I have now produced an ODT of the Getting Started guide that exports to
PDF as it should, without losing figures. Here is what I did:

The original file has hidden sections in it that contain the copyright
pages and TOCs of the chapters. I unhid those sections and then
deleted them from the file. In addition, I deleted the hidden paragraphs
with the book name from the title pages of the chapters. Then all was
well.

http://www.oooauthors.org/english/userguide3/gs3/V3_3_revisions/0100GS3-GettingStartedOOo33.pdf

Please note that the Impress Guide, which does not have the disappearing image
problem, does have the same hidden sections in it.

This problem does not occur in the master doc for the Impress Guide. The Impress
Guide files use the same template as the Getting Started files, and the IG
images are in frames and anchored in various ways, as in the GS files. Perhaps
comparing the two may give a clue as to the problem?

I can confirm that this problem exists in 3.2 RC3. If it was fixed at some
point, it is no longer fixed.

This is a major problem for people using custom styles and either master
documents on sections linking external files into a main file, including those
of us putting together the OOo user guides from individual chapter files.

I see this problem on WindowsXP and on Ubuntu 9.10.

Using DEV300m24 on Ubuntu 8.04, I observed similar but slightly different
behaviour. At first the numbering seemed to be fine: when I reopened the file,
the numbers remained as set.

But then if I re-applied a numbered list style to item 3, the problem occured.
For example, if I originally did not have an item 4 (so item 3 had a style of
OOoNumbered End), but later I added an item 4 and changed the style of item 3 to
OOoNumbered Cont., then after closing and reopening the file, the 3 had reverted
to 1.

Works in 2.3.1 and 3.0beta as described by hi in Feb 06, so I think this issue
can be Resolved as Invalid and closed.

Sorry for not checking this two years ago. It probably worked as described then
too, but we didn't know about using the square brackets when field names have
spaces in them. I still can't find anything in the Help about it. Perhaps I
should file an issue against the Help?

[sw-issues] [Issue 87808] Writers changes paragraph styles in lists to Default

http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=87808

--- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Apr 22 11:49:15 +

My experience is that Writer 2.4 randomly changes paragraph styles from a custom
style to Default in several situations: the first paragraph after a heading, the
first paragraph after a figure (separate paragraph style used for figures), some
items in bulleted and numbered lists, and table captions.

As far as I can tell, the files that show the problem are ones containing
material that originated in OOo v1.x documents which were later put into the
OOoAuthors v2.x template. And in a few cases, the original document was in
MSWord before being put into OOo1.x. I will attach a file of that type.

If I correct this file by reassigning the correct custom style to the Default
paragraphs, save the file, close it, and reopen it, most of the same paragraphs
have become Default again -- the same behaviour described by the person who
opened this issue. I am using Ubuntu 7.10. Fonts are Times New Roman for most
paragraphs; Bitstream Vera Sans for headings.

In addition, if I change the font size defined for Default from 12pt to 11pt (so
it looks the same as the style I want to use, when I save, close, and reopen the
file the Default style has reverted to 12pt. Is there a separate issue for that
problem?

Cor, I have found a file (last saved on 18 July 2007) that opens OK in OOo2.4 --
no change of styles. I made no changes to this file but saved it under a
different name. When I reopened the saved file, many paragraphs have changed to
Default.

I will attach both files. The original (never saved from 2.4) is
0501IG-IntroducingImpress.odt and the other one is testfile_saved_from24.odt.

Just to clarify:
(1) In my files, the changes have not been only in lists, but also in ordinary
paragraphs.
(2) I have observed the same behaviour in files that (as far as I know) did not
contain any material originating in 1.x.
(3) Files that originated in 1.x have been opened, edited, and saved several
times in 2.x. My sample was from 2.2 I think, but I have seen the same in ones
previously saved in 2.3.

At large font size, text overlaps images. Need to amend CSS to allow space to
expand to accommodate text in large fonts. I will attach a screenshot.

[sw-issues] [Issue 79515] Export to DOC has extreme issues with graphics in frames.

Export of graphics in frames works fine for me in OOo2.3 beta (I tested m218).

However, the problem also exists in the Sun plug-in for MSOffice, so I hope the
fix in OOo2.3 will get into the plug-in's code soon.

Andrew, I don't think this jumping around of frames containing graphics occurs
when exporting to HTML, even with OOo 2.2.1. I have encountered other problems
when exporting to HTML, but AFAIK those are due to the nature of HTML, not to
any bugs or defects in OOo.

Marko, if we put the choice somewhere under Custom Installation, most users
will never see it, and anyone using custom install should not have a problem
with it. Using a virtual machine, as you have suggested, is far too technical
a solution, and not one that I would ever contemplate. Why should I have to
change my computer's configuration just to use OOo the way I want to use it?

I am glad to see this issue, because I think it is essential for people to be
able to have *both* the stable version and the RC installed at the same time if
they wish. Here is why: I often need to compare the two versions when I'm doing
user assistance or writing documentation. I need to check things in the old
version to duplicate the user's problem and then check it in the new version
to see if it works there for me. At home, I can install the two versions on
different machines, but I don't carry two laptops with me when I travel.

Any progress on this? Any target milestone other than OOo Later? This is a
problem for writing documentation in chapters and then combining them to make a
book (for example, using a master document).

When creating a new paragraph style, if I click on the Condition tab -- but do
NOT mark the Conditional style checkbox, the new style has the Condition tab
visible when reopened with Modify, *and* the Conditional style checkbox is
selected, even though I did NOT select it when creating the style.

This behaviour did not occur in 1.1.4.

When using a custom list (numbering) style, if I set the first item of the first
numbered list in a document to restart at 1, the setting is lost when the file
is saved, closed and reopened.

In a stand-alone document, this usually does not matter, but when the document
is the second or later subdocument in a master document, and a previous subdoc
contains a numbered list, it creates a problem, because the first item of the
first numbered list in any subdoc continues the numbering from the last numbered
list in the previous subdoc that contained a numbered list.

I will attach a zip file containing a sample master document and two chapters.
Notice that the first numbered list in Chapter 2 starts with the number 3, and
the last numbered list in Chapter 1 ended with number 2.

This behaviour did not occur if I simply clicked the Numbering On/Off button
on the toolbar and did not use a custom list style. I will attach a second zip
file containing a sample master doc and 2 subdocs done using the default
numbered list.

The Chapter number and Entry icons on the Insert Index/Table dialog show F
not E as it should. I've attached a screenshot of the problem. This is in
1.9.m104. Two people have reported the problem on WinXP, and at least one person
says he has not seen it in a Linux installation.

I opened in V2beta a .sxw file (created in V1.1.4) which has information in some
of the document properties fields. It opened correctly in V2, but when I saved
it from V2 as a .sxw file and then reopened it in either V2 or V1, some of the
DocProperties fields have been lost, and the others display incorrectly. If the
file is saved from V2 as a .odt file and then reopened in V2, all is well. I
will attach example files.

After all the problems described in Issue 46991, I created a new (replacement)
public key using Cygwin and submitted it (Issue 47209). It was activated (or
whatever the word it) at OOo some time ago. Today I attempted to open a tunnel
using Cygwin and the instructions in Successful tunneling with Cygwin. Here is
what I entered:
ssh -2 -x -L 2401:localhost:2401 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Here is the message I received:

connection closed by 64.125.133.202

Any suggestions on what's wrong and what I should do? -- Jean

Thank you to everyone for the suggestions. Now I did this, like vq said:
$ ssh -v -v -v -2 -x -L 2401:localhost:2401 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'm attaching 3 screenshots to show the results. Sorry about the screenshots,
but I don't remember how to send this stuff to a file. I haven't used DOS in 10
years, and good riddance to it, I say! :-)

Willy said,
Do those file have to be named id_dsa and id_dsa.pub? That's not the
names of the key files I had. I tried renaming my key files but they didn't
work with either the original names or the id_dsa names.
?
When you create the key, it should be named that way (default name)
see my attachment

Yes, but I *did not* create my key using cygwin. I created it using PuTTY,
months ago. IIRC (and I might be misremembering), PuTTY asked me what name I
wanted for the keys, and I gave them a different name. So the public key I sent
to OOo had a different name. Does OOo store the public key with the name I gave
it, or some other name? I have no idea.

I don't know when I'll have time to look at this again, maybe not for 2 or 3
weeks. BTW, Willy, I'm a she. :-) Cheers, Jean

Yes, Louis, I have Cygwin installed. The last quite a few comments on this issue
thread have been regarding my problems attempting to use it to establish a
tunnel, and debugging the problems I've been having with that. (At your request,
I gave up attempting to use PuTTY for tunneling after I caused so much
difficulty for the OOo site.) -- Jean

Cygwin itself crated a folder home/Jean Hollis Weber/.ssh when I created a key
using Cygwin itself. Windows would not let me create .ssh under Cygwin/home.

So I had placed my public and private key in the home/Jean Hollis Weber/.ssh
directory. Do those file have to be named id_dsa and id_dsa.pub? That's not the
names of the key files I had. I tried renaming my key files but they didn't work
with either the original names or the id_dsa names.

Willy, you said, type:
chmod 400 id_dsa*

Where do I do that? When I tried it in the Cygwin window, I got the error
message
chmod: cannot access 'id_dsa*': No such file or directory

When I replaced id_dsa* with the name of my key file I got the same error
message (but with the name of my file instead of id_dsa*

I remain totally confused and frustrated by this. -- Jean

Here is the latest in my saga. I downloaded and installed Cygwin.

I copied my public and private keys (previously generated by PuTTY and which had
worked to get me into OOo) to the directory where Cygwin looks for them. (I'm
not sure whether that was the right thing to do, but I couldn't think what else
to do, and the instructions assume I'm generating a new key, not using an old
one.)

I followed the instructions on the web pages mentioned earlier in this thread: I
started Cygwin and typed in:
ssh -2 -x -L 2401:localhost:2401 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

At the notice about the authenticity of host openoffice.org can't be
established, I typed yes as instructed and got the message of ooo being
permanently added to the list of known hosts. So far so good.

Next I got the message:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]'s password:

at which I entered the password for my key, and got the message Permission
denied, please try again. After 3 tries, I was kicked out.

I noticed that the sequence was different from the instructions, which said I
would be asked for my passphrase *before* I got the authenticity message.

So... what should I do now? -- Jean

More info, which may be relevant: After aborting the TortoiseCVS operation, I
could not Ctrl+C out of PuTTY. Entering that keyboard command had no effect.
This has happened a few times before when I was trying to use WinCVS with PuTTY,

I followed this procedure to access SSH/CVS using PuTTY for the tunnel and
WinCVS for SSH/CVS access:

1) I set up a work area on my computer, to receive material I need to check out
from the Docs site.

2) I opened the tunnel using PuTTY. No problem there.

3) I opened WinCVS and clicked on Remote-Checkout Module. On the window that
opened, I entered documentation/www/manuals under module name, clicked
CVSROOT, and entered

:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvs

4) When I clicked OK, I got an error message that said I had to login first.

5) So then I went to Admin Login and put into CVSROOT field:

:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvs

6) Clicked OK, got a message box asking for my passphrase, put that in, clicked
OK, and got this info in the area at the bottom of the window:

cvs -d :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvs login
Logging in to :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:2401:/cvs

Then the program hung. I waited for 5 minutes or so and then stopped it.
Did I give up too soon? Did I do something wrong again? Any clues?

I passed this information on to Louis Suarez-Potts, who then wrote to me,
Log in first?? that is not expected behavior. You are specifying
localhost, yes? and are using this command, effectively, ssh -2 -x -L
2401:localhost:2401 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ?

To which I replied,
In PuTTY, you mean, or in WinCVS? ummm I have no idea. I just put
parameters in where I'm told to put them. I've certainly never seen that
command, but quite possibly one of the programs is generating it from what I put
in.

Louis:
Let's assume PuTTY is working and that WinCVS is doing bad things and that your
server is not at fault. So, can you send me a netstat -an output? Do it after
Start - Run cmd

Me:
How do I output the results of that command (netstat -an) to a file so I can
send it to you. It pops up in a DOS window and then goes away immediately.

Louis:
There is no way to scroll up the window?

Me:
The window closes immediately, before I even get a chance to look at it.
