aviret->md: I have a Calc document which I'm using without any problem, but a
Writer doc leads to a crash
when I use page-down for instance. Or when I try to open an empty doc. from the
"Centre de démarrage" (I
attach the log in the ticket).

A case has been opened for this: SR 73733263.

Hello,

This issue is not quite fixed IMHO.

When you save the document before closing the session, I think that's StarOffice
is killed just after having saved the document and during the handling of the
kill signal, it's still using the previous method of silent save. At the
reopening of StarOffice, it restores a previously saved document.

Please see the attached document SR72383802.

Best regards,
 Alain

> caused by starting of multiple office instances using the same user folder.

That was the case when we had a long start of javaldx binary (replaced by a
script), this could lead the
user to have multiple instance of soffice.bin running at the same time. But as
javaldx is now a small
script to give the java libraries, I think that today that's not the case.

We still have this problem today on OpenSolaris with SO9 without having a
script which deleted
temporary files (as this was happening on Mac OS X with the daily cron jobs).

We still need a 9.2 release (or 9.1.1 with the last patches we received one
month ago, ask Dirk or
Dieter) of StarOffice which generate log files when the problem is happening.

 Alain

Hi Mikhail,

Checks that the autosave has not generated an empty file and warn the user when
that's the case.
This has to be activable (default)/deactivable (in the xml config file is
sufficient, UI not needed).

Related to the issue 83352 / Case 38224321.

Ok, but this seems to lead to the same dialog, as the value I changed yesterday
was already taken by
soffice. Just in case, I reset it from the preference menu.

Actually, the problem is there for two files and their lock files are here:

bash-3.2# ls -al
total 7488
drwxr-xr-x 25 vir staff 850 27 jan 11:56 .
drwx-- 20 vir 501748 16 déc 22:11 ..
-rw-r--r--@ 1 vir staff15364 26 jan 07:24 .DS_Store
-rw-r--r-- 1 vir staff 114 2 déc 22:41 .~lock.Tarifs Kondor - 1.ods#
-rw-r--r-- 1 vir staff 114 27 jan 11:56 .~lock.Tarifs Kondor -
copie.ods#

Please note that just after my ls command, I tried to save the second file
(Tarifs Kondor - copie.ods), I
get the IO Error message and the lock file is no more there...

> To recap, the problem does appear reproducibly (every time, or just
very often?) on your Mac,

Just very often, not reproductible. For instance, the file is never closed, so
it may stay opened for days,
saved every day, after a certain time, the problem is there. For our users, the
problem could also
appears after a small amount of operations within the file with soffice.

>when all relevant files are on the local disc filesystem, right?

Local file system, yes.

>In the beginning, Timbreuse2.xls is already open in soffice and saving it as
>Timbreuse2.ods fails.

In fact Timbreuse2.xls was first opened as Timbreuse2.ods, then the problem
happens and I tried to
save it with MS file format, so it becomes an xls file.

>Later (after Timbreuse2.xls got saved as Timbreuse3.xls

Yes, it was to show that the save filter of MS are not impacted when the
problem is there for the ODF
export filters.

> and Timbreuse2.xls is thus no longer open in soffice) Timbreuse2.xls is opened
> again in soffice (via Finder), and now saving it as Timbreuse2.ods succeeds.

Yes, the idea was to demonstrate that the file has no problem of saving to ODF
when it's freshly
reopened.

(1) How was Timbreuse2.xls opened the first time in soffice (before the video
begins)?

It was opened as an ODF file (Timbreuse2.ods)

(2) Is this part of the reproducible behavior, that the initially
opened Timbreuse2.xls does not allow to save as Timbreuse2.ods, while the later
re-opened one does?

It's not reproducible, it just happens without any special steps or set of
operations.
Timbreuse2.xls was in a state that you could not save it anymore with ODF, the
only export filter which
was working (or tested) was the MS export filter.
The standard export filter (which is also used by the autosave and gives an
empty file) ODF is not
working anymore.

 Alain

Yes, also the "save as" and the autosave (which generates an empty file: this

It's not related to the original format. The problem appears sometimes with
Calc or Writer document.
Actually on the StarOffice on Solaris, it's a writer document (Open Document
Format), and on the Mac
OS X OpenOffice 3, it's a Calc document.

When I try to save the document using the MS file formats, the document could
by saved, but then if I
save it back to the Open Document Format, the error message is back and the
document has an empty
size.

On could also observe that the autosaver generates an empty file (that's how I
could mesure that the
problem concern more than one users (we have 700 users).

I will prepare a small video with jing project as it could be easier to
understand what's happening.

 Alain

Hello,

Actually I have the problem on one StarOffice 8 Solaris and one OpenOffice 3.0

We could generate dtrace info about this point when saving the document, but
which kind of trace could
be usefull for the developpers ?

I must admit that the first error message is different as the second posted
just yet, but the I/O Error
described and the workaround using the save as MS format in the first comment
of the poster of the issue

Hello,

I have also the same behavior with Solaris and Mac OS X. When I use the MS
filters (save the doc in XLS,
it works), but when I tried to save the same document in ODS again back, the
same IO Error is back. It
seems to be memory corruption in the OpenDocument generation which doesn't
impact the MS export
filters. I open a case by Sun (number 37848006, opened since the 10th May 2007).

As it's not easy to reproduce (quite impossible, there is not set of operation
which leads to the
problem), I have a document in my OpenOffice (OOO300m10 build:9362) running on
my laptop. On
Mac OS X, I could use dtrace to get infos for the developpers, if you have a
script of what you need.

I hope we could find a solution about this issues, as we have 700 users, and
this seems to happen
about 10 times a week, so the impact is quite bad.

Greetings,
 Alain
