[framework-issues] [Issue 101224] common autocorrect replac ement table for certain languages subgroups (i .e. en-US, en-GB)

--- Additional comments from tomm...@openoffice.org Sat Mar 6 09:32:50

hi os, haw are you?
almost an year passed from my last post.

i'm writing here again since

you know i have already 65k italian autocorrections stored in the acor_.dat
file (all-languages autocorrections) and then i started filling the acor_it-
IT.dat (italian language for ITALY).

actually i'm very close to the 65k limit of that acor_it-IT.dat as well (last
count was 62673 entries).

this means that i'm very close again to the crash limit.

for this reason it would be a bless for me to have the acor_it-
non_localized.dat file we talked about in previous posts.

this would give me several advantages:

1- it would allow me to enter another 65k autocorrect entries... that means
another 2 years of bad typing to be autocorrected by OOo

2- it would allow me to have a single acor.dat for english regardless of
sublocalization (en_US, en_GB, en_AU) in which i could store all the typing
errors that are common to all english variants (i.e. yrllow -- yellow) and use
the localized .dat files only for those words with varable spelling (i.e. color
in american english -- colour in british english)

do you think this STARTED issue could be FIXED in OOo 3.3?

thanks again for your patience and help.

Hi,

just forwarding http://bugs.debian.org/572735:

--- snip ---
When openoffice is running a presentation, it should switch to the
Presentation power profile for KDE. Currently, the latest koffice does
this.
--- snip ---

Ask the submitter of the Debian bug if you have any questions.

Regards,

Rene

I had the older open office 2 series operating on a windows xp pro 64 bit
and everything was working perfectly.

On thursday eve, i updated my windows xp 64 version 2003 service pack 2, at
the windows update site, it downloaDED ABOUT 78 UPDATES

When i then tried to open any of my open office .odt documents, they would
not open, just seized up the system .

I then checked the open office site and decided to download the latest 3
version of open office, also deleting my earlier version

The open office operates fine for new documents, but i still cannot access
my existing documents, it just seizes up the system, on the loading process,
and i have to end task .

Loking for advices on solving this issue

Test system is Sun Ultra 30 running SPARC Solaris 9 4/04.

OpenOffice 3.2 (RC4) installs ok but fails at startup with a javaldx symbol
(sal_detail_initialize) problem. ldd also showed dependency on not-present
libm.so.2.

With the 9_Recommended patch set (as of 17/10/2009) applied, OpenOffice now
fails at startup with libc.so.1 version dependency failure (SUNW_1.22 required
by libvclss.so).

OpenOffice 3.2 does work fine on SPARC Solaris 10 (tested on 5/08).

Are we now building OpenOffice on SPARC Solaris 10 systems such that SPARC
Solaris 8 and/or 9 are no longer supported by OOo?

An additional note :

In case fvwm95 looks a little bit too exotic, I have also made the
test with twm (yum install twm), which is the plain old standard window
manager for X11 and got the same issue.

This is vanilla OOo, not the specific Fedora one, so its not an issue specific
to the Fedora rpms. The warnings look vaguely like they might be from the KDE
integration. Though whether those are related to the final crash is another
thing.

I have several presentations recently created in Openoffice Impress 2.x and
saved in standard odp format. When I open these in Oo Impress 3.1, the
formatting on many of my slides is changed, with, for example, text being
shifted relative to graphics on various slides, and text boxes that previously
fit fine on a slide now being too large. It is difficult to know exactly what is
causing the problem (could it be something as simple as a change in the default
page size?)

It is really frustrating that a presentation created in a recent version of
Impress and saved in the standard OO format would fail to open in exactly the
same way in a newer version (and dealing with this on a slide-by-slide basis
will be a ton of work). Backwards compatibility should surely be one of the most
important things to ensure?

In any case, is this a known issue? Is there a work around? Could it be fixed
permanenently?

THanks!

Christian

PS: I would be happy to provide a sample slide whose format is altered along
with a saved PDF version of what the same slide looked like in 2.x.

The semantic is changed. See issue 86721, where the old semantic has bee set.
Unfortunately ODFF 1.2 does not define it, 5.13.26 N [..] It is
implementation-defined what happens if it is provided a Text value. I think OOo
should be consistently over the versions.

Same kind of error: Write =123 in A1, result of =N(A1) is 0 in OOo3.1.1 but is
number 123 in OOo 3.2.

The workaround works !!!
The SUM function does ignore cells containing text.

For coherence, using + and SUM() should work the same.
Even though one could use only SUM, logically they have the same function and
users would expect them to work the same.
(As well, often + and SUM are used together.)

In summary, although there is less urgence with the existance of the workaround,
cells containing (at least non-numeric) text should be ignored in all
calculations, and not be treated as errors.

When copying non continuous cell ranges to a text editor, only the first cell
range is pasted.
This behavior is not observed when copying/pasting non-cont. ranges inside calc.

Problem
OOW incorrectly includes footnotes in the word count.

Background
OpenOffice Writer is used widely for countless academic purposes. In all known
academic writing conventions footnotes are not included in any word limit.

Proposal
OOW should be fixed so that it does not include footnotes in the word count.

Details
Footnotes should be designated as excluded fields for word count purposes.
Footnote super-script numbering within the main body of the text, should also be
excluded.
The word count window may be expanded to give an additional count 'including
footnotes' if considered desirable.

To reproduce next two issues open test case in Black Theme.
Issue #1: Colors doesn't appear as it should : yellow and blue.
Issue #2: Arrows doesn't appear.
Issue #3: After that switching to Windows Classic Theme all colors and arrows
show properly except the text in the middle box (should not have gray color
since it depends on windows theme)

Here's the sequence:

Create a .csv text file with a one line entry 'fred,1' (I used the Mac program
textedit.app to do this)
Open it in Open Office Calc.
Save it as a Microsoft Excel 97/... .csv file
Select the second cell containing the numeral '1'
In the Input Line slot, select the numeral '1' using the mouse
Click on the hyperink icon in the tool bar
Enter the URL
'http://nedwww.ipac.caltech.edu/cgi-bin/nph-objsearch?objname=HIPASS+J0107%2B01'
Click Apply
Select another cell with the mouse then click on the newly created hyperlink
You will find that the URL it opens is
'http://nedwww.ipac.caltech.edu/cgi-bin/nph-objsearch?
objname=HIPASS+J0107+01'
ie it has converted the percent-2-B to '+'

No error messages, just an unrequested ASCII character conversion.

First: I'm sorry to open another issue on this one, but I am completely
dissatisfied with the
classification of the problem as Enhancement for OOo v2.1 in Issue 79861.

Please read on before you consider marking this one as duplicate.

What's the issue about? As reported in79861, when an AutoText entry is created
using the New
(text only) option in the AutoText dialog, the expected behavior would be that
the AutoText entry is
stripped from all formatting and saved. When you insert the AutoText again,
you'd expect it to
behave like unformatted text, taking the formatting of the paragraph you're
inserting it to.

What happens instead is that the AutoText is inserted, followed by a newline or
carriage return. I my
case I was trying to create AutoText entries for the THIN SPACE als well as the
HAIR SPACE
characters, because I use them frequently in my typsetting works. When I insert
the AutoText, I want
it to adapt to the respective formatting of the text I am editing.

Having these characters inserted with a succeeding line break makes the feature
unusable for that
purpose. And since normal AutoText behaves the way I expect it (inserting
in-place WITH the
formatting of it's own, without a line break), I reckon the behavior of the
text only AutoText to be
inaccurate. BTW: it is _not_ possible to remove the newline by editing the
autotext entry. It is inserted
again after saving the changes.

To me it seems evident, that the issue reported is a DEFECT, since the behavior
that can be
observed is different from what you expect the regarded function to do in the
first place. The
Problem also ist still present in v3.1.1 (ubuntu5), and as I suppose in more
recent versions also.
Please tar and feather me if it's not. I don't have the possibility to install
a higher version on the
computer I'm using right now. But it should be easy for someone else running
latest OOo to confirm
or to dissent.

So cppcheck warns, worrying that someone may delete an inheriter via base
pointer. Attached is a patch to inherit privately, removing that possibility.
Alternatively adding a virtual dtor would obviously also clear the warning

Thanks for the clarification - I had forgotten that the readme files shipped
with OOo were generated to be platform-specific. I would agree that Solaris 10
is the most sensible requirement for OOo given that Solaris 9 has reached
End-of-Life.

I was however drawn into testing OOo 3.2 on Solaris 9 SPARC as it is still
listed as a platform for localization testing:

http://www.sunvirtuallab.com:8001/tcm2/opensource/tcm_maintenance.cgi?tcm_config=newoooaction=platform

(as indeed are Solaris 8 SPARC and Solaris 9 x86)

BTW http://www.openoffice.org/welcome/readme.html doesn't mention Solaris 10 as
requirement

I use Writer to create my invoices. In Calc I make the calculations which I
copy paste special into the text.
In this way I created a format too, so I don't have to leave the text-page at
all. A small Calc-sheet is already embedded.
This worked fine til I updated to 3.2, two days ago.

The existing invoices will open in Writer, but the Calc-sheet is missing.
Not hidden as far as I can see; it is just not there.
Only the Writer-data emerge.
As it is Inland Revenue and myself are very fond of my old invoices and also of
the Calc data they carry.

Note: I can create new invoices by the above manner, they function quite well in
3.2, so that does not seem the problem.
Note: I reinstalled 3.1 and had no problem at all.
Only that this version of 3.1 crashes sometimes with a VISTA runtime error.

To reproduce this issue, create a chart - a bar graph for example in one sheet.
Then change the color of the axis from default grey to some other color - for
example black. Now copy the chart and paste it in another sheet of the same Calc
file. Expected behavior is see an identical copy of the chart pasted into a new
location. Observed behavior is that the axis color of chart is reverted (from
black) to the default grey color.

This happens when the chart is pasted into a new Calc file or an Impress file.
I am using OOo 3.2.0 OOO320m12 (Build:9483) downloaded from the Openoffice.org
website on Ubuntu Linux.

In Help stanfs for the N function

N
Returns the numeric value of the given parameter. Returns 0 if parameter is
text, FALSE or #NA.
If an error occurs, other than #NA, the function returns the error value.
Syntax
N(Value)
Value is the parameter to be converted into a number. N() returns the numeric
value if it can. It returns the logical values TRUE and FALSE as 1 and 0
respectively. It returns text and errors as 0.
Example
=N(123) returns 123
=N(TRUE) returns 1
=N(FALSE) returns 0
=N(abc) returns 0
=N(1/0) returns #DIV/0!

either the help is wrong or the implemantation.
This is another incompatible change to MS

[sw-issues] [Issue 79861] Unwanted empty paragraph i f New (text only) autotext inserted

2010-03-06 Thread mmartin_bln
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=79861

--- Additional comments from mmartin_...@openoffice.org Sat Mar 6 17:39:57

Here some more thought after a little more investigation.

As I've described in Issue 109876, I'm simply trying to use text only
Autotext to simplify inserting
special space characters (HAIR SPACE and THIN SPACE) into text. Since I want
those spaces to take
the formatting of the text I insert them so, I chose New (text only) to
create the entries. Now this is
what we already had.

What happens is that a line break return is added to that entry, which I think
is the defective
behaviour here. This line break cannot be removed by editing the AutoText, it
is re-inserted every
time. I cannot think of a reason why this should be wanted. Needless to repeat
it makes the function
unusable for my purposes. This also means that only changing the reading of the
AutoTexts ist not
the way to go. It would have the advantage not to have to correct all AutoTexts
having this unwanted
line break manually, yes. But it shifts the defective behavior onto those cases
where a terminating
line break is actually wanted, for example when I would like to have an
ellipsis character (or another
glyph) at the end of a paragraph and I'd like to insert a succeeding line break
as well.

However, I seem to have found a work around for until the issue is resolved.

Create a normal AutoText entry from whatever text you want. Do choose New,
not New (text
only). The AutoText entry is created _with_ the formatting it had when it was
created (paragraph
style, character style, etc.)

Now edit that entry, setting all styles (paragraph, character, lists, whatever)
to Default. The
highlight all text, right click on it and choose Default Formatting. The
AutoText is now stripped of all
formatting and should behave like unformatted text. Save and close all AutoText
dialogs. When you
now insert the AutoText, it correctly integrates with all formatting of the
target text, and it doesn't
have the unwanted line break. I've tested it and it seems to work like you
would expect text only
AutoTexts to behave.

Hope this is of help for anyone.

I have removed the OO packages from my distro and downloaded the latest OO
(3.2)
from your site. At the time of this writing, I can no longer make it crash.

At my earliest convenience, I will perform the same operations on my friend's
computer. This will probably happen after Lucid Lynx comes out.

Thanks for the help. I will provide an update if needed.

Of all the many import filters there don't seem to be any for Apples iWork
product.
I am specifically interested in seeing an import filter for .pages documents.

sum() can work, but :

sum(a1;-a2) will give an error if a2 is (non-numeric) text.

one has to write
sum(a1)-sum(a2) [or equivalent, with no negative sign before any cell name]

also, for reference to a single cell that might contain text, one has to write
sum(a1)
alone.

That gives some strange-looking formulas to make it work.

Note that if one uses a language other than english, sum() is translated.
e.g. it is somme() in french.

I created Writer documents (.odt) with Calc spreadsheet inserted in them
(Insert - OLE Object) back with the 3.0.1 version on Windows 7 Ultimate RTM.
All of them work great on 3.2 version on the same OS. But when i opened those
today on OpenSUSE 11.2 (tested in KDE 4.3.1 and 4.3.5) all of the spreadsheets
after closing lost the last row (tried it on both 3.1.1 and 3.2 builds).

On Windows, when entering the spreadsheet in Writer, the margins spread around
the whole table, but on Linux it just fails to do it with the lost row, so
after closing it, it just disappears. Since this might sound very confusing i
provided screenshots with steps on how this really looks like.

http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/6404/2step.png

http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/8354/3step.png

Hope this will help you to resolve this issue, since those documents are now
pretty much unusable on Linux. Thank you.

Reproducible with 10027-C-EH.doc Ooo-Dev 3.3.0 multilingual version English
UI WIN XP: [DEV300m73 (Build 9456)]!

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create WRITER document with 3.1.
2. Menu 'Insert - Object - Ole-Object - Table - New' ok
   CALC object will be inserted
3. Fill all visible cells with letter A
4. Leave object
5. Save as sample.odt
6. Save as sample.doc (WORD 97/XP)
7. close

10. Open both documents with 3.1.1
as expected, you will see Object in navigator pane and document in both
documents
11. Close documents without saving

20. Open both documents with 3.2 (or 3.3-dev)
expected: you will see Object in navigator pane and document in both
  documents
actual: only fisible in .odt, not in .doc. here isn't any hint concerning
that object in the document.
21. Close documents without saving

31. Open .doc with MS WORD viewer:
Table will be shown correctly

Works fine if .doc document has been created with 3.3

No problem with Chart, Drawing and Formula objects.

@pietparel:
May be you would avoid such problems saving your documents in ODF format when
you use OOo.

Is there anything being done about this issue? I keep running into it. Today I
almost submitted a paper with a misformatted headline because the formatting got
lost on saving and I didn't re-open the file to check if everything still looked
like it did when I saved.

This is quite simply the most serious bug in Writer IMO. I'm surprised it didn't
block OOo 3.2 seeing as it was submitted well before relase. I should be shocked
if 3.3 is released without this bug being fixed.

Confirmed on OS X 10.6.2 with Finnish OpenOffice Writer version 3.1.

Entering a bibliography entry in the main text and then copypasting it to the
frame does not work, the number is changed to [0]. Adding multiple entries into
the same frame also just numbers them all as [0], which in turn shows up in the
bibliography list as multiple 0: entries.

I have just made another discovery: the crash/hang doesn't occur, if character
insertion is done using keyboard navigation only. Ie. crash/hang only happens,
when I click on a character (no matter if I use touchpad or mouse).

The same crash/hang happens also when I open Preferences window (Cmd + ,) and
click on 'Language settings' label. When I navigate this label using keyboard,
everything is OK.

I tested it on version 3.2 and look at that this error is corrected. Just in the
test file on a moment change the order of the image with the entry of
bibliographic and refresh the bibliography and field. Then there are no longer
appropriate numbers.
Please confirm.

===

I can confirm @argasek's most recent comment: navigating the Insert Special
Character dialog strictly with the keyboard will not result in a hang / crash.
It appears that any mouse click inside this dialog (either single click or
double) will result in the aforementioned bug, but keystrokes do not.
