I'm talking about the document entitled cje_madpenguin_florian_reuter_08.odt. The .sxw version of that document renders just fine in OOo 1.1.3, but in OOo 2.0 rc, the letters look jagged and fuzzy, as if they were printed by one of those old dot matrix printers from 20 years ago. I hope that this bug report is helpful. I only tested it with Albany and Thorndale fonts, so I don't know about other fonts. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=55364 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Oct 5 21:33:26 -0700 2005 --- Issue 39567 addresses icons. Issue 55364 addresses the actual printing operation. Envelopes are normally inserted into the right-hand slot of the HP 970cse, with the flap to the left, as viewed from the front. Inserting the envelope with the flap right usually causes a paper jam. Current versions of OOo Beta 2 (and version 1.1.4) print envelopes such that the flap must be on the right for proper printing orientation with Linux drivers. this almost always causes a paper jam. Orientation is correct in the Windows versions (insertion with flap on the left). Dave - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 55513] New - Sort function doesn' t work properly in Writer tables
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=55513 Issue #:|55513 Summary:|Sort function doesn't work properly in Writer tables Component:|Word processor Version:|OOO 2.0 Beta2 Platform:|PC URL:| OS/Version:|Windows XP Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|editing Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|asc212 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Oct 5 18:48:24 -0700 2005 --- Hello, I found two previously reported issues relating to the sort function not working in writer tables: numbers 961 and 51498. In both cases, it said that either it was a non-issue or that it had been fixed. That really doesn't seem to be the case. I had a similar problem with both 1.1.2 and 1.1.5 and it seems to be the same with 2.0 beta2. In the previous versions, I had table of 15 rows and 2 columns. In this case, I entered 7 rows worth of text, selected the entire table and then sorted in ascending order. The cursor would move to the bottom of the table, but no sorting would occur. I also tried it by just selecting the rows with data and got the same result. Now with 2.0 beta2 what happens is that the table will sort except for the first row which won't move. It doesn't matter whether the table is completely full or not and I've tried tables in 3 different documents with the same results. As with previous versions, I get the same result whether I select the whole table or just the completed rows. Although I'm really not a computer guy, I'm quite sure it's not me. The instructions are very straightforward. I've also used the table sort function in WordPerfect without difficulty. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I'll try to make a wrong file for you :-) Ah, I've made a new presentation for test purposes, I'll upload it for you. It contains an empty dia and I saved it when having the cursor in a textbox so it could be editing it. Now, if I open it in Powerpoint 2003, it says "The selected file does not appear to be a valid Microsoft PowerPoint file. It might be another kind of Microsoft Office file or a file created by using a different product. Try double-clicking the file in Windows Explorer to see if another program will open it. If PowerPoint opens again when you double-click the file in Windows Explorer, it is possible that the file is not actually a PowerPoint file but that it's extension was renamed to be that of a registered PowerPoint file type (.ppt, .pps, or .pot). To determine which program can open the file, try any of the following: Contact the original author (if known) to find out which program was used to create this file. Then rename the file with the correct extension so that it can be opened by that program. Try opening the file in other programs. If you, or someone you know, are very knowledgeable about software, examine the file header in a text editor to determine which program can read the file. Another possibility is that the file was damaged during transfer over a modem. If the file was transmitted over a modem, try re-transmitting the file. Lastly, the file might have become corrupted. If you have a backup copy of the file, use it. It is not currently possible to reverse file corruption. ". If continuous text is entered, the text will continue past the end of the box. In my opinion, the user should have the ability to "break" the text (e.g., through pressing SHIFT + ENTER) within the text box. Also, the text should wrap and continue to do so until the bottom right side of the text box is reached. At that point, the designer should have the option of having a scroll bar appear so that text can continue to be entered (similar to the HTML funtionality). [graphics-issues] [Issue 53506] Terminology for templates , master pages, slide masters is confusing
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=53506 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Oct 5 15:01:50 -0700 2005 --- Justin Kelley said: "Based on the example given, I'm not sure I agree with the terms being confusing. A background template can be considered an element of the overall slide design. "I then went over to PowerPoint and viewed the terminology over there, which isn't much different." That answer really baffles me. OK, "A" can be considered part of "B", but where is that explained in the documentation? Does that excuse the multiplicity of terms used for (what may or may not be) the same thing? Because the PowerPoint documentation on this is a mess, does that mean that OOo shouldn't strive to be better? Is MS the criterion on this? How hard would it be to clean up the UI and documentation to be CONSISTENT and CLEAR on this? Why not set a good example? I note also that in the Impress Forum, many of the questions are from folks puzzled about customizing their presentations. Hello? Doesn't that seem to say that there is something amiss? [framework-issues] [Issue 54320] Paragraph Style's Default settings
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=54320 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Oct 5 14:47:23 -0700 2005 --- We could start to incorporate this issue in time for 2.0. Quick Evaluation: - A Writer document prepared with OOo 1.1 or earlier will be showed in a slightly different way with to-be-revised OOo 2.0 if the following two conditions are true at the same time: - a user did not touch a check box for the wrapping punctuation on the 1.1 - a punctuation character is about to be placed at the end of line on the 2.0 Otherwise, the text layout will not be changed at all. Even the layout gets changed slightly, it could be acceptable. - that's my thoughts, though - An OOo 1.1 Writer document, for example, with an inactivated check box for hanging characters - the default setting of 1.1 is activated - would be displayed on the to-be-revised OOo 2.0 in an exactly same way as OOo 1.1 does. Because once a user touch the check box for it, the setting that the user has specified will be included in either content.xml as an auto style or styles.xml as in the stylist. Therefore, OOo 2.0 can layout texts properly following the setting. - A Writer document prepared with a to-be-revised OOo 2.0 will be treated in the similar way as mentioned above by the OOo 1.1.5 or earlier. - Importing a Word document and exporting a Writer document into Word file should be evaluated soon. - The change of the default setting would be made for all language variants of OOo regardless of language. Otherwise, the text layout could not keep consistency among language variants of OOo. - In general, this change of the default setting will have no impact on the European variants of OOo. - No change should be made at this moment for Calc, Impress, Draw, or a text of drawing objects. - For a long term solution, this kind of settings could be moved from a source code to a configuration file. - In the near future, something regarding this change should be mentioned in the online help. - In the next major version, 1.1 compatible mode for this change can be considered. [sw-issues] [Issue 55506] New - Oversized wrap spaci ng in large formula objects
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=55506 Issue #:|55506 Summary:|Oversized wrap spacing in large formula objects Component:|Word processor Version:|OOo 2.0 Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|All Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|formatting Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|msowka --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Oct 5 13:42:47 -0700 2005 --- This problem only occurs when the line spacing is greater than Single (e.g. 1.5, Double, and greater), and when the formula is composed of more than one line. When inserting large formulas with "As Character" anchoring (this is the way it's normally done) with greater than Single spacing, Writer seems to overload on the spacing (above/below) for the formula object. We're talking about magnitues of spacing more than it should, not just a few pixels (to adjust for the larger symbols in the formula). In the case of regular hard returns, the spacing is added to the bottom of the line containing the formula. In the case of soft returns, the spacing is added to the top and actually appears to be part of the Wrap Spacing (of course it's set to 0 in the objects properties). The latter is where I actually first notice d the problem... couldn't figure it out for the life of me, and in the end had to anchor my equations to the page! THE ATTACHED DOCUMENT ILLUSTRATES THIS PROBLEM PERFECTLY Let me know how else I can help, Mike P.S. Is there an open issue for achoring in general... LOVE OOo, but it's object anchoring scheme is a big thorn in my side. Do you want to print a form letter" choice yes, no, help. Choosing yes brings up a menu to choose which records to print. Using cntrl P or file, print on OOo2 beta and 2 on a Windows 98 OS PC only brings up the standard print menu making mail merge impossible. I have tested on various of the Betas of OOo2 and assumed it was me, now tested on linux with ubuntu and it works fine. Also asked on Discuss forum and the windows performance appears to be a bug. Since mail merge works well on OOo1.1. it would be a real shame to loose it for Windows 98 since personally we still have software we cannot access under linux. We regularly need to print a selection of pages from medium sized data bases which the selection menu above does well. The mail merge wizard needs to merge the whole database so for anything other than one offs it is a pain. Hope this is useful. [sc-issues] [Issue 55414] Backslash+space and blank characters not handled correctly for self-def ined format of number
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=55414 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Oct 5 10:26:13 -0700 2005 --- This is what I get with my 2.0.0rc1_050923 (installed from binary) version, czech langpack. (1a) Not possible to set formating to `#,##\\A_B\C`, because of the first backslash+space. If you use only `#,##\A_B\C`, then it is not valid. Try only `#,##\`. No change to formatting is done (I cannot see anything, also nothing in formatting dialog). I can try this several times and no space appears after a number. This is a clear bug for me (priority 2). I also figured out problem with saving to XLS format, where the backslash+space is saved as space only - this is not processed by Excel and then also not processed by OpenOffice (save to XLS and open it with OpenOffice again) - also see note at the end. (1b) Try to use formatting `#,##""_A_B`. You should see the change immediately (not as in 1a). Try to save this to XLS format and open it again. Formatting is broken - `#,##_A_B` - nothing displayed. This is maybe problem of exporting/importing XLS files. (2) When you go to formatting dialog, it should show original `#,##A_BC`, not `#,##AC` - if you use _W, then it is like , which do not correspond to real width of W (so the function is not working, replacing the real width of character with spaces is not generally a good idea). If you save the same into XLS format, the formatting is retained (shown as `#,##\A_B\C`). Note: I found troubles with this while operating XLS file, which contained format `#,##\_A_B`. After opening in OpenOffice and storing back in XLS I had format (in Excel) `#,##_A_B`, which is invalid. Everything what I wanted to show should be done like this: Do some change and look back in formatting dialog, if it is shown the same way (same format as enterred or equal). Save into the file and open the file again (try both ODS and XLS formats). Check the number shown in cell and also formatting dialog, if the highlited line still contains correct (unchanged) format. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
