[sw-issues] [Issue 100629] Inaccurate word count
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=100629 --- Additional comments from scott...@openoffice.org Mon Apr 13 07:28:01 + 2009 --- I too see inaccurate word counts in OO Write. I'm using American English v3.01 for Windows. The left-leaning double quote and left-leaning single quote counts as a single word, even when it's snugged up against a word (no space). E.g. “Mia = 2 words and ‘fox = 2 words. Both of these examples should = 1 word. Some other punctuation marks show up as alpha-numeric characters for the purpose of word counts. E.g. ### = 1 word and # # # = 3 words. I didn't check all possible characters. Both these examples should = 0 words. Hyphenated words count as one word, even when using a hard hyphen. E.g. blue-green = 1 word. This example should = 2 words. Note, I haven't checked, but soft hyphens should join words to make a count of one. Hard hyphens should not. In my opinion only strings alpha-numeric characters should contribute to word counts, never any punctuation marks. For purposes of finding the boundaries of these strings hard hyphens should be treated as a space, soft hyphens should not. Neither should apostrophes, or left or right-leaning single quotes (which might be treated as apostrophes). E.g. can't, can’t, and even can‘t should = 1 word. The hard hyphen rule will mess up phone numbers, but phone numbers should be less common in blocks of text than hyphenated words. One possible fix is to treat hard hyphens within strings of numbers differently than hard hyphens within strings of alphas. E.g. blue-green = 2 words, 555-1212 = 1 word. This will still mess up people who use hard hyphens where they should be using soft hyphens, but then people should learn to use the tools properly. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. But, nextElement() function always returns full content of the cell. If similar code is used for traversing of the paragraph, it works fine. For example: Cell value: text1 boldtext2/bold. bold tag means that text2 has bold decorator. I use the following code to extract different text portions: XTextTable table = (XTextTable) UnoRuntime.queryInterface( XTextTable.class, xTextElement); String cellNames[] = table.getCellNames(); for (String cellName : cellNames) { TraceLog.out.info(cell name : + cellName); XCell cell = table.getCellByName(cellName); XText text = (XText) UnoRuntime.queryInterface( XText.class, cell); XEnumerationAccess textEnum = (XEnumerationAccess) UnoRuntime.queryInterface( XEnumerationAccess.class, text); XEnumeration xTableParEnum = textEnum.createEnumeration(); while (xTableParEnum.hasMoreElements()) { XTextRange xTextPortion = (XTextRange) UnoRuntime.queryInterface( XTextRange.class, xTableParEnum.nextElement()); System.out.println(table text portion : + xTextPortion.getString()); } } xTextProtion.getString() will always returns full content of cell, but should return firstly text1 and secondly boldtext2/bold. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 100850] inserting dl envelope int o document incorrect size
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=100850 --- Additional comments from office...@openoffice.org Mon Apr 13 10:18:30 + 2009 --- I have found a work around for this problem. Go to create and insert a DL envelope. The envelope is inserted into the document albeit not the correct size. Right click on the envelope to bring up a dialogue. From here select 'page'. When this dialogue opens it shows the Format to be User. Click the arrow on the drop down box and select DL. Then in the same dialogue I notice that the Top margin is set at 4.13. I set this to 0 and click OK. The envelope is then looking as it should on the page. All that needs to be done then is to move the address to where it should be. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Fiddling around in lingucomponent might be the place to start. (though I think that at the moment some languages that *don't* have any territories already work without a territory mentioned) e.g. ia.dic or eo.dic should be detected as Interlingua and Esperanto so maybe it already works, or nearly works) Making any modifications to e.g. OOo might have to be equally made in e.g. firefox etc, to get a similar effect. The syntax of the referenced cell is always Calc A1 even when the formula syntax is not Calc A1. The problem is, when the formula syntax is not Calc A1, the DDE function returns #N/A because the interpretation of the referenced address fails. I think this might be partially done, maybe not - a manual sort feature may also be good. But unfortunately, on this release of OO I see that the user experience has gone backwards. I want to be able to Paste Special Unformatted Text (or any other format for that matter) in one keystroke (or 1 after an initial setup). We've moved the other way, and this OO release needs 3 (or more keystrokes) actions - Ctrl-V, Paste Special menu, Text Import menu. Maybe you need all this, but the user needs a single keystroke option too. 1/ Have a paste special (saved options) button, that just does it 2/ Have an edit special paste settings option on the edit menu 3/ On the Paste Special and the Text Import screens, have buttons to save this as the paste special setting. [sw-issues] [Issue 93999] Using decrease indent bu tton in list must adapt tab position
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=93999 --- Additional comments from jrahemip...@openoffice.org Mon Apr 13 18:12:27 + 2009 --- From my experience users expect to change the numbering level with the increase/decrease buttons (because MSO does so) and not to change the paragraph indent. Both buttons don't have an useful effect in OOo in such cases, because the standard tab positions don't fit to the level positions of the numbering. Furthermore, clicking decrease and after that increase the indent will be no more at the old position. So I would suggest to change the behaviour of the increase/decrease buttons, if the cursor is placed in a numbered paragraph. The buttons should change the numbering level in this cases (similar to Promote/Demote one level buttons). I'm not sure, if someone will miss the old functionality, may be this should stay available as well. Would it be possible to get the old behaviour by pressing e.g. ctrl when clicking the buttons? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Smooth the line with splines. Notice, that you get a corner, where the start/end-point is. This corner is produced, because the algorithm always use natural spline which means, that the second derivation is zero. The existing code has the ability to set the desired derivation for the start- and for the endpoint. But there is no UI to do this. This issue is not about a new UI, but to use this ability to get really round lines in the case, that the line is closed. I set the derivation to the same as the connection between second and last but one point, which seems me to be a reasonable guess of the real, unknown derivation. The user can force the old behavior by setting one coordinate of the start point or of the end point to a tiny different value, for example by multiplying the value with (1+1E-15). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 3959] Outline View (aka MS Word)

Should we have a little celebration? Maybe recounting the workarounds we use for outlining, that we'd rather do in OOo? On a more serious note, I see that the last comments from the developers came about a year ago; at that time, the new layout engine was the high priority, and if I understand correctly, having that in place would/will/does make the outline view much easier, if not trivial. An update on the engine and the overall situation would be a nice birthday present. And again, if a release of this feature isn't imminent, it'd be good to have more of a dialogue with the developers. Some of us have the capability to pitch in and help in various ways, and if a number of small contributions could break the logjam, might be able to donate some time here and there. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If the values are the same, TRUE is displayed. If the values are not the same, FALSE is displayed. With MS Excel I can then do a FIND/REPLACE and replace all occurrences of the word FALSE with another pattern, such as a yellow cell background, so I can spot it easily when scrolling through the spreadsheet. Then all those cells are marked and you click on 'Background color' in the toolbar to assign a color directly to the selected cells or click on a style to assign a special style you have defined. Currently you can only search for a text and replace with a text, or you can search for a style and replace it with a style. But you can not mix it up. It would be a useful enhancement to the dialog, if you can search for a text and 'replace' (which would mean 'assign') a style, for example. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
