This issue has been knocked around the user forum so long that everyone is sick
of it.  We're now down to such inane suggestions as "xls is outdated and
everyone should be using open formats by now" or "nobody who's anybody uses xls
any more." Blah blah!

One of the experienced users suggested posting the issue here, but I see that
you're sick of the issue, too :-)  So much so that you "RESOLVED" it as soon as
you saw it.

What do you recommend now that the issue has been booted out of every OO help
resource?  Can it be reopened, or is it finished?  The western world still needs
a way to use OO tools with major (MS VB or C#?) workplace apps.

Open the "Bibliography" database and add a query
SELECT "Identifier" FROM "biblio" WHERE "Identifier" = 'OOO00'
Create a most simple report based on that query (3 clicks in the report wizard).
Close the report, change the query, for instance:
SELECT "Identifier" FROM "biblio" WHERE "Identifier" <> 'OOO00'
Reload the report. It shows the same single record although the query has 
changed.

Work-around:
Open the report in edit mode.
Get the form navigator. It shows 6 hidden controls (named values as 
configuration).
One of them is "Command". Get the property window for "Command". It's value is
the SQL string of our query at creation time.
Delete that SELECT query, save the report, load it, change query, reload
report,... works as expected.

Yes and no. The Calc functionality is not enough - IMHO.
You can split the view, but you can have only one selection and the two parts
can only be scrolled together.

In a Writer document I wouldn't accept that - IMHO both parts must be scrollable
independently. And I want to select something in one view without losing the
cursor in the other.

And again: if done like proposed, this wouldn't be something for Writer only.

of openoffice.org, i.e. the software which can downloaded from openoffice.org.
Indeed, on my machine, =sum(2,2) returns #NAME?, but =sum(2;2) returns 4. OO
does not use comma as a delimiter since it conflicts with the decimal separator
in locales some locales, ie places where the decimal expansion of pi is written
3,14159265... This is confusing to people used to Excel, where comma is used as
a separator, so there's a patch, (which I think Kohei wrote), to make the
separator dependent on locale. You are presumably running a version of OO with
this patch applied. Your issue is valid, but only for the place where you got
your copy of OO, eg your distributor, if OO came with your Linux. You should
file this issue with them ("downstream") not here ("upstream"). HTH!

I agree as well that both issues have to be separate. Issue 19292 applies to

applications, and if I read it right would give OOo.org the ability to view

I created a document 3 inches wide by 6.25 inches high (to match DayTimer 
booklets). When I print it as a booklet, it comes out 3.875 x 8.25, and seems 
to be scaled to fix the output page (8.5 x 11, landscape). Both dimensions are 
enlarged by 30-32%. I don't have any scaling in the printer set. Printer is a 
Canon PIXMA iP4000.

I think that I experienced this previously, using the Linux version of OO. 
However, it seemed to be related to viewing the document on screen at an 
enlarged zoom. I thought that it corrected itself when zoomed to 100%. However, 
this does not work with the Windows version I'm currently using, and I don't 
have access to a Linux computer currently to check my memory.

Thanks for looking into this. If necessary, I'd be happy to generate a test 
file that would demonstrate this issue.

Seems to work fine for me under OS X 10.5.2 with 3.0 build 3958; tested both
saving a file to an existing folder to scandi chars, creating a new folder with
them and opening files from new + existing folders.

There is some problem with Exception handling using GCC4 on OpenBSD for building
OpenOffice.Org.
The problem does not come up with GCC 3 but we can't use GCC 3 because ooxml
can't be built with GCC 3 just yet. There is another problem report for that.

Text in cross reference fields are not used during a sort. I first saw the
problem in a text table.

I created a text table. One column contains a reference to a section. Select the
data and sort on the column with the references. (Use Table -> Sort)

Next, I added the references in the text one per line. Select the references.
Use Tools -> Sort

Sort does not sort based on the reference data. I suppose that this is the same
reason that you can not search for the text contained in a field.

I am at home so I have done this all from scrath
Install XP Pro
Install FF
Install Flash  ( Youtube works fine )
Install OO RC2 OOO300-m15
Checked Insert/Object/Plugin/Browse - OK
Got my collegue to email me the powerpoints from work
OO imports them OK except for the flash animations
Install MS Office 2003 just to check that the presentation does contain 
the flash and it's not a link to somewhere else  - Powerpoint shows 
embedded flash OK ( Incidentally one thing I did try was
using the powerpoint viewer and they don't work in that ) 

These are 'bought' powerpoints from UK educational company ( are you in UK ? )
I spoke to them a while ago when I first started moaning about this :-)
They say they are not doing anything clever, they are just embedded flash

Can I just email one of these presentations to you so you can have a look ?
They are about 2-3M - then you can see if a) I am bonkers or b) the powerpoints
are not as simple as the company say or c) 3.0.1 is still not well

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Activate GTK GlobalMenu as shown on the related links
2. After its installation, open OpenOffice
3. You normally opened a normal instance of OpenOffice.

Actual Results:  
The OpenOffice toolbar is in the window when GTK GlobalMenu is
activated.

Expected Results:  
I would like to see the OpenOffice toolbar outside the main window, like what
you would see on a Mac.

I understand that it might not be at the top of the priorities, but as we're
considering being included in Gnome, we need to be compatible with all the major

hi rene,

in the redland makefiles, i'm explicity passing --with-www=xml to configure, to
force it to use libxml2 instead of curl for this (because it needs libxml2 
anyway).
and i can't remember ever seeing it pick up a dependency on libcurl.
could you investigate what causes it to require libcurl?
maybe it couldn't find libxml2?
oh, and btw, only the 3 libraries are important, none of the binaries are used
in ooo. i couldn't quickly figure out how to disable building them, and i know
they generate some warnings when linking on some platforms.

[also, there is cws odfmetadata2, which has updated redland libs...]

I don't want to see this issue closed either. It may certainly be possible to
combine two issues, but I would worry that this one would get glossed over by
the developers, as it has for so long.

I cannot state this strongly enough: the split document view is the only feature
that's keeping OO from being widely adopted by the education market. I just
spent $10,000.00 renewing my Microsoft licensing for my district- this is money
I could have spent in better ways if I could have deployed Open Office; some of
that money (or all of it for all I care) could have been spent on OO
development- an offer I made quite some time ago with no response. The offer is
still there for an ambitious developer- you implement the feature, I am willing
to pay for it. I can't see why this seems so difficult. F/OSS is a great thing,
except when development stalls: then it sucks. OO is a great product, and kudos
to the developers who are working to make it better. Please, though- we've been
waiting for this split-document view option for ages now in education. Make it
happen!

sba, since I'm not a developer, I have some difficulty following your roadmap.
But, if I got it well, the first goal is to have something as a window manager
inside OOo, allowing multiple files and/or instances of the same file to be
arranged in a single window. This seems to be what Issue 19292 is about and what
this issue is becoming.
So, in the end, both issues will become the same stuff. If I'm correct, I keep
the suggestion of closing either issue, merging talks into the other, so that
the discussion is unique.
Another possibility is to close both issues and open a fresh one, with the clear
idea in mind. Besides unifying the discussion, we also get rid of the garbage
collected over the years, making it easier and more objective.
My only intent with this is to end the split discussion (pun intended).
Then, we move on to the ideas themselves.

There is nothing special with the pie charts here.
Enter a single column of data and create a chart from it.
In the data range tab switch to 'data series in rows'
Close and reopen the dialog
It is not possible to switch back to columns, as the dialog wrongly indicates
columns already.

Reason is that in that special case the range is split into single cells. When
looking at these single cells the Calc does not detect properly that the range
in fact is split into rows. Instead it wrongly returns the default 'columns'.

Hi,

I just lost an afternoon's work after Vista had completely crashed (just the HDD
rattling, nothing moving any more for 10 minutes, then I did a hard reset). 

Writer told me it had restored the files from the autosave information when I
restarted it, but the document status is today noon again. VERY BAD. The machine
was running all the afternoon with Writer open.

Auto Save ("Speichern von AutoWiederherstellungsinfo") is set to 15 Minutes.

What's going on here?? Thanks for fixing this asap.

x...@q.com) the email merge fails that address.  
Quote from ACKNAK on user forum: "When I enable debugging output from the 
python mailer script, it's clear that OOo is not even contacting the outgoing 
mail server with the q.com addresses; OOo just fails them before even trying to 
send them."

OO.o should submit an entry to the Windows File Association list
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929149). If a user clicks a document in a
format that their machine doesn't support, Windows sends them to
shell.windows.com which lists possible applications that can open that format of
document. OO.o should be on that list for all formats it supports -- .doc format
files, for example, are currently listed as being supported by Word and Corel

Yes, it's the same problem, thanks for the hint.

The problem in general is that tables that are not transported in Writer's
"native" format but in RTF or HTML format will show the undesirable behavior.
HTML and RTF are the formats that are used to copy a table or a part of it from
any other application (Calc, Browser, Word etc.).

Steps:

(1) Connect to Mysql and create a new target database running the corresponding
SQL script.

(2) Check the target db created in Step (1), e.g., execute "show tables"
command. Result shows all the tables have been successfully created.

(2) Create the ODBC connection using "ODBC Data Source Administrator" (the rpms
for the libraries required are those from MySQL website)

(3) Launch OpenOffice Base and create a database from an existing source. Select
ODBC and enter the user and pswd; test connection, and finish.

(4) Interface shows the database objects with "Forms" selected. Clicking on
Tables does not refresh the display, i.e., no tables are shown.

(5) Go back to MySQL and from the command line connect to the target db. 

(6) Execute "show tables" command. Now no tables are shown. This appears to be
the result of having connected with Open Office 3 Base to the target db via Unix
ODBC.

something is seriously broken. Yes, there might be assertions, but...
Did you say yourself that it still works?

Besides that, it just affects debug builds...

And no, I won't fix it, target of my work on writer2latexexternal was getting it
to build according to OOos policy. It's an external project, so
I don't even use the internal writer2latex but just a vanilla
writer2latex oxt built directly out of the writer2latex sources :)

I have been using that addin, that provides additional astronomic functions for
CALC, for years. But with 3.0, that addin dos no longer work correctly, all
fields containing astroadd functions show message "#Name?".

There is a workaround to get the correct calculations: you only have to use
search / erplace for all equals signs, and the calculations will be done. but
after you saved and reloaded the document again, you will get the ugly messages
again.

Steps to reproduce: 
0. unzip "astroadd-1.5.3.zip" 
1. copy/paste "astroadd.dll" to your folder similar to
  
2. open demo document "astrodemo2.sdc" FROM THE ZIP
   expected: values are shown in the cells, charts with contents
   actual: Error messages, empty charts
3. Menu 'Edit -> Find & Replace', Search for "=", Replace with "=" in
   formulas for all sheets
   Calculations will be done.

No idea whether that is specific to "astroadd.dll" or a general addin problem.
