8. -- cem kaner - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The bulletted list (as in Slide test.odp) looks like what I expected and I get essentially the same thing in OO1.1.4. The original report says "The text of the bulleted list of the summary slide is not newline, and the position of the text is the left." Each bullet is on a new line in the slideset that I see (e.g. Slide test.odp) and the text appears to be left-justified (with a hanging indent for the left-side bullet). To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=54625 Issue #:|54625 Summary:|Cannot click on all text in editor window when |maximized Component:|Word processor Version:|OOo 2.0 Beta Platform:|PC URL:| OS/Version:|Windows XP Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|editing Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|snurfle --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Sep 14 18:54:01 -0700 2005 --- When editing a document, and Writer is maximized, there is a seemingly randomly occuring problem with the "I-Beam" placement. There is an area about 2/3 of the way down the window (always in the same place ), about 2 lines of 12-point text tall, that is inaccessible. I cannot click and select in this area; rather I must either scroll the text up or down below this area, or use the shift-arrow keys. It does not do this on every document, only about 50% of the time. But once it happens to a document, there is nothing I can do to get rid of it. It is apparently saved with the document, because once a document "gets" this problem, then saving, exiting, rebooting... it always comes back with an "infected" document. (Norton anti-virus finds nothing.) There is no visual cue that lets me know when it has happened, so I am unable to determine what steps to take to re-create it. The only thing that is out of the ordinary, is that once it has happened, whenever my mouse moves over this area, the icon changes from an I-beam to a standard pointer, then back to the I-beam after I have moved off of the area. I have open office installed on two different machines; an 'infected' file shows up with the 'null area' on both machines. Could this be an open-office-specific virus? I have a 20" trinitron monitor; when it gets screwed up, the affected erea ALWAYS shows up just above the lower of the two dark stripes that trinitrons have. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. However, I requested "Odd" and "Even". I never understood, until reading the response to my input as it was being "closed", that "Left" really means "Even" and "Right" really means "Odd" (if I got that straight). So, why don't we re-open this and change the recommendation to be: "Change the "Left" option to read "Left or Even" and the "Right" option to "Right or Odd"? (if I got it right - it is not intuitive.) -Justification: One shouldn't have to report a bug or ask someone in a forum how to do something that is already in the system, but is not labeled so as to be intuitively obvious to a new user. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Finish recording the macro, and save it - I used the suggested default location. Now use Tools - Macros - Run Macro... to try to run this new macro. I get a pop-up error message which says, "Inadmissible value or data type. Index out of defined range." It seems to be right: the body of my new macro goes like this: dim args1(2) as new com.sun.star.beans.PropertyValue args1(0).Name = "URL" args1(0).Value = "file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Mark/My%20Documents/Cycling%20Campaign/Newsletter/NL62/Copy/test.doc" args1(1).Name = "FilterName" args1(1).Value = "MS Word 97" args1(4).Name = "SelectionOnly" args1(4).Value = true ...and I can see that args1(4) is a nonsense. I probably didn't have enough patience. It didn't feel very intuitive that it did that way (your step 3). Especially since these quick icons normally (As in any software pretty much) would do the same as the menuitem would do. this is obviously not the case here, meaning that it's not a "bug" as in feature not working, but rather a bug as in UI wise. Maybe I'm wrong here, but wouldn't it simply feel wrong if OOo was different from other softwares when it comes to how quick icons act vs menu items? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sc-issues] [Issue 54587] password protection gets useless
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=54587 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Sep 14 12:02:02 -0700 2005 --- Hi all, Maybe I'm the one to blame, when talking about confusion. I was the first to mention file-protection, when philosophying about the problem and possible quick solutions for the user. So the question is not about keeping password-protection on file level. The wish is: keep password-protection in sheet/workbook level on a save as. (NB The Help associated with the Tools|Document protection |Sheet/Workbook, is the explanation for file-protection. Anyway in the Dutch 1.1.2 / 1.9.125) If it is technically hard, one could consider to ask, at a save-as action, for the password that is used for sheet/workbook protection. Fairly easy, and thus only the one who knows the password, is able to remove it. Reading the issues, mentioned bij Niklas (8426 and 29387), as well as # 402, I do not get the idea that the question as raised in this issue 54587, has been considered closely. It's about keeping the workbook (not password-) protected for different file formats. Isn't it? Greetings - Cor - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=54587 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Sep 14 10:15:46 -0700 2005 --- If there is any confusion, not on my side! I have never used the words "password protected file". Therefore I did not understand your reactions. I have based my argumentation on the programm itself which shows options like protect cells, sheets and document with a password. Don't blame me! I am just a user who wants to take advantage of the promising, excelent protection function of Ooo. It's my sence of logic, as a layman, that says that it is stupid to rule out this fine option by the desire to make it possible to save every document in a MS standard. Let Ooo be the standard and not MsOffice! - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. In the master page of my presentations, I use a penguin image which is also used in some of my slides. To avoid duplicating the image file data within my document, I want to paste the image from a given slide to the master page. The problem is I didn't manage to paste anything (such as image or text box objets) into my master slide. On the opposite, there is no problem copying objets from the master page into a regular slide. Try by yourself with http://free-electrons.com/issues/ooo_sep14_2005/copytomaster.odp ! That's not a critical issue, as I can still insert the same image file using Insert -> Picture -> From File. However, this results in a bigger document file, as the image file is included twice. What do you think? Cheers, Michael. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
