Hi Cor, I would believe the problem is Windows 98 related; still, it is there
only in conjunction with OOo. The appearance of the problem does not matter on
whether I have any other applications running or not; I usually have FreeMind
and FireFox running. When FreeMind and FireFox are running, and OOo is not, I
can hibernate the laptop without problems. Dan

Either a bug or 2 very related bugs here, behaviour tested in OOo X11 2.1, 2.1
, and winxx 2.2:

1) Create 2 spreadsheet docs test1 & test2, enter values and save each.
2) Creat a cell reference link in test1 with the source cell in test2. Save
both docs again.
3) Update the contents of the source cell in test2 and save test2.
There's no way to update the contents of the target (linked) cell in test1,
short of deleting the formula
and re-establishing the link again (and sometimes the new cell link will still
show the OLD value from
test2 as its new value). F9 and Tools-Cell Contents-Recalculate do nothing. On
closing both docs and
re-opening them, opening test1 brings up an alert giving you the option to
update cell references from
other docs, but it doesn't actually update the value. (Incidentally, this alert
comes up even after you
delete the cross-doc cell reference - presumably if the reference is saved in
edit history or something -
so it offers to update cell references that are no longer in the current
spreadsheet!)

The side-issue possible 2nd bug here is that sometimes if in (1) you then edit
the values in test2 and
re-save the doc, on performing (2) you get the old pre-edit cell value from
test2 instead of the current
value when you first set up the reference link.

This deserves an update.

I preformed the same steps tonight as I did the other night, bringing the calc
data into an embedded Base database - My machine was running just about the same
mix as the other night also

but using 2.3m_210

Time to import data dropped to 10 min 2 seconds.

Another BIG difference - system responsiveness. The CPU is still pegged during
the transfer BUT OOo is offering up clock cycles much, much more often now. I
could work with the other applications almost as if the process was not
screaming along. Someone put the word 'Cooperative' into Base on Windows it
seems :>)

It also appeared that total memory used by the soffice.bin process was less then
on 2.2, but I will need to run a few more tests before I can say for sure.

Now I see - "Mouse pointer" speed does not seem to cause the problem,
but "Enhance precision" does. If I uncheck it and set zoom to 25% or 50% then
I can reproduce the problem - middle vertical border it difficult to "pickup"
and I get "Adjust row" hint. All other borders do not have this problem.

Confirming with 2.2 on WinXP.

Steps to reproduce.

Insure that Quickstarter is running

Open the attached file.

Use the New Form Wizard to create a simple form based on table Assets

Close the new form

Close the Base file

OOo will display dialog box asking to Save, Discard or Cancel

Choose Discard

Now open the Base file again

The new form was not discarded. In fact the file is still 'Modified' as the save
icon is enabled. If you close the file now you will again be prompted to save,
discard or cancel.

If you exit OOo completely by closing Quicstarter then open the file once again
the form is now discarded and the save icon is now disabled.

To further test this I did the following:

Made sure Quickstarter 2.3 was running

Opened the Base file, added the form, then closed the Base file telling OOo to
discard the changes

Switched to a different user account on the computer

Started OOo 2.2 stable and opened the same Base file ( Note, I checked that
there was no *.lck file left for this ODB file, there was none. )

The file is opened in read only mode, the form that was created in the prior
step is not visible.

Closed the Base file in OOo 2.2

Switched back to the first user session

Opened the Base file with OOo 2.3 again - the form is again displayed in the
forms list and the file is still marked as 'modified'.

Finally - I tried this with a Writer file also. This problem does not occur.

Steps to replicate:

1) Start impress.
2) Insert "Title, Text" layout. Insert some text in title.
3) Set text of title with "text animation effects" and "custom animation".
4) Slideshow, title text is not visible.

Test on OOo-dev 2.3_m210. From m197 is like this, chart2mst3

[dba-issues] [Issue 69979] Dispose locks database (bu g or feature)

It is a bug but the questions is - in your script or that fact that Basic can
dispose of it.

The Developers Guide, Chapter 13, clearly states that:

"The database context is a container for data sources. It is a singleton, that
is, it may exist only once in a running OpenOffice.org API instance and can be
accessed by creating it at the global service manager of the office."

So, you should not dispose of it.

Whether Basic should be allowed to do so is another question. I tried your
script and yes it does just what you say - OOo must be restarted after the call
to oDbContext.dispose() in order to work with any datasource, not just run your
script a second time.

After the call to dispose if a Base file is opened, for example, an attempt to
create a connection to it simply fails - quietly. No error message is displayed
to the user.

I tested this under OOo 2.2 stable on WinXP.

Perhaps someone on the API team, or the team responsible for the Basic script
engine, should look at this and make the call. My personal opinion is that this
is not a bug, as if the script programmer disposes of the context object then
that is a bug in the script.

I've added some notes to various cells, and subsequently sorted the data.
Although the cell locations have moved, the notes haven't - eg data that was
originally in cell N28 and was resorted to cell A28 still has the note in cell
N28.

So, we should download the latest CVS for testing the new code or is there a
particular build we should acquire? I'm definitely ready to try this on 36"x56"

I'm trying to get OpenOffice.org to run under COM/DCOM for use on an
unattended server.

To do this I create a Component Package under COM+. It works fine. However if
I change the user from the Interactive User (me) to a named user (also me)
then I start getting errors when I try to create an instance of the Service
Manager.

"Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {82154420-0FBF-11D4-
8313-005004526AB4} failed due to the following error: 80080005." [Server
execution failed]

I know the documentation for OpenOffice.org says that the identity of the
service manager must be set to “Interactive User”. However it doesn't explain
why and it shouldn't be necessary.

I enclose a simple test case to demonstrate the issue.

file on it, or any other Windows computer, until 1 May. But, is this file
really necessary now, as dr says he can confirm the problem, and he knows how to
fix it? I think we just need to be patient, and let him do that.

The Page Preview function should allow interactive editing like Microsoft Word
2000.

This function would allow for much better ability to place elements in relation
to other pages due to the high-level overview. For example matching alignment
of a call-out or other floating element on multiple pages.

This enhancement would simply allow for interactive editing of document
contents while in Page Preview mode. The advantage of this over simply zooming
out is that pages in Page Preview mode display side-by-side, which aids the
alignment and overall layout comparison.

In documents with one or more frames with text content, when attempting to use
a mouse drag-select action to select text inside a frame, if the user moves the
mouse off of the document edit area the text selecting direction will invert.

For example if a user has a long frame of text that they wish to select from
top to bottom, they would click at the top then hold the mouse button and drag
downward. Since they wish to select the entire text, the natural and learned
behavior from other applications is to move the mouse all the way to the bottom
of the window. In other applications this will continue the selection until the
end of the frame or document is reached. In OO Writer as soon as you move the
cursor outside the document edit area (over the toolbars at the bottom or onto
the Start menu), the text will suddenly start unselecting itself in an upward
direction until it reaches the original selection start location, where it will
then begin selecting text above this point.

Specific Steps:

1: Create new OO Writer document
2: Insert a frame with dimensions at least 6"x6"
3: Fill frame completly with text
4: Left-click at top or middle of text in frame and drag downward to select
5: With left-button stilled held down, move cursor down to bottom of OO window
into the toolbar area or Start bar

Result: Text selection will begin to invert.

I will also attach a document which shows this behavior when the steps above
are followed. Tested on 00 2.2 and 2.1.

I would have been surprised to see a Base specialist here, so no, I'm not
confusing with fs but it's an old typo with me :-)

I'll try tomorrow with a fresh .rpm install of OOo on my Ubuntu version. However
the thread on the fr users list and my tests show that it's reproducible on the
stable localized 2.2.0 Windows XP version.

AHHH - I believe I've made some progress on this issue.

The MOUSE POINTER MOVEMENT SPEED is a significant variable!

If you set the mouse pointer speed high, then it jumps a certain number of
pixels at a time, and it actually jumps over the tolerance for selecting the
vertical table lines in OpenOffice.

If you set the mouse pointer speed low, then you can't see this problem.

The same problem is not visible in MS word where it works even when zoomed out a
long way with high mouse pointer speed.

I wouldn't put it quite as strongly as billmichaelson above. However, the
seriousness of this problem - and the little attention it has gotten - has kept

As part of the Cairo Canvas porting work, I have create code documentation for
the functions that are
important in the porting work.

The attached patch does not have any functionality changes.

A couple of implementations for functions were moved from header (.hxx) to
source file (.cxx), so that all
the documentation would be available in the same place (i.e. source file).

thb: Could this be added as part of cws presfixes12?

When autofilter is selected, a mark is added on the left of the menu item and
the autofilter is correctly enabled and working.

When a cell inside the autofilter area is selected, the mark on the autofilter
menu item is visible and the autofilter can be switched off by selecting the
menu item.

On the contrary, when a cell outside the autofilter area is selected, the mark
on the menu item disappears and the autofilter cannot be switched off. Instead
an error message window reports "Autofilter not possible".

For sure only one autofilter area should be active at every moment but the user
interface does not help user to activate and deactivate the autofilter function.

I came to this thread from issue 75433 which was my report of the problem and
has been marked duplicate. Someone advised me to "vote" for this issue. But I
can see from the long tails on these threads, laced with philosophical
declarations about how "Excel is broken", and "we are the good guys", that this
serious problem will always be present. So I'll have to use the only solution
available to me.

I'll just use Excel. It works for me, I can interchange spreadsheets with
others without headaches and I trust it. And since I'll have Excel, I don't
need OO Calc anymore. Good luck.

Thanks for your time.

>> How does the cursor look like after applying the style
>> to the rectangle? Is it still the paintcan?

after aplying the style the cursor/pointer was still the paintcan.

When I did this exercise previously I did in fact de-select the paintcan,
getting the arrow pointer back.

For me the rectangle still could not be selected with a mouse click. Note in a
previous report that I mentioned I could select the rectagle by clicking and
dragging the pointer to create a selection rectangle all around the drawing
rectangle - the paintcan does not allow you to select objects that way.

I just now opened the saved document I sent you and verified that with a normal
pointer (arrow) I cannot select the rectangle with just a mouse click. I need
to drag the pointer to include the whole rectangle to select the rectangle.

I can select the text box that is on the drawing.

Hmmm... it is not nice to complain when you don't have time to contribute ...
but even though I think the second button looks not bad ( ;) ), I am not sure
whether it is good to place it next to the green buttons for reasons earlier
posted on the [EMAIL PROTECTED] list, mainly coming down to increased confusion
among
first time visitors. Some of my spare time however is going into thinking about
the problem, and when I have time to discuss it in more detail I will start a
discussion on [EMAIL PROTECTED]: yes I think it becomes time for rethinking the
entire
homepage again.

If this happens on Linux, it can't be a duplicate of 59251, as that issue is
about the totally Windows-specific problem. But maybe several unrelated problem
scenarios are mixed up here, and one of them is the 59251 one, i.e. opening
documents by double-clicking in Explorer when the file name contains characters
not in the system codepage.

not reproduce.
Please try with version 2.2 and with some common resolutions (like 1024x768 or
suchlike even if that is not native for built-in LCD).
Also specify what DPI setting is used (Display props - Settings tab - Advanced

I discussed in issue 75493 (now closed) a method to enhance the printing /
exporting to pdf of various spreadsheet documents.

I will add those comments to this issue and also expand on some other related
features.

1. SUPPRESS TRAILING EMPTY PAGES
2. TYPES OF EMPTY PAGES
3. IMPLEMENTATION

1. TRAILING EMPTY PAGES
===
When printing / exporting as pdf, I would like to suppress trailing empty pages.

Trailing empty pages are empty pages at the *END of the document*, so they are
almost always annoying. Please note, that this issue is *NOT trivial*.

Unfortunately, when I export dozens of pages, I select to have the *page number*
and the *total number of pages* in the footer. The total number
of pages will count these empty pages, too. Therefore, even IF I manually select
which pages to export to pdf, the *total number of pages* will include these
empty pages. The workaround *define the print range* is really tedious for
anything having more than just a few pages.

IF this is an official document, then the total number of pages will point to
non-existent pages, which will make Calc pretty useless in official settings.
[Documents from governmental sources ALWAYS contain the total number of pages
explicitly stated, so that, whatever page is available, the reader knows how
many pages the document should have.]

A checkbox with *Strip trailing empty pages* seems a really fine solution [this
is NOT equivalent to 'Strip ALL empty pages'].

2. EMPTY PAGES
==
There are a number of types of empty pages:

a.) There are pages that are completely empty, NO hidden cell content, NO EMPTY
cells, NO formulas (evaluating to nothing), NO formatting, nothing.
 - e.g. when the text of row 1 extends beyond the width of one page,
 - YET rows 2- do NOT extend beyond the width of a page
=> row 1 will occupy page 1 and page n
 => rows 2-xxx pring on pages 1 through n-1
=> pages n+1 to 2*(n-1) will be completely empty
(just annoying footer and header)

b.) Pages that contain formulas that evaluate to empty.
 - NO visible elements
 - yet cells are NOT empty (contain formulas OR references that evaluate to
empty)

c.) Pages that contain graphical formatting, yet contain NO other data.
 - e.g. contain various table borders set
BUT NO elements [and neither images/charts]

These are 3 common types of empty pages which should be possible to suppress
*selectively*. [By combining the latter 2 varieties, a number of other
possibilities arise.]

3. IMPLEMENTATION
=
This could be implemented in the following way: when Calc generates the page, it
should set for every page the following properties:
a.) does the page display any data (including charts)?
b.) does the page display any graphical elements?
 [excluding proper/printable data]
c.) does the page contain other elements (e.g. formulas)?

SET GLOBALLY:
 d.) store last NON-EMPTY page
IF a page contains (a.) then any previous EMPTY pages are NOT trailing
pages; ANY page up to 'last NON-EMPTY page' is NOT a trailing empty page

It would be really helpful to extend Calc to support all these features.

Hello,

I'm testing ooo_chart2_milestone11_windows.
In the wizzard, the icons for the different chart types are the same for Line
and XY. This may be confusing.
In the new chart, subtype icons are different from Line and XY (which is a great
improvement from old chart, cf. issue 67849). But when wizzard opens, you can
not see any difference between the two types, and you may choose the wrong one.

Thank's.

Hello,

can you open attached file plop.odt with openoffice 2.2 ? I ran the test on both
windows and linux and I could not load it.
I reproduced the procedure on 2 systems :
- Windows XP + Word 2000 + OpenOffice 2.2
- Windows 2000 + Word 2000 + OpenOffice 2.2

Both of them resulted in ODT files that OOo 2.2 was not able to open.

I insist on the fact that OOo 2.1 CAN open such a file.

svtools/ source/ hatchwindow/ ipwin.cxx version 1.7.32.1. Taking back that
change does fix this issue.
->mav: Please try to find a solution that would fix both issues this one and
62857. Thanks a lot!

As time goes by ...
Fine, works to me too, now.
Fixed without a change: maybe software development is more a miracle than I ever
used to believe.
Thanks.

I hav tested it with
OOo-Dev_SRC680_m209_Win32Intel_install.exe
and
OOo-Dev_SRC680_m209_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz

Both, Linux and Windows versions show the bug!

I will attach screenshots of the Windows version.

IMHO it is not worth the effort to make OOo aware of these fake fonts.

Instead use something like
http://docs.openoffice.ru/~doc/ooextras/cyrtools1.2.uno.zip to convert the
document to the coding the broken font uses (or even better, just get a real
font instead) - you might use Thessalonica as well to convert from one special
font-encoding to another one (mainly deals with greek though)

Attached screenshot shows the document after running Cyrillic to latin using the
abovementioned extension.

@richburridge: I do understand. I couldn't find this background info just
reading the issue.
So I think this bug should be renamed like "Give a real fix for the current
workaround".

@obr: please take over. After fixing, tell me how to differenciate the state
"Bug with workaround" from "fixed version". Thanx!

I think the request is valid. Restoring the position shouldn't be too hard to

ok - thanks - so do we have an issue here?

Is it a feature request that Window - New Window shall open on the very same
view area than the 1st window? Or at the current cursor position?

But UTF-8 seems to be selected in the combobox, and not ISO-8859-2, so all those
users outside who don't develop OpenOffice think that it is opened in the
selected encoding. It even fooled me.

This results in:
1. I send them the csv file and tell them to set the encoding to UTF-8
2. They open up the file and UTF-8 is selected in the import box, so they hit OK
3. The characters are wrong.

As the users experience something that is identical to a bug in behavior, I
re-open this bug. What is more, they tell me to send it in tab-separated txt so
they properly open it in another office suite, which is "not broken".

... Maybe, a "platform default" option could be inserted and selected as
default?

Andreas, I assume that this is a residue from earlier versions where closing the
last frame automatically has shut down OOo. Am I right? So tml is right, we
should clean up the code.
