The RSQ function in Calc delivers the determination coefficient, which is the
square of the correlation coefficient. However, the example in online help
wrongly reads "correlation coefficient".

See the attached screenshot.

The bug is the wrong wording in the GUI and in the online help, where
"correlation coefficent" is used for the determination coefficient.

When inserting a trend line into a chart you can choose to display R².

R² is the determination coefficent
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coefficient_of_determination) that could also be
calculated by using the RSQ function in Calc.

The determination coefficent R² is the square of the correlation coefficent R
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correlation_coefficient). The latter could also be
calculated by using the PEARSON function in Calc.

See the attached screenshots for wrong wording in the GUI and in the online
help.

@mandydog:
I doubt that you have this problem with 1.1.0.
I did a Quick test with "Ooo 3.0.0 (DE) Multilingual version German UI WIN XP:
[OOO300m9 (Build9358)]" and had no problems to connect "db.odb" to "pr.ods" and
then to insert new database fields to your document "lab.odt" (what should be a
good workaround for your problem).
No idea how to create a new data base matching with the fields in your existing
text document (I believe db name should be "d7.odb" and table name should be
"p7", but I do not know).

The Issue tracker is not a user help facility. Please read the FAQ and other
information linked in the left frame of this screen. You can get help from the

Pls. feel free to reopen this issue if discussions in forum or mailing list show
that there is a reals bug - and if you can figure out what OOo version you use

I have a problem with printing labels. Using the method successfully used last
year, I created a spreadsheet [p.ods] with the addresses., 21 addresses per
sheet.
I clicked New, Database and created a new database file [db.odb]. I clicked New
Labels on the database file, It showed the correct database name, but no table
names [sheets] and no database field names [column names] for selection as
label text. However, in the label text field it showed field names and table
names associated with an old database [from a year ago, in a different
directory, and with different content]. I anyway created a label file by
pressing new document. This file shows the field names from the obsolete
database. I clicked synchronise, which worked. On showing the source by pressing
F4, I see that my new db has no associated fields but the old one has the
expected fields. However the content appears to be that of the old spreadsheet
and the labels generated are the labels from the old spreadsheet , which I
cannot find so I cannot simply rename the new spreadsheet file over the old
one.[would this work?] A similar problem was reported about fields some time ago
but was closed because the field content was somehow invalid.
My new spreadsheet is similar in content to the old one, text only with column
names in row 1. I tried disconnecting the old db from open office using options,
but this did not help, as still no field names appear in the new db.
1.I cannot find the spreadsheet being used by the old database. how do I find
the path name of the file associated with the db?
2.How can I get the file , sheets and column names onto the new db file?
I can send the files if this would help.[except the old spreadsheet , unless you
can tell me how to find it]

Yes, as far as I understand 71997 it's similar. Let me add a very common
example:
Trying to link tables of sport results (Nine to Twelve), you may get the
following evaluation of strings to formatted numbers:
"9-12" => this year's 9th of December or US Dec 12th respectively
"9:12" => 0.38333 (fraction of a day)
With any other import method there is some trick to enforce literal strings,
except for "Link to external data" which always overwrites formatting and
values, evaluating everything in numeric context.
Link to external data works well with file:// links as long as the referenced
file has named tables embedded, such as named tables in html, named ranges or
database ranges in spreadsheets (no text-tables, unfortunately).

[sc-issues] [Issue 96872] Bug in calculation, formul a "=(n+1)-n" (where n >= 2^48) gives 0 as resu lt

The problem has been told earlier in issue 69798, which was closed as duplicate
of issue 69749. But I think the problem in issue 69749 is different. There is
the problem, that the decimal number has no exact binary representation. But
here the binary representation is exact, and it does not exceed the range of 52
bits. So it is neither a "overflow" problem nor a problem of converting decimal
numbers.

Internally, when using double type, you can calculate this example without
error, as you can see when executing the macros. But if the marco uses the cell
content it fails too. Therefore I think, that the error must be somewhere on the
way from the decimal cell content to its binary representation.

The attached document is indeed "ill". I can see that there is something wrong.
It is _not_ the mistake to use a list style. I cannot imagine why it is broken.
Do you remember the OOo version, which you used when starting the document or
the version in which the document template was build?

You have set your edit to record changes. This makes formatting more complex.
You should use this feature only if really necessary.

You can repair the document, if you reassign the paragraph styles "heading 1"...
Go to Edit > Find and search for the style "Heading 1" (expand dialog to mark
this feature). Use "Find all". Now all those paragraphs are marked. Use the
Style&Formatting window and assign the style "default" with a double click. The
former headings are still marked. Now immediately assign the original style
"Heading 1" with double click. Do so for the other heading styles too.

verified addtionally on sb101.

Remark: When you deploy the package on unix platforms via OOo extension manager,
in the same OOo-session you will get a corrupt (namelesse) node in "Run macros"
in the macro treee. Fixing this is time consuming and risky, so I leave this
for now as it is. Restarting the office fixes the problem.

The problem is that drag-filling by two equal dates produces the same results
as for Jan-Jan - enter 1.1.1 in A1 and A2, select A1:A2 and drag-fill down -
you will get date increment (as opposed to integers.

@sb: what would be the real word use case, where this is a problem ? Can there
be a situation, where pthread_equal(pThread->owner, pthread_self()) returns true
but it is in fact not ?

Nevertheless, I agree it is very likely that the current OOo system requirements
include recursive mutexes on all platforms now, so these should be used.

Bye,

Joerg

If i try to assign a macro stored in a writer file (.odt) its impossible to
select the file as Modul source. I tested it with OpenOffice 2.41 portable
german and there it works. If i assign the macro in this version then the macro
is executed correct in DEV300m36 build.

In macro selector dialog the only shown libaries are "My Macros" and
"OpenOffice.org Macros".

Tested on Windows XP (SP3) with german localized Builds.

To give another example:
- type in Writer:
1. We do NOT want this to be a bullet

This becomes a bullet:
  1. We do NOT ...

Now select UNDO. The bullet is undone:
1. We do NOT ...
<- CURSOR IS HERE. HIT AGAIN ENTER ON THE BLANK LINE.

The first line gets again a bullet.
  1. We do NOT ...

The second time the line is bulleted should NOT happen, because OOo knows now
that this is NOT a bullet.

Due to an obviously erroneous double backslash in the regexp '@PLT|\\$stub' at
tags/DEV300_m37/config_office/[EMAIL PROTECTED] l. 2489, introduced through
issue 87464, all
versions of GCC on Mac OS X are considered by configure to have broken
-fvisibility=hidden, and the
feature is disabled. (Checking the visibility.s as used by configure.in
generated by the default Apple GCC
4.0.1, the additional Apple GCC 4.2.1, and a MacPorts-based GCC 4.3.2, only GCC
4.2.1 erroneously calls
__ZN10TestStruct4InitEv while the other two correctly call
L__ZN10TestStruct4InitEv$stub, which is in line
with the"Known to fail: 4.0.3 4.1.0 4.2.0" at
).

One general comment. This fix addresses only the general problem that Python
doesn't work on Mac OS. It don't fix a potential problem with scripts in the
user installation etc. That is a different issue and please submit a new one for
that.

jsc -> bill janssen: my fix will work with both systems. But you are right that
a build done on Leopard won't work on Tiger.

Aqua version 3.0.1 DEV m37 shows the context menu in the wrong place when
right-clicking on row headers or column headers. Right-clicking on row headers
(far left of window) pops up menu on opposite edge of window (see attached
screenshot). Right-clicking on column headers also pops up menu in wrong place.
This is harder to describe - it's almost a "mirror image" (i.e. right-click half
an inch LEFT of center and the menu pops up half an inch RIGHT of center).
Right-clicking in a cell within the document works fine.

Okay, this *STILL* not fixed in 3.0. Will anyone care about this in 3.1?
As far as I understood the reason not to deal with this in 2.4 was the fact that
the things under the GUI hood would need a lot of changes to allow for this
functionality.
So if these changes were not incorporated in 3.0 when will they?

I have already bought Softmaker Presentation due to this issue. If there will be
no clear time frame when this will be fixed I will start to convert all my
presentations to it and from my personal experiences OpenDocument-Format is only
partially interchangeable in presentations due to different features. So this
might make me leave OOo Impress forever.
Anything I can do (other than code) to support getting rid of this most anoying
issue?

With the growing options in pdf export one should manage setting profiles. This
makes it easier for people who export on a regular basis and decrease input
errors for password protected pdf files.

In our company for example every created pdf file needs a set of security
options and therefor a company-wide permission password. Users of adobe acrobat
can save a set of settings as a profile and them apply it easily on a pdf file.
In my opinion this should be added to openoffice too. This for example decreases
password input errors and helps to simplify mass pdf export.

Yes, the action mentioned on the forum corrected the problem.
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12340&p=57999#p57999

It is possible that the error was triggered when I updated some/all extensions,
though I do not remember exactly when I made a full update (it could be after
installing m35). Though, correcting this bug in the main branch of OOo seems
highly desirable.

[lingucomponent-issues] [Issue 72996] Hyphenation doesn't respec t the "minimum characters before..." value if the word has an apostrophe

General rules for hyphenation of French:
- less hyphenation is better
- no hyphenation at apostrophes:
  l'/amour
- hyphenation must cut at least 3 letters:
  es/poir
  l'es-poir
  l'a/mour
  ar/gent
  d'ar-gent
- hyphenation not allowed on proper names,
- no more than 3 consecutive hyphenations
- no hyphenation on the last word of a paragraph.

Legend:
/ fordidden hyphenation
- allowed hyphenation

--

Note: a strange thing is that the people(s) who wrote the French hyphenation
dictionary didn't respect the 3 letters limit, even if they recognized it. The
first example they give is: co-lon.
I checked in books I have and I never saw words stripped with only two letters.
Maybe because two-letters strip is not forbidden, only not advised(?)
There is nowhere exhaustive list of rules about hyphenation in French.
Informations are scattered, and only few books give elements of answer, and
sometimes they don't agree with each other.

I will try to go to the library this week to have a look in the reference
grammar book: "Du bon usage du Français" de Grevisse.

--

I found no rules about 'puisque', 'quoique', etc. so it does not seem forbidden
to hyphenate them, but, imho, it looks a little bit strange.

I do not know if this is a related problem:

My English spellchecking does NOT work at all since the latest versions of OOo.
I am currently using OOo-dev 3.1 (m37). However, I think that the English
spellchecking was broken since at least m35, and probably since m29 as far as I
can remember.

I have installed the English version of OOo. Running Win2k SP4 English version.

I have uninstalled a long way back the stable release of OOo and I am installing
since then only the dev builds, which caused some problems back then. The
English spellchecking problem could be related to this fact as well.

However, installing even the dev-build should install all the necessary files. I
do not think that I have removed the Australian dictionary [though I am unsure
IF my previous uninstall could have triggered that behaviour].

If this issue is unrelated, I will open a new bug report. However, please
understand that I switched back to MSO at home after more than 2 years of using
exclusively OOo. Not only that the spellchecking is broken, but this is
compounded by the irritable red-lining which refuses to disappear.

I can confirm: selecting some text and selecting Thesaurus will crash OOo (as
stated in a previous post). So probably my issue is indeed related to this
issue.

Seems a duplicate of 71997 to me. BTW, link to external data seems to work on
http (not "file://") only in recent versions? (and the workaround via the
Navigator has a wrong description in the manual ..).

Created an attachment (id=58598)
this file illustrates that outline numbering is 1.1.1.1 instead 2.x.x.x+

I started to write a relatively big document. During the first cca. 80-100 pages
I was using only outline levels 1, 2 and 3. But then I needed to use level 4 as
well. Unfortunately I could not solve to number my chapter properly. It had the
number 1.1.1.1 instead of 2.x.x.x.

In order to use the 4th level, in Tool => Outline Numbering I attached to level
4 the "Heading 4" style and set everything in level 4 as Heading 3 had on level
3 (except number of sublevels of course which was set to 4 instead of 3).

My 4th level chapter was after the 2.3.4 so I expected the 2.3.4.1 number to be
presented. Instead of this, 1.1.1.1 has appeared. I could not change this
behavior trying for several hours.

After that I created a new document and made a 4-level heading hierarchy as a
test. The numbering was working fine. So OOo is capable to handle so deep
chapter hierarchy. This means that only my document became ill during the time.

Therefore I started to reducing my 100-page document into a shorter version in
order to present the wrong behavior. It became worse and worse. The final
simplified version which I will attach soon, illustrates what I am talking
about. The chapter containing the text "This number is wrong" should be numbered
1.2.1.1 instead of 1.1.1.1.

This document has several further problems as well. If I delete the letter D
from the chapter 1.2.1 by pressing the backspace button then the following
unexpected symptoms occur:
- "Main Title" looses his number "1" and his style "Heading 1" and goes back to
the basic style "Text body".
- Chapter containing "C" looses his style "Heading 3" visible on the toolbar and
becomes "Text body". It's presentation is changed too but the number "1.1.2"
remains.
- Chapter containing letter "D" earlier (deleted just now) looses it's style
"Heading 3" on the toolbar. The presentation and the number "1.2.1" remains
unchanged.
- The last chapter containing "Y" changes his style to "Text body with indent"
and letter Y will be indented by 0.5 cm.
- Undo does not un-do the whole things above but removes the number "1.2.1"
too.

So I think OOo made my document wrong during the time of editing. My question:
- Did I do something wrong?
- What should I avoid in order to prevent my document from such corruptions?
- How should I tell OOo to number by 4th level paragraph correctly instead of
"1.1.1.1"?
- Is my document repairable in some way (hexa-editing or so)? How?

I am using OOom9 (Build: 9358)
Build 2008-11-04
This is the Hungarian localization of OOo but such problems occured with earlier
2.* version of OOo too.

No, from what I understand of the issues you're pointing to me, they are about
the icon themes. This is not what this bug is about, I'm talking about the GTK
theme here. Nothing to do with industrial or tango (tango is not a gtk theme).
I'm talking about the actual user interface widgets (the pushbutton).

This is not an enhancement. It's a native platform integration bug.

I think it was my fault that the issue was closed - I should have reopened it
before someone looking for unclosed, but resolved issues closed it. Sorry.

The issues indeed is "Worksforme" because there is an API to access the content
(using XTextCursor). Nevertheless, we are currently looking for an improvement
by making it accessible through the XViewCursor also. So let's wait if that is
doable with bearable effort.
