 blilly:
1. 'enter/edit values quickly and efficiently.[..] I cannot with your
proposals.'
Why not? You fill a field with the same numeric keypad; and you change field
with Tab or the arrow keys, which you need to jump over the dashes, dots or
slashes of a string. And, with fields, tabbing from the last field could loop
back to the first; string editing does not do that. And fields can be checked:
Month cannot exceed 12, Apr.31 does not exist, etc. (Even if you don't make dumb
mistakes, you could hit on key twice and enter 'Oct.177' as a string. The Day
field will reject 177.)
2. The calendar type could be an option --not (I agree with you) determined by
"Language Settings" or "Locale setting".
3. If all you want is display, why even look at the Input line? It's useful only
for displaying formulae (since cells show results), and for editing --That's why
it's called 'Input line'. I agree that cell and input-line formats should match,
but that's a minor problem --until editing is needed. OO has many other more
important bugs to fix!

@mechtilde - actually you can reproduce this with an embedded HSQLdb databse.
Open the attached file.
There is a single table with a TEXT(varchar) field defined for 128,000
characters.

Run the query Query1 and you see that there are three records with character
counts, in said field, of 65001, 1000, 65535 respectively.

Now try to open the actual table first...
Finally try to open the form and move the the 3rd record.

I want to confirm the issue (OOo 3.0.0 rc4 / WinXP)
[test files attached].

It is *not* the AutoRecovery file *.odt-0.odt
(or 0.odt inside the *.tmp folder) which is recovered.
It's the last manually saved *.odt version.

And yes - P2 would be better (to my mind).

OK, when I open the .doc in OOo, my name is correct, so the correct name is in

But some solution or workaround would be really nice anyway ...

I had a document (MS Word .doc) with some text. I added notes to the text, where
the author name was "Jens Müller". When saving the .doc file, the name became
"Jens Müll" on viewing it in MS Word. I wouldn't care if it were just me who saw
that, but I can't send such a file to my boss ...

Who is causing the truncation of the author name? OOo or MS Word?

When doing Insert -> Note while text is selected, the note is inserted at the
beginning of the selection. It would be nice if the note refers to the selected
text as a whole (not just a text position), like it is possible in MS Word.

I tried on Windows and confirmed that it behaves differently. It gives an error
"An unknown error has ocurred" and shows a blank document, but it doesn't crash.

Even so, the message it gives should be something like "Could not open the file,
it is either corrupted or invalid".

Anyway, maybe the crash just happens on Linux.

I have removed my BrOffice 3 instalation and installed the official OpenOffice 3
from http://www.openoffice.org so I could try to see if the problem was
exclusive to the Brazilian version.

It showed the same error and crashed again. The message was:
Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice.org crashed. All the files you were
working on will now be saved. The next time OpenOffice.org is launched, your
files will be recovered automatically.

Also I ran the validator you suggested, and it did find an error. I removed the
offending line from content.xml, repackaged the ODS file and ran the validator
again. This time, the validator indicated the file as valid but OpenOffice still
crashes when opening it. I will attach the new version that passed validation.

pretty sure I got the right passphrase, but it's been a while since I first set

This request has been here since the Pleistoscene, I can't believe after
waiting patiently for version 3 that this problem still persists.

This was originally a request to suppress tips showing location while
scrolling. By changing the definition, JW has totally perverted the request
and lumped it in with far less annoying and seldom wanted features.

Who exactly needs this information to pop up? Its in the status bar.
This just slows down the interface and makes it really annoying to scroll the
document.

It doesn't make sense to hold this item until there is the ability to
separately disable tool tips on a Per Menu basis, because this is not a menu.
Let me put it more bluntly: THIS IS NOT A MENU.

There is little need to turn off tool tips in menus, because if a user knows
what a button does, they click it and go, and the tip never shows. The
proficient user probably NEVER sees a menu tool tip. But no one can avoid
this scroll bar.

Please consider separating this from a mor general (and useless) per-tool bar
tip selection and put it as a separate stand alone bug report. It is the
single most annoying aspect of document management in OOO writer.

[l10n-issues] [Issue 88628] Tok Pisin language not ava ilable

2008-10-24 Thread erack
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=88628

--- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Oct 24 21:35:39 +

To mention: note that this issue only adds the necessary entries to the
language list box, IDs and ISO code mappings.

Adding a language to the language list box makes it available for
character attribution and spell-checking. Availability of spell checker,
hyphenation and thesaurus of course depends on the installed
dictionaries. To be able to fully support it as a locale, including
number formats and calendar data, and having it selectable as default
document language we would need a locale data file.

Locale data files can quite easily be generated with the generator
available at http://www.it46.se/localegen/

For technical details and semantics of elements please see the
generator's documentation and the comments in the locale data DTD file
http://svn.services.openoffice.org/ooo/trunk/i18npool/source/localedata/data/locale.dtd
and as a sample locale data file for example the en_US locale
http://svn.services.openoffice.org/ooo/trunk/i18npool/source/localedata/data/en_US.xml

If you want to create and contribute a locale data file for Tok Pisin
(tpi_PG) you can either

- Create the locale data file using the generator, submit a new issue
for the l10n component, subcomponent localedata, where you tell me
that it is available. I would then contact Alberto, whom you granted
the right to contribute your data, see
  http://www.it46.se/localegen/copyright.php

- Or create the locale data file, submit a new issue for the l10n
component, subcomponent localedata, and attach the generated file to
  that issue.

Please note that to integrate code or data contributed we need
a signed Contributor Agreement form (SCA) filled-out, see
  http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Sun_Contributor_Agreement

This would be the preferred way if you plan to do other contributions
that would need a signed SCA as well.

Thanks
  Eike

I'm experiencing this on Linux, with OOO300m7, Pavel Janik's build 9354. I can
reproduce
this, however I didn't do any further experiments. I'd rather have this working
:).

So, if:
* I have a section with linked-to file,
* and there are more than one footnotes in the linked-to file,
* and put cross-references (referencing the footnotes i the linked-to files) in
the main file,
* and save the main file,
then:
* after the refreshing of the main file or after the re-reading it, the first
of the cross-
references (referring to the 1st footnote) begins to show as referring to the
2nd footnote,
and the 2nd cross-reference begins to show as "Error: reference source not
found.".

Double-clicking on the cross-ref in themain file yields then:
* in the 1st xref's Name field: 2nd footnote's name and text (read-only );
* in the 2nd xref's Name field: some read-only strangeness.

The main file's contents.xml show *seemingly* correct data, however (attaching
the test
case files).

I can confirm that OpenOffice.org 3.0.0 cannot open any password protected
Microsoft Office 2007 files. I'm ussing OOo 3.0.0 Build 9358 (final spanish)

In the attachment you will find two Excel 2007 files, one without password and
the other one password protected, the second one present and error when opening.

I think is imperative to correct this because is a very common practice to
create passwords to protect files.

this issue has the same cause as #i93994#.

You should be able to deploy the extension "shared" also in OOo3.0.0 (however
the attached sample cannot be deployed because of license issues.

I found a strange workaround for this issue!

Porting Obba (see http://www.obba.info) I came across this issue, because Obba
provides a function to
load an external library. In order to function with sheet-relative paths, this
function (e.g. obAddJar)
needs to use getURL. The function has a second argument being a boolean
"isPathRelative". If you write
"obAddJar("lib";TRUE())" the path not expanded. However if you write
"obAddJar("lib";IF(TODAY();TRUE();TRUE()), then the function is evaluated at a
later time and getURL is
valid.

Furthermore, try this on a sheet featuring a macro and set a breakpoint in your
Java code. If you use the
call without TODAY(), then your code will be called before the macro dialog
appears. If you use the call
with the TODAY() workaround, then the code will be called after the macro
dialog appeared.

You can check this behavior by downloading the Obba plugin from
http://www.obba.info an use the
Demo "Normal Distribution.odt".

Regards
Christian

The Form Controls icon opens a toolbar with the tools that you need to create

can use the toolbar to add controls to a form in a text, spreadsheet,

As for the grammar issue, this issue apparently has been around for quite a
while and, IMO, should
have been change for the new version. How long does it take to go in and change
Less to Fewer?

It's been a long time since I've done any coding, but send the section to me
and I'll go thru, find it, and
change it.

The title says it all: please improve Cocoa integration of OOO into MacOSX and
make it seamless in look and feel.
The whole UI of OpenOffice 3.0 doesn't really fit into the UI environment of
MacOSX Leopard and MacOSX Tiger (what about upcoming Snow Leopard). Please try
to let look and feel it like a real, native Mac application, respecting the
standard colors, backgrounds (the legacy background stripes in the current
"Preferences" dialogue box of OOO on MacOSX look horrible and way out of date),
fonts of the dialogues etc.

Apple folks are very sensitive concerning this OS integration stuff. If an
application doesn't fit seamless ans smooth into their system UI, then they
don't use it, and they prefer using an application that fits better into their
system's UI.
Have a look at Firefox/Camino, these guys of Mozilla got it the right way how to
make it better seamless integrate. :-)

Scenario: User A has OOo2.4.1, generates a spreadsheet and sent it to user B.
User B has OOo3.0 with setting "save to ODF 1.2". User B opens the spreadsheet,
chances some values, saves it and sent it back to user A. User A opens the
spreadsheet, but cannot use it, because some functions are broken.
User A could have solved the problem by setting "save to ODF 1.0", if he had
known that it is a ODF 1.0 document.

Because 2.4.x is the last version for Win98 and that OS is still used, such
transforming problems will occur for a while.

Proposal: Show the ODF version of the document in the title bar.

There are two issue which I would declare as stoppers:

1. There is an issue which lead to the behaviour a presentation does not look
the same way in the presentation mode as in the work-mode. See Issue 95341.

2. There is an issue that makes the most simple copy and paste misbehave in
OpenOffice.org Impress. See Issue 94900.

Both issues happen in very basic functions of an office tool and should be fixed
as soon as possible.

Additionally: The first bug leads to embarrassing situations. I always have to
say: The template will look better as soon as OOo 3.0 is fixed.

I have waited some days/weeks, because I wanted to let settle down the troubles
and hectics around the shipping of OOO3.0 Release. BTW.: a great release, thank
you! :-)

But now I try to get your little attention/short focus on a small glitch on OOO3
on MacOSX.
Therefore, please make Issue 93631,
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=93631 a blocker of Issue 93339,
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=93339 .
This issue 93631, reported by the user grahamperrin is still there, I can still
confirm it in the latest Development Builds (OOO300 m11 as well as DEV300 m33).
This issue is a glitch, that should'nt be carried around too long, because it
makes OpenOffice look a kind of unfinished and unprofessional, especially for
users, which have their first touch with OpenOffice. From my point of view, this
little issue is an issue, that is able to cut off a little bit of the first
impression of OpenOffice beginning with the first launch of this application.
I don't know, if this issue is related only to MacOSX, but especially concerning
that particular platform: Apple users are HIGHLY sensitive to things and
glitches (careless, if it is a small glitch or a big one) concerning the visual
appearance and the OS integration of an application on MacOSX.
Please look into this issue and try to verify, confirm and/or fix it, or at
least put it on your agenda.
I know, it's a very small glitch. But a very small glitch that takes off a
little bright of OOO from the start on, (at least) on MacOSX.

The lack of an "Apply" button is a big problem in a graphic app like Draw (I'm
tempted to say that it is a "painful problem"). I've never understood why this
button is not present in OOo.

AW: Found a method to update the toolbar which is somewhat a trick using the
MarkListHasChanged call at the view (which the app is watching), but this is
acceptable since these properties do not change rapidly but only when using the
PosAndSize dialog (F4).
Checked in, done. Need to add to CWS aw058.

I propose issue 92945 as blocker for OOo 3.0.1.
The cursor position in Writer documents is not restored when the last editor
re-opens the document. The view is OK but the cursor is at the top of the
document. This is a regressive annoyance for power users who write a lot and
work on multiple-page documents because the view jumps to the cursor as soon as
the user starts typing.

-fvisibility=hidden is indeed already used in many modules; this had temporarily
escaped me. A proper fix for this issue needs to address three things:

1 Enable -fvisibility=hidden in modules that cause warnings (=errors) with GCC
4.2 (at least configmgr and sccomp), to remove the warnings. These modules
typically use linker map files to determine their exports; the relevant symbols
need to be decorated with SAL_DLLPUBLIC_EXPORT/IMPORT in the source code, so
that they are still exported despite -fvisibility=hidden (and the linker map
file should still be used, so that the symbols get the correct versioning; at
least an experiment I just conducted showed that SAL_DLLPUBLIC_EXPORT +
-fvisibility=hidden + linker map file preserved the symbol versioning specified
in the linker map file).

2 Broken C++ exception classes like rtl::MalformedUriException need to be
fixed, so that they work reliably in all modules using -fvisibility=hidden (old
and new). This is moved out to issue 95428.

3 It has to be evaluated that any external C++ exception classes (from std::
and maybe elsewhere) are similarly safe. (I *think* I evaluated that before, but
cannot right now find any notes.)

@cmc: There are indeed some leftovers in the dir that peter has been posting,
but those are not interfering, the problem even shows when those are deleted.

The way we do it in Gentoo is to have all those paths going in the same
directory (for historic reasons, which are not that easy to solve in the short
term):

--with-external-dict-dir=/usr/share/myspell
--with-external-hyph-dir=/usr/share/myspell
--with-external-thes-dir=/usr/share/myspell

As it seems the problem is that the hyphen files are interpreted as dictionary
files, if you move the hyphen files away, the crashes / freezes go away as well.

On GCC, many dynamic libraries are built with -fvisibility=hidden (e.g.,
trunk/comphelper/util/[EMAIL PROTECTED]).  At least rtl::MalformedUriException
(trunk/sal/inc/rtl/[EMAIL PROTECTED]) lacks proper (GCC-only)
SAL_DLLPUBLIC_EXPORT (and SAL_DLLPUBLIC_PRIVATE for irrelevant parts), so that
exception handling for this exception works reliably in dynamic libraries built
with -fvisibility=hidden (see CPPU_GCC_DLLPUBLIC_EXPORT and CPPU_GCC_DLLPRIVATE
defined in trunk/cppu/inc/cppu/[EMAIL PROTECTED] and used in .hdl files
generated by cppumaker).

It should be checked whether there are more classes used as exceptions in the
OOo sources that have the same problem.

(Also see issue 95065.)

Open Draw. From "Flowcharts" tool bar, select decision (diamond) or terminator
(oval) (may be others). Place on page. Right click object, select Text. Check
box for Word wrap text in shape and Resize shape to fit text. Select smaller
text size - smaller size will show bug better(I'm using 8 point Ariel). Insert
enough text to be able to size for more than one line - 3 lines or more will
show bug better. Resize object to be as small as possible while retaining
multiple lines. Save document. Close document. Open document. Object improperly
sized smaller than text box. Not sure if this is a save file or open file issue.

- New Writer doc
 - Insert a note (i.e. ++N)
 - In that note, write text like "issue # 12345" (but use the NUMPAD of the
keyboard for the numbers!)
-> Numberes do not show.

Workaround:
Use the number keys above the letters on the keyboard
Note:
Seems to affect on WinXP only. Vista, Windows2000, Linux and Mac it is OK.

Funny: After having them entered unsuccessfully, if you type any other character
from the "normal" keyboard area, then the previously entered numbers are entered
(from the keyboard buffer probably :-)

Aha, well the intention is that if OOo has been configured --with-system
dictionaries to get it to use such a directory then that the spelling
dictionaries are in one directory, hyphenation in another one and thesauri in
another one, where the defaults are /usr/share/hunspell, /usr/share/hyphen and
/usr/share/mythes and override-able with e.g.
--with-external-dict-dir=/usr/share/myspell and so on. Here I am assuming that
OOo has been configured with --with-external-dict-dir=/usr/share/myspell but
there are some non spelling dicts in there that are getting accepted as spelling
dicts.

That said it should be straightforward enough to avoid any problems if OOo ends
up misconfigured like that.

So, the best thing to do is to attach here a .tar.gz of that entire directory as
you have some things in there that looks rather odd to my eyes, i.e.
dictionary.lst and so on which I would rather expect to see in an older 2.X.Y
/path/to/OOo/share/share/dict/ooo rather than someplace like /usr/share/myspell

AW: Changed two places up to now:

(1) BezierObjectBar::GetAttrState(..) in SD needs to disable the whole bezier
edit toolbar when move or size protect is set for the selection at the view

(2) SdrDragView::BegDragObj(..) in SVX needs to be forced to do nothing if a
poly point is selected and move or size protect is set.

Still the toolbar is not refreshed when changing the state of move or size
protect at the SdrObject. I already corrected SdrObject::SetMoveProtect(..) and
SdrObject::SetResizeProtect(..) to do the common broadcasting stuff.
Investigating how the refresh of the toolbar is triggered in SD...

I tried to use a noncontiguous range of changing cells with Solver and was
notified that the input was incorrect. Inputting a contiguous range worked
flawlessly. The inability to select a noncontiguous range for the changing
cells prohibits the use of Solver for a wide number of LP tasks. I have a
simple example of such a use case put together in a spreadsheet if a reference
problem is needed.

@brendel: Why do you use copy$paste? To insert a slide from another presentation
which is not opened, you can use Insert > File. The slide will be inserted after
the actual slide, including masterpage. To insert a slide from another
presentation which is opened drag the slide from the slide pane or slide sorter
of the source to the slide pane or slide sorter of the destination. To move a
slide inside a presentation use Window > New Window to generate a new view of
the presentation and than again drag&drop. At least on WinXp this works.
I know it is only a workaround for the copy&paste error, but perhaps it will
ease your working.

I have a ODS file created using JasperReports 3.1.0 exporter.

When I try to open the file, OpenOffice Calc crashes and show me the bug report
window. This happens everytime I try to open this file.

I tried to export a diferent report with JasperReports but the results are the
same.

I don't know if the file is malformed, but even if it is, OpenOffice should give
a nice message informing the file is malformed, not crash.

I'm using BrOffice 3.0 (Brazilian version of OpenOffice) on Ubuntu Linux 8.04

In the main setsolar ini file (setsolar/inc/sdev300.ini) are a lot of command
line switches that cannot be used with recent milestones or are simply no longer
used.

These switches are going to be removed with CWS consolar01. A discussion of
these siwtches can be found at
https://so-wiki.germany.sun.com/wiki/index.php/Project_consolar .

Some switches have duplicates that should be merged as well.

"if you (re)move /usr/share/myspell directory somewhere freeze disappears, so
this
freeze is related to spell checking."

Please give a sample ls output of the contents of the /usr/share/myspell
dictionary.
