Expected behavior: The file picker should suggest the last used file type. This expected behavior got fixed in issue 103568 (integrated in OOo 3.2) and has been working fine for Draw since then, but the last used file type is not saved in Writer. Issue 109668 introduced a fix for writer by always suggesting a default file type, but corrupted the behavior for Draw. With over 20 export file types available in Draw, having the last used filter pre-selected is highly desirable. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [lingucomponent-issues] [Issue 99796] [HE] Words with double quo te marks shall not get split for Hebrew spellc hecking
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=99796 --- Additional comments from hennerdre...@openoffice.org Tue Aug 17 10:05:25 + 2010 --- @tl, @eliadtsai: Hebrew has special Unicode code points for quote characters: 0x05F3 (equivalent to single quote) and 0x05F4 (equivalent to double qoute). IMHO they should be treated in the same way as their ASCII equivalents. - double quotes may be used to mark abbreviations. In that case they will be *enclosed* by Hebrew characters (no space character on either side, as shown in the screenshot) - single quotes may be used to modify certain Hebrew letters or to mark abbreviations. As opposed to the double quote case, this single quote may be also placed as the last character of the word / abbreviation (this case is not shown in eliadtsai's screenshot). So it should be very easy to determine the usage of a double quote character. If it is enclosed by Hebrew letters on both sides, it should be considered part of the word. If there is a space or punctuation character on either side, it is probably used as a quotation mark. - The usage of single quotes is more complicated: When it appears in the middle of a word, it should be considered part of the word (same as in the previous case). When it appears at the end of a word, it could be part of the word / abbreviation, or it could be used as a quotation mark. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. You should reopen this issue. The described behavior is - in contrast to issue 108835 - specific to the new Vista file picker. The Vista file picker remembers the last accessed paths for different file picker types separately. This is very handy in some cases, though I admit, that in other instances the document path seems more logical as the default path for the PDF export dialog. Previously the resulting EMF file could not be converted with GetWinMetaFileBits() function to WMF file format. This has an impact on scenarios where a third-party OLE client requests representation data from OOO in EMF format. In this case, OLE also tries to store the data in WMF format, but the conversion from EMF to WMF fails due to the old header format. - Fixed some problems in ImplWritePath(). Path with bezier curves were not closed properly in some cases. - EMF files were stored with pixel resolution only. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=107291 Issue #|107291 Summary|Enhancing WMF export/import to use embedded EMF data Component|Drawing Version|OOO310m19 Platform|PC URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|PATCH Priority|P3 Subcomponent|save-export Assigned to|sj Reported by|hennerdrewes --- Additional comments from hennerdre...@openoffice.org Sun Nov 29 12:51:06 + 2009 --- It is possible to embed EMF data into WMF files. This technique is able to circumvent the WMF format limitations in certain scenarios. Impact of this patch: Some third-party OLE servers provide higher quality representation data in EMF format than in WMF format. The OLE handlers usually provide the representation data in WMF format, but embed the superior EMF data in the WMF stream. When displaying an OLE object with OleDraw() or IViewObject functions, the EMF data is used. OOO, however, accesses the data streams directly and can only display the limited WMF representation (missing unicode characters, bezier curves) The patch enables to read the EMF data, if available, and thus improves the display quality of certain OLE objects. The patch also includes an enhancement to embed EMF data when exporting to WMF. I am not sure, though, if this has a benefit in practical use. Some tests indicate, that this embedded EMF data is not used, when OOO acts as a OLE server. This can be achieved in a different way, but that should be a different issue. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. But in the case of brackets and parentheses similar problems repetitively seem to pop up. Therefore I feel the need to rethink the current situation once more. Some of these thoughts don't relate directly to this issue, but I think the broader view will also contribute to the current problem. Paired parentheses contain the notion of opening and closing. This is expressed visually, but only if both parentheses are directionally interpreted in the same way. So we mainly encounter problems in cases, where one bracket has an unambiguous bidi context and the second one is on the boundary of bidi runs. I think these cases could be improved by applying the unambiguous context to the pair bracket. The example to this issue is different, because here we have a symmetric situation (only one direction inside the brackets). Directionally-speaking it does not make a difference, if the brackets are assigned to the outer or inner run. They will swap their places, but the visual result is the same. Typographically, there is a difference: The brackets could belong to the inner or outer script and would be displayed in the corresponding font. In any case, as you stated before, bracket and enclosed word shouldn't be separated even if they belong to different runs. In the current situation the paragraph direction determines the script type of the parentheses in the latter cases. In these paired situations, the script type could also be determined by the enclosed script or the outer script. Each mode of interpretation could lead to subtle differences in the visual appearance (depending on the fonts chosen). But I think it is also a more general (philosophical) question: Where do the brackets belong? To the outer or to the enclosed? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. So here is one detail, that could be improved. The more I think of it, the concepts of opening and closing, inner and outer are most valid and need to be considered (and currently they are not!!!) IMHO brackets/braces/parantheses belong to the outer text: Semantically speaking I agree with you. But visually they are placed closer to the enclosed text. Therefore I think there should be at least an option to display them in the same style (font) as the enclosed text. Other opinions on this? In regular writing I seldomly feel the need to force a change on the writing direction. There may be more special cases, but currently I cannot think of any sensible way to improve anything here in an automatized manner. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Issue 89825 introduced a related approach for numerals, issue 16354 for punctuation characters. Especially with parentheses at the border of embedded bidi runs, we sometimes encounter problems. Directionality problems with parentheses can usually be fixed with LRM and RLM characters, but most users don't seem to be aware of this option. Unfortunately, I don't see a straightforward way to assign correct bidi properties to parentheses by context. But maybe it is worth discussing the possibilities and options? @pmladek: The problem *does* also occur with LTR word in e.g. Hebrew text. But you need to set the paragraph direction to RTL. But what is interesting: The first (RTL word in LTR paragraph) case can be fixed with by inserting RLM before the first and after the second parenthesis. If you apply the same approach to the second case (inserting LRMs), the English word is broken apart when placed at the end of the line. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=105263 --- Additional comments from hennerdre...@openoffice.org Tue Sep 22 12:36:46 + 2009 --- In order to reproduce, you have to open a document, which resides in a folder, that has *not* been accessed by the Open/Save As file picker recently. Steps to reproduce: 1. Put a document in an exotic folder, to make sure that this folder hasn't been accessed recently. 2. To circumvent the open file picker, open that document by double-clicking the file in Windows Explorer. 3. Choose File, Save as... Result: The file picker displays its last accessed folder. Expected: The file picker should display the folder in which the current document resides. Impact: As a wrong folder is unexpectedly displayed, there is a high probability to save files other places you have intended to. Happened to me several times during the last days and you end up searching for you files... The Vista file picker fixes included in 3.2 have improved the usability of the file picker noticeably, but unfortunately this bug is able to spoil the user experience by violating a very basic behavior. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=104125 User hennerdrewes changed the following: What|Old value |New value Issue type|DEFECT|PATCH --- Additional comments from hennerdre...@openoffice.org Mon Sep 14 19:34:55 + 2009 --- @cd: Please have a look at the attached patch. In FileDialogHelper_Impl::loadConfig() the link checkbox is only set, if the filepicker's getValue( ... ).hasValue() returns false. However, the current Vista file picker implementation for getValue() always returns a value, so the check box is never set. The patch lets getValue() return an empty value, if the file picker has not been displayed yet. Therefore, it doesn't cover the case, if a check box is set, and the value is queried before the dialog is shown. The patch fixes the behavior of the link check box (Insert, Picture, From File...). The cause for the selection check box behavior in the export file picker is different: In FileDialogHelper_Impl::updateSelectionBox() the existence of the selection is determined through the XControlInformation interface. This interface, however, is only implemented by the office file picker. Is this intentional? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. When changing the check state of a check box, I'd expect the file picker to remember this changed state. But when displaying the file picker again, the check box states always revert to their respective default states. The OOo file picker and XP system file picker, in contrary, expose the expected behavior. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The step-by-step description of rainerbielefeld almost exactly matches the observed effects on Vista, except that the preselected file types differ in some cases. In Draw, I created several shapes (rectangles, circles) and tried to export as graphic files (emf, bmp). With this fix, the file picker returns to the default graphics directory, when opening the file picker. On subsequent calls to the file picker, this default path is still opening, and not the path I used in the previous export. Furthermore, if I check the selection check box, it does not retain its checked state in subsequent calls. After doing this procedure of choosing file, export, changing the export path to the path of my choice, and performing the export, OOo crashes. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I think the reason is: The file picker is set to the document file name (or untitledX.od? if the document is not saved). Because we have a file name, IFileDialog::SetFolder() is called. Maybe we could fix it by: - checking the requested path and filename. If the file exists (as e.g. in Save As), proceed to SetFolder(), if not ignore the path. - If I remember correctly, the file name property is always set to the document name. In PDF export the file name might be set to file.odt. Setting the default extension to .pdf causes the file picker to display file.pdf. Therefore we have to change the extension of our stored filename to .pdf prior to checking if the file exists. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
