Additionally, I have been in innumerable presentations when the presenter is used to ppt and keeps pressing keyboards right arrow by mistake and therefore inadvertently jumps the slide builds. This is yet another excuse that people sometimes use to avoid using Impress at key presentations. It would be sensible to have a check box on Slide Show Settings which remaps the left arrow and right arrow presses to the relevant mouse click events when Slideshow is the active window. The check box could read: Wireless Clicker/Powerpoint Arrow Key Compatibility. I am sure there is a Linux (or OSX) workaround but it would make sense to include it in the standard product for standard users. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 88510] Word count/statistics of d ocuments saved with another build not updated if you don't make changes
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=88510 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu May 1 14:31:55 + 2008 --- troodon-fme This is done because reading the document statistic is not implemented in the current Word filter, which results in a word count = 0 (in contrast to the rtf filter). If the RTF filter reads the statiscs from the document, I assume OOo should give the same word count as Word for unchanged documents, but OOo gives a different word count. So, if a word count is not performed, why OOo gives another nubmer? If the document is modified and the word count is requested before the background word count has finished (e.g., by opening the word count dialog or by saving the document), a foreground word count is started, i.e., you have to wait for the word count to finish. You suggest to update the word count for unchanged documents if the user opens the word count dialog. This could mean that the user would have to wait quite some time before the result is shown, even if the document hasn't been modified and there was a word count stored in the document. This is a user requested action, so I think the user accepts to wait for it. Also, what does quite some time mean for you? In both Word and WordPerfect the first word count usually takes just some seconds even for large documents (+2 words). And they perform it even for unchanged documents. What if the user opens a document and immediately wants to save it again, without making any modifications. In this situation, the word count is also requested. Should the word count update be forced in this situation, prolonging the save process? I don't think so, in my opinion we should use the word count which has been stored in the document, as long as the document is unchanged. No word count requested - nothing to wait for - the document can be saved as-is. Word count requested - wait for word count completion - update the word count stored in the document - only now allow to exit the word count/statistics - user requests document saving - the document can be saved with the new word count via the normal save procedure. Also please note that, aside from documents with a wrong word count, different word processors do the word count in different ways. So if the user requests a word count in OOo, OOo loads the old word count, then the user types 10 words and requests a new word count, the difference between the updated word count and the old one can be much larger than 10 words (see the testcase I posted in issue 80815 - there are differences as large as 1000 words!) and that could look very unconsistent for the user. But I agree with you that File-Properties-Statistics-Update should trigger a word count for unmodified documents. Can we agree upon this? On this I agree with you :-). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I have a table with a field supposed to keep the modification time: modified timestamp NOT NULL default CURRENT_TIMESTAMP on update CURRENT_TIMESTAMP I populate my table with Python or using insert commands from MySQL Query browser and as expected data entries are created and the 'modified' field receives the current timestamp. Now in Base I built a GUI with a table control capable of displaying other fields and the timestamp. Opening the base works and timestamps are correctly displayed. Interestingly, if I update a current entry, the timestamp is also updated accordingly (as expected because of 'on update CURRENT_TIMESTAMP'. However, if I try to create a new entry from the table control, I get this error message: Error writing data to database Input required in field 'modified'. please enter a value. Note that using insert within the MySQL query browser still works. Am I doing something wrong? Or is there something wrong with the way base posts the insert command to the database? Again the issue of styles and how they work is not the way that WordPerfect users want to work. This conversation started due to major problems with Windows and his thought of moving to Linux. I at least convinced him to load OOo onto his computer and try it for all the other features. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I consider myself power user, yet I didn't know about this possibility and searching on google didn't give me any answer. I also don't remember any program where similar situation is possible. Common solution to this problem is placing cursor on the same line, just before table (upper left corner, or big cursor the height of table) or just after (lower right corner, or big cursor). Like some images shifted their position lower in the document and moved other and stuff. The images to have captions which probably makes a difference and the document is over 75 pages. I installed OO.org 2.4 on both machines. Ones running Ubuntu and the other Windows XP. It doesn't look like there is a way to attach anything but you can probably reproduce it by creating a large document with several full screen images with captions. Create it in Linux and try to open it in Windows. The images will probably move around. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
