It is an issue that cripples the use of global search/replace. When the cursor is on the last word of a paragraph, and there is no delimiter, Ctrl+right will continue to the next paragraph, i.e., include the paragraph separator. This is particularly annoying when editing text boxes in presentations, where no punctuation is used at the end of a line. Inadvertently, typing to replace the selection will also delete the paragraph mark, forcing the user to create the paragraph again and eventually correct the outline level of that next paragraph. Suggestion: have To Word Right (Ctrl+Shift+Right) also stop at a paragraph mark. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To reproduce the issue, enter for example Ca2+ in a presentation. Format the 2+ as superscript. While editing is active (dashed border, caret visible), the spacing is all right and as old. I am sure we are misunderstanding each other, now that I re-read your second reply.
Select the 2nd line in edit mode (inverse text color). Format/Default formatting: only the 2nd line shifts to the left again.
NONE of the lines should shift to the left again. The indent of the line is paragraph formatting. If only a few characters in a paragraph are selected (inverse text color), the paragraph formatting should NOT be reset on choosing Format - default. Only the character formatting of the selected text should be affected. Thus, in your example: the line should NOT shift to the left again. I am now including very specific steps to illustrate the issue, which should allow a good understanding 1) On a blank presentation, enter a text box. Enter three lines, followed by enter, e.g This is the first line, This is the second line, This is the third line. Press Esc such that we have the green handles. 2) Format/Paragraph, set indent before text to 10 mm (or 1 i), - all lines get shifted right. 3) Highlight the second sentence, format as bold 4) In the second sentence, highlight only This is the, select Format default. Expected behaviour: direct formatting (in this case Bold) is removed. Observed behaviour: in addition to removing direct formatting, the command removes direct formatting of the entire paragraph (paragraph formatting), even though only a few words of the paragraph were selected. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=94675 --- Additional comments from Wed Oct 8 13:08:24 + 2008 --- Apparently you cannot reproduce the issue: it is overly clear when looking at the attached presentation (if you have the issue, that is). I attached a screenshot made while the effect is running. As you can see, fonts are displayed more upright than they should be. After the effect has finished, fonts take their final (antialiased) shape. A smaller issue, but an issue anyway, is that aliasing: during the animation, charactes are rough and after the animation, the antialiasing is applied making the characters smooth. I do not see the issue on an OpenOffice 2.4.0, running from a citrix server on a Windows platform. However, that is 2.4.0. I only noticed this issue recently. It might nevertheless be an OS specific issue. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. A less than nice side effect of this design is that it is impossible to paste a different number in a cell without loosing the note! * Create a cell with a number and a note * Copy a different number from another cell * Try to paste the different number in the first cell, conserving the note - selecting none deletes the note. [sw-issues] [Issue 41193] add ability to remove (a s election of) hard formatting usng Search Rep lace
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=41193 --- Additional comments from Thu May 29 12:06:09 + 2008 --- There is only one issue here, which is that OOo does not allow to selectively remove hard formatting, e.g. only italic when items are italic+bold, or italic+superscript. I believe the issue has proven to be valid and therefore should not be closed without any action just because it is old. I am very scared of a Word perfect reveal formatting codes because this represents the ultimate nightmare where you have the right as a user to fiddle with individual formatting codes in between your content. One of the great strengths of OOo has been the separation of formatting and contents by using styles. This is consistent to the extent that even direct formatting internally is handled with character styles. It is the latter that now proves to be a limitation in implementing possibilities for the selective removal of formatting with search/replace. However, if that is the price for a style-centric approach, then I am happy to pay it. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If a few text objects should be changed to Fit width to text, the user has to click each individual object and invoke the dialogue for each individual text element. Steps to illustrate the issue: (1) Using the text button on the drawing toolbar, add a couple of text objects. When these are created just by clicking in the canvas and typing some text, both the options Fit width and fit height are set. Suppose we want to turn Fit height off: (2) Select the text objects you created. Format - text: the options Fit height and are greyed out. The only way to change the option is to repeat it again for every single text object. However, it is more significant than that. May I advise to change the title one more time to User selection should be kept after a replace all operation because indeed the issue is that Calc just changes the users' selection after Replace all. Obviously, when the user wants to act on a selection of cells, it is not up to the application to change the users selection. This is obviously related to the other issue, where a user has to select a hidden option (hidden under more) to have the spreadsheet effectively work on his selection (issue 35093). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=86363 Issue #|86363 Summary|Presentation causes excessive and continued processor |load Component|Presentation Version|OOo 2.3 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|Linux Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P2 Subcomponent|code Assigned to|cgu Reported by|ftack --- Additional comments from Fri Feb 22 16:48:33 + 2008 --- System: Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) with OOo of distribution (2.3.0; openoffice-org core 1:2.3.0-1ubuntu5.3, Tue nov 27) When working with a presentation, I observed that Ooo causes in increasing load on the processor, up to the point that the system becomes slow and bad responding. I performed a test where I monitored processor usage using Ubuntu system monitor, which can be easily reproduced using the attached presentation. The test shows first of all the very high processor use while running the presentation (which might be normal). However, after running the presentation, the processor use while idle (i.e. doing nothing) is increased, and it increases each time after a presentation up to a point where the baseline processor usage is over 80%, the ventilator is working at full speed, presentations become extremely jerky and the system as a whole becomes unresponsive. I attached the processor usage graph as high_processor.png. It clearly shows the increase in baseline in processor use, that remains high even after leaving the system idle for half a minute (e.g. after the ninth presentation on the graph and at the end). The processor usage falls back only after exiting the word processor. Experience (not included on the graph) revealed that the processor usage continued even after leaving the system for half an hour! This test can be reproduced using the attached high_processor.odp, which is just a sample presentation with 5 slides, 10 animated objects in total, and automatic slide transitions without effect. To run the test as I did it: (1) Start System monitor. I have set the update interval to 5 seconds. (2) Start OOo and load high_processor.odp (3) Wait fifteen seconds (4) Press F5 to run the presentation. When it is finished, press Escape to close it (5) Wait 10-12 seconds then repeat the presentation (press F5) (4). While running, gradually more memory is consumed. I today submitted issue 86363, which reports on a CPU leak rather than a memory leak. [sw-issues] [Issue 85878] Undesired word wrap at sym bol
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=85878 Issue #|85878 Summary|Undesired word wrap at symbol Component|Word processor Version|OOo 2.3 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|code Assigned to|mru Reported by|ftack --- Additional comments from Tue Feb 5 11:38:25 + 2008 --- Writer wraps lines on symbols such as minus, plus, em-dash, where this is not desired. Steps to reproduce the issue: Type the sentence The symbol of potassium is K+. (optionally format the + in superscript to have the chemical symbol for potassium). Before the sentence, enter more characters to move K+ to the end of the line. At one moment, Writer moves the +. to the new line, rather than the entire symbol K+. Such a wrap should also not happen with a minussymbol, e.g. as in The sugar content is 1 g l-1, where we replaced the - by the appropriate typographic minus symbol U+2212 (obviously this behaviour would be expected with the normal hyphen, where it can be overcome with the non-breaking hyphen.) This issue is in the same realm as the closed issues 29319 and 19716, where similar issues were partly solved for braces. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. In my opinion, copy should just work. When you can see and select text, even if it is marked as deleted, you should just be able to copy and paste it. Obviously, in this case, pasted text cannot be marked as deleted anymore. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sc-issues] [Issue 76513] Decimal places option sh ould move from Calculate to View

Nevertheless I feel it is worth mentioning it and it probably can be fixed easily if it is being considered valid. In OOo.Calc, Tools - Options - OOo.Calc, Calculate, the Decimal Places option does not belong under Calculate. This option just affects the (default) display of numbers and thus belongs under View. Yet I have also a more fundamental concern with the way the default view is handled in OOo Calc, but I will file this as a separate issue. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sc-issues] [Issue 76515] Decimal places should be undefined for default view.
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=76515 Issue #|76515 Summary|Decimal places should be undefined for default view. Component|Spreadsheet Version|OOo 2.2 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|code Assigned to|spreadsheet Reported by|ftack --- Additional comments from Thu Apr 19 12:32:22 + 2007 --- Opposite to other spreadsheets, calculate requires a fixed number of decimal places for the general number format. The number of decimal places is controlled using tools - Options - OOo.Calc - Calculate, Decimal places. As a result, numbers with a large number of digits (depending on the current cell width) will more rapidly be represented as ## than in other spreadsheets. For example, with a decimal setting of 3, following number 12345.6789 might be displayed as ## in Calc (depending on the column width) while under the same circumstances, competing spreadsheets would just display less decimals, e.g. 12345.6 and only display ## if also the integer part doesn't fit in the cell anymore. The latter approach allows for greater flexibility in the default display of numbers. In Calc, a user has to recur more rapidly to adapting the cell width (which will affect the whole column) or changing the Decimal places option (which will affect the whole spreadsheet). Thus, I would suggest that the Decimal places option in Calculate dissappears, and that instead Calc handles the default display in a more advanced and flexible way, i.e. * Show the integer part and as many decimals that fit * Even better yet for numbers that won't fit: switch to exponential format - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To this aim, a Hidden figure Caption paragraph style is created. It is based on the Figure Caption style, but with the Hidden attribute set to Font Effects. In that hidden paragraph, a second, short version of the caption is entered. A cross-reference is used to automatically reflect the correct Figure number. A User defined index is created that uses the Hidden Figure Caption style. Yet, the hidden text is not displayed consistently in the entry * The normal hidden text is not displayed in the index * The cross reference *is* displayed in the index. It is expected that all text is taken over, whether it is hidden or not. Moreover, there should be consistency: either all text should be taken over in the index, or none. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
