SUN's OpenLanguageTools filters provide a configurable XML filter, but the output (an xlz file) is not compatible with tools besides for OLT itself. It is necessary to open the xlz package and extract the xlf file for translation. Okapi Project (a .NET 2.0 GPL project hosted on SourceForge) has a full fledged convertion filter set that allows for PO/XLIFF/XLIFF (for OmegaT) exports. The exported files are standard XLIFF files and can be used in most tools, except in OLT since OLT does not support XLIFF 1.1... The Okapi Project is waiting for Mono to be fully .NET 2.0 compatible and is already readying the code for an easy transition so as to be available on OSX and Linux as well. Regarding the format of the XLIFF output (either diffs or full source) that should not be an issue since using properly translation memories created from previous versions (TMX, another XML based industry standard) should make updating of non modified segments a trivial operation. XLIFF output of source files _should_ come with TMX creation based on the most recent source files sets. Alignment tools for sub-paragraph segments exist and should be used to further leverage the existing corpus. The way the box works makes it surprisingly hard to jump to a particular page number, especially on longer documents. If you clear the contents of this field, it will repopulate itself after a short delay. If you do not type fast, it is impossible to, for example, back space over "50" and type "35" instead. I witnessed a user end up several times with 3550 as the page number to go to. I can't see why this field shouldn't stay blank if you backspace over it. (This is compounded by the fact that the contents are not selected automatically when this field is selected. [seemed to be the case on both Windows and Linux.] If contents were selected, you could simply type your new page number in, without having to erase the first one.) Here's another problem. Probably meant as a feature, when you put a new number in that field, it automatically jumps your document to that page. But suppose I'm on page 135, and start backspacing. If I pause while typing, I will end up on page 13, or page 1. There is then no obvious way to get back to where I was on 135. If some or all of this is seen as "feature" rather than bug, then it would be nice to have an option to disable it (perhaps labeled "make navigator page number field act normally." :) ). It would also be nice to have an Edit/Go to page... menu option, as some MS-word users seem to get thrown for a loop when trying to use OO. But then the first custom animation should dissolve like the subsequent pictures, at the same pace. But I never had a chance to see the firs picture, it seems to start already "dissolved" then it proceeds to the second picture and then (and only then) it behaves as I would expect, dissolving it. So I changed the file I sent, and the first custom animation now "start on click, very slow" (the other 2 stay "after previous, very slow"). The presentation starts, I see all pictures (as expected) then right after I click the first picture disappears (does not dissolves very slow as defined... just disappears and fast). I have added explanations for the various design decisions. Please note, there are generally 2 big functional areas in the dialog: 1.) buttons/options that are almost never used 2.) buttons/options that are frequently used [3.) buttons/options that are useful from time to time] 1.) I will start with the options that are almost never used: - the HELP-button: most users won't ever use it, and the few ones that will use it, will do so only once or twice and never use it again - the OPTIONS-button, IF the existing options are moved to the main dialog [maybe one will add later other useful options to the Options-dialog, BUT even then, it will be still rarely used] - the PRINTER-PROPERTIES button should be used only rarely [IF the printer settings are set correct] UNFORTUNATELY this is currently not the case, as there are some options that need to be used more often (see later) Therefore, these buttons should be placed in an area that is rarely accessed. This is mainly the upper right corner. Please note, I make extensively use of the AUTOMATIC MOUSE-pointing setting, therefore the mouse will be set automagically somewhere in the lower part of the dialog. 2.) Buttons/Options that are frequently used: - print range / pages to print - 'OK' and 'CANCEL' buttons - somewhat less often: 'Number of copies' These should be put adjacent to each other, therefore I choose the lower third of the dialog. I though about putting the 'OK'/'CANCEL'-buttons immediately below the 'Print range'-options (for MAXIMUM functionality), but many users might have thought this looks not as pretty. Therefore, I choose the current design. It still offers excellent functionality and looks at the same time very pleasing. 3.) In between are other options that are used sometimes, BUT NOT as frequently. 4.) 'PRINT'-specific options Although the Print-'PROPERTIES' dialog should be used as rarely as possible, there are some options that are really useful (and needed on a regular basis). I think of: - selecting the page size [- select 'Color'-vs-'BW' printing: available in Adobe Acrobat] - maybe some other options IF these were available in the main dialog, the 'PRINT PROPERTIES' button would indeed be only rarely used. The current design offers still some space below the 'HELP'/'OPTIONS'-buttons to implement some of these issues (especially a 'PAGE SIZE'-dropdown list!). I therefore hope that the current dialog will be refactored along the current lines.
